Title: Zaps Brags
Post by: Zapper on August 17, 2019, 04:37:59 AM
So I finally get to have a fleamarket brag thread, too!
I usually am always out of luck at fleamarkets. I am watching for ponies like a hawk but when I see something ponyesque it's usually a knockoff, Mia and Me, or ugly Barbie stuff.

But today... behold... I LUCKED OUT!

My horsey findings in summary:

-G3 Pretty Parasol
-G3 Sweetberry
-G4 Feathermay
-Grand Champions drafter stallion (need ID)
-Grand Champions drafter mare (need ID)
-old Barbie horse
-coffee box from the 60s

Now onto the pics:

The Barbie horse is super messed up and yellowed but it's my favorite mould and since the hair can be saved this one is a perfect repainting candidate. I am happy to finally own this mould. I love the old Barbie horses because they still looked like horses and not vaguely equine things.

Feathermay has her usual discolored head but is otherwise perfect. I am unsure if I'll keep her after her spa. But I am happy I have found her in the wild!

Sweetberry is super dingy with pen marks all over her. She needs TLC but I always wanted her (diva pose lover), so this girl is going to stay.

Pretty Parasol is in great condition! Even her hair. After her spa she will be gorgeous.

About the Grand Champions... I have never owned one and I am a total n00b. But they are gorgeous fat little horses so I love them. If anyone can identify them PLEASE help.

PS: I also found a flawless, like new Calvin Klein backpack and an almost complete Monster High "Gloom Beach" Draculaura first edition without any eye wonk and perfect hair.
I made so many bargains my head is spinning a little. I won't say what I paid in total but believe me... I am NOT complaining. I did not expect to find so many good and great deals.

I would have picked up even more common G3s but the lady selling them was really strict about the prices. They were all in relatively bad shape (except Pretty Parasol) so I left them behind.
Quote of the day:
Quote
"I can't go cheaper because these are ALL THE ORIGINAL MY LITTLE PONIES".
I was like "yeah I know they are originals, I can see that. I can also see all these pen marks and dreadlocks on them" :P

But hey, I am satisfied with the ones I took home.
Now onto cleaning them up! I'll post a before/after for Sweetberry later on! :)

Do you have any idea how rare your gray Grand Champion mare is?! :inlove: That's either the Boulanaisse mare whose name I can't remember, or Marzydoats the Clydesdale mare.

The rest of your haul is equally awesome!

I wanna say the bay stallion is...Drum Major?

ETA: Nope! I was wrong. He's Leviathan. Also quite rare.

You lucked out big time!

Thanks  The Barbie horse was wearing a single horseshoe so maybe I need to hang that one up to increase my luck for next time

Ohhh wonderful, thanks for the link. I am pretty sure she is the Boulonaisse one. What does "rare" mean in GC circles? Seeing the stock photos I am sad she did not have any of her beautiful tack but I am still very happy. The stallion only needs a new saddlepad, that's cool.

It means hard to find, highly sought after and in most cases expensive as...You-know-what. I don't see her or Leviathan often second hand. Empire got a little spotty with distribution in the latter years. I've got no idea what either of them go for singularly. But I've seen the Boulanaisse Family go for well over $100.

Wow, well they separated the family because I couldn't see any foals on that table
So I'll better keep these behind glass. I really love them! Never had one in hand and now I even have two.

So glad you got some pony bargains!  Don't you love when a seller thinks things are worth a fortune just because they are genuine MLPs.  I lol at your reply though, Magic!  Congrats on your newest pony additions :cheer:

Thank you, Kiwi! ^.^

Yeah, I am tired of hearing about "vintage MLP" on fleamarkets, tbh. The marks on Sweetberry are ballpoint... sometimes people need to understand that flaws brings down a collectibles' value.
She was a nice lady overall, tho.

The people I really dislike are the ones who ask 15€ for a ratty, incomplete, almost broken MH doll and the excuse is always the same: "I paid 30€ for this doll when it was new!" Yeah... but now it isn't new anymore

Btw, just found out my Barbie horse is the one and only LUCKY. Didn't recognize it because his white turned into yellow.

