Lets say you could pick any ponies from any gen to be the 'mane 6' for the new generation of mlp; who would you choose?
Im very interested in yalls responses :)

I'd really prefer for them to make brand new characters. I don't want G5 to be the rehash gen. :(
If we must, maybe some lesser known characters to make it feel new.

Very much agree with this! Unfortunately Hasbro has clearly decided to keep reusing names from past gens. I mean, even of the mane 6 Twilight Sparkle is the only truly “new” name right? I hope if nothing else they do like they did with G4 and recycle the name, but make an entirely new character! I actually started on some reference art for my own mane 6 for G5 but never got around to finishing. :P
So far my list had:
Rainbow Dash
Pinkie Pie
(We know Hasbro will probably use these two names forever and always anyway, right?)
Minty
If I was going to choose a the last 3 recycled names for new characters maybe I’d go with
Wind Whistler
Light Heart
Applejack
It’d be nice to see all the gens get some love! I tried to pick the names Hasbro might pick. I know they tend to go for the more unique names that aren’t likely to be shared with another character (or maybe they’re easier to copyright idk). Since Applejack has been in almost every other gen it felt mean to leave her name out! :lol:

As the others had said, I'd just make entirely new ponies. Maybe bring back some older ponies in some form, like I'd love Minty again, but they wouldn't be main cast. But really if G5 was up to me I wouldn't have a "main cast" at all.

I want new ponies period. Hasbro overdoes a core group to the point of obsessive insanity. They didn't learn that it killed G3, they didn't learn that 3.5 was dead in the water because of it and they still haven't learned that its killing g4.

Oh, I'd say this is a bit hard. If not entirely new ponies, I'd have to say
G3/G4 Minty or G2 Ivy
G1 Lickety Split
G4 Diamond Rose
G2 Precious
G2 Moonshadow
G3 Anchors away
I tried to add variety in regards to colour because there'd only be pink, blue and white ponies.

I would want no “core” cast at all! My ideal MLP would have new characters introduced in every episode, and plots that spotlighted different ponies and friend groups. G1 handled it best, from a toyline perspective.
It may sound a bit... shallow?... but I just want MLP to be a toyline first, and a cartoon second. I personally loved the half-hour toy commercials of the 80s. XD

Same! I may have gotten into MLP via FiM, but for a while now I've cared more about how the toyline is than I do the cartoon. Like I still love FiM and watching all MLP cartoons is fun, but collecting the toys is the most important thing for me, so I want the toyline to take priority over the cartoon, and feel it should given My Little Pony is first and foremost, a toyline. It had always been, but then it feels like that changed with G4. :huh:

I'd get two ponies from each gen (1-3), have the basic colors covered and make sure each one has a unique magical talent so not one race is superior to the others when it comes to magic.
We had similar threads like this one before.
What about making G2 Trixiebelle our protagonist? She is a princess but she is fun and a prankster. I was just thinking about her because she is on my wishlist in her entire harlequin garb :lol:

ok im going to try something different them my usually favourite pick from g1
g1 bubbles but maybe a colour change to pastel pink body aqua hair.....maybe :D
g1 minty, pastel minty green body and hair
unicorn; g2 princess silver swirl, white on white/silver
salty, why not a boy, sea theme, would be tex but the cowboy theme has been done.

I want a whole new cast!! Who cares what the cartoon does (if we even have to have one), I just want new toys to collect :P
But I do like making up core casts, those are always fun, so.. hm.. let's see...

Just off the top of my head. :B I was trying to use 2 from g1-3 and have at least a bit of variety in colours. Nearly included Applejack, but I left her out because of G4 AJ... Tabby was the next G1 to come to mind, so I went with her. Besides, we always need a pink pony. :P
(Although now I notice that she's the only non-earth in this group, and I usually try to keep the races balanced.. dang it. :silly:)
