Title: Dollyhair help please!
Post by: freezestime on April 09, 2019, 11:40:00 PM
Hi friends!

I've found a baity Celestia in a charity shop recently, so I'm thinking of making her into a show accurate custom, but I'd like some help please!

Edit: NightgliderSA recommended a pic so I added one.

Edit edit: There's 4 colours. Light green, light-ish blue, purple-ish pink and teal.

I'm thinking Spring Meadow, Lucky Clover or Unlucky Clover, Mulberry Crush or Raspberry Sorbet and Mermaid?

Thank you.

A photo of which Celestia would probably help. I am not so good with the G4's I'm afraid as I collect mainly G1, sorry! If her plastic is soft then making another row of plugs is not a problem, you just use a large needle to poke the new holes in where you need them. Pen and permanent marker normally need to be sunfaded out, but I am unsure as to how G4 react to sunfading as I have never personally done it. Hopefully one of the G4 collectors will get on to this and give you a bit more information: good luck!

Oh whoops, that's a good idea. Thank you.

Now I looked up the colours according to your picture

blue: blueberry muffin or waternixie for a more vibrant look.

green: unlucky clover

purple: hyacint

pink: raspberry sorbet/ raspberry rose

Though I like the colours you picked out too, I hope it helps :)

I think the colors you chose or kingluke's are both good options. I would go with unlucky clover over lucky clover, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options listed.

If you are talking about the brushable sized Celestia, you can remove the wings. That's how you get at the tail, actually. You can use an xacto knife to carefully cut around the seams. I would recommend against it since its a lot of work for a little reward, so I would paint them while they are still attached to her and glue in the tail.

I wonder what the black marks could be if they don't come off with nail polish remover... Did you use a high grade remover or leave it on for a couple of seconds? If so, I wonder if it must be some sort of dye like from a marker rather than a surface stain. You could potentially lightly sand the stain to see if it goes deep. If you end up needing to paint over the mark, I would recommend doing thin layers of pain to minimize brush strokes. You could sand your paint a little with very find grade sandpaper; I've done this effectively at times, but the paint comes off very easy, even with very fine grade paper.

To make more plugs, use a push pin or a tack to push through the plastic where you want a new plug. It's fairly simple and effective.

Let us know how it goes!

Yeah, she's from the Crystal Empire:Crystal Princesses combined with Pinkie Pie. I did research previously where they said remove the neck plug, but would that be for regular ponies and not princesses?

I just used my like 4 year old nail polish remover, I don't think it'd be too strong. I didn't notice any improvements. I didn't leave it on but I did go over numerous times, with like half a second in between. Might have to paint the body and avoid her cutie mark.  I'll also get some hobby sand paper and fine sand paper, and in that case making extra plugs should be easy. Thank you.
