I'll confess. I'm not a fan of Adult Seaponies.

Weird poses and poisonous smells. Also insipid, wishy washy colour schemes and symbols that are basically variations of the same inedible looking thing in a bowl or cone.
Not a fan.

I don't like seaponies either, or teeny tiny ponies.
I hate beddy bye eye ponies most of all. They're probably the only set that I have trouble understanding why people like them. With other sets I don't like, or sets that I'm indifferent to (flutter ponies and dream beauties) I can at least see why other people like them, but I don't really understand the appeal of those horrifying beddy bye eyes.

Twice As Fancy ponies UNLESS they were done well, like DB and Sugarberry. Merriweather and Love Melody come to mind as TAFs that don’t look right.
Also, Brush n Grows. They’re sooo prone to haircuts, not to mention you have to break the neck just to make her tail short, or having to pull hard on a stubborn tail, risking the mechanism.
Oh, and Drink n Wets. Don’t get me wrong, baby ponies are cute ponies, but not when they pee all over the floor! :mad:

I am not very fond of So Soft ponies, because while I get that kids may like things that are soft and fluffy, to me they look just plain weird, especially around eyes, like they were covered in suds or something, plut almost every SS pony will have some wear to the fleece by now, which I think looks kind of gross. I also think that Beddy-Bye baby ponies look kind of creepy, once again kids probably would find it cute but I prefer ponies with regular eyes. And even though I LOVE the design of Big Brother ponies, I have a really mixed feelings towards year five BBs because I don't like the animated episode they appeared in.

I like Buttons, but Tootsie is one of those that is hit and miss depending on what shade of green she is/has become over time. If you get a good one then she's really beautiful. If not, she looks like a mushy pea. :/

I don't really like the beddy bye eyes, or ponies with gimmicks, like the baby hair colour change baby sea ponies, one pictures their hair just looks so ratty to me.
I just got my taf buttons today and i love her, she doesn't seem popular tho.

Well, "hate" is a strong word, but the sets I'm not a fan of are...
BBEs (ick!! ICK!!!)
Drink 'n' Wets (the ponies themselves can be cute but I HATE anything with this gimmick, it's so gross -_- plus their big :O mouths just look silly)
First Tooths (don't like the tooth.... although I made an exception for the Dutch Cat pony. :p But she's the only FT allowed in my herd!)
Soft Sleepy Newborns (too big... and sleep eyes.. x_X I don't like any of the "baby doll" ponies from any of the gens, they creep me out. I don't even like *human* baby dolls, let alone pony ones!)
I'm neutral to the Magic Message Ponies as a set/gimmick/etc, but none of them do it for me
Sparkle ponies/Glow 'n' Shows/etc (don't like translucent stuff in general usually, and the glitter just looks *weird*)
Perfume Puffs (another "don't hate them but the gimmick's just not for me" set)

Soda ponies - it's a cute idea and I LOVE their symbols, but I hate those holes in their lips! Eeeeek!!! Now, if they didn't have those holes... then I'd be fine with them. But as it is... :yikes:

So Softs I don't really dislike, I just prefer them without their fur. I like flocked toys in general (lifetime Sylvanian collector here), it just seems like such a shame to cover up their lovely vibrant colours and cute symbols!
I go back and forth on how I feel about sea ponies, I LOVE their song in the cartoon and I like them in general (heck I'm wearing a sea pony shirt right now!) but the toys themselves... I can never quite decide if I like them or not. I think it's partly because of how rusty and nasty they can get inside, that tends to put me off...
I love TAF Buttons! But I'm not a fan of green Tootsie, either. It's funny how ponies w/ similar colour schemes can feel so different, somehow.
(Actually, I'm not all that into white Tootsie, either.)

Oh yeah, the Fancy Pants ponies. Do not want ponies wearing underpants.
Probably made to show really young kids a sort of role-model as they transition from diapers to underwear? That's all I can think of. And if it helped kids with that then good on them. But I don't have any in my collection, ha ha.
Similarly, the Drink 'n Wet ponies. Nnnnnope!

I don't like the BBE babies, long legged sister ponies, 2nd set princess ponies with weird tinsel clump on forehead, bride or eyelash princess', pocket ponies, compartment ponies. I like the first set princess ponies and sundae ponies, but I don't like 3-d symbols. It's odd. Like how would they live like that? Almost like a tumor hanging off their butts. And a huge metallic tumor for the princess ponies at that.

Okay the last part cracked me up. :lol: I can never decide how I feel about TAF Buttons myself. Its odd how such a "divisive pony" is such an expensive one too.

