Twilight, Taffy, Crumpet.  Quite possibly Satin n Lace?

Angel isn't that rare. Just htf in decent condition.

The second set are all harder to find than the first set, but I'd say Angel and Crumpet are the two most sought after.  :)

In addition to five new ponies, the 2nd set also included Hippity Hop (who was an "add-on" in the first set).  You can tell the two versions apart because the 2nd set of So-Softs have much shorter, less fluffy fur.

Even though none of the 1st set of So-Softs exactly rare, some individuals can be hard to locate simply because there were so many ponies in that set.  Like I never see Twist a lot.

Crumpet is hard to get in nice condition. I can see her being popular. I think the second set is harder to come by with decent flocking.

I think it is generally difficult to find any SS in perfect so soft condition-

But don't confuse rareness with popularity-  some ponies are just more popular and highly sought than others (like Angel, and Mimic is a good example- neither are RARE but both are highly sought and people want them)

I feel like the 2nd set is actually easier to find with good flocking.  Yeah, they get the flocking rubs on lips, ears, and edges of hooves, like the 1st set . . . But unlike the first set they don't get that "smooshed down dirty foggy flocking" thing going on, because their flocking is so short to begin with.  Kind of like Sylvanian Families flocking.

It also cleans WAY more easily than 1st set flocking.

I agree that Twilight, Bangles, Taffy, Crumpet, and to a lesser extent Hippity Hop are all rarer and/or more sought after.

I feel like the mid-season replacements in the first wave (e.g. Twist, Scrumptious) are often more desirable -- although not rarer -- than the SS versions of previous ponies (e.g. Gusty, Posey) but that might be personal bias coloring my opinion.

The SS ponies are confusing...I think we're kind of talking about set 1, set 1.5 and set 2 (or 1, 2, 3).


So roughly set #1:

set 1.5 is where six of the above were swapped out and replaced with the following six:

Set 2 is these:

So none of them were sold in my country so I'm basing this on what I've seen and heard over the last 2 decades online but it seems to me that...

Most of set 1 are not super htf although some have issues like fading.
Some of set 2 are middling in rarity but not necessarily super-hard to find.
Set 3 - Bangles seems most common of that set to me, plus Hippety Hop. Crumpet seems the hardest to find. Taffy in good condition I have found next to impossible (although some folk here have nice ones).

Overall though a mint so soft pony is probably going to get a lot of attention.

I would say Cupcake is quite common?

As someone also mentioned, there is So Soft Satin & Lace as well. She was a mail order so is harder to find because of that.

There’s also SS Best Wishes from the Birthday Party set. 😀 She seems to be pretty common.  Is SS Twilight getting harder to find? I don’t see as many for sale lately as there were a few years ago.

When I was really into collecting online a few years ago (over a decade) it was murder trying to find SS Twilight for a decent price. Not sure how but I ended up with a beautiful one, perhaps I've just blocked out how much I paid for her  :lol:

She's still in storage at the moment (hopefully only a few more weeks) but after that, i've not yet figured out how I can post pictures on this forum yet LOL. Once I get her out of the box she will likely end up on my facebook lol

They come up quite often in lots; that is how I have obtained most of mine. Only Cupcake and Scrumptious were purchased separately. I hardly ever see Taffy or Bangles on eBay at the moment, Twilight has been up quite regularly but she is popular and so fetches a price which reflects that. The same with Angel. Lots with those ponies also tend to go for more as people are looking for them. And even if they are in poor condition people still want them as they look gorgeous deflocked as well.

Skippety Doo is gorgeous! I love light colored ponies with dark hair, or both dark but contrasting. I hope to get a rearing pony someday, most likely Magic Star as she's common.

Pretty much as everyone has already said.  Angel, Crumpet, Twilight, Taffy and Satin 'n Lace top the HTF list in my experience.  Those 5 with mint flocking have recently been selling for outrageous amounts on eBay, like $50-$90 USD.  I had a terrible time finding the MO SS Satin 'n Lace, and ended up paying too much for her out of desperation.  Also had a really hard time finding Wind Whistler with both good flocking AND unfaded hair.  Took me longer than I expected to find her!

I do love the pictures of those lovely SS ponies-  I love the thought of an entire set of super clean fluffy so softs...

It would be great if that retro-pony company making the re-makes considered them!  I can get the main flat footed ponies in great condition pretty easily-  but a perfect so soft? Now THAT is hard.

The picture makes my Twilight"s hair look a lot darker than it really was when I got her but it was still pretty pink. It's faded a little now even though I've been really careful with her.

A few years ago I bought a large lot of ponies where half weren't pictured.  And when I saw this purple one, I had no idea who she was.  She has lipstick, yellow glue and an age spot, but still pretty and kind of sparkly.  None of my So Softs are minty.

Here are my 3 SS ponies! I didn't like the idea of delicate flocking at first but I "settled" for a flocked Paradise, and I'm so happy I did.

Paradise and Scrumptious are my mintiest ponies. I'm not usually a picky collector, but I had to have perfect flocking. It's only the slightest bit worn on the tippy top of the ears but nowhere near gone. Hooves, perfect. Mouth, perfect. Wings, perfect. Even Heartthrob has rather stunning flocking for a yard sale find! The tips of her ears have a bit of wear but the rest is in pretty good shape, stains aside.

Heartthrob is my good luck pony because she (and a baby sea pony) were the first g1s I saw in the wild for years.

P.S. I'm glad I don't have any of the more expensive or rare SS ponies on my immediate wishlist. Scrumptious and/or Paradise was $25 and that's my limit. (Meanwhile Heartthrob was $2.)

So many beautiful ponies, thank you everyone for sharing! While I did not like So Softs at first, I got Truly in a lot and then I felt her... they do feel just so wonderful. So now I have a slowly growing herd: Truly, Wind Whistler (hair is mostly white though), Scrumptious, Lofty and Cupcake. I also bought Best Wishes and Paradise. But Best Wishes arrived with huge chunks missing from her flocking, like they had been gouged out, and Paradise's flocking had gone all hard and brown and was horrible to the touch. They have both been deflocked and look better for it, though Paradise is cream rather than white and has several age spots.

I want to see your ponies, NightgliderSA! I wanted Lofty as a kid, until I realized she was yellow instead of white. Windy and SS Magic Star are close enough to white for my liking (especially since my yellowed ponies are almost as yellow) I think Lofty would be close enough to satisfy me. I really just want more SS and there are only so many white ones.

Love the SS ponies, and love seeing everyone sharing pictures of their fuzzy babies!  As a child I just never had any, I don't know why not.  When I started re-collecting as an adult all the So Softs I encountered were in terrible condition and I was reluctant to collect them because they seemed too easy to damage.  But then I found a mint Bouncy and I totally fell in love with that lovely SS nuzzily fluffiness!  Have been on a mission to collect the set ever since.  I still get excited when I find a minty one  :)