I might have gotten bitten by the GC bug. They go so well with my other horsies.

I combed them all yesterday and the GC stallion looks fantastic! Only had slightly dried tips,he looks really good for his age. Might have belonged to careful kids.
The mare needs another spa round.

Be careful- Grand Champion collecting can be a slippery slope, lol :P

Good luck with the mare! Hope she cleans up great.

I second Bubble Tea on that. I've been collecting them off n on since I was a kid. Does the Boulanaisse mare have a name Bubble?

As far as I know, she does not. Such a shame such a pretty mare never got a proper name.

Bummer and weird. It doesn't make sense to only name one member of the family.

Whatcha gonna call her Zapper?

Wow, nice finds :D Congrats! Gotta say I love those Grand Champions in particular!

And yeap, people insisting that their ponies are original, hard to find, pricey ponies are an interesting kind of persistent :P Especially when it's covered in pen marks and has been chewed on.

I have plans for Sweetberry. She'll get a partial rehair in deep red.
And the other two will be sold. They cleaned up nicely and have great hair!

Congrats on the awesome finds! They cleaned up really well too, I love the after pics :) I can see why you love the GC horses, I also think their shapes are really beautiful (and not unnaturally skinny like many equine toys nowadays).

I remember seeing Lucky in a catalogue as a child, and wanting him badly, he looked so cool on promo pics with all the tack! I personally think the yellowed colour suits his colouring pretty well, but if you don't want to keep him like this (nor repaint him), de-yellowing might also be an option. I've heard about this method awhile ago, but never tried it out until about 2 weeks ago - Requiemart's great recent tutorial (link (https://www.requiemart.com/blogs/news/materials-monday-de-yellowing)) has helped me a lot, and I'm surprised by how well it worked on a very badly sunburnt/yellowed hard plastic doll I tried it out on.

Thank you so much, Loona! I'll look into this :)
Yeah, when I found out it was Lucky I became hesistant about repainting. I'll see how I can help him. His mane is perfect and there is no frizz so it would make sense to try and restore him to my best abilities.

Like the people who go, "They sell for £40 on ebay."

Well go sell it there then. Not at the carboot sale/flea market where people aren't ebay bidding. Or stupid.

...Back on topic.

Congrats on your finds :D Especially Feather May. I don't know anything about GC but it sounds like you picked up a couple of nice ones there as well :D

I made this into my general brag thread now.

Gonna resume with HER MAJESTY PEARL that I got from Barnaclelady ^^
I was looking for her for ages and every time she was way too expensive.

So now I finally have this mini grail of mine. So stoked!
She is a gorgeous pony. Her eyes are mesmerizing, they look kind of glazed over thanks to the pupil being lighter than the corona. Her hair color is also beautiful as it is a nice peachy orange with golden tinsel, making it look a bit like honey. Finally, her symbol is nautical and I love me some nautical themes.

Welcome to the herd, Pearl!

Title: Private swap with Nemesis
Post by: Zapper on December 22, 2019, 01:34:00 PM
Nemesis and I did a private Halloween swap and kinda, sorta this became my Christmas present since Nemesis had some troubles getting one of my most recent doll grails for me - CATRA (Dreamworks version) <3
Spoiler

She also got me Freak Du Chic Clawdeen for my MH collection and Galadriel for my Funko collection. Simply amazing!

Furthermore, I got American candies (there was a full bag of Reese's but... yeah, my family and I had already destroyed them at this point, lol!), a cute Halloween-y baggy with adorable confetti/decor inside, stickers and a Pullip post-it block I probably won't use because I keep Pullip merch untouched XD

BIG THANKS to Nemesis for this sweet Christmas/Halloween box of surprises. I really loved doing this swap with you! And Catra... finally mine. I am super happy!

Ah, it seems to have been a great swap! I like halloween-themed stuff all year round, so such a box of goodies arriving around Christmas wouldn't bother me at all ^^
That Clawdeen is gorgeous! And congrats on Catra - what a great timing for a grail doll to arrive!
