Title: How Many G4 Collectors Left?
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on September 18, 2018, 05:57:58 PM
Just curious what with all the negative reviews/thoughts toward G4 I've been seeing. With the generation (hopefully potentially) wrapping up, I'd like to see who's left! I hope 2 votes is enough for everyone.
Personally, I started out collecting in general with G4, but I've started focusing only on the Cutie Mark Crew and I'm looking to thin out the superfluous ponies (so many Pinkies) to make room for G5. I think part of it may be that it's mostly my money now rather than my parent's where I think a bit more about what exactly I'm spending.

I've stopped collecting G4 since the switch to new molds. I only picked up the male ponies. There are a few more I want to get, as I'd like one of each pony (so I'm missing characters like spitfire, tempest, and some of the original mold side characters), but it's been pushed to the backburner. I check the toy aisles with disdain and find myself seeking out items for my other collections. My dying love of G4 has kinda pushed me away from pony, I hope G5 fixes it.

I've stopped collecting completely at this point and recently reduced my collection down to just 11 ponies. I still do pay attention to releases and would buy if something caught my interest but that is unlikely. I never got on with the reboot style besides the boys, much like you it seems Bekuno. With Funko vinyls stopping and mini figures getting too repetitive there was really nothing else left for me. I stopped collecting random merch much earlier. I still watch the show, though not super invested, and I love my few figures I have left but it's definitely run its course for me and I'm ready for it to end.
I'm still lurking around the arena though, obviously

I will still pick up new/unique characters but they are few and far between.  I’m concentrating more on the retro and vintage ponies right now.

I <3 G4,  but I am not all that into the redesign that they did for the movie toys. I have all of the ones from G4 that I would like, though I really can't bring myself to want ALL of the G4.5. There are very specific ones that I want, mostly of Starlight Glimmer, Sunset Shimmer, Rarity and Applejack. I like some of the princesses, I want all of the colts and seaponies/hippogriffs, but not all of the 4.5 line.

Currently I am focusing more on retros and recovering my lost collection of G1s. Have most of the G3s I want save for one I am constantly on the hunt for, and I am passively collecting some G2. I switched gears when G4.5 came around and I just couldn't stand how most of them looked.

I'd actually say my G4 collecting has increased since the change to the new G4.5 molds. It's for a variety of reasons. I certainly enjoy the new designs and dynamic poses, buy it's also got a lot to do with international postage prices increasing again and again, making G4 more accessible than G1.

Only interested if/when there are new characters :-)
I just bought the new TAF-style Trixie the other day! She's pretty

I’ve been kinda focusing on the Cutie Mark Crew lately, because honestly, the quality of the brushables stinks.  But I’ll get a brushable every now and again if it’s a character I love.  But, really, I’m just staying for the Cutie Mark Crew.

I never collected that much of G4 because I like collecting one of each character/new characters and Hasbro doesn't really do that much anymore. But like others here, I stopped entirely on the reboot. Same thing happened to me with the monster high reboot. If they have some variety in g5 I'll get back to buying them.

I was never hardcore into collecting G4.  I do still buy the occasional pony, and I've been buying a lot of the Cutie Mark Crew lately.  They are just too stinking cute!

I like the post reboot ponies more, they have a lot more variety than the poses that came before.

I chose very rare purchases. I picked up the Pearly Mane 6 and the Pearly Cadence and Shining Armor today but otherwise I haven't bought one in months.

I was never deeply into buying G4s, but I would occasionally pick up a cute pony here and there. I feel I've got all the G4s I want now. I'm waiting to see if G5 is cute!

I started off with tons of love and excitement for G4. I was so burnt out from G3.5 that I took a break from MLP and didn't even know a reboot was happening! My dad happened to run across the 1st FiM episode and recorded it for me and I was immediately hooked! I remember really stalking the stores around here in those first few months waiting for the new toys to hit. And when they did I bought nearly everything! It was more fun at the beginning honestly, the show was new and fresh with all kinds of potential and the toys had some variety! Even though the mane 6 dominated, there were still new characters mixed in.

