Title: G3 Boys
Post by: Leave a Whisper on October 12, 2017, 12:25:16 PM
For whatever bizarre reason, Hasbro decided to nix tradition witj boy ponies in G3. What do you think they'd have looked like? Would they have their own moulds like G1 and G4? Or would they be on the same ones like G2? Would we have had mixed gender and all boy sets? Would we have gotten pegasus, unicorns and breezies? Or just all earth ponies?

I think they would have used the same molds as they did for the female ponies.

Due to the absence of males in G3, I'd decided that lot of the ponies in my herd would be male: Wishawhirl, Autumn Skye, Bubblecup, Shenanigans, Snowflake, Lickety Split, Wondermint, Sweetsong, Lavender Cloud, Scooter Sprite, Round 'n Round, Sunshower, Apple Spice, Sweet Summertime, Denim Blue, and a couple others.

A lot of people preferred that all the Unicorns in G3 were male.

I can't unsee Brights Brightly as a boy since Kimono's Townhouse!

That said though, ponies just being female was a given for us as kids. We did turn a few into boys for the sake of the nuclear family, but none of them were ever G3's. We still had a lot of single mothers in our games though haha!

Oh I remember that :) Didn't the creator of Kimono's Townhouse go with that as well? I remember there being male unicorn(s) in the comics :)

But yeah, I too think they'd have probably gone with the same molds tbh. Maybe less lashes on the eyes or something.

ETA - Stormness we said the same thing haha

I would have hoped that the boy ponies would have had their own molds, but that is purely personal preference. I like boys to look like boys and not blue versions of girls. And yes, it would have been awesome to have had boy pegasi and unicorns too.

Oh no, that made me think of the old Futurama episode with the "human horn"

Kimono's Townhouse was great!  Not all the unicorns in it were male, but Brights Brightly was.  Which I do have a hard time unseeing, lol.  Man, that was a great comic.

I think they would have been in the same poses as the female ponies, like G2.  A lot of the G3 poses looked very androgynous or masculine IMO, even moreso than the average pony line.  Like the 1st Rainbow Dash pose, the Butter Pop pose, and the 1st Sparkleworks pose all look pretty buff to me.

Kimono's Townhouse?

I think they'd have the same body types for boys. I think we'd get mixed group and all boy sets. I think we'd have unis and pegs, but not breezies or merponies. Its a shame that the lesser made pony species never get boys at all.

oh man, what an interesting topic! i would have loved to see what they would do as far as body molds, considering we'd had g1 boys get unique molds, and g2 boys getting the same ones. i personally love the Clydesdale molds of g1, but i like that they kept g2 kind of gender ambiguous! :devious: growing up as a gay and transgender child, the gender of my toys changed all the time, so i particularly enjoyed g2 reusing the molds (even though in retrospect, it was a little lazy).

i do love the 'clydesdale'/fuzzy hooves from previous gens, i think it's super cute! i would love to hear more and have had a few prince ponies and seaponies as well! i have a lot of love for g3, and i always wondered if i had just missed out on the boy ponies, but now i know they never made any, so i feel a little better! :P

and some say that star catcher is a boy because of a typographical error in one (or more?) of the books, and as a kid who had that book, i always just assumed he was a he! :whoa: a lot of the g3 ponies' genders could be a total tossup, like star catcher's coloring is that of the transgender flag! wonder what that could mean, hehe! :P i'd love to see some representation for ponies that don't adhere to a certain gender (like how legendary pokemon are typically genderless); i think that would be super neat!

Imagining G3s with feathered hooves and hyperventilating a little :lovey:

i agree with a lot of this! i also think it would have been neat if there were boy ponies of both different mold And same molds. like some boy ponies were clydsdales, and some werent. I guess Sports Time is a good example, but i wish there were more. I also fully believe that kids playing with them should be able to pick the gender of their toys no matter what they look like lmao!

I wouldn't mind G3s with feathered hooves, but I'd want both male and females with feathered hooves.  I think making feathered hooves a gender-specific trait was one of Hasbro's stranger ideas.
