MLPArena Card Swap 2015
Get those pens and cards ready - IT'S CARD SWAP TIME!
The annual card swap is back for its 10th year.

Everyone and anyone can join. Participants will send and received 5 cards, but not necessarily to the same people - so it will be a surprise who you receive cards from.

**RULES & Things to keep in mind:
1: Each group will have a variety of addresses - USA, Canada, Europe, etc. If you cannot send cards overseas, please do not join. You should plan to spend at least $20 for cards and mailing.
2: If at any point you run into trouble or delays, PM me ASAP.
3: You MUST include your Arena username when you sign your card, so the person receiving your card knows who you are! Make sure your username is legible.
4. You must complete the photo check-in [via PM] by the deadline.
5: You must let me know [via PM] when you have mailed your cards.
6: You must let me know [via PM] when you receive cards and from who. Each and every card.
7: You must ship within the set deadline.
8: No glitter bombs.

**Expectations of swappers:
1: You may get a variety of cards - various holidays, traditions, cultures, and religions. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not join.
2: Cards can be store bought, hand made, computer print-outs, postcards - whatever you want. They don't have to be pony-related.
3: Active participation in this swap thread.

**Requirements to join: have been here at least 3 months with a post count of 100 posts or higher
(ie - must have joined July 2015 or earlier)
No - I will not deviate from these requirements, please do not ask. I will not respond to those messages.
If you don't have enough posts yet, get posting. If you don't have long enough membership, hopefully you will join us next year.

NOTE: You can enter a maximim of 4 swaps which together count as 1 place in your swap profile. Entry will be at the moderating team's discretion. Participants will not be cleared until ALL of their cards are received by their partners.

**How to join: Please PM me (ArenaHunt) with the following info:
Name (first and last):
Mailing Address (full address as should appear on the envelope, including country):
Secret Word: (this is an unique word to this swap and is not the same as the other swaps)

**Last day to join: November 6.
Please take this as seriously as you would any other swap. Once I have sent the group lists out - you cannot drop out. If you have any doubts about being able to fulfill your requirement, don't join. Appropriate feedback will be left for any drop-outs.

**Initial partner lists will contain only usernames and countries. You'll 3 weeks of November to get your cards ready. Addresses will be sent after check-ins are complete.

**Photo check-in deadline: November 27.
To prove you are ready to put your cards in the mail, and to get your address lists, everyone must PM me a PHOTO for their check-in.

Anyone that does not submit a photo of their ready-to-mail postcards for the check-in will be dropped from the swap (and appropriate feedback will be left). That means you will not be sent your address list if you don't submit a check-in, and you will not be included on any other address lists (you will not receive any cards from the swap).

**Card Mailing:
All cards are to be mailed by December 12.
Address lists will be sent out in the weekend of Nov 28-29. As soon as you receive your addresses, you can address your cards and get them in the mail.

**Make-up cards: December 26-January 10.
Participants must be prepared to send make-up cards if any of their cards go AWOL in the mailing process. Any cards not received by Christmas (Dec 25), the sender will be notified and expected to get a make-up card sent out immediately. All make-up cards must be received by January 10.

Participants will not be cleared from the swap unless all of their partners have received a card.

**Feedback:
Feedback will be left by me upon completion of the swap. Feedback will be based on communication, mailing within the deadline, following of the rules, participation in swap threads, etc. The secret swap word is candy. This is not the same one as the other holiday swaps, please make sure you're sending the right one.

**Swap Timelines:
now-Nov 6 - sign ups open
Nov 7 - sign ups closed
Nov 7-8 - group lists PMs to participants
Nov 9-27 - participants shop for or create cards
Nov 27 - photo check in deadline, cards must be complete and ready for mailing
Nov 28-29 - addresses will be sent to all participants that have checked in; participants address cards and get ready to mail
Dec 12 - mailing deadline, all cards mailed
Dec 26(ish) - senders of missing cards will be notified and will send out make-up cards
Jan 10 - deadline for make-up cards to be received

It's always fun to get holiday cards in the mail! This way you'll be guaranteed a lot of mail, and a lot of fun. :) And we all have the fun of sending out cards and getting to know each other a little better. :D

The only kicker for me is the international part. -__-; It's so hard to get to the PO during open hours.

Out of curiosity. What is a glitter bomb? Is it cards that have glitter on them... or is loose glitter inside a card that would fall out?

If you can get to the Post Office once, you can actually buy a page of international stamps, then you can mail them from your mailbox. :)

Glitter bombs are when people fill the card/envelope with loose glitter. It gets everywhere and caused quite a mess, which is also a health risk for those with pets or small kids.