Fancy Pants ponies are my least favorite set. I LOVE BBE because very few others do, actually. Cute n freaky.
I've warmed up to flutters but they aren't my fave still. They still look lumpy and odd, even with the wings.

I like most G1s! I'm not that keen on So Softs, I just have this feeling that ponies shouldn't be fuzzy. I also feel guilty about deflocking them unless they are practically bald already. I try to like BBEs because I feel sorry for them getting all the hate, but they don't really do it for me. Also the plushes and pyjama cases are not for me.
Apart from that, yay ponies!!

I'm not a fan of the ones with lots of big extra bits like a big drinking straw, rollerskates or a bowl with a fish in it etc. Just seems a little too far-fetched. I know the whole thing is far fetched and makes no sense though :lol: I'm not a fan of super long hair in any gen either. Not sure why, just personal preference.

This is a difficult one...
The closest I can think of is that I find it silly how some of the baby ponies are just baby versions of the adult ponies - I don't dislike them personally, but I find the idea of them silly. I would have rather they had been new ponies or actually younger versions of their adult counterparts (I wonder if anyone who played with G1 toys actually treated the baby ponies as this?)
I'd never paid attention to what the Drink 'n Wet ponies were, but yeah, I can see why people wouldn't like them... I've never been drawn to the idea of toys that wet themselves (I guess it's to make it realistic, like you're really looking after the toy? Still doesn't appeal to me.)

I used to dislike BnG Ringlets, especially her body mold, then, ironically, the user here named Ringlets, turned me on to her with proper Pink hair streak and not faded white...and I have loved her ever since!
NOW, my least favorite pony is Party Time...again that pose I know...but honestly it's more about teh colors-that sickly peach *blech*, and again ironically, I actually like the mold when it's a "Daddy", For example Sunbright and Berrytown...so I guess there's no accounting for taste >_<
Speedy is another one I am not a fan of, for the same reason as Party time, the color combination is kinda bland and clashes...
Also, Collector pose-least favorite pose easily, but I love the color of all teh ones in that pose...it's an odd dislike...
I used to say that the baby sea ponies look like tiny blobs with barely any detail, but they have grown on me as well...
I'm also not a huge fan of BBEs, even Icing, who is very unique in her color, is just a little "off" to me...but I take in ALL ponies and don't discriminate when it comes to collecting ;)

I feel bad saying this because BBE ponies are getting so ruthlessly dunked on in this thread, but... they honestly creep me out a little :huh: i think they'd be cuter if they had actual horse-style eyes instead of the weird human ones they do have.
I'm not a fan of any pony in the bride pose. I like the colourswirls because of how weird they are but the bride ponies themselves are... ehhh. I prefer a chunkier G1 and i imagine the pose would be difficult to play with.
I really disliked the DnW babies until i actually got one (baby rainfeather) and spent the day rehairing her. They've grown on me quite a bit... you just have to ignore the weird hole at the back :lookround:

So soft ponies! I love the characters but always find myself wishing their symbols were more visible. Plus once the glue beneath the flocking yellows, they start to appear moldy... And Perfume puffs! That hair is IMPOSSIBLE! No thanks.

I agree adult Sea Ponies are useless. Too big to play with, not cute... always have icky black stuff in their hair if they were played with..

I agree the D&W ponies are creepy with their butt-holes. yikes.

I don't like how G1 pearly ponies look, they look faded and just weird. They'd be okay if the symbols and eyes weren't pearly. I don't like First Tooths.
Flutter ponies are overrated. I like the concept of dainty fairy ponies but... I don't know. I'm not crazy about them like everyone else is.
I don't mind the MM's in general, but MM Windy's color scheme is so bad.
I think the purple/pink/yellow combo is cute but the tree makes it SO bad. I hate her symbol too but it would've been a tiny bit better if they made it a lighter green.

though i like the big brother and sweet heart sister i know what you mean about not fitting in visually, it always bugged me they weren't to scale to all the other ponies :huh:

it was like they were running out of ideas and getting desperate. i remember getting disappointed as a kid as G1's were going along with all their weird gimmicks. after year 6 things just got worse as the years went on

I think what happened is that MLP wasn't the Number One Brand New Fad anymore, and Hasbro had to get more competitive and attract attention to keep the line going. Like, if a gimmick sounded like an amazing attention grabber for a 30 second commercial then it was in, lol.
Speaking of gimmicks I don't like: Dance 'n Prance ponies. Okay, it is very amusing watching them judder around. But I can't get over the GIANT KNOB embedded in their chests. Also their plastic usually has this gross grungy look, not sure why.