But now I'm burnt out on this generation. The show has well run its course and I'm so sick of the mane 6. Their characters don't really interest me anymore and how many of the same pony does one person need? The only time we see new characters released it seems like they're packaged with some member of the mane 6, so you're stuck getting yet another duplicate if you want that pony! I think even kids must be tired, all the stores around here have severely cut back on the size of their pony sections. A lot of stores don't even have an overhead marker for them anymore! They're just tucked in between other more popular lines.

I'm just really glad Bridge Direct/Basic Fun is doing the 35th ponies. I've had a lot of fun hunting for them and collecting them, even if they are re releases! :P At least they've been off store shelves for decades! They feel new again!

I have no issues with this line ending soon. All the re-releases are so dull and uninspiring.
My last purchases were Tempest Shadow and Soarin'. Only new character brushables for me :\

I got in at ground zero with the toyline and obsessively collected all the brushables, right up until Rainbow Power when a good 60-70% of the sets just didn’t come to Aus stores  it was going to be a huge hassle to import and I started really focussing on what I truly wanted and what I could live without. What I loved most was new characters and those were getting few and far between... the G4’s sat on the shelf for a while without getting anyone new added in, then I packed them all away in boxes and stored them in the cupboard while focussing on other collections including G1 ponies. Eventually about 18 mths ago I dug them out and did a massive purge, hundreds of brushables and plush and playsets gone, with only my top faves remaining. I feel much happier now and I’m content to add only 1-2 new ponies a year as they release new characters (Tempest and Sandbar most recently).

I only collect non mane 6 characters, and I only pick up Mane 6 if they appeal to me at the carboot sale (so I have a lot of water cuties and rainbow powers because the colour schemes make them look like different ponies). I only look in toy stores because of a couple of AA ponies I don't have, but if I never find them I don't really care.

My disdain for the series is repetitive toys that lack any kind of imagination and the fact I really don't like the television show. So I got into G4 only when I found a few in Finland in 2011 and I have always just picked up ponies if I like them, not with any obsessive need to complete or spend stupid amounts on them.

They're not G1. My heart broke as a kid when I found out G1 had ended. I haven't hated any generation toywise since G1, although 3.5 is really odd. But I haven't felt the same connection, either. So I don't really care when those lines end and there's something new or nothing at all. It's fine. I am much more hyped about the retros, even with them being rereleases of the same ponies. Because, frankly, there have been more versions of Pinkie Pie and Twilight Sparkle in the last 5 years than there have been versions of Windy and Sunlight in the last 35.

I'm still collecting as much as I ever did: I pick up what I like and leave everything else. Haven't liked a lot of the recent releases (and the stuff I DO like didn't make it over here.. -glances at last few waves of blindbags-) so things have been slow lately, but.. ?? I dunno, does that still count as actively collecting?

I stopped buying completely when they switched to the new molds.  I still have a good amount of custom bait of the old style G4's left over, and I certainly have plenty of inspiration to work on customs, but I am setting aside some of the released ponies to sell, since I'm not as thrilled with some of the designs anymore.
Title: Re: How Many G4 Collectors Left?

I'm not fond of G4 due to the show, insane parts of the subset fans, hyper-focus on the mane sux, the way they look and distinct intent to steer clear of its roots of being both a brushable  horse toyline and as a collectable with tons of variety.

I got in really late, when the Water Cuties started popping up. I have about 20 some odd ponies and am almost finished. Just need another water cutie, some merponies,  school of friendship, and the bat pony.

The only new mould ponies I've bought are the mers, a boy and Songbird Serenade.

I'm hoping that G5 will return as a variated brushable horse toyline and I'm still mostly focused on G1 and G3.

I've never got into G4s. At first, I didn't like their pose very much, but then I ended up thinking "eh, they are fine, I guess" since the new mold (G4.5) showed up because those are worse. lol. But still, I don't like them enough. The only G4s brushables I have were gifts (4) plus one from a lot. They are doing good in my glass cabinet, one of them is a custom I want to start over with.
I'm a bit more into the first McDonald's versions and I happen to pick some of them up in flea markets when they're not too expensive.
And I also have one blind bag as a gift, too*. The only thing I actually bought was a box of sparkly mane 6 "blind bags" plus one green male back in 2012~ish and a Fluttershy keychain at the end of last year.

