Title: Things you'd buy if you won the lottery
Post by: freezestime on November 06, 2019, 10:05:55 PM
Ive been thinking and dreaming of what I'd do if I won the lottery, and I decided to ask what others would spend it on?

Edit: I'm thinking in the middle to high millions for a lottery win.

I'm gonna be splitting it up into practical, neither or impractical

Practical
Big House
Set up various charities
Donate to charities
Intensive mental health/other health services

Neither
Shelves everywhere possible
A cat room
Several rooms just to display different things
Hasbro, Mattel, toei, Bandai, takara, Nintendo, ect stocks.

Impractical
Commission several doujinshis for personal use
Complete all my collections
Commission art and figures
Have a holiday house in Japan
Personal chef
Ability to go to Japan whenever I want to to get the things I want when they're released

What would you do?

I've become rather realistic over the years. Before it would've been travel the world and buy all the things I want etc. Now I'm like I want a decent side townhouse. Not a detached property because I can't deal with the work, I want to live where I can share the burden with the rest of the people living there. And a small gardenpatch would be perfect, somewhere semirural though so not too much traffic. With rooms large enough for my collection, my books and Johns things. Now we have things cramed into two smaller rooms and they are a bit tiny. I would love to have a climate friendly car (I fell in love with the Toyota Yaris, it's so quiet and comfy to drive) so I can go to a stable and begin riding again. It's been like 15 years since I last sat upon a horse and I miss it.

I do want to travel a bit; Australia, New Zeeland, Scotland, Greece and Egypt.

Impractical: Go the Nirvana route..

For a while my lottery plan was: buy one of our neighbours' houses and turn it into a cat sanctuary/home for foster kittens. Because I would love to foster kittens/rescue cats, but it wouldn't be fair on the two cats we own, our house isn't big enough!

I would definitely want to do something for cats. Maybe I could find a rescue centre that was struggling to stay open and buy it/fund it to keep going. Or I could just make several hefty donations to favourite cat charities.
Obviously I'd give some money to family. My dad really loves vintage cars, so I'd probably buy him one and also purchase a big warehouse for him to keep them in and turn into a workshop where he could go and tinker with them whenever he wanted. I'm not sure what I'd buy for my mum but a top of the range bike would definitely be involved.
For my girlfriend I would see if I could get some sort of Oscar Wilde memorbilia such as a signed letter or a book owned by him; they do come up for auction sometimes!
I feel I should buy something for our cats too, but all they want is affordable things like toys, food, treats and catgrass. And perhaps a new cardboard box .
My girlfriend and I could then go on a money-no-object spree on eBay and Etsy buying dolls' house miniatures, Monster High clothes and pony accessories! We could commission elaborate doll outfits!
Several of our family friends have been having trouble with their health and with the deficiencies of the NHS, so if money could smooth the way for them, they could definitely have some.
Then if there was some money left (I'm assuming it was a big win) I would be totally boring and put it in my savings so that I wouldn't have to worry about some emergency happening and not having the money to deal with it.
Well that was fun to think about :)

AW MAN this is my favourite topic to think about whenever I'm daydreaming at work or window shopping. I made  a list once on Tumblr, let's see if I can find it.

I found it, it's out of date, so:

1. Buy a home for myself. I'm torn between wanting a deluxe home right smack dab in the city centre, because I HATE having to try getting home from concerts or events, but also don't want to deal with pollution or rats. I've lived in some form of countryside most of my life, and while I love the greenery, the travelling to and from things is a pain in the ass. My biggest dream is to buy an old church and make it a home, whilst keeping the original features, so if I could combine the two that would be great. The home would need to have a nice big bird room or a French door to an outside area for the birbs to enjoy. I want a greenhouse to grow chillies, and I want a conservatory to pamper the tropicals and the orchids, and lots of bumblebee-friendly flowers in the garden. There would also be a collection room for my stuff. A personal devotion room as well.

2. Finish big collections, i.e. get all the MH dolls I want, get the really rare and expensive Daenerys Targaryen things (like the large busts and super-pricey Funko POP!s like Gold Dragon Daenerys. I want custom-made display cabinets and bookcases for my manga collection as well.

