Title: Sunfading G1 Surprise
Post by: jenpen on May 30, 2019, 03:33:13 AM
Hi everyone,

I'm new to pony restoration and am thinking about sunfading a rather cream coloured G1 Surprise.  She does not seem to be on the list of ponies that are safe or unsafe to sunfade.  So I was wondering if anyone has successfully sunfaded her or had a bad experience sunfading her?  Please let me know.  Thanks.

I believe white ponies are safe to sunfade, but I do recall there being "batch variations" which can affect how well a pony fades.

Just make sure you watch her closely. I believe the more translucent white plastic tends to burn over the more opaque plastic. It doesn't capture well in pictures, but if you had white ponies you would see the difference...but as long as you watch her you should be good.

Surprise should be fine to sunfade.

Surprise shouldn't be an issue. She's not fully pristine white to begin with, even if she's in really good condition. I've got a super minty one and she's got just a slight yellow tinge to her body.

I think her yellow chartreuse hair has always bled a little into her white plastic by now and there's not much you can do about it. Same with Honeycomb and Confetti.