So, yeah, overall, let's say I've never started to collect G4s. I hope G5s will be more satisfying.

* : Well... I went to check on it in my glass cabinet and it seems like I've lost it. Hope I'll find it again. That's not fun. 3:

Not sure which poll option I'd most accurately fall under so I haven't voted yet. Right now I've been buying G4s that are either new or less commonly made characters, and ponies with gimmicks that I'm drawn to. The past year and a half I had added a lot to my collection since G4.5 had begun, so I wanted to get as many characters in that G4.5 style as I could. I do have multiple versions of some Mane 6 ponies, for both G4 and G4.5, and in most instances the subsequent ones were either thrift finds, or they came with sets that had other non-Mane 6 ponies with them. I do thrift all ponies I don't already own and this does apply to different releases of the same characters, so that's how I've ended up with a lot of Pinkie Pies, Rainbow Dashes, etc. Though there are sometimes different versions of the Mane 6 that I do buy new because their gimmicks appeal to me, such as all of the pearlized seaponies, the regular pearlized Mane 6 from before the reboot, and the first All About Fluttershy (I really love the scene on that one).

At the moment there's not many new pony things out from this current toy reset that interests me much. I adore Cutie Mark Crew so I'd like to get a ton of those, but aside from that, the only other things I plan on getting are the Silly Faces Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash. But that's less so actually thinking they're good toys, and more that I tend to be drawn toward the more weird pony toys in addition to ones that I genuinely love. Those Silly Faces ponies are terrifying and I'm drawn to them because of it. :P

I am interested a bit in that set with the CMC at Walmart, but the $50 price puts me off considering I'd only be getting it for three ponies, and I dislike the painted clothing, so I think I'll just hold off and see if they release the CMC in G4.5 form without terrible painted clothes and not in an expensive set.

Most of the regular pony toys for the fall season that caught my attention aren't out yet and will be coming in a few months. Stuff like the sets with Sandbar and Silverstream, the Best Gift Ever line (look, I'm a sucker for pearlized ponies, I eat that up), and the glittery TAF-esque singles. The only normal ponies from the first half of the fall season I plan on buying like I said before are the Silly Faces ponies, and that's purely out of my odd tendency to be drawn toward the more weird pony toys and merchandise.

Mostly I've been focusing on expanding my Shopkins collection, which I just started almost three months ago. That's got a lot more variety than MLP at the moment....

I still pick up new Fluttershy toys, but only when they're on offer.

Other than that, I'm burned out on G4. I think I got tired of seeing Twilight, Rainbow and Pinkie everywhere. These days I don't even see Fluttershy as much as I used to.

I used to have a small collection of G4s in the early days purely because "yay! ponies! nostalgia!", but then I kind of figured that was a naff excuse to be collecting something, especially as I'm not a fan of the art style in G4 (to each their own, if I had my way I'd be holding out for Rococo-style ponies!), so I passed them on to someone who would appreciate them more.

I used to collect them a lot, but since I have a pretty strict 1 pony per character rule (2-3 for the main 6) that means I've got almost everyone so it's slowed down quite a bit. Plus, I'm not as big of a fan of the new models.

I have picked up some clearanced ponies ,g4.5 killed it for me but did get maybe 3 or 4 since they were new characters or never before made brushables of them like Big Mac ,Songbird and Soarin, sea ponies were not that appealing either but did get 3 that were at 60 % off at target as well as some of the baby sea ponies ,I also got some G4 articulated ones again because they were characters never released before on toy like cheese sandwich with Cannon and the wings with sounds set of the wonderbolts  I think they were like 8 m, I only got a couple .
But today I got me the Cutie Mark Crew Mcdonald ponies , Rarity and Pinkie , I will hunt the rest :) I like them a lot

I seldom buy G4's, but it's been that way throughout. I've tried to approach all the generations that way, to just choose favorites and focus on acquiring those instead of being a completion-est (or worse, impulsive!) Zero judgment- I've just got limited space, and I chose the most idiosyncratic and personal way to prioritize...I buy the ones I like the most!  ^.^

I got frustrated with SO many versions of the same pony.  Eventually I will pick up one of each G4 pony but probably loose, and used.  MAYBE one or two variants I like.  After all, even the original G1s had some that came out with a different version, like the so-softs and such.