3. Either a holiday home in Germany OR simply booking the Radisson Blu whenever I want. I want to travel all over Germany as well. TRAVEL TO THE CARIBBEAN OR BARBADOS, I REALLY want a super tropical sunshine beach holiday, my soul craves it.

4. Donate to charities and causes close to my heart, including buying a suitable permanent meeting place for a pet cause.

5. Buy a home for a family member who needs it, have one built for them if there are none suitable, and pay all their bills/decoration/moving forever.

i would fund some research on Retinopathia pigmentosa refsum syndrome and fund a few places that care for people, which do not know where to go and animal shelters.

that may sound basic but it is the first thing that came to mind. Xd of cousre, you can always update something in your daily life, but i think funding building the future is what most people would profit of in the long run.^^
i see i am concerned your this one refsum syndrome, of course i would found more studies that that. XD it was just the first thet came to mind!

For awhile I often fantasized about what I would do if I won the lottery, but I stopped because it just will never happen lol

But what I had decided upon was:
1. A small McMansion probably around 500k on an arce or two, I don't like all the suburban box houses in modern developments without any trees, yard all small uniform and lacking in nature. I would live there with my husband and mom

2. Pay off my mom's school debt, car etc. Do some repairs on my mom's house and sell it, put it towards her retirement

3. Buy a condo for my dad that is accessible for his disabilities

4. Maybe travel once a year. I've been to Japan 14 times so I've kindve already achieved my dream in that

5. Invest and live off the rest, quit working

6. Set aside like 2-3k for rare ponies, I don't really have that many that are must haves

7. Do animal foster care and/or support local no kill shelters and animal sanctuaries

I think it's quite practical, and it seems everyone has similar ideas. It says a lot about how we live in capitalism that winning the lottery just means having a more secure and comfortable life. Not extravagant mansions and personal jets

I'd buy a home and start playing with stocks to keep my income up so I don't need to work, but I'd still work. I'd get bored!
I would also travel and go thrifting around the world. I wouldn't finish my collections with the money because that saps the fun out of it!

I don't think I'd want to win the lottery. Apparently people's lives turn into living hell after they win it. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-G1uXNeFLs) Don't want that, no thank you.

Me?  I would pay off any and all things needing to be payed off for fiancé/me and our parents/close family/close friends.   Then id make sure to have enough to sustain, followed by giving back to the community and places that have provided a positive impact.  Humanitarian  things..medical.

I haven't thought about it past that.  Im not one to splurge on anything and its hard for me to do it for myself.  I tend to think and lookout for others.

I dunno, I've never really been a lottery sort of person. I mean, if the fact that I've won is public knowledge, then nooooo thank you. I'm with Beatles on this one, I've heard too many horror stories.

I guess hypothetically, a house? And then go on a collectible buying spree, I guess. And save... and give my parents half of it or whatever... Boring stuff! Haha.

I guess it depends on how big... if it was "the big one" (which I never actually play, alas) I'd pay off the house, and stop working! AH HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh and I guess my student loans finally...

I'd pay all my debts.

Then I'd buy a part of Hasbro to force my ways onto them

I'd probably leave the US and move to Canada. Buy a house and some wild land (and keep it wild). Have fun collecting more stuff. Help wildlife and shelter animals.

If I won the lottery? Oh boy! Well, I’d have no trouble paying for my tuition, and I probably wouldn’t have to live on residence because I could afford my own place. But I’d still go residence anyways. Be around other people in my field. Pay off my parents house, so that would be a huge burden off them. And put some towards my sisters education.
Also, hire a private investigator. We have a friend who’s in a bit of a nasty divorce/custody struggle, and the courts (for some odd reason) can’t see that her ex and his new wife are abusing her daughter. So I’d hire a PI to document all the stuff they do! And get the best attorney for her I can! Maybe also set up a charity to help...wait! Multiple charities! For everything!
But...I wouldn’t want it to be public knowledge I won. Keep it hush hush, and once things above are done, tuck the remaining funds in investments to make more money, and live a normal life knowing I have a safety net or a better retirement for myself and whomever I meet along the way. And I couldn’t live life not working. I’m unemployed right now, and it’s driving me nuts!