I'm not sure for US, but Canada Post will still mail an international item if you use enough domestic stamps to cover the cost (sometimes need 2-3 stamps to equal the cost). That's why I send out the Countries with the initial partner lists, so everyone knows how many of each type of stamp they need - there's 3 weeks to work on cards before the check-in, and then another 2 weeks for mailing, so 5 full weeks to track down stamps.

This is true for the US as well. I believe an international stamp is around $1.20 for the US. So I usually just slap three regular forever stamps on and have never had an issue :)

I saved a spot waiting for this swap. I love cards. :heart: They'll look great on display with my mini tree and then I can glue them into my smashbook once the holidays are over so I won't lose them.

I'm debating whether to make or buy. I'm not the most advanced at card making, but I'm not completely hopeless either. On the other hand, I'm also a total shopaholic who enjoys shopping for cards. :lol: I'll likely depend on who we get and if I like the materials I have to work with.

Yup! We've limited it to 4 Arena-run official holiday swaps, so this would be your 3rd. The OT Ornament swap is not run by the Arena.

Also in the US 4 first class stamps = one international first class stamp.  You may want to just double check the values haven't changed, but I used to use 4 stamps to send lettters internationally when I lived in the US.

Just sent my PM! yaay! Cant wait, Might start planning my cards even now, I think im going to go handmade this year!

Here are my questions.


Favorite Color(s)? My favorite colors come in combinations, so ill list them here in order.
Light teal with white (this is actually the color scheme of my room, "teal ice/white")
Light purples, like lilac, on grey
oranges/reds/browns
green and browns

Favorite Animal(s)? Where do I even start.. So my most favorite animals are:
Llama, tigers, goats
but I also love anything woodlands animal themed with like foxes, bears, wolves, coyote, owls etc.

Then the easy stand by of cats/kittens is always a favorite! xD

Favorite MLP? Im not too big on MLP anymore, But I still do have a soft spot in my heart for old G1 Applejack and Gusty.

Other tidbits of information? Well lets see.
-Ill be opening all of these cards with my son Cameron, if you would like to add his name, he would love it (that is up to you)

-I love handmade things and reading notes. I dont expect everyone to go handmade or to write long notes xD but even if you just wrote a little factoid about your area, id love it!

-Which brings me to my next point! I LOVE learning things about different areas the world, even if its in the same country as me!

-I am not religious, and I don't know how to define my beliefs (the closest I can come is some sorta celtic nature/buddhist combo, but I don't strictly follow either of those practices either.) . but I do love learning about other people's beliefs, celebrations, and ideals. I think that these are important to knowing every person even if I don't necessarily understand them, I always find them fascinating!

-While I am grateful that glitter bombs are banned this year. I would not mind cards with a little bit of glitter on them, so don't let that hold you back when you're shopping for a card for me. x3

-Other things I love include:
How to train your dragon
Lilo and Stitch
Pokemon (grass/bug/ghost types)
Sailor moon (not crystal)
Video game refrences from things like mario, zelda, animal crossing, splatoon (maybe i should just say any toony nintendo title xD)
Retro/90s themes (that was "MY" time) rofl

Other tidbits of information?  I collect: MLP, vintage Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite.  I love Harry Potter, peace signs, candy themes items, fruit themed items (especially citrus slices), glittery things, anything British themed, shamrocks, hibiscus flowers, palm trees, rainbows, stickers, magnets and Disney, especially Christmas themed Disney stuff.

Non-religious Christmas. We mostly just get together as family, have a nice meal, and exchange gifts!

Favorite MLP? Tough one! I got into MLP with G4, and my fav of G4 is Rarity. But as a collector Im more into G1&G3 I love rainbow ponies, and Unicorns are my all time fav MLP breed.

Other tidbits of information? Hmm.. I also collect crystals&minerals, and I love Winnie the Pooh. Oh and I have a big beard Im really proud of, so beard theming is always appreciated :P
I might add more to this as time goes on, its a really open ended question..

Your winter holiday? My #1 winter holiday is the Solstice (its my namesake!) but I also celebrate secular Xmas, and New Years is great too!

Your winter holiday?
 
My family celebrates Christmas. Our holiday is not an extremely religious affair. I host Chrstmas Eve and we have pizza, play board games and then platters of crackers, cheese, deli meat, Gerkins pickels, diced cheers and veggies are put out, along with Baby Duck and Spoumonti wine. On Christmas day, it mainly consists of good food, carols, presents, watching movies / playing games and then going Boxing Day (think black Friday the day after Christmas) shopping on the 26th.

