Hello!
I am trying to figure out a way to take better pictures on my ebay listings and I came across this picture box thing that allows you listing pictures to have a bright white background and look very clean. I have seen about 2 or three ebay pony sellers use something like this as their listing look great! Does anyone here have any experience using these? What one works for you? And I was just wondering which is the best brand that won't fall apart after 2 pictures..... Any recommendations? :biggrin:

A light box?
Yes.. but you'll still need multiple sources of diffused lighting to get good pictures.
My husband has a lightbox but I prefer a seemless background for product shots. I dunno what his is, but it's made of fabric and can collapse for storage. There's also DIY on how to make your own. There's usually no need to buy one.

Oh yes a light box. Really? I didn't know that you could make one...will look into that. Lets see how my DIY skills are! :lol:

I made one and I'm definitely not the DYI type. It worked great. But at this point, I need to replace the poster board in the back.

at the dollar store you can buy a sheet of large white poster board or two, and then curve them up for smooth white background.

I splurged and bought myself one from Amazon (it was $32). They had cheaper ones, but I wasn't caring for the reviews and went for a higher quality one - has 2 rows of LED lights that plug into a USB, 4 different backgrounds, and a carrying bag that everything folds down and stores inside.

I got it for photographing stuff for Etsy and for Ebay, and it's plenty large enough for ponies. Two caveats: I have to iron the cloth back-drops just about every time I use them as they wrinkle easily, and I did have to replace the bulbs in the lights with 'natural' bulbs as they came with 'warm' bulbs which affected the color of things photographed. Not a big deal for under 40 bucks for something I can store in my closet. I do clean up the photos in photoshop to give them a perfectly black or white background.
It does allow me to get pretty clean photos of my ponies, like so:

I’ve made my own to take pictures of my rats when I finish making their iron throne. There are lots of tutorials for making one pretty easily.

My husband made one for me from wood and white fabric with a white poster board background. I usually lay a lamp with a daylight LED bulb on top or take my pictures outside in the natural light.

I'm getting ready to buy one of the collapsible ones with the built-in LED lights, though, to save space.

Lightboxes can easily be made yourself! But I think they're a bit hard to use. (too bright)
I like to take my pictures by a window when it is still bright out (but cloudy) this mostly works for small items, though..

Thank you guys so much for all the tips! I really want to give people the best photos/experience possible so someone doesn't miss anything when their trying to buy something from me.....I will definitely start looking at DIY videos and comparing products as $40 would definitely pay itself back if it worked well! I've heard people having extremely good solutions like a white rubbish bin!

I've got a small one (30 cm x 30 cm) for almost nothing at wish. It took ages to arrive and needed some airing out because it smelled very strongly, but it does the job for getting pictures done for ebay!

I got a reaaally big one for about £9.99 on eBay. I use coloured card as backdrops as it's a bit different but white card of patterned fabric would work just as well. I use two photography lamps to make the lighting really bright and even too. Light boxes definitely make your photos look more professional!

I use white cardboard and natural lighting, and it works for me ;)

I prefer natural light in photos, but a light box is a good second. A tip is to use lamps with daylight- lightbulbs if you do. Artificial light are often too hard, too yellow or too blue in my opinion ^.^