What would I do if I win the lottery?

Nothing.

Nope, wouldn't go crazy buying everything I could dream of or any of that. All I'd do is just keep living my life while not ever worrying about money again.

That would be nice.

If I were to win the lottery, I'd pay for my siblings college money (I can't go due to my disabilities), top surgery for me and all trans boys, houses and vacations for my parents a house for me including a pony room and a mimic.
But I'd happy just to help my parents, which I plan on doing when I have a job of my own. not that they need it per se but they were there all my lfe, the least I can do is get them nice things.

I'd pay off my student loans and medical debt, and then I'd get all of my close family and move us all up to New England, making sure they all live comfortably. Maybe Canada instead if we're able to, because the USA just isn't feeling so great anymore.

If it was a particularly extravagant amount of money, I'd love to travel through Europe.

I'd expand my collection of woodwind/brass instruments. I'd get a Loree oboe and English horn. I'd get replicas of medieval/Renaissance winds, which I love.

Beyond that I wouldn't live too extravagantly.

Hello new Toyota 86, Toyota Supra, Toyota Tacoma. Gotta find a DeLorean & Pacer.
Finish up my US MLP collection.
Move somewhere warmer where I can practice basket weaving on a beach...

Practical:
College, car or house funds for daughter dearest
Funds for publishing a second book

Impractical:
A couple of toys and some new games

I'll put some funds into that, but only if we can hire some of the TP and Arena's most talented customizers and maybe poach a few people from Basic Fun to handle the business stuff.

Fine with me. We need to make sure we get some of the BotBots engineers to make transforming mini ponies

oooh fun topic!

If I won, like, a million £ (pounds sterling) then I would get a decent detached house with an annex for my elderly family members to stay over (including a bespoke lift/elevator to keep them more independent).

If I won multiple millions, I would keep hush and just carry on with my life - again, my priority being that my family members are set-up for a comfortable life.

I would give myself cultural treats - book into a posh London hotel, see a show, eat at a good restaurant. Nothing too flashy, something of good quality and fun that I could invite my close friends to enjoy with me.  Or fly first-class abroad, again to experience some new culture.

Cars? I love classic cars, but I have become more practical in my ol' age and just don't want the fuss of the upkeep nor of the fear of the car getting damaged or scratched in one of the UK's carparks. Something sensible, maybe an electric car or a Tesla or something?

Oh, afternoon tea at the Ritz or Claridges - just to tick that off the bucket list lol

If I won mega-millions, well, of course, I would have to consider giving some away to needy causes - not to big, corporate charities, but lots of smaller charities instead - a few thousand means so much more to a small charity and there are so many voluntary folks doing good in the community that just need a small wind-fall to make a huge difference to their work.

Building a special facility to offer weekly respite care for families of those who have dementia or certain illnesses or ailments is also something that I would be interested in doing if I had mega-millions. Or buying a beautiful old mansion with large grounds and modernising it, sympathetically, to offer a peaceful retreat for the patients.

Something my Dad said that he would do - which makes me laugh - if he won millions is:
dress up in his scruffiest clothing, take a briefcase full of cash, walk into a posh car sales yard and ask to test drive something then haggle relentlessly with the polite, suited salesmen and then say "how much for cash?", slamming the briefcase  dramatically on the desk  hehe, that could be fun  :devious:

I'd give my home some upgrades, help my niece with college, create an awesome retirement fund and get some additions made to our local animal shelter.  I also have a few other charities in mind.

If I won the lottery...

I don't want a big house. I don't drive. I don't need a big house. I know where in the UK I'd want to have a home, and some space in it for me, visitors, and ponies/collections. Nothing obscene. With a garden.

I would want to continue to study somehow. Also travel. I want to go back to Japan for a while, but not necessarily for a long period - another 3 months would be fine, since my family are here.

I have a lot of places I want to visit but I can only tolerate so long on a flight in standard class so going to many of those places is an expensive undertaking I can't afford right now. If I had the money I could overcome that. I had to spend a lot of my own money to get to Japan for my fieldwork because there's no funding to help support autistic people flying long distance...that's preventing me from going back at the moment, and I'd like to break down that barrier and visit some more distant places like Korea, Taiwan.