G1 is my first pony love but I do have quite a few G4s. It's kind of funny that I don't have a plain unicorn Twilight Sparkle, all of my ponies of her are either Princess Twilights or her sea pony form.

I bought a lot of the MLP movie ponies/sets including 16 (2 of each) Baby sea ponies, two Princess Skystars, sea pony Mane 6 (missing Rarity) and 2 brushable Tempest. If I like a G4 pony, I buy it. :)

I was pretty much collecting everything when the line started, for the first couple years. Then I cut back to just lines I really liked and new characters. Now it's very rare that I get a G4 pony. I just don't need another Mane 6 with repeat accessories and weird gimmicks. The line is feeling boring.

Somewhere between 'very rare purchases' and 'never collected G4' - how can those both be true, you ask?  Well I've bought exactly one G4 first hand - a Rainbow Dash with bangs, that'll tell you how long ago it was.  Other than that it's exclusively non-Mane 6 brushables for me, only second-hand and only if they're ~1$ each or less.   I have around twenty-some G4's, and not ever likely to have a big collection.  I don't even have an Applebloom or Scootaloo, though I've seen them for sale but not at a price I'd pay.

I love reading all these responses. I actually just packed away a few of my G4s into a box last night because they're a bit of a pain to display, and I weeded out some doubles to give to my friend's babysittee.
It's interesting to see how the reboot has effected some collections. I actually felt re-ignited to collect while it completely turned some people off.

As I need only ONE pony of EACH character, and as I like the variety of pose, I've downsized to the main characters on the "new" reboot toy line. I'm currently looking for the movie characters but it seems they will never hit my town
I definely do not collect g4 seriously, I don't like the toys much, it's pure fandom. So I really just stick to my basic wishes (wich is really the only gen I can do that).
And it seems by their place in store getting sooo tinyier and tinyier and the new stock never coming that they just DON'T SELL in my area.

G4 is what reignited my pony collecting interest. But I consider myself out of the game because I'm short on display space. But I did cheat and buy a Princess Skystar in hippogriff form with Pinkie Pie because it was on sale and I liked it. Oh, and I do plan to get Sandbar when he is in stores... so I guess I'm rarely collecting and only my must have characters from the show/movie/EQG media.

But seriously, yikes, just look at the G4.5 Cadance’s legs... Is it honestly even a horse anymore?

This.
So much this.
With whipped cream on top.

And the bulbous heads and doofy eyes that make them look cross-eyed when you look at them straight-on. They were pretty rough with pre-2017 ponies, but anything in G4.5 is AWFUL. They don't look nearly as elegant as pre-2017.

It's also worth mentioning that around the time Cadence was being added into the toy line, Celestia lost her frivolous pink model. If I had to guess, it was because they had a new "pretty pink princess" now, and better yet, they could make bank off of a wedding playset with her.
You're right on that! Cadance was essentially a replacement for Pink Celestia.
Title: Re: How Many G4 Collectors Left?
Post by: LadyMoondancer on September 20, 2018, 05:23:33 PM
It's a vicious circle between the retailers and the toy companies.  Companies like Wal-Mart, Target, and the late TRU (rip) have a lot of influence. They don't HAVE to put every Hasbro toy on their shelves.  And if they think a toy won't sell, they'll make requests (or demands).  Like:  "Make big talking pony pink.  Girls love pink."

I suspect that's why Celestia originally got changed to pink.  Hasbro originally did intend for her to be white, as her prototype is white on all the backcards of her toys--even the Pinkestia era ones. :P

And yeah, I totally agree that Cadence got selected to fulfill the "pink princess" role after fans clamored for white Celestia.  Lauren Faust even commented that Cadence was originally designed to be a unicorn.

I don't know about the whole pink Celestia thing, there. More recent official art from the movie have given her a pink hue.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I like this Celestia more than the pure white or pure pink, myself.