So softs ugh. There's no way those things were ever going to age well. I hate flocked toys.
Candy canes too - I don't like curly hair, and their hair doesn't look very good straight. Also, scents that discolor them. I know the sundae bests and sweetberries are scented too, but I like their colors/themes better and I feel the candy canes get discolroed the worst.
Those 2 sets with hair that changes color in the sun - they're near impossible to find with good hair.
But by far the worst offenders are the dance n prances - I just can't get past the fact that 2 of them are supposed to be pegasi!!

The awkward pose of CJ, Tootsie etc - they look like they were caught-out in the middle of doing something!
(I love the green Tootsie colour-way, though. Turquoises + pale greens are a winner with me!)
Another awkward pose that someone here described as a turkey-leg: that of poor Moondancer and also the wobbly Quackers pose.
Intact Flutters are lovely, but they seem to put out an aloof vibe when compared the the gentleness of the earlier G1s.
Side note: would Basic Fun ever consider releasing CJ etc but in alternative poses?
Common ponies in alt poses would get the collectors interested in buying the otherwise ignored, common second-hand G1s? :hope: :think: :dribble:

I wouldn't want BF to make retros in alternative poses. Moondancer's pose isn't the most popular, but Moondancer was my first pony and I loved her in it. I'm glad they made her in the pose I remembered. The people who had Tootsie or Cherries Jubilee as a kid deserve to have that same experience.

Secret Surprise Ponies, they just creep me out. I mean, what is supposed to be the in-universe explanation for their anatomy? Are they some sort of cyborgs with robotic torsos equipped with a "secret compartment"? Or do they have a split spine of sorts that allows them to hide things in their bodies under the saddle? Or maybe they are just some sort of sentient pony staues that can talk, kind of like golems?
Dance & Prance Ponies, for a reason similar to above. I mean, I do like the gimmick, but how do they explain it in-universe that those ponies have a literal giant knob sticking out of their neck? Couldn't Hasbro be just a little more creative and at least make it into some sort of a circular brooch on necklaces they wear or something?
Then there are Princess Ponies, whom I loved in the cartoon but always had mixed feelings about their toys. For one thing, their symbols look like pieces of metal permanently bolted to their bodies, and those aluminum (?) streaks in their hair never seem to have aged well judging by how horrid they look in pretty much every PP picture I've seen so far.
On the other hand, I may be one of the few ones who actually like Drink & Wet ponies. I mean yeah, their rudimentary gastrointestinal tracts are kind of weird, but their faces are just adorable, like they were singing a little song! Plus if you are creative you may actually find interesting uses for their unorthodox anatomy - like with four D&W ponies and some DIY skills you can get yourself a cute MLP spitting fountain, or you can use a syringe to make them smoke a cigarette.

IMO not all toys should have an in-universe explanation for their gimmicks. Princess ponies have pretty jewel symbols. Secret Surprise ponies are just mlp keypers (although what does bother me about them are how big they are. They don't look right next to other ponies. They're kinda the same size but not quite -_-.) Dance and Prance ponies....could have been better designed. I guess they were counting on the fact that the boa would cover the knob? I like their gimmick but those knobs could have been more discreet...

IT'S ABOUT TIME SOMEBODY SAID IT.
I do not like that the big brothers are in different poses from the regular mares because sexual dimorphism is pretty much nonexistent in horses. But I guess hasbro just had to make them physically different in some way other than Breyer's. I also REALLY really hate that they went and made the boys a different breed? Like, Draft horse =/= stallion. (Also, tons of people seem to think that all draft breeds/horses with feathered feet are all clydesdales and I'm just like,,,,,,,,,no. )
That's why I consider the family friends & family babies ponies to be the best way to portray male ponies. And g2s.

I had to give away Banana Surprise and Sorbet Surprise/Sherbet at one point, because every one I sold I ended up somehow with 2 more. I know there's someone still in the community who has one of them, and reminded me of it a while back...
I also agree with LM on the poses and the retros.
As a kid I had Snowflake and CJ and hated that pose, but because a lot of the ponies I liked characterwise were also in it (Magic Star, Bright Eyes), I realised I had to kind of work out some kind of peace with it.
The weird thing is that when I got online and saw the SS Magic Star for the first time she just looked so wrong to me. Not the flocking, that would have been fine - but the pose. Even now, I have her, but cannot associate her to the character from my childhood. I like the rearing pose, but only on the others (Truly and Skippy). Everything about it on MS is alien to me.
So ugly pose or whatever, I'd rather they kept CJ's how it was originally.
Though if they wanted to make one special set of alternative poses just for kicks as WELL, I wouldn't complain...