Yes, it's 3-4 times more expensive.  Also, they're more likely to get lost or just in general take so long that you need to replace a card.  It's not the normal thing that happens, I've done this swap for several years now and only ever had to replace one card, but when it happens it's almost always international.

I like a variety of colors, but two "groups" are teal/seafoam/grey and another are jewel tones.

I have a jack russell dog who I love so very much!

Baby Starflower and Baby Stripes always come to mind. I also love Sugar Apple, Chief, and the nurse ponies.

I am a nurse and a paramedic. My hobbies include baking, nail polish, and knitting. My husband and I just bought our first house this year!

I celebrate Christmas, but I am not offended in the slightest by other holidays! I actually like more of the winter aspect of Christmas (e.g. snowflakes rather than Santa).

-G1: All the Big Brothers! My first big brother whas 4-Speed/Trucker. I have all of them complete unless for Slugger who have his bandana missing.  :huh: For a female pony I think that Patch from Pony Tales or if we are looking from a more "common" one, I also like Applejack and Firefly.
-G3: Minty! She was my first pony ever!
-G4: Muffin / :muffin:  or how you like to call her, Big Mac and Applejack are the ones at the top of my list! I also really like Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, Lyra and Sunset Shimmer. My fav princess also is Luna.

Other tidbits of information?

-I love Pokemon and Nintendo in general! My fav characters there are Kirby, Yoshi and Toon Link  ^.^ (Sorry Link, you are not as cute as your counterpart) Also, my favorite pokemon is Slowpoke and their evolutions! I think Im kinda one in real life.

-Also Disney. My fav movie is The Lion King! :blush: I have a little collection if things from the movie right now.

-Aaand Im kinda a Homestuck fan! I was a big fan years ago, even doing cosplay of it  :lol:

-Im an traditional animation student.  :art:

-For me christams is in Summer, but we realy dont care. We still use the tipical Santa in winter clothes, eating candies and all of that.  :lol:

Your winter holiday? Christmas I think? Im not christian (But my mother is and I live whit her). I still have fun in holidays whit all the Santa Claus and gifts things. :satisfied: We always make a small family reunion at night and eat all togheter.

I love the traditional Christmas colours: green , red, gold and silver (not necesarily all together). I'm also fond of purple and turquoise.

Favorite Animal(s)?

Wild: manatees, tapirs, lions and other big cats.

Pets: dogs (especially dachshunds), cats, guinea pigs and rabbits

Favourite MLP?

My OCs, Hope and Destiny. G1 Applejack and Baby Applejack. Most of the G1 Babies, really. Sea Ponies and Baby Sea Ponies.

Other tidbits of information?

I'm also into Disney (especially, "The Lion King", "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame") and the Peanuts.

Your winter holiday?

I celebrate Christmas, but I'm very open and in fact looking forward to receiving cards from people who celebrate different winter holidays.

yay, I'm in!  I know exactly what cards I'm sending this year.  I saw some AMAZING ones the other day.

QUESTIONS!:

Favorite Color(s)?   Dark Purple, dark green and silver

Favorite MLP? G1 Twinkler and UK baby activity club, g3 kimono and g4 Twilight and Doctor Whooves. I also collect Apple Jacks from all gens.  To me AJ IS mlp.

Other tidbits of information?
I have a zoology degree and I even used to work at a zoo.  For a long while I had the awesome job of training the Red Pandas so they could be handled by people. 
I am married, and have 2 kids (a 9yo boy and a 6yo girl).
 For the past 4 years I have been travelling with my husband's job.  We have lived in Australia, China the USA and Germany, next year I will be living in the UK. 
I once held a baby Giant Panda. 
I have never experienced a white christmas.
I love Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Marvel Comics.

When I do have spare time, I like to colour (adulthood is great!), sew, and read fiction (science fiction and graphic novels being my favourite things!). I am a pony fanatic, but also a Monster High/Ever After Fan collector. I have a loud black cat named Misha, and I am SO excited to get to experience winter again this year! (I lived on the west coast of Canada for a few years, and it's all drizzle, all the time. No winter! SO SAD! Yes, I am a bit strange...)

