Title: Puzzle Pandemonium!
Post by: munchy on March 29, 2019, 02:28:39 PM
I thought I was a genius you guys. A pony savant. But Hasbro betrayed me! I found one 80s puzzle years ago that wasn't complete, so I held onto it. My patience paid off and I eventually found the same puzzle again, also not complete. Fantastic! Now I can combine them into one complete puzzle. FALSE! The pieces aren't cut into the same shapes!!! The puzzles don't match!!!   :enraged:

I am, quite frankly, miffed. But I figured I'd pass it along in case anyone else has the same doomed plan.  :nope:

Ouch. I'm trying to do the same with some Lion King puzzles I found, but now I'm wondering if they'll be the same  :yikes:

Wow that is infuriating!  If you have the box, you can take a photo, do some editing, and have it printed on heavy cardboard...

Oh dear, that does sound irritating. I hope you're able to find one that matches yours eventually...

Wow, I wonder if that's a standard practice for puzzles.

Wow, I thought all of copies of the same puzzle would be cut the same.

OMG I had the same issue I bought another puzzle to combine it and found they were cut differently too. BOO
I can only think if we can Photoshop the image and cut pieces of similar thick board.

I completely understand! Mine was with a Rainbow Brite puzzle, and I fell for the same ploy twice. Now I have three of the same puzzle, each one with different missing pieces!

The only silver lining to this is that we understand a little more about how they stamp out the puzzles now- the assembly line is completely different in my head than it used to be!

Oh dear, how frustrating! :( It's not too unusual to find the same puzzle pictures that had been run through the die cutter at a 180° rotation from each other. (Or even 90/180/270 if the image is square!) I wonder if that's what happened with yours? If so, you might still have the piece that fits the shape, if not the picture, and you could still make it work if you're very good at cutting and pasting. ^^;

The silver lining to sloppy puzzle manufacturing is that they often use the same cutting pattern for a lot of different images. So, you can sometimes combine two unrelated puzzles in weird new ways!

Maybe if you can't find or make the correct piece to finish your puzzle, you could find an incomplete "twin" puzzle and insert a whole new character into the scene to cover the hole. :P

Oh my! I tend to prefer buying vintage puzzles that are intact, and now I have a very good reason to stick with this. Yikes! I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. :(

Wow, really?? I would be soooo frustrated, too! I never would have thought they'd be cut differently. Weird.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who's encountered this at least! I knew pony people would understand my pain haha. I think they may be destined for the arts and crafts bin unfortunately:(. I'll keep hunting for a complete one in the meantime!