Even then, the toys of Cadance are not the baby cotton candy pink that she is in the show, and that's been since her inception. The toys pre-movie have made her more of a fuchsia pink than the pink Celestia is/was, so I have some doubt that everything we have heard has been 100% the truth between the toys and whatnot.

If they were more on point with the ponies' accessories and colors (...and less creepy toys...) I would be more into getting newer ones, despite the overuse of the mane 6. I really don't mind that- I mind the necessity for over-suspension of disbelief that you have to have with the current toys (the legs of these molds being stuck together (http://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB16hoTltfJ8KJjy0Feq6xKEXXak.jpg) :\ ) and how they just are not lifted straight from the show cannon (the gowns from the Grand Galloping Gala only being available years later, and for Build-A-Bear plushies, but not for the figures).

I REALLY dislike the new brushable molds. Something about their balloon heads noodle legs, and tiny pointed snouts really displeases me! I like the older generation 4 molds much better and found myself buying any new character they released, and the occasional re-release of the core 6 and princesses if the gimmick/design was interesting. It’s a shame, because I’d love to buy the brushables! Especially the new characters like Big Mac and Soarin! The last G4 pony I purchased was Princess Skystar.

I'm still going strong ... sort of? The panicky "gotta catch 'em ALL" has faded significantly, so you don't find me obsessively stalking the toy aisle so much these days. Mostly, I try to wait for stuff I REALLY like (or that is HTF, like anything Luna!), and wait for sales on the other stuff. I've been pretty good at keeping up with the blind bags, since I know they're a nightmare to track down individually secondhand, but otherwise I'm taking things slow. Still check the pony aisle every time I'm at the store, though!

I haven't bought anything from a store for years. My love for the toyline quickly vanished once they were done with new single characters.

I wnated to get Skystar because I thought the hippogriff mould was unique enough to blend in with the old!mould ponies I still had.
But I never saw her in stores and when she popped up online the set she was in was overpriced.

I started to watch the show again one year ago to catch up on all the seasons I had missed and when Starlight Glimmer appeared I suddenly had a reason to be interested in G4's storyline again, so when I see Starlight I am tempted to get her. But so far I haven't had much luck on that front either.

I am so ready for G5. I have been ready for years.
Outside of a few cartoon episodes G4 just isn't very interesting to me anymore. I still love my rare G4s, tho. I have cut down on a lot of G4 but I will always treasure my Starswirl and Rainbow Flash

I'm still buying some of the toys, but I haven't been so enthusiastic about most of the new stuff. I'm really only buying non-Mane 6 characters now unless I like the gimmick.

I'm actually pretty happy with the new poses! :-P I think they're more fun and dynamic than the previous ones. However, I don't buy a lot of G4s. Like many others have said, I don't need more of the Mane Six, and that seems to be all they're putting out! Not to mention the abysmal quality control.

I'm so disappointed that Skystar and Capper and the like only come in packs with Mane 6 toys. I want the movie characters, but I'm not going to pay $15 dollars, (at what I make, that comes out to almost TWO HOURS OF MY LIFE!!!), for a poorly made hippogriff and a duplicate pony.

I'm going to buy the Ultimate Equestria Collection, (mostly because I love the princesses), and that's going to be my last Big Purchase of the rest of the toyline. I just don't see Hasbro changing their production style this late in the game, so I doubt they're going to put out anything else I want.

Yeah I have done with this line my self, I will keep all the non main 6 characters (bar applejack for my army) I have just because it took so long to find them at good prices. Other than that I do not intent to increase them by any more.

I do need to buy something to display them on however currently they fit in to a small storage box so they are not exactly taking up Mitch room till I can sort them out.

Though I might be the only person in the world with out a pinkie pie  :P

Definitely feeling the burnout as far as G4 is concerned. After the reboot I've bought very little.  Soarin, Tempest Shadow, Songbird Serenade and I think that's it. The reboot figures just don't do it for me as much and Guardians of Harmony seems to be fizzling out as well so there's not much left I'm interested in.