Other info: I collect and custom sindy horses as well as mlp I have2 cats a called Bacardi ( black & white) and fury ( ginger & white one eye) I work in a sweet/ toy shop :)

Your winter hols: I am not religious so don't go to church but I love to put up a tree and decs lthe last few years I have put up the dream castle and decorate that as our rented house is quite small I hate turky so we have a different thing each year this year it's partridge if I can get some :)

Personally, I'm pretty much open to whatever everyone sends. Part of the allure of getting cards from people like this is that the variety of styles chosen should be much broader than just getting stuff from immediate family.

I love all kinds of different cards, that's probably the most fun part about this swap!

As for whats on the inside, I try to go with some type of genuine yet not overly specific holiday greeting of well wishes ect. Unless its a partner I perhaps know a bit better and can add a more personal message.

I got three cards today! They were just perfect and I couldn't pass them up. Hopefully the stores will get more cards later so I can find the other two. :)

I don't think there is any special regulation for stuff sent to the US, but you will probably have to pay more (our post office here would count that as a package not a letter if it's bulky). I've received food stuffs in packages internationally before, so I'm assuming it would be the same if you were to slip something in a card. Unless someone else knows different?

Vintage cards sound awesome! I think I will just write a simple greeting for the season in my cards. I don't think there are any rules for sending candy to Canada. I have made three of my five cards so far! I hope to be done by the end of the week!

All of my cards are made and ordered. I did digital art and then used Shutterfly. They'll send them to me and then I'll be able to ship them out when it's time. :) That was a long two days, but so worth it (and so fun! I love doing art when I know someone will see it.). They have a new type of card out that I was totally thrilled about and they're having one of their sales, so I couldn't resist. :D The wait is gonna be bad, though. :lol: I want to see how they turned out! :frolic:

I love hearing about all the different types of cards people will be sending! I haven't gotten mine yet, but I'm still debating between handmade or buying. There are a bunch of vintage stores I plan to go to by next week, so I am hoping to find something great there! If not, I've already gotten some ideas for handmade cards =)

I had planned to buy some vintage style cards that doubled as advent calendars (just with pictures not candy or anything).  But when I was at the store today I found some beautiful cars that basically feature photos of things in my neighbourhood.  That might sound boring, but my neighbourhood is fairytail picuture book beautiful.  I thought they were too perfect not to use.

For some reason Iv decided to water color individual cards this year instead of making prints. xD its ok though! I love water color.

I found some blank cards marked down to .50 that I was originally going to stick the paintings to.. but now i'm thinking i might like to just keep them flat and put my christmas greeting on the backside, and just use the envelopes to mail out the art.

what do you guys think? would that be ok, or is that too much like a postcard?

I've started working on some handmade cards to ensure I'll have a photo sample to turn in if they actually do take til November 30th (the latest date they can arrive, according to the site) to show up. Address lists are unfortunately delayed a little bit longer - we had quite a few late check-ins, and there are 3 members that still have not sent a photo or contacted me at all. I am giving them until the end of today, or they will be dropped from the swap as flakers - I can't hold up the swap any longer for those that are not committed. It's not fair to me or to those who are participating.

Aww, they're probably not as bad as you think they are. Artists are always very overcritical of their own work! I'm sure all of your recipients will love them. :D

Yay!  Man, the shipping within the EU is so fast.  America and Australia's domestic shipping is often slower than it took for that card to get to you from Germany.

Due to horrible luck, I got my three international cards out today! :) The horrible luck was that I had a flare up of a problem that caused me to leave work very early today. :( So, three of my five people should get their small packets in about 10-14 days.  I need to PM ArenaHunt and let her know that they have gone out...

I was able to mail my overseas cards. Not sure if they got fancy stamps the US postal workers at the post office I went to were working quickly on everything they stamped the cards and slotted them before I even whipped out a credit card to pay! LOL!!

As I said, the pictures suck. :( I could've done better if I was timely and given myself and the project enough time.  I didn't.

Either way, each one is hand painted, so no two are exactly the same (though I tried!) :)

I got a card from ladybastilla that has an ADORABLE ornament in it! I just love it! I got another from Ringwraith10 with a sweet puppy which I totally love. <3

I mailed my cards yesterday. I'm so bummed because the postal worker is the GROUCHIEST postal worker I've ever met. I absolutely hate dealing with him, he's just so cranky. I of course sent some international cards and I know this year there is a beautiful wreath stamp for international letters, and they were completely out =(

Glad you like your ornament, BabySunnyBunch. The design for that one was a matter of narrowing options down. I went and looked up all the different nurse ponies and then chose the symbol I felt most sure I could draw. :lol: All the cards designs were done in MS Paint with a mouse, so the process was interesting. Then they got cropped to fit the shape of the ornament when I uploaded them to Shutterfly.

