Title: Who was your first pony?
Post by: nebulavery on June 04, 2019, 12:40:15 PM: If you remember, what was the very first pony you owned? What's their fate now - do you still have them, or were they sold or given away?

For me, it was 2004 Dress-Up Eveningwear Sunny Daze and Sparkleworks, both bought at the same time. I still remember sitting on my bed in my old room and freeing them from their boxes! They now reside with the rest of my G3 herd and are happy to share their outfits from time to time :P

If I can remember correctly, my first ponies were the G3 sister set of Dance around and Dance slippers that my parent bought us at Toys R us. I am really surprised they survived my childhood in decent condition b/c my sister and I took them outside in the sandbox.... :shocked: But I still have them :happy:
Can't wait to see what others ponies were!

Mine was also Windy :D My mother apparently saw them in BHS before Christmas 1984 and thought them so pretty that she bought me one :)

I remember her having the special brush with the star label and the comb so I kept them in a separate thing for a long time. I also remember giving her a shower in an easter egg box when I was about three. I didn't totally take up with MLP after having her, though - I had Baby Blossom next, which got me more interested, and then it gradually grew from there.

Windy still lives with me. She has never stood up properly, so she used to wear either a pony outfit shoe or one of Majesty's most of the time. She is now a lot more beige in places. Her tail is loose and rattles, but overall, she's withstood time quite well.

She can be seen in this picture :D right in the middle.

I still have her all these years later, and she sits on a shelf next to my bed. :)

CottonCandyCafe, I had that playset as a child too! I think it was the first playset I had, actually. What a wonderful way to enter the world of ponies!

Post by: AnnaPommes on June 04, 2019, 10:25:14 PM: i believe my first was Hula and the second was Brilliant Blossom (for my birthday). after that followed lot of ponies and the pony house from the fleamarket. i guess i gave Hula to a friend of my little sister? not sure? but i had a super hard time selling brilliant blossoms at the fleamarket. i was about 13 and BB was the last pony left. When a woman asked the price, i said "10 Mark!" - which was super high at that time and the woman asked me if i -really- want to sell or rather keep her. i wanted to show how grown up i was and the pony went with her but these two girls (BB and Hula) are always super special to me.

i started collecting again with silver mist (blue pegasus g3) and high flyer was the first g1 i bought for my new collection. ^^

I don't remember much, but I had for some time. I had moved with Sweetberry to another town and she sat on my shelf for years with her charm around her neck and her brush by her hoove.

I remember going through some old toys and donating them because I wanna be a grown up, when it came to her I just held her in my hand. My mother said "just keep her since you can't let go of her" and I did, although idk where she is now. I think I donated all my other toys when I went into care many years later.

I hope she's in a good home, with her charm and brush.

I bought another Sweetberry last year, her hair was faded and she didn't have any of her accessories but I still value and love her.

I'd been admiring my girlfriend's childhood ponies which we had recently found, and she bought Baby Ribbon from eBay so that I could have a pony of my very own. Of course I didn't stop at just one though ;). Baby Ribbon will always be my all-time favourite pony.

Asked my girlfriend which was her first pony, but she can't remember. She was only about 3 or 4 when she started buying them in charity shops. She remembers carrying her favourite fakie with her while in her pushchair, so she must have had him a long time! She thinks Wind Whistler was one other first ponies (or maybe even THE first). For some mysterious reason she named her Wind Whistler Chris (presumably short for Christine). She can't remember why but the name has stuck :lol:. She still has all her childhood ponies (hence finding them and getting me started on pony-collecting).

I definitely remember my first G3s though, Sunny Daze, Wysteria, and the Cotton Candy Cafe! I got to pick between Wysteria, Rainbow Dash, Sweetberry, and Sunny Daze, and the remaining two went to a friend/classmate for her birthday.

Skydancer was either 2nd or third... but I wanted her because of my lack of flying ponies. Plus, she had pink eyes. I don't know. In those days, that mattered. Bubbles was my sister's first and only pony. And Blue Ember was the first baby pony I ever saw in person and I could not get over how cute she was. She became a pocket pony.

Thanks! Glory actually has big blue blobs where her stars are suppose to be. The silver rubbed off and little me tried to fix her. :blush:

It was never released as a set so my Mom got me Butterscotch for Christmas. I still have her and my original Confetti, Sundance and Posey.

