Hello,
I'm thinking about selling some restorable g1 doubles I have. Would anyone buy a (heavily) restored pony?
I'm taling about reroots, symbol, body and eye repaints. If not I'll probably customise them.
In the herd are: italian bowtie (needs reroot and retail), italian applejack (needs 1 eye completely repainted and has haircut), sundae best sherbert. (Hair cut and body discolouration, symbols and eyes are perfect. Is pink eyed variant) I also have a restored taf yum yum (marks and eyes repainted, parts of her face and wings repainted and rerooted). Baby glory. (has body discolouration, marker on inside of ears, small marker mark on on head/body seam, eyes, symbols and her are good)

Edit 2: Just figured out sherbert is a pink eyed variant.
Not trying to advertise here, just trying to see what I should do with them.

Mostly, no. There may be a rare occasion (nirvana or such).
But in most, I am a purist. I like to keep em as is. :)

I would, as long as the restore looks good. You could probably sell the Italians as is though.

It really depends. Rerooted hair? No thanks, I can tell. Repainted areas? As long as they're good, I would be fine. Repainted bodies are a no though, so are resculpted parts.
Generally though, I would prefer to do that work by myself.

For me, it depends on the pony and how much work they've had done. Body repaints though are a hard no from me. But in all honesty, I'd rather restore the pony myself, as I really like doing it ^^ I agree though that you could probably sell the italians as they are :)
If they're restorable honestly I wouldn't bait them (I have a hard time baiting g1s at all), but IMO when you're doing full body paint jobs, it's almost a custom ^^' if you restore and sell, make sure to state clearly what you've done. :)

Personally I wouldn't, I just prefer to keep them as original as possible. I do think it's better to restore than customize if they're actually restorable :B but I do agree that if they're so far gone that they require a full-body repaint, you might as well customize 'em.

True, but it was a taf yum yum. I think I'll buy an upgrade, but keep the restored one...

I put no as it's the closest to my feelings. Generally no, things like donor tails replacing washers etc I don't care about. But the more extensive the restoration the more rare the pony should be. So for example I'm not going to buy a restored cotton candy, but a Nirvana would be more reasonable. I'd still rather an original Nirvana with cut hair or missing symbols than restored

Depends. If its eye/cutie mark repaints, re-hairs ect. I don't care for much beyond that though

Most of my ponies are restored to some extent so it wouldn't make much of a difference to me. As long as the pony looks close enough to being mint I'm good, regardless of how much of the pony is original.

I actually won't buy ponies with original pink hair if they're prone to fading - I wouldn't be able to display them since they'd just fade, and where's the fun in something you can't display? Faded hair and re-pinks only for me.
I'll only buy rehairs if it's rehaired in original pony hair and as close to matching the original color as possible.
Repaints and resculpts? Never bought any, but I'm not opposed to the idea, so long as they're done well.

I think this sums up my feelings. I once found a Mimic who had her horn and part of her hoof nibbled off by a kitty. I sent her to a customized to restore her with clay and a repaint (just the areas where the clay was). The restoration was fantastic and barely noticeable. I later sold her for $60 when I downsized my collection. But as rare as she was (or sought after, however you look at it), I wanted to have her properly restored and didn’t mind her in my collection.

To me, rerooted hair ponies are customs.
To me, repainted ponies are customs.
I would wait for one that was original. I might commission a special custom from someone, but I don't placehold with customs. I would rather have an original with a hair cut or a flaw.
I have one exception to this which I didn't buy as a restored pony. She was a Greek baby and she had no eyes. And I got PkW to repaint her eyes (which she did beautifully) because she just looked so sad otherwise. But she's now restored and thus in my mind she's more like a special custom than an actual nirvana pony. Which is no negative remark against PKW's work, she did an amazing job - it's just how I feel about changing a pony.
Rerooted hair however is my main bugbear, because it involves removing original hair to put in new hair. And my mantra is do no harm - to me removing any part of the original is doing harm to the pony.
All these things are just my personal opinions, but I wouldn't buy a restored pony.
The only exception to this would be donor tails if they come from the right pony - but this is only possible on common ponies, since you can't just purloin a tail from a rare pony to fix yours (or should not, I better say). That's about as far as I would go, since you don't have to damage a pony or a tail to put a replacement tail in.
I also don't believe in breaking the neck seal to clean inside unless the situation critically demands it, and then I would consider the pony damaged. Likewise replacing the washer etc with a ziptie to prevent future rust - I wouldn't do it, because it's not original.

It depends. I'd buy a "bait" pony over one that's already been restored, as I much prefer to do most of that kind of work myself- for me, restoration is all part of the fun!
On the other hand, I might buy a restored pony if it's one I really want, (so I wouldn't get a restored peachy, but I'd certainly consider TaF yum yum) as long as the seller is honest and has fully disclosed all work done on the pony.
I know some consider repaints customisation, but it wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker for me. It's something I'm reluctant to do myself, as I don't have a very steady hand, but if it was just a matter of touching up eyes and symbols, as opposed to altering them, then I could live with that.

yes. i think restoring often means replacing missing material and cleaning the collectors item up.
i am not a fan of fullbodyrepaints, as they have a different feel and translucency than the original plastic.
i love and collect customs an i like restoring ponies that are in a really bad state, like many others wrote here. for me it is cherishing them and bringing them back to life. ^^

I personally prefer restored and pristine looking to shabby. It would be important to know it was restored. I always thought a nice way of showing that would be to root a a little of the hair that's a different color. I also don't like complete body paint.
But I think the ideal pony for restoration would be severe "bait". I wouldn't want that done to a pony that was really rare or would had been good enough for someone else.
I also haven't bought any ponies for years so... I'm probably not someone you would look to market them to.

I say yes, but for the most part I do restores myself. If it was a HTF or MO that I need I wouldn't hesitate if it was restored in some way.

I'll bet you can find someone to buy a restored TAF Yum Yum, as she's pretty hard to find.

im in between no and depends what they have had but i would have to see alot of really good photos to decide, iv bought rehairs and i have done alot to restores/repairing but i haven't touched symbols, maybe the odd eye if easy, if they are rare and im paying a lot of money for them then NO. :)

I would if they were one of my most sought after ones, I am not picky when it comes to condition. My only accept ions are mold and smoke damage. I do have a rehair bow tie from across the pond, and love her anyway.

When ponies are restored well it’s about saving something and making it beautiful again - very different to customs.
Ponies can be rehaired so they look almost indistinguishable to the original.
Symbols are harder but it can be done so they look very, very much like the original.
I wouldn’t buy a restoration unless it had been done very well, but I have several ponies in my own collection that I’ve restored and I don’t like them any less!

I wouldn't buy a restore if
a) it wasn't super well done (so that I could barely tell)
and
b) it wasn't cheaper than an original in poor condition.
I consider them partially customs and of much lower value.
Doesn't mean that the restorers work are bad in any way but collector wise I don't find them to be of the same value as a good condition pony.
That being said - I would still appreciate a placeholder but would prefer it in CB condition instead of restored =)

Yeah! I would buy a pony with any type of modifications as long as I liked the pony!

I'd buy a restored pony in the sense that I don't care too much about it being 100% original (I think the pony's wear and tear and adventure along tbe way before being cleaned up gives it more character and is kinda charming!), but honestly I would prefer to buy at a lower price and do the restorations myself because I find it fun :)

I do like some restores but I normally prefer to do it myself. Re hairs are fine with me along with removal of bad pen marks. Restored nirvanas like peru ones that have re hairs to original colors look cute. I personally would rather have a rehair/restored pony then a really baity one displayed. Good luck!