I came home to find THREE cards! The postman had left them outside by the front door, so I was quite glad I got home before it started raining.

Beldarna - The cat and dog motive is so cute.

BethMcBeth - What a beautiful ornament, featuring two of my all-time favourite ponies!

Arianna - The stickers are adorable, the candy cane totally yummy (cinnamon is one of my favourite Christmas flavours), the painting is gorgeous, and all the woodland animals are so sweet.

Yay! I'm so glad that you like your ornament. I wasn't sure whether it was g3 or g4 Rarity you like, but I was more confident I could draw g4 even though the body I used to make my ornaments looks more like a g3 pony. :)

I received a lovely packet from Arianna with a gorgeous card of woodland animals, a huge candy cane, MLP stickers (that I didn't already have! awesome!) and a lovely painting. (Red haired, white bodied unicorn. I'm going to guess Moondancer, but that is just a guess since the pose doesn't include symbols. If I'm wrong let me know. :lol: Either way it'll get put up with my Princess Serena painting the next time my bf visits.) Thanks very much!

I have received all 5 of my GORGEOUS cards!!

I already wrote about Ringwraith10 and ladybastilla (who sent the adorable puppy card and the pretty, glittery card with the pony ornament!).

Nessy_86 sent the Holly Jolly card, which is so cute and vintage-y. I actually loved it so much that before even receiving your card, I had bought these cards (they came in a variety pack) to send out to my family this year! We clearly have very good taste =)

SnorkMaiden sent the Season's Greetings card which is so lovely! I love the snowy village and it's just such a cozy feeling scene.

Finally, I received Xeevee's card, which is the very neat Rathaus in Germany. Xeevee, this card is so amazing. I love how personal it is, I made a point to show it to my family because it is just so cool!

Awwww... I glad you like it.  Rathaus actually means town hall in German.  So it's one of many Rathaus.  That one is the Hannover Rathaus.

OMG, I love that stamp! I don't actively collect stamps anymore, but I might have to try to get that one, anyway.  :shocked:

I mean I am not like hard-core stamp collector but I love getting stamps from overseas and seeing the different postal cancellations. Its fun and so neat to see different things!! ;) They go on my wall in my studio for inspiration.

Iv got a cold and its made me have the strangest half awake daydream.. i was SURE that my son handed me 3 cards when he came home xD and i asked him later "where did you put those 3 cards?" and hes just like "I never said there were any, all we had in the mail was a single sale flyer." rofl xD

haha thanks! there's always tomorrow that I might get more cards, and hopefully some of mine start appearing in some mailboxes! In the meantime I have some nice tea and vicks kleenex to keep me feeling better haha.

Today is a good mail day! ^-^ on top of a big box of Lush bath stuff i ordered for christmas, was a card from aintnobuffalo!

I looooved reading all the stuff about your home!

Reaaaallly hoping some of my cards start showing up. I had to hand make the envelopes but they were still a bit smaller than that bigger standard christmas card size so, im hoping that everything is alright with them. :c

What pretty cards!

Today I got a card from my estranged father (we sometimes exchange cards but we rarely communicate). It had a picture of a cemetery on the front.  :| Weird, but it actually is a pretty picture... I'm just glad I have all of my cards from the Arena swap, because otherwise that would have been the only card I got this year!  :blink:

Yaaay! All my cards have reached their destination! :joy:

I'm still waiting for my last card. I hope it arrives today as we celebrate tomorrow and then I'll not be getting any mail until the 28th. *keeps fingers crossed*

So glad to see all the cards arriving. Can't believe all the holiday madness is about to start. :frolic: One last day to get ready, then Christmas with my family, and then shopping and Cheese Capaletti with my parents for lunch at East Side Marios on Saturday. Going to be so much fun! :)

I recive two of my cards! : D One was from aintnobuffalo with a lovely dachshund runing in the snow! I love it!

The other one have a cute drawing of two ponies and I think it was from Aflame! Sadly I dont understand the signature at all  >_< But ArenaHunt said sure is from them!

Thanks again you two! I will take some photos later! Im not in home now  :blush:

Yeah same.  I think at least 3 have, maybe 4.  Maybe all of them.  No idea any more.

It's unfortunate that not everyone has participated in the swap thread, or said thank you to their partners. Most card have been received (9 left to go, most of those are sending from/going to the same person who said their postal system is quite backed-up). If anyone wants to know for sure how their cards are doing, PM me at the ArenaHunt account and I'll let you know.