The bug really started because my sister got the Cotton Candy Cafe with Cotton Candy for her birthday. I remember seeing her and being so in love! I knew I needed to have one too. To this day I wonder if the person who got her that present has any idea what it did to me. :P

I didn't know (or care) what her actual name was, so I always called her Ferris Wheel. And to be honest, I like that name better, so in my heart she'll always be Ferris Wheel. I've still got her, and all of my other childhood ponies, in storage somewhere. I've been wanting to get them out for months now, but I haven't been able to find the box. I know for sure that I never got rid of them, though. Too much sentimental value.

She should still be in good condition, too, aside from being a tad dirty! I took good care of my toys as a kid.

Mum and Dad were both quite influential on the ponies I had really early on. The pastel ones tended to come from Mum's inspiration and the bold ones from Dad. She chose Windy, and she also chose Baby Blossom :) For some reason she really liked the ponies, so when I wasn't immediately hooked on Windy she decided to give it another shot when she saw the babies with their accessories. I believe she chose Blossom deliberately because she would somewhat match Windy's colouring.

...And the rest is history :D

I seem to remember that someone bought the Grooming Parlour for my younger sister, then they bought Cotton Candy for me. The first pony I wanted as an adult was Gusty, but the first pony I got was Wind Whistler. Gusty came not long after.

We did have two Posies though, so one was mine and one was my sister's. I don't have my childhood one anymore, but Posey was the first pony I got when it came to collecting ponies as an adult. She was always my favourite as a kid and she's still my favourite now! :heart:

That's her in the treehouse, pride of place in my collection. Still my favourite pony. :heart:

The one that kickstarted my collection years later, though, was G1 Pony Bride. :)

My first pony was g3 pinkie pie - the first release. I don't remember exactly how I felt getting her from a relative at Christmas but I was hooked.

I intended to keep her when I gave away my childhood collection but she got lost or swept away in the giveaway pile. I'd like to find her again.

I got her when I was about five or six as a present from my mom <3 Funny story, when I asked for her, I just said that I wanted the 'Strawberry pony' and my mom accidentally bought me a Strawberry Shortcake pony instead, and then just bought Strawberry Swirl as well later when the mistake was realized. She went everywhere with me, even to Disney Build-A-Pony <3 Although most of her accessories have long since gone missing, I still have her, and she's in pretty good condition for being a first pony! Just a little frizz at the end of her tail and a bit of yellowing, looks like. Here she is:

Last year when I dug all my ponies out of storage she got a thorough cleaning/spa day and looks quite lovely now. All of the marks that were on her came out quite easily.

When I was little, I had G1 Starglow and G3 Rainbow Flash, Petal Blossom, Scooter Sprite, Baby Romperooni, and Baby Flower Flash. G1 Starglow was given to me by my older sister who originally owned her. The G3s were gifts for either my birthday or Christmas.

As a collector, the first pony I got was a Build-a-Bear Rainbow Dash. I was on crutches for my 14th birthday, and my family took my sister and I to Build-a-Bear since it was something I could do on crutches. I was drawn towards the ponies for whatever reason and picked Rainbow Dash. Then literally a week later I went back for Applejack who had just come out that day.

I received them both as birthday presents when I was... well, let's not do the math. ^^; Needless to say, I was hooked from then on. I never got "too old" for ponies -- I kept buying them from the store well into my teens, right up until the end of G1 in the US. I was pretty disappointed... but then I found The Internet, and it was all downhill from there. :lol:

My very very first ponyish toys were fakies.