I wonder how popular these will be(come) as collectible in a couple of years like other Gens - G2 certainly garnered a loyal following years after its end, but at least that line had pose and character diversity.

very rare purchases, unless it's not a mane 6 character. I did buy a few of the CMC blind capsules, with some unopened right now... but as for as normal ponies... unless I'm baiting them I don't buy them.

I am burnt out on the mane six, other than some newer gen 4 and some much older ones I am done.  I would love to find tempest in the wild but my wall mart stinks. The pony section is ever shrinking.

I wonder how popular these will be(come) as collectible in a couple of years like other Gens - G2 certainly garnered a loyal following years after its end, but at least that line had pose and character diversity.

It will depend on when the kids who have grown up with G4 grow up and reach that age. Just like with the G3 collectors who have reached that age and now are looking back to their childhood collections. G2 was kind of different because it was so badly sold in the US and so those who grew up with them as kids are mostly in Europe...it doesn't necessarily follow that all of them speak English so G2 has become kind of a niche collection that has gradually grown in popularity among other collectors, not just those who grew up with them.

G3 were popular from the outset, like G1 and G4, but then saturated the market, like G1 did and G4 also are doing, and ultimately went out of vogue and got sold off cheaply. G3 and G4 both had adults collecting at the time they were out, though, so it's probable a MIP pony from those generations isn't going to reach G1 prices easily. Although the fact that some G4 prices are already inflated is a bit concerning...I feel like the bottom is falling out of the collectable market for G4 and that prices are going to seriously crash - so spending $50 or more on a G4 is highly risky right now, even if she wasn't sold in your area.

I am personally hoping to find a flood of Holly Dashes here which, when the price bombs and they're all worth nothing, I can then trade for ponies not sold in my area to people who couldn't get her. I miss trading pony for pony without $ values getting in the way, so that is my ultimate hope for G4 collecting. Maybe that's kind of weird.

I still like the earlier ones that aren't mane 6 though and would trade for them or buy them if I found them second hand. It's the repetitive mane 6 that are stifling this line, not G4 in general.

Definitely agreeing with everyone here saying "Very rare," that was my vote as well. Only new characters for me, too! I've really only ever collected characters other than the Mane 6 anyway. I have one of each of them except for Twerlot Sporkle and now actively avoid them all if I can.
Even now, if they did release new characters, I'd have a hard time buying one because of the mold changes. I did really like the merponies, but they had a bit of a different face because of their breed so I was okay with it.
I do still really love the boy molds though. Snapped up Soarin in a heartbeat and have been circling like a shark for Sandbar.

Definitely have never focused much on G4 all around though I'd say, I prefer G1, 2 and 3. Very interested to see what becomes of G5.

I feel like future G4 collectors might have a merchandise bend rather than a "mostly pony toys" bend.  Like for someone whose favorite character was Fluttershy, maybe they will be going for Fluttershy banks, umbrellas, suitcases, etc.

I'm not very familiar with the G4 line since I haven't watched much of the show. However, they have been popping up on the local secondhand market - so I pick them up when I see them. I have enough now to call it a collection  :)

Really the only reason why I'm still a g4 collector is because I still have a few more ponies left to get from early in the line back when there were non mane 6 characters. ( the now "rare" ponies) Otherwise if I had them all I would have stopped long ago because those re-releases of the mane 6 are really really really getting so annoying..stg we need more variety of characters Hasbro but that will never happen because it's almost over for g4 and they're not putting much effort. :pout:

Started out strong, had a focus on Applejack merchandise  (Both official and fan-made) about a year or two into the height of the G4 fandom. Slowed down significantly nowadays, I'm not a fan of the newer G4 molds. Besides, older gen MLP toys actually look like ponies, G4's kinda remind me of mice.

I don't really like the newer moulds but I have a few. I was given the new star-glittery Trixie and AA Songbird Serenade for Christmas and I've a few other AA ponies (Soarin, Tempest) because they're different...but it doesn';t bother me much if the newest line out in the US don't get to the UK. I'm more interested in the retros...

I still enjoy G4. I now only collect new released ponies or anything Muffins related (though its definitely slowed down since nothing new of her has been released.)