I never understood why we needed pony friends....there were hundreds of ponies; why would they need more friends?! I did get Zigzag one year as a birthday present and honestly, when I played with my ponies, poor Zigzag would be left on the sidelines. :lol:
Also don't care for the Sweetheart Sister ponies. They just look weird compared to the other ponies. The ones with the eyelashes are especially terrifying.

I have no idea if this is even linked (or even if they came out close together), but they seem like a similar idea - a group of animal friends who aren't the main animal from the toyline.

We had carebear cousins in the UK, but never any MLP friends. So I wonder whether Hasbro UK just thought it was a step too weird for them to stock in stores. It's a good thought though, that Hasbro were trying to tap into that part of the market...

I basically don't like any that have extra holes or things to do with bodily functions i.e. Drink 'n Wet, Soft Sleepy Newborns, Soda Sippin', Surprise Twins, Fancy Pants. I also have an issue with Flutters, Precious Pocket, Dance n Prance, Happy Tails, Princess Brush n Grow, Ballerina, Baby Ballerina, Secret Surpise, Fancy Mermaid etc as they have extra plastic bits that stick out and which I find wierd. I find the articulated neck on Peek a Boo Babies and Baby Brothers weird and I'm also not much of a fan of the DB pose although I do have several popular ponies in this pose. I find many ponies with wierd eyes especially BBE and those with a pearly finish definitely don't take my fancy, however I do like TE ponies. I only have one or two first tooth ponies as this look isn't my favourite, and I'm also not a fan of the way Newborns or Teeny Tiny babies are sculpted, but I may get over that. I should also add that I'm not a fan of Rapunzel or SLH ponies in the G3. I often dislike ponies with crude cartoon drawings for symbols as well and prefer simple shapes.

I’m not a fan of the magic message ponies except mirror mirror the rest just don’t do it for me!
I also am not a fan of the ribbon/buttons/fizzy pose.

Princess Misty and Sugar Sweet are the only others, right? It clearly wasn't that popular with Hasbro either...
I don't really like the pose (I would say more hippo than elephant) but the ponies in it are all pretty ones :/

I hate beddy-bye eyes (so creepy), so-softs are kinda 50/50 I just hate how you can barely see their symbols. And the music ones or w/e with the stuff sticking out of their necks? ugly :/

Extremely long hair doesn’t age well. Might be why Rapunzel bugs me a lot.
That, and the Quackers pose. Such pretty ponies in such a weird pose; it throws me off... The same could be said with Sunbeam’s pose and the Powder pose.

Honestly I don't think any set offends me as much as the Fancy Pants. After six years of Baby Ponies with removeable cloth diapers or patterned panties, Hasbro releases a set of babies with painted on underpants and calls it a gimmick. They couldn't have been less creative if they tried. The Drink 'n Wets are technically more gross, but I still like them a lot better. They had unique poses, fun accessories and removable cloth diapers.
Not too wild on the Sundae Bests for reasons people have already said. But also because ever since childhood I've found it boring with sets where every pony's symbol focus around the exact same thing. But there are interesting things about them, like Swirly Whirly's pose and and how Peppermint Crunch actually kind of improves on the Firefly pose. And I do have some nostalgia for the set.
I'm fond of Newborn Twins and especially their accessories, but I think Teeny Tinys are cuter. Don't care much at all for newborns that aren't twins.

I don't like any of the scented ponies. Scented things always turn out weird, in my opinion. That said, I do have a G3 Citrus Sweetheart, and their scents have faded so much they are fine. I also don't like the G1s with crazy frizzed hair, like the Perfume Puff ponies. Ummmm... I'm not into the SHS so much, just because I prefer the chubby bodies.... that's about it, though.

I'm not a fan of the super-gimmicky ones from the later years of G1, like the Dance N' Prance, Ballerinas, Happy Tails, Sweet Talkin' or Sippin' Sodas. I'm also not fond of a lot of the baby gimmicks, especially BBE's and Drink N' Wets. I appreciate the Rockin' Beats for their ridiculous 80's-ness, but the one in that set I really don't like is Sweet Notes. Her symbols remind me of amoebae!

THe funny thing is that as a kid I thought the pocket ponies were weird (still had one though) but really adored the baby ballerinas (we didn't have the adults). As an adult I am less charmed by the ballerina gimmick, though. I guess it tapped into something for me as a kid in the early nineties, which I outgrew in the meantime. Maybe hasbro knew what they were doing with their gimmicks.
Still don't hate them as they were childhood ponies for me, just not sure why I was so enamoured.