One of them was a glow in the dark baby donkey! One like this (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~tYAAOSw8axZ6NoJ/s-l300.jpg), it was yellow with three red stars on its hip and was glowing in the dark. I got it when I was 3 or maybe close to being 4. Sadly it got stolen in kindergarten :( I got a replacement soon, a pink one with blue stars (gitd too) and I still have it! It was lost 90% of its hair though :P It still faintly glows.
I remember, when I was allowed to pick said replacement... we went to visit Woolworth for that and they had original MLP. I saw Twinkle Eyed Ponies there and toooootally wanted either Fizzy, TicTacToe or Locket. SO BADLY! But they were pricey... so I got another baby donkey *sigh*

Then, for Easter 1986, when I was 4yo, I got a Mommy and Baby Set (fakies), like this one (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/FqMAAOSwhTBa-KhW/s-l300.jpg). They were lavender-colored and I deeply loved them. I remember, my dad made a house from a cardboard box for them and I played with them for hours and hours! This set really started the pony-craze!
I sadly only have Baby Pony still today; I gave Mommy Pony away to a girl in my street when I was 7yo. She had only little toys and no ponies at all so I gave her half of my fakie-herd, including my doubles of a blue Simba Mommy & Baby Set (I still remember clearly that I told her the "Mommy" was indead a Daddy and she kept that through the following years <3). No idea why I really seperated the pair, I guess it was because I never loved Mommy Pony that much (always thought her eyes were a little creepy lol).

And then, at any point between being 4yo and getting my first genuine Hasbro Pony, I recieved at least one Remco Pony (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f2/ab/91/f2ab91a672b1597f7c522064be1ffd35.jpg) (maybe more)! I dont have her/them anymore, she/they went to the girl I mentioned above. I dont remember the exact color, I think she was pink or maybe blue. I vividly remember that rainbow hair-thingy though! I ADORED that little rainbow!! Still have it today XD

Yes, an then... Hasbro Ponies came to me!! No idea which one was first :P I remember having Whirly and Cool Breeze pretty early in my life. And Baby Cuddles. But really no idea who came first. I wish I did!

Magic Star is still in fairly nice condition, but Truly is a little well-loved. That's ok, they're allowed to be a bit sparse on fuzz, just as they are, as that's how I know them. They both still have their stands, stickers, and combs.

Thats probably because I would take her anywhere and she was stored in a musty shelf with my other toys. Her pristine white body has become yellow and sticky to touch.

My daughter used to have that set. She broke the control and scooter and lost the helmet, but she still has Scoot-a-loo.

I think it was Clover but had some relatives from the UK bring me over a Patch as well and I cannot remember who was first now. But definitely, a memory that threw me into the mlp world as a kid.

And just because we are talking childhood - my first baby ponies were Blossom, Firefly and Glory and they are probably my most played with too. I loooved them- got them between 4-5 years old :heart: (baby Ribbon is also a later addition).

Bubbles, Seashell and Applejack were all victims of the Mysterious Pony Mass Disappearance, however I have now replaced them all. Well, except SA Windy. But then I mean: SA Windy... I do have HK Windy, Italian Windy, and both of the anniversary ponies.

I came across a post of g1 MLP online somewhere when I was like 12, and realized we had one upstairs. I went and dug through the toys and there she was, Tuneful, with the small braid I'd put in her otherwise down hair years before. She's the center of my collection now. I also bought her MOC, I think maybe the UK card first, but I wanted the US more and finally found the US on Ebay one day.

I didn't even know that MLP was a franchise when I was young lol. My parents were very traditional, and preferred us to play outside, rather than with toys. I didn't even have cable tv until I was 18.

My sister had Glory, and I had Star Hopper, both carefully chosen at a school-organized rummage sale. I loved Star Hopper so much. I would sleep with her next to my pillow, and turn her so when I opened my eyes every morning, I'd see her looking back at me. In elementary school ceramics, I made a clay version of Star Hopper (which aside from the colors didn't look anything like her lol). Somewhere in late high school, Star Hopper got misplaced in a box or somewhere D: My sister let me use her ebay account and we spent hours looking for another. I was probably 16 or 17 at the time. That was when I learned my glittery unicorn actually had a name - Star Hopper - and that oh my heavens this wasn't a one-off, there's like a whole WORLD full of these ponies! I bought the only Star Hopper I could find, which happened to be the white-haired mail order one. A year or so after that I found my original, so I had Star Hopper twins! (I named the mail order Sky Hopper)

Now of course, as you can see in my sig, I've got the full sparkle collection. They will always be the favorites. When I'm old and wrinkled and gray and have donated all my ponies, I'll still keep my glittery sparkles, and I don't know... will them to someone else? I've considered being buried/cremated with my original Star Hopper, but will I still care about that 30+ years from now? We'll see I guess.