With Hasbro's non stop re-releasing of the main 6 collecting them has been a bore when going down the toy aisle. Oh... look... a bunch of Rainbow Dash, Pinkie's, and Twilight's...... >->

Still collecting, mostly filling gaps rather than expanding into new sets. As always, the price has to be right, and that's only been happening with new-old stock at the discounters. Now the G3 collection... that's expanding a lot more.

Never gave up, and still not sick of them! I love G4!

While G1 will always be tops for me I definitely am still collecting G4.   Amazon Canada currently has some insanely cheap prices so I've made some recent purchases (Seapony Fluttershy $2.34, plush bobbles $3, Celestia collector figure $8, playsets for under $8) and today found a Blossomforth on the shelf of a grocery store.

there are some pre-reboot i want to pick up (like styling sizes and water cuties), but otherwise i'm done with it... mostly because it started to become a pain to get them for a while, since there were no dedicated toy stores here for a year or so, and places like tesco got less and less... now we have 3 toy stores, but only one has an mlp shelf, and it's tiny and moves slowly... i think my last g4 i bought was the water cuties luna, though i got a plushie as a gift since. i also got some blind bags after that, but i don't have them anymore.

Was never really interested aside from a few that I never ended up getting cuz money. I'm not a fan of the proportions of G4 ponies, but I've ended up with a few as gifts from people. 2 Blind bags and 2 of those Twisty Twirly Hairstyle ponies. Not a fan of the waxy yarn hair, but well.. they were gifts, I don't wanna be ungrateful. It's like McDonalds ponies, even if you actively try to avoid then, they still end up in your house.

Actually, I wonder if those Twisty Hair ponies can have normal hair inserted in place of the wool... they'd look so much nicer with normal hair but I don't have the patience to rehair, lol.

I collect all gens including G4  although that was never my fave (due to the body proportions -  although G4 has the best show) . My focus is always more on G1 followed by G3, but I do have quite a lot of G4 too and I haven't given up collecting them. I have more of the early/rare release ones because I mostly don't bother with duplicate mane 6 anymore. If I see a new character then I'll get it (especially boys) , so I still check toy aisles hoping to find one ;)   .
It's been a tough line to collect in the Uk  :drunk: :yikes:

Random question in the first thread I found that was about G4; Are the new ponies with open mouths (?) and all new poses (also bigger heads?) considered G4.5? I think they're so cute, I like them a lot better than the ponies I've thought to be G4. They have always seemed to plain to me, no different poses or facial expressions. But today I saw this Fluttershy (https://a1toys.com/media/catalog/product/cache/7/image/1800x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/4/2/4228BB918E751DE3E42632EA9B6BD3CF.jpg) today at the store and fell in love! Yes, those are the G4.5s! I prefer these molds over the previous ones, too. I'm so happy that even though Hasbro is still churning out the same characters constantly, they at least have given us new and expressive poses now!

I will buy a pony if it's a new character or if it's something unique that I find appealing. However, I really don't like the new body style so I'm really at the point of buying next to nothing in the G4 line anymore.

I did over christmas find a few of the oddball pearly characters at Family Dollar, so I tend to buy those that are not the main 6. But I'm really not buying the new stuff because all of it looks like the exact same thing over and over, it's just boring IMO.

I haven't collected actively in a very long time (G4's as well as other generations) but I do still technically consider myself a G4 collector even though I haven't actually bought anything G4 related in a few years.

I got properly fedd up with the line when the Mane 6 was released for about the billionth time and around the same time life got me out of pony collecting overall anyway.

I do plan on purchasing the G4's I'm interested in and still don't have at some point down the line. Like the pearlized singles that there's only 1-ish versions of and the Reboot series Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy as I do have an army of those two. But I definitely don't intend to get every last pony ever released from the G4 line as I've done with other lines. There's only so many doubles a girl can take...

This will all be yet further down the line, though.

also very interested in the new G4.5 Fashion Style size ponies.  I might get one of each of those too.

still collecting but I'm focused on the already scrapped action figure line. I gave up on brushables and stuck with the ponyville size. So I'm down to needing the last two of those playsets (rarity and canterlot) And the action fig line I have everything but the new CMCs. If something cute comes out I'll pick it up but I'm not a fan of the new blind bags or much on the market currently
