Title: My Little Pony Cross stitch?
Post by: Rhubarbpie on April 19, 2013, 01:55:14 PM
I was wondering if there are any MLP Cross stitch patterns out there? I have seen some on ebay, but they were single sheets and so costly to ship.  I there a book anywhere I might be able to buy? Any generation will be ok.

I was wondering this the other day. What you can do is download pcstitch, it's totally free and unlocked, you just can't save your projects. But if you print it out that should be ok. You can then import your images into the program, edit them if you wish, and stitch away! Another option is to draw your own on graph paper :)

http://www.spritestitch.com/ has some FiM patterns, and patterns can be requested on their message board.  It's a super fun site to browse. So much awesome geeky stuff! :nerdy:

I have some on my Pinterest! :D They're supposed to be for perler beads, but they would work perfectly for cross stitch too.

I use a program called KG-chart for making my cross-stitch patterns.
It's completely free and comes with all it's options unlocked.

The only issue it has, is that it's color suggestions are far from perfect. So the color number it suggests and shows as a nice bright blue for instance, might not be half as nice in real life.
The lists it gives you are best used as a guideline.

I hope you share your creations with us :)

I ll second using software to create your own...thats what I do for patterns and after you tweak things around its possible to create the most amazing cross stitch patterns.

I purchased a program years ago (more than 10 years ago... LOL), but I've never made a My Little Pony cross-stitch pattern (mostly Hello Kitty and Strawberry Shortcake).  Anyway, I got one of those charts with actual color samples of the floss and use that to choose my colors... that works perfectly!!

I was playing around last night and did some cutie mark patterns. I'm gonna try using actual pony photos of mine to see how they come out. Hopefully it won't be too tricky!!

i have done a few photo patterns on pc stitch (not sure yet on how to share them!! anyone??) but for them to look any good, they need to be at least 100-150 stitches wide, with about 100 colours!!

just curious if it anyone knows if it would be ok copyright wise to use hasbro images?? they are pretty much being altered in the program, by removing some edges and moving some lines. or i was thinking i could trace images from books, alter them a bit, then scan them. i'm not looking to make money or anything, but would like to share whatever patterns i do, cause if i do say so myself, some of them are looking real good on screen!! just gotta get the 3 huge boxes of threads out now to see how the colours will be in the real

edit to add pic of pattern :)

Photo patterns are the worst aren't they? I've tried that once and I admit gave up pretty fast. >>
Even simple artwork often needs a lot of work. That is one incredibly good looking Pinkie Pie pattern though!
I can't wait to see the final result when it's all stitched up!

As for sharing patterns based on hasbro art, I think if you stick to the exact letter of the law it's not allowed, but it's one of those things I do not think they mind, as long as you're not selling them for money. I've seen dozens of stitching patterns being shared based on game and cartoon artwork and such, and I can't recall seeing any cease and desist letters. If you don't try to get rich off them, I think you should be fine.

nawww, thankyou  i'm working on ts now, and she is proving exremely tricky!! i did get a photo of g1 apple jack to come out not too bad, will see if i can get that one up. photos are the worst!!! so many blurred edges and such, and i end up erasing too much!!

Post Merge: April 23, 2013, 05:15:11 AM

okies, here's one from one of my photos. of the few i've done, this one came out the best. it's done in virtual stitches, rather than colour blocks/symbols :)

It was mentioned that the perler ponies would work as a pattern; any image that is zoomed in to see the pixels would work as a pattern too. I only did the one cross-stitch and that was years ago, but I used a zoomed-in image for the pattern.

Photos are really hard!!  The only times I used a photo, I overlayed the cross-stitch grid and "drew" in the pattern by hand using the photo underneath as a guide.  I didn't let the program "convert" the image into stitches.

For example, this photo:

became this:

However, "cartoonish" and "line art" is a lot easier to convert by hand!!  (I can make an almost exact replica of it into a cross-stitch pattern!)

PandoraFox is right than in the letter of the law using Hasbro lineart without a merch/use license is not allowed. But I think we can see from the amount of fan creations out there thanks to G4, Hasbro are not Disney and are therefore much more understanding, appreciative and liberal with their creations. As long as they are not commercially being used in any way that they shouldnt be, as long as they are not being used for profit or are small enough to be not worth worrying about and as long as they are not damaging the brand.

These are adorable :) I ll have to share a couple of the patterns I have created of images. You are right photos can use hundreds of shades but thankfully the software I use can be set to different thread totals and it therefore adapts to more manageable thread numbers.

The Applejack you have created is gorgeous! :)

Thanks!! I think I have a new hobby now  I can also lower the number of thread colours used, but spesh on the photos, it takes a lot of definition out when I do. But still having fun playing. It's very therapeutic!!

I love the idea here. Has anyone seen the MLP hearts floating around the internet? I found a cross stitch pattern of one someone did and I was so excited! I thought, if I could just change the colours and the mane, I could do my own! And then I realised it would be so hard to just edit it... so I've had to draw one myself And then grid over it and 0_0;;; so much work... but once I get stitching, it'll be such a relief...

I loved cross stitching until my eyes went bad. I find that it is just to hard to do it anymore even with glasses. I miss it. Some of these pattern ideas make me want to try and figure out how to see and try it again!

I just played with some vectors and made a great pic to pattern-ify. It's Cadance and Shining Armor in front of the Crystal Heart, and I'm gonna make it into a wedding record for my brother and sister-in-law. :art:

Not a cross stitch fan, but... I made this Lemon Drop (http://www.flickr.com/photos/multaa/9582966294/) in 2004 or 2005 and vaguely remember finding the pattern online. I've said in another thread that I adapted it from a G1 knitting pattern, but to be honest I'm not sure anymore... Feel free to copy her if you can and/or want.

My friend Shatyr made cross stitch coasters that she brought to the MLP Fair with, she makes her patterns by hand and it's really cool. I think she uses grid paper and then watches the cartoons/movies of G1 to get ponies to use.

Just a tip! There is a free program called perler (link: http://dolkow.se/perler/index.php)
where you can take any picture you want and get the patterns for hama beads - but since cross sticking would work to - you can make what ever you want into cross stick pattern :)

Ah, MLP Cross Stitch! As DancingPhoenix said, I've made several patterns by hand. I've tried putting pictures into programs for patterns, but I despised how the programs wanted me to change colors every 3 sitches and wouldn't add backstitching, so instead I make my own.

I've made small patterns, both G1 and G4, that fit perfectly into coasters. I've also got some larger ones in the works that I am nearly jumping out of my chair to get started. If only I didn't have so many other cross stitch patterns in the works...

As soon as I find my upload cable, I'll get them up here. I'm quite proud of the ones I've finished, for all that they're small.

The pattern that took me the longest was Teresa Wentzler's Carousel, which I did for my best friend. Only took me 3 years. We'll all kindly ignore the fact that, during those three years, I learned new techinques and so half of the piece looks far more professional than the first half. XD It still looks awesome.

I enjoyed looking at the photos of everyone's creative work and patterns. I did some MLP G1 cross stitch ages ago, but converted knitting patterns that I think were free in Womans Weekly in the UK. TicTacToe photocopied them and sent them to me... I have Majesty, Gypsy and Princess Tiffany. x