I'd help my folks and my sister - my folks to move to an area they'd like more and my sister so she and her partner can buy their own home.

I don't really have crazy wants though. I would buy baby sugarcake at last to finish the set, :D but I don't need to go mad with buying ponies or other things...? I might try and buy some of the childhood things I don't have any more (like a MOC mountainboy, stickers for my childhood mountain boys, stuff like that).

Oh. One thing I really always wanted to do, every time I see prices go up...

I want to mass buy expensive ponies and then send them to the people who really want them but can;t afford them. Because you know, every time I can't afford sugarcake it is frustrating. And I( know there are people out there who really want x pony but can't afford them. So I would like to buy up a lot of costly ponies and send them to people who would actually love them.

There are some other things I would do as well, but they're more personal and I won't share them here.

I don't really need to be a millionaire. But I would like to not have to worry about money in future, because the world is mad.

I'm a southern boy.  I want a big lifted truck!  Yeah man!  And it would be an older body model, like late 70's Ford F150 or something.

House wise, I like the ocean and the mountains, so I would have two homes.  Live in the Smokey/Appalachian mountains in the summer when it's hot, live on the Georgia coast in the winter when its cold.

Of course finish my pony collection.

Zapper mentioned Hasbro.  I have always wanted, if I had the money, to approach Hasbro and fund/produce another Midnight Castle or Catrina style animated G1 movie.  I love that drawing style.  So much more time and effort was given compared to the movie and animated series.  I would really give Wind Whistler, Galaxy and all our childhood ponies a chance to be animated well like the earlier first ponies.  And they would be together in my film, both ponies like Firefly and Twilight and ponies like Lofty and Paradise.

And I would start my cat rescue, Nick's Legacy.

And I would hide from my family.  My dad is one of six kids, so I have a ton of cousins and aunts and uncles.

If we;re taking over Hasbro as a community lottery win project, can we make a condition of it that for G5 they rip up everything they ever had relating to G4 and start over from scratch? (not erasing G4 but starting afresh as something new for G5)?

It would be a waste if all the talent was brought in just to have the gazillionth Pinkie Pie.

I would definitely be up for the takeover if it guaranteed that Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash would never appear in any shape or form whatsoever ever again, not in character (personality) or in toy form.

If I won the lottery I would not buy a house. I know for sure I won't be able to pay the mortgage and maintenance for the rest of my life. Some see it as investment for me its a place to live in.
So I would buy some new furniture for my current place. Cats and mlp stuff included :)
I would also use the money to travel a bit more. I have no need for a trip around the world but visiting my foreign ponyfriends on short trips would be great.
And the rest will go on a savings account.

I would:

 invest in the stockmarket.

try every treatment out there to get functioning again.

also have a vet come over instead of going there with my cats whenever needed xD

then get various teachers. I want to learn Japanese culture, manners and of course the language. I also would like to continue my medical studies.

make sure my parents had what they needed and pay off my closest friends loans so that he can have a less stressful life again.

spend a lot of time with my mom while I still can

probably hunt down my grail ponies.

be a secret santa (I love giving what people want/need).

try to find a decent partner or be strong enough to not have anyone.

I love to day dream about this stuff also. But I don't very often buy tickets.

But if I did play and won I would be practical.

Would pay off what is left on the house and the truck loan. Would put in new windows and siding on the house. Replace the carpets with wood floors.

Buy my daughter a newer car for her when she is going to be driving full time. Has a 24 year old one right now.

Pay off any bills that my parents have left. There home is paid off though.

Have a nice simple family vacation once a year.

Stop working at my job that is wreaking my body so bad! Something nice and simple part time. And of course have to pay for health insurance if not part of the job.

Invest and save! And if possible would not let the whole world know that we won! Don't want others to know!

It's sad and depressing to say, but if I came into a large amount of money, I'd just pay off my school loans. Then my credit card debt.

If it was a Stupid amount of money and I never had to worry about another penny, I'd pay off my debts, then my father's debts, then my sister's debts, then my mother's debts. Then I might buy a house, or save for retirement.
