Title: Designer Pin Unicorns
Post by: Foxtale on March 16, 2018, 06:40:30 AM
I have been developing designer my little pony themed pins for some time now (its been a few years) and I am finally ready for the production and want to see how many of each pin I should make for my first set.

The pins will be high quality hard enamel like Disney pins with a rubber pin backing.

I am going to be selling them at the My Little Pony Fair in Florida (and the Canadian Collector’s Extravaganza in August).

Do you collect Designer Pony pins? Do you collect Disney pins? Would you buy them all? Would you buy one? Are you attending the fair? Please discuss.

Thanks!

If they were there on a table in front of me I would be very tempted to buy a lot of the G1 pony pins people make and I would probably choose Gypsy as she's a childhood pony. I might be tempted by Gusty but have never been quite as attached to her. I wouldn't buy Reverse Gusty, personally. I think she's a niche interest, so maybe a limited run? Seems fitting? :)

Because of cost of shipping I'd be less tempted to buy them online, though. It might not be an issue within the US mind you. I have seen a lot of pins (MLP) I would like to buy, including the TAF ones from a previous fair (?) but the cost of shipping a tiny item these days is just nuts.

I imagine they'd be a hit at the Fair though :D

Thank you for the feedback Taffeta!

Yeah Reverse Gusty is definitely going to be a limited run. I think I am most curious about interest in Gypsy vs Gusty. Like my run is going to be 10% reverse but i cant decide if I want to do 45% each the rest or do like 60% 30%, etc. :D

Hmmm... maybe I should get the funds together to come to the UK Ponycon and sell them there too... I wonder if people would be down for that? :D

I would pick Gypsy since she is not that common :)

As for the UK ponycon, yes I am positive that people want them if you come. Last year a lady from Canada who was selling sort of the same pins was there too and I noticed people liked them.

None of those, since I don't like those ponies at all...

Alll of themm
I'd bet Gusty would sell the best, as she's a childhood pony for more than Gypsy.

Seeing the poll really helps me figure out the percentages of which ones to order. :D

Thanks for the feedback so far!

I suspect if you DID go to ponycon (would the costs even out? Would you manage to go to ponycon and not spend all your profits on other pony stuff? XD) you might find a greater market for Gypsy than maybe in the US because as much as I know US people like her, a lot of people here grew up with her. I know a few people who are Gypsy mad xD.

Gusty is also really popular here though, so it's a hard call.

I always like to encourage people from overseas to come to Ponycon though, to join our haze of pony madness. It's not as big as the Fair, true enough, but it's still fun :)

I think Archer was also selling some pony related materials at con last year. Keyrings and bracelets more than pins, but maybe worth asking her what kind of market it was for her stuff and how much she sold? Might give you a benchmark for other small custom stuff?

I know a lot of people sell craft stuff at ponycon, so it would not be out of place.

I have always wanted to get into collecting pins, unfortunately living in Australia makes international shipping for small and light items quite expensive, and most of the special pins I desire are in the northern hemisphere somewhere.... *shakes fist* I would ADORE pony pins! I picked Gusty and Reverse Gusty, not that it matters much as I won't be able to catch any of yours, but I would love to see photos and I'm sure they would go over splendidly at the fair :accomplished:

This. I'd buy Gusty, because I love her, but if they were both in front of me, I'd buy them both!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I don't have image of the pins yet but I did make mockups. Don't judge them too hard by the mockups. :D

 >_<  >_< >_<

I can't get the images to embed. Does anyone know if direct dropbox links work?

I am going to upload them to my new Instagram Perfectly Pins and can post the link soon. https://www.instagram.com/perfectlypins/

yes for Gusty, but like Taffeta said, if they are in front of me yes, and like what prancingstag said being in a non northern hemisphere country makes it hard. but i would buy one if i could ;)

Yes to Gusty and if these could be available on etsy or ebay I'd be interested  ;)

I don't know if I can make it to the fair. Can we order your pins online? D: Also I have been searching far and wide for a pin of Parasol so if you're ever open to suggestions, that's my vote!

Gypsy and Gusty! Personally, I'd have interest in buying them online somewhere. I won't be able to make it to the fair, even though it's not even 2 hours away from me.  :bawl:

Thanks for voting everyone!

I will be selling the first batch of pins at the fair. If it goes over well I think I will sell it to those interested through an online mailing list (invoicing through paypal) or maybe even etsy depending on fees. I have much plans for more designs to come. :D

I am a huge sucker for pony pins, but the truth is that these are not my favorite ponies (I'm firmly in the pastel/girly camp ) If I liked the style and quality, I would pick up Gusty

Gusty was my childhood favorite, so I'd definitely pick Gusty if I could only have 1. Realistically I'd probably get both Gusty & Gypsy, but not reverse Gusty.

I like quality enamel pins... A LOT. I already collect a lot of things, so I have to sort of keep it under control, but if I go on a trip I will usually pick up a pin as a souvenir before I'd buy a mug, keychain, magnet, etc.

Will not go to the fair, but if Gypsy is made, my interrest is there for an internet sale
