I always love the Halloween Swap. Griffin has some fun tastes, and I had a lot of fun making this creature for her.

Here is the story I wrote (from information online and in podcasts) and printed on the diorama:
Kelpies are mysterious and crafty creatures. Being intelligent in nature, they are able to assume many forms to draw in their prey. While known to take on the appearance of a beautiful man or woman, the kelpie prefers to take on the form of a black horse. Many a fool has happened upon a kelpie wandering the edge of the marsh and thought himself lucky to find a free horse to work his fields or carry him on his journey. Instead, the kelpie ensures their work and journey comes to a bloody, watery end. Children too have met an unfortunate fate after meeting a disguised kelpie. One such tale tells of a boy and his friend who find an all-too-beautiful black stallion wandering the water’s edge. Entranced by its eyes and flowing mane, they were amazed to see the horse allowed them to approach, and the friend was delighted that the horse allowed him to mount. As the boy reached out to pet the horse his friend had mounted, they were horrified to find they were now cemented to its skin. Realizing their mistake too late, they were pulled under the cold, dark water. Thinking quickly, the boy was able to cut his finger from his hand and make an escape, only to be forever haunted by the memory of the kelpie and his friend who met a terrible end.
In honor of the story, he has a finger still clinging to him!

Interestingly enough, as I was taking pictures I found an "orb" where the cut off finger was!
