Title: Silly Birthday Brag
Post by: ThePoneZone on July 06, 2018, 04:41:05 PM
Hi everyone~

I got some ponies for my (very late) birthday. They're late because- ..well, you'll see.

These ponies are pretty common, so to most of you guys it might not seem brag-worthy, but when your only source of ponies tends to be overpriced e-bay auctions, every pony you get feels like a Grail. Heh.

Here's a little story about the ponies, it's kinda long so I'll put it in spoilers.

Spoiler
This is the story of how Gusty and friends went on an all expenses paid trip around the US.

So, my friend Mewthemew has gotten into the habit of combing through her pony collection every year and picking out a few ponies to send over here for my birthday. She buys a lot of bait lots that have seemingly less-than-baity ponies in it. Last year everything went smoothly, but this year? Hoo boy.

First week went rather slowly.  The ponies went to the Chicago IL centre on May 7th. Around week 2 of no updates, they went to Grand Rapids for a few days, only to arrive BACK at Chicago IL... SEVENTEEN DAYS LATER!!

Another 4 days later, again Chicago IL rears its ugly head. By this point, Mew and I developed a joke that the Mewtwo plush she shoved in there as a bonus had a gambling addiction and was constantly coming back to Chicago to go to the casinos, much to the ponies' dismay. Any time it wasn't Chicago, he was visiting souvenir shops.

3 days later it arrives at Sioux Falls. "Okay," I thought, "better than Chicago again, right?"
The next day, it shows that the package arrived and departed the Des Moines distribution centre. On both the 13th and the 15th of June. "This is ridiculous, its been a month! What are they doing, taking my ponies on a statewide tour?" Turns out that's not as far fetched as you'd think, as the next update was, once again, Grand rapids on the 16th.

On the 17th, the package had somehow made its way to the local Gaylord Hotel. "What!? Mewtwo, you're supposed to be coming to Canada, not staying at a hotel in Michigan!" we joked.

A week or so after that, Mewthemew messages me on Discord and tells me this gem: "The package was returned to me with a slip of paper saying they couldn't read/find the address written on the card." So, she put the package into a bigger box, got a mailing form alongside writing my address bigger and in sharpie this time, and re-mailed it. It got here with no issues the 2nd time.

That's the story of how my ponies spent around 50 days touring around the US.

The ponies now consider "Chicago" a swear word and have it out for Mewtwo and his gambling problem.

And now, the ponies that I recieved, again, spoilers because the images are kinda biiiig.

Spoiler
First is High Flyer. This one's definitely the baitiest out of them all, but oh well, she's still pretty cute. :3

Second is Juniper Jade. She was in a G3 bait lot Mew purchased. Juniper's not really that bad. She has a small stain on her right hoof and a scrape on her left back knee, but I definitely wouldn't consider her bait.

Next is Gusty ♥

This is one I've been looking for for a while, she was one of my childhood ponies and I just love her hair colours. Her only major flaws are a slightly bent back leg and the spot on her shoulder, but thankfully her hair covers it up.

The new girls settling into their new home. I'm planning to get a cabinet eventually. >_>;
(bonus orange blindbag filly in the background, which was also in the birthday package)

Bonus: Mewtwo, being punished in the Drawer of Monsters.

And that's basically my not-so-bragworthy brag. I wouldn't have posted this at all if the story behind them getting here wasn't so silly, but here we are.

Lol. This is funny. I know how annoying mail getting lost can be. One time when the family took a trip to Australia, we decided to ship our souvenirs and just stuff we couldn’t fit in the suitcases back to Canada. Things is, they got lost. Approximately one month later, we got them back. Still wondering where a pair of my pants went though...
They look really happy settling into their new abode.

Love the story of your ponies' journey, and I'm glad they got to you in the end! I once had a couple of ponies take six months to get to me from America - goodness only knows what sort of adventures they had! We had a story at one point about how they got out of the parcel and lived wild in Kentucky (the last place they got scanned), surviving on food dropped by Global Shipping employees. At least neither of them had a gambling addiction :D

JUST your pants? Wow that's kind of a random item to go missing, but I'm glad everything else made it to you in one piece!

Oof! Six months, that makes my one and a half seem so short in comparison, hah! I'd have given up at that point. Still, I'm happy your ponies didn't get lost in the mail, things could definitely always be worse, hmm?

Wow, what a great story. Packages sometimes have such a weird journey! I had one that jumped back and forth between Virginia and Tennessee like 3 times before continuing onto its destination. Maybe Mewtwo did have a gambling problem, or maybe it was because Chicago was close to a large body of water where he could build his fortress of clones.

High Flyer looks pretty lovely after cleanup!

Mail carriers seem to love playing tennis with packages, huh?
Oh my, I never thought about the water.. planning world domination again, eh, Mewtwo? That's a bad kitty!

Yeah, she was pretty messy, I'm just glad all those black marks came off relatively easily.

Congrats! I'm sure they were well worth the wait! High Flyer looks adorable with a bob

Thanks! I think she looks cute with it, too, It actually really suits her, hehe.
Gusty was definitely worth the wait, since she's one of my Childhood ponies that I was looking to regain.

OMG the dreaded Chicago sorting centre! Ironically I have had more than one package sent to me which has got caught up there or has been sent...to CANADA...instead of to the UK because apparently the people there don't know that other places than Canada have postal codes and that UK means UK not Canada.

So yeah, no surprises your package got messed around. They're really bad ><

BUT so glad they did arrive with you eventually! And congrats on your new additions. I agree that Gusty and Juniper in particular look very nice, and High Flyer now looks loved at least :) Maybe you can make her some new wings??

Yeah, I'm glad whoever cut her hair didn't cut it too short, since it actually kinda looks nice on her. :)

Ugh. Whenever I see "CHICAGO, IL" on packages coming from the US I wince, because I know it's going to get stuck there for ages. At least they didn't get damaged and discarded like the DVD set I bought off Amazon recently. Canada Post doin' a great job up here. Thankfully Amazon was good about replacing the lost order free of charge, but holy yikes I'm glad USPS didn't lose/damage the ponies. D:

I'd be up to buy some replacement wings for High Flyer eventually, I don't trust myself with making them. > .>;

Congrats on snagging some new ponies.  That is an insane story about how they got to you!  Talk about the postal service making more work for themselves.  So glad your parcel arrived safely in the end.  :D

Yeah, they really dragged it out longer than necessary. Oh, USPS, you guys are silly. Me too, though. I was afraid Gusty got lost! She was basically the meat of the package for me. Haha!

Oh man, if it weren't for her I'd basically only have that Pony Bride and Wysteria. She's a keeper, eh? :P
you know i'm joking, mew

Small ponies pull of bobs quite well in my opinion! ^^

Ohhhh my what a voyage!  Glad they are safe with you at last!

And they're glad to be out of Chicago. :silly:
