Title: Minnesota May Meet! May 27th Down South on the Farm
Post by: Aurora on March 01, 2017, 10:29:43 AM
Hello, Minnesota (and surrounding states!)! It doesn't really look like Spring today, but by May, it should be sunny and bright, the trees will be that lovely Mimic Green, the grass will no long be Jenny Brown, and the birds will be singing... whatever pony color birds sing in! Time to get together!

Host Ponies: Glory and Firefly. They're pretty thrilled about hosting together!

When: Saturday, May 27th, from 10 am until 4 pm, but feel free to come earlier/stay later. (If you want to camp on the yard, we've got space!)
Where: Aurora's House- sort of by Albert Lea. Better directions will be pm'd before the meet. It's about 1.5 hours from PonyQueen's house.
What to Bring, Food: Potluck Item. We'll be grilling or cooking the main course, you should bring side dishes and deserts.
What to Bring, Pony: Ponies to sell and show off, money to buy aforementioned ponies. Something for the prize table if you are able- this doesn't have to be a Pony Thing- it could be a food item or something the non-collectors might be interested in.

I've gotten us a DJ! He's a friend of the family trying to make this DJ thing work, and he's pretty nervous about playing a bunch of music he's never heard before. Fun!

My house is a hobby farm, and by May there should be baby piggies along with the normal poultry and pets running around. The corn will be just springing up, and you'll be able to see the wind farms!

There will be games, prizes, and of course, a tour of the pony room. Don't wear the fancy pants, we have dirt. Probably mud.

Who Will Be There?
Yes!

Aurora plus about 5 people
Kazzellin
Blackfrost & Mom
Scarlettkitty81
Sapphire Rain
Eternia
MNGusty +3
Bianca

No (boo!)
PonyQueen
Aquatic Neon
Patchwork

Maybe?
Wizzer218
Delphian

Potluck list:
Aurora: Main dish, pork-oriented
Bottled water
Blackfrost: Cupcakes

Woo! Sounds great! Best of all, it's after classes are out for the semester, so I know I'll be able to make it! :D Too bad it's early for rhubarb, but I'm sure I'll think of something else to bring - like the blackberry swirl cheesecake I mentioned last time and wasn't able to deliver on. ;)

me and mom game for coming! I'd love to see baby pigs and be on a hobby farm again.   Use to have one but actually had horses.. and well horses and cats and several dogs.

We're going to try and bring something desert wise, unless you think or anything else really.. but its still early we got time to figure it out..

I was pondering that, and I don't think there is. I can message a few of the regulars- I'll do that next week if they don't show up by then. I'm glad you guys found it, though!

I am gathering a small group of family to help out with the background work, and to keep the dog from jumping on anyone. He's got horrible manners, but he's a good boy. So when we are figuring out how many cupcakes to make, it will include at least 5 hungry non-collectors and a toddler.

And I was serious about not wearing good clothes- we are on a dirt road, with a dirt driveway, and a lot of dirt. If there's rain, there will be mud!

It's a little too early for me to say yes or no for sure, but I'll definitely try. :D I don't know how well my allergies will hold out though. Are there any horses on your farm?

I'm closer to Iowa than I am to the Twin Cities, that's for sure! The closest town to me is Wells, if you Google that you might be even closer than you think. Where in Iowa are you?

It's a little too early for me to say yes or no for sure, but I'll definitely try. :D I don't know how well my allergies will hold out though. Are there any horses on your farm?

Animals I have: Poultry- chickens, turkey, guinea fowl. Short-haired dog (Bulldog). Anti-social cat. Boa constrictor (in a cage in a back bedroom, so if this freaks you out, pretend I didn't say it). We usually get baby pigs in April, so there will probably be piggies. They aren't terribly near the house, but the chickens are free-range. Feathers are all over the yard.
The dog, cat, and snake are in the house. We don't generally encourage the poultry or pigs into the house.
I can't think of any other allergens, other than general pollen and dirt. My husband is allergic to a lot of things, so we try to keep the house relatively mold-free.
The only other thing I can think of that might be inconvenient for some people is that the pony room and one of the sales rooms are on the second floor of the house, and there are a few steps to get into the house. If anyone needs me to build a wheelchair ramp, let me know. (I'm only half-kidding here, if anyone has any special mobility issues, let me know.)

And HOORAY! I'm so happy to see other people here!

ETA: I am looking for the Ponyville G3 Rollercoaster. Anyone?

Aurora, I have the set with the roller coaster, though I don't think it's complete. I've been working on selling my ponyvilles, but have never brought it with as I can't find it all. Guess I'll be bringing it along this time! :D

I think I have all the other big pieces (cake house, balloon house, etc) but not having that roller coaster is sort driving me crazy. I have the ferris wheel, and I'm not even really worried about the little bits- it's that big thing! Gah!
The Ponyvilles are on of the things that I let Lincoln play with all the time- anything he asks for over in that corner, I'll bring it down for him. I think he would have lots of fun with the coaster! If you have any accessories- especially the food or gift boxes, he really digs those- I'm looking for them, too.

Thank you, Kazzy! If you happen to have small sets (like that popcorn or camera house) I don't really know what's available, so I don't know what to put on my wishlist. I thought I had all the buildings, then I discovered a bunch at the local thrift shop- a coco mug and diamond-shaped spa, plus something else small. So there could be a hundred things out there that I just don't know about!

Hooray! I probably forgot a whole bunch of people I should have PM'd- if anyone happens to notice a MN person running around, feel free to point them here! I was hoping you and your clan would come, Gusty- the chickens like to have children around to beg from. I'll be sure to have lots of snacks for them! (The kids and chickens!)

I have two shoeboxes full off the small sets. I tired collecting them for awhile, when the main G3 line got away from me. Then the ponyvilles got away from me, and I kind of gave up. The sets are all sorted out in baggies and are complete. :D

I had this same thought- we might re-think the draw together, since it is PQ's Baby, and I would feel weird hosting one without you! But we will power through and have fun, so much fun you'll feel it in the Netherlands. Or whatever exotic location you are in. You crazy jet-setter, you!

I didn't buy any of the Ponyville sets in stores unless they were on clearance, but they are so easy to find in second-hand markets! Except that sneaky rollercoaster, it seems. I have a strange cubby in the wall behind the door of the pony room, and I've put shelves into it and put all the Ponyvilles in that corner- most are too tall for Lincoln to reach, but he can get some of them down- I just make sure the things I care about (I have a couple customs) are on the higher shelves. So I would love to see what you have, and add to my collection!

New Richland, the town close by, is having a city wide garage sale a month before the pony meet. I'm taking a bunch of the ponies that haven't sold at meets (common G3's mostly) and selling them to children for a quarter. I'm curious to see how this goes, and I'm going to print up some little flyers about the meet and hand them out selectively to people who seem very interested in the ponies. I'm not sure what will happen because of this- we might get some new collectors, we might just get a couple of kids, I might get arrested. Who knows???
Whatever doesn't sell at the garage sale is going to be really cheap at the meet- so bring your quarters!

Have a Draw Together! You guys will do great! Lol, I won't be in the Netherlands, just a little sailing excursion on Lake Superior... although I did just get back from a WILD 5-week Iditarod adventure in Alaska!! You'll have to wait to hear about it at the next "Show and Tell" I'm able to attend, although it's not pony related.

What sort of things? My family has a few things that they might not love anymore, but I'm not sure what it would take to get my sister to part with her sorting hat. I'll ask, though- I seem to remember a loose Hagrid roaming about, looking for his umbrella. The heaviest action figure I've ever seen!

Dang Pony Queen!  Can't wait to hear about it!
Aurora,  I'm not really sure what Harry Potter stuff we're looking for, lol.  I just started reading the books to the 7 yr old and she's obsessed,  so I thought if anyone had any cheap stuff, we'd take a look.  I don't want to drop serious pony money on it by any means!!  We did deck her room out with potion bottles, a broomstick, art work and wands though, it is pretty cool!!

That sounds like an awesome room- I'm proud of you for raising a witch, Gusty. I'll keep an eye out for cool stuff- if nothing else, my sister will certainly be willing to show off her sorting hat! I got put into Hufflepuff, which suits me just fine. Too much drama in the other houses! It would be fun to read a book based on a Hufflepuff person, though. "Woke up. Ate toast. Did homework. Having problems with potions, but I should still get a C. Some guy from Slytherin stole a book from the library, but Potter caught him."

Well, we're getting closer to the day! I've some jewelry I'm planning on making and showing at the meet; depending on the review I get, I might offer it online as well! We shall see what happens. :awake: I'm hoping to have my G1s sorted by then so I have some of those along with the G3s, but I won't be holding my breath on that - classes aren't out until early May! :silly:

I am excited to see pony jewelry! I love any crafty pony things- whoohoo!
The only G1's I'm still hunting are pretty hard to find, and other than trades I might be strapped for cash. I am still selling many of my foreigners- they'll be there! I can probably find a better way to price them, too... the stickers on the table wasn't very organized.

I've got my family of garage salers looking for Harry Potter stuff! And I've officially put my husband in charge of cooking, which you can all thank me for later, after you've tasted some of the horrid things I concoct when no one is looking. Not poisonous, but not the right combination of green beans and anything!

I think there will be around ten collectors at this meet, plus family and friends, so probably around 20 people? Kazzy, I think there were closer to 30 people at the Summer Meet, but probably 15-20 collectors. Did we have a group picture at the summer meet? I don't remember!!! My poor old brain!!!

Eternia- I'm pretty darn excited to meet you!

Honestly, we are THRILLED when we get something specific to hunt for. Don't worry about anything being expensive, we only buy cheap treasure. We have a family joke about what people collect, just so we have an excuse to look for more random things at yard sales. My pseudo sister collects armadillos, because she knows we won't find a lot of them!

I'm planning to invite a guy named Bob, and he is really into Transformers. I spent an hour on Saturday listening to Transformer Speak. I like Transformers, but not to that point! Hahaha! So I'll be sure to invite him.

And I'll add something to the first page about what people are bringing. Thanks for the reminder!

Hi! Ummm I live in Minnesota too, in the Twin Cities area... I am not sure how this meet works, could I partecipate too? I would have to bring a +1 I am afraid, I don't have a license yet, nor a car, and if the location if far enough my husband is going to have to stay at the event... But I can cook!!! Tiramisu? From my family traditional recipe too (my mom's).
Let me know if it is ok for me to show up and where to go :)

Hello, Biancaferrando! Of course you are welcome! We love to meet new people! And your husband is completely welcome to stay and hang out with the other plus ones that will be there! Who knows- we might convert him! And if you are bringing Tiramisu, there is NO WAY we will turn you away!

The meet is for anyone who is willing to get there, and it's a fairly informal gathering of people who just want to chill with other pony people. If you have ponies to sell, you should bring them- I will have some tables, but if you have a card table to set them up on, that would be good. Worst case, we'll put tape on the floor and everyone can crawl from one floor display to the other. We'll make it work. You may also want yard chairs- we have a lot of yard, and it's nice to just sit on the yard, especially if you don't really want to look at ponies anymore.
I'll be sending out directions to my house when we get closer to the meet, but it is near the town of Wells or New Richland- about halfway between the two of them. There are a couple other people coming down from the Twin Cities, so you might be able to catch a ride or caravan with them. My house is out in the country, so directions really will be important.
If you want to buy ponies (or trade) there will be lots of ponies for sale here. My internet is sometimes non-existent, so please bring cash or checks- you MIGHT be able to transfer paypal money, but please don't count on it.

Does that sort of answer your questions? Let me know if there are any other questions- and other people, what did I miss? Ponies, food, games, ponies...

Bianca, I sent you a PM. :)

Edit: For those who will be taking 35 south-bound to get to the meet, they're re-doing 3 small bridges between Medford and Hope (about 10-15 miles or so), so the highway is reduced to one lane going each direction at reduced (60mph) speed. And the rest stops are closed for that stretch of the highway. It's barely possible that will be finished by the time the meet rolls around, but I doubt it. ^^;

Oooh, good to know! Hopefully the traffic won't be really heavy on a Saturday morning. The easiest way to get to my house is to find New Richland. The easiest way to do that is to take 35, but there are other routes if 35 has big problems.
From New Richland, you're going to go about 7 miles to the West, then turn South for another 3-4 miles (I've got to look at the map, I think it's closer to 4 miles). Like I said, I'll send better directions when we get closer, but this should help for the planning.

Curse you, Higher Education!

I was chatting with my co-worker, and mentioned that I'm getting ready for this meet. She said she used to have a daycare in her basement, and has lots of toys from the 80's. I'm already getting her ponies, but she mentioned care bears. I told her that she could send the toys with me, I would sell what I could, and return the rest and the money for her. I'm pretty excited about this- who knows what kind of treasure is in these boxes!!!!
There's also a garage sale on Friday that has Strawberry Shortcake and vintage Barbies- it's in Janesville, near Mankato- I'll be going to that before work. Exciting times to be a pony collector!

 I know, right? Homework, oy!

Hey, if there's a so soft Crumpet in there, hang on to he for me and I'll buy her from you? I keep getting outbid on her :( ;)

Three more days and I can play with my ponies and projects! :squee:

:squee: Yee! Class if over, school is out, I can start playing with ponies again! :squee:

Which is good, because I'm also going to be a dealer at FurryMigration again, so I'll need to get ready for that, as well. Different weekend, thankfully - it's not until August. :awake:

First things first! ...which would be cleaning house, so I have space to clean ponies. :cloud:

Phooey. Not what I had in mind.

Where are you now, Scarlet? I thought you were just moving into a different place- I didn't realize it was so far away from your former house.

I did message PeachPink, I haven't heard from her, though. You could try messaging her too- it's been a little while.

I just need certain bits of it- the courtyard, the canopy over the pool... so if you are garage saling it for cheap, ($40?) consider it sold. I found a Lullabye Nursery at a yard sale the other day for $1.50, couldn't leave it behind! Who needs it? I'm thinking of making it a prize, but if no one needs it, then it's a horrible prize.

I actually have TWO Paradise Estates to sell... one that's great, another that's fair. The one that could sell for parts&cheap doesn't have the pieces you need, if I remember correctly. Will try to get it out of storage soon!

Ah well, I'll keep looking. Sooner or later I'll find the pieces I need. If not, the ponies will just look a little redneck--- nothing new there! So PQ, don't hurry to find it. You literally have YEARS.

I've got the perfect game/event to play at the pony meet- we're having an egg hunt! Team Egg Hide will be busy at work on Saturday morning- Annie is excited that she gets to hide eggs for grown-ups, so she can be a little more cruel than she was on Easter. Most of the eggs will have candy or small prizes, but some will have a little note that you can get a prize from the prize table. If you have prizes to donate to the prize table, they'll be welcome!

I've also got Ashley (DJ/Foxfire) working on a little project for everyone, but if you could message me your preferred Ponysona (or whatever) with their colors and symbols, I won't have to hunt you down. You can just post them here if you'd like.

And on my drive home every day, I keep trying to think of fun ways to mark the path to my house- there is a chance I will commit vandalism. Brightly colored vandalism. Be ready for it.

Getting closer! Only about three weeks now! I'm getting my sales stuff in order, and trying to keep from cluttering up the hallway- it's sort of a catch-all for the things I don't know what to do with yet, and it gets cluttered pretty fast. It will look good for the meet, though!

I gave a picture of Twisty Tail to Ashley- yours may be the first one she finishes. We'll see!
I've got the eggs ready- all I have to do now is keep them safe from a toddler for a few weeks... wish me luck! There are 16 eggs with a Prize Certificate in them. I have stuff to fill the prize table, but some of the prizes will be a candy bar or bag of bacon-flavored sunflower seeds, so don't get too excited. (Feel free to add to the table- we can always make up an easy way to give away extra prizes, but it would be sad not to have enough!)

I may not be able to unleash my new project at the Meet after all. None of the molds I made Sunday turned out - they all had air bubbles, and lots of them. :yikes: I still have a few weeks to try again, though, so there's hope.

Meanwhile, I need to make some risers for my table. It might be better than what I had last time. And back up the pictures on my phone so I can take them off my phone and take photos at the Meet for once!

Oooh! What kind of puppy? I love puppies! Your puppy and your husband are both welcome, we do have an adult bulldog who will want to play- he's a jumper, but he's the nicest dog. And there are chickens- I'm planning to keep them locked up, which is less picturesque, but safer for the chickens. As long as neither of those frighten you, I'm not worried! There's lots of yard, and we do have a kennel (it's a mess, but it's reasonably secure) and baby gates for locking dogs and kids away from each other.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  That sucks, Neon, but I understand.
I'm already planning another meet, so you'll see our little corner of the world sooner or later.  As far as the poster goes, if you want to finish it (or just leave it at the state it's in) I'll still buy a copy the next time I see you, and I imagine other people will, too. If nothing else, I want to see what you did with Glory and Firefly- I love art with those two!
On a slightly happier note, I don't just have to hand my purse to you and buy all your stuff like I usually do! But now you have time to save up and get more stuff... NOOOOOOOO!  (I have a dinosaur for you- I'll just tell him he has to wait. He'll roar at me.)

I don't have one, I'm sorry your purchase went badly! I'll keep an eye out.

AAAANNNNDDDDD-----

I sent out the direction to my house. After sending them, I re-read them and I sound a little grim. Don't worry- it's not a bad drive. There might be tractors, just let them win.
I'm planning to have bottled water to drink and a small assortment of soda- probably off-brand Mountain Dew- to keep my helpers happy. I also plan to make a pumper pot of coffee and we have lots of tea. If you want anything else to drink, you'll want to bring it along.
And in case you don't read the first post again, I've hired a DJ! He's a family friend who is just starting out, so we'll see how it goes!

Wow, no Neon? Another first! You and Patchwork have a safe trip! I'll have to buy posters from you the meet after this one, then.

Which reminds me - have you ever thought of having one of your posters made into a sheetcake for the meet it's for? I know they can print images on cakes, after all, and your posters are about the right size. :D

Five days to go! I have to remember to buy cream cheese so I can make the cheesecake on Friday! :)

No, Aurora, I was using Smooth-on's Oomoo 30. I either didn't have the right temperature outside by the time I poured, or didn't mix it correctly. The pink part was a bit stiff, so I'm not sure if it was too close to expiration, maybe? Anyway, I bought some more and will try again tomorrow; the weather is supposed to be in the 70's again. :awake:

I've never used oomoo- it sounds gooey!

I've had a couple questions, so I'll answer them here- we are not having the dice game, but you should feel free to bring prizes, wrapped or unwrapped. Mine are unwrapped. There are 16 eggs with "you win a prize!" messages in them, plus a couple of games. We can just draw names for extra prizes, or save them for the next meet.

Also, we've gotten a lot of rain. The road to my house is gravel, which means right now it's mud. If it doesn't downpour between now and the meet, there is no problem. But if you are trying to decide whether to drive your sports car or your SUV, I'd say to spend the extra money on gas!

Less than a week! Woohoo!

 Yeah, Blackfrost warned me about the road. I''ll be using mom's minivan, and bought a bag of river rock to use as pothole filler, just in case we need it! ;) Plan to also bring the shovel we use for if Boris gets stuck in snow, also as a just-in-case.

My molds turned out this second time! I still need to make the other half of the one, though, so might be bringing mom's space heater downstairs for a bit - it's been trying to rain.

Blackfrost came through on the worst possible day. It was graded since then, and though it's not pretty, it's easier. The rain makes the divots in my driveway look worse, though, so I'm hoping for a few dry days! And I'm glad the project worked- you should at least bring the half that you have! I'm terribly curious now!

You can look through our wedding album, and then you can "write it off" as a research project! You should definitely come, though there may not be as many baby animals as promised. There will still be chickens, though, and they love being chased and caught and snuggled! Maybe not the roosters or the turkey- they have pokey bits and big scary wings. Stick to the hens. They love a good snuggle!

Oh, and ponies! Lots of ponies!

Hello again! Any idea as to what the weather's going to be like? I'm still undecided as to what my wardrobe is going to look like.

Looks like 70 degrees and partly cloudy. I can deal with that! I can deal with light showers, too, but it's more fun to hunt eggs when it's dry. I've got space inside for everyone's tables, though it might be a little crowded if everyone brings lots of stuff- we'll make it work!

Got the paint for the signs today- look for purple/lavender. It was in the free paint pile at the recycle center!

One more thing- I've mentioned that I live in the land of no internet, and I do most of my ponying at work. This is my last real day at work this week, so if you've got something really important, you may want to text me- phone number is in the message I sent out. Otherwise, I'll try to peek on Friday night--- I think I'm just trying to say that you may be on your own a little here. Get to meet, I'll feed you and warm you with pony blankets!

SEE YOU SATURDAY!!!

Okay, went to make the cheesecake - and I'm out of sugar. There is some Splenda for moms coffee, but barely half a cup, and the recipe calls for three times that. What? Why am I out of SUGAR or all things?!? *grumphs* Guess that's what I get for assuming we had one of the most commonly called for baking ingredients - and shows how long it's been since I baked anything! I guess I'll pick up some cookies tomorrow. :C Is this the second, or third time I've been denied making a cheesecake for one of these meets? :sad: At least the cats are enjoying the cream cheese wrappers... I should probably take those away from them... >_>;

Meanwhile, was able to play with molds, though not nearly as much as I wanted. Will bring what I was able to make - wasn't able to make what I wanted most, though. You'll see tomorrow. :D Also, guessing Aurora at least would like to see said molds, so might bring them along - and hope I don't disappoint someone who already IMd me about them. ;)

Hahaha! I forgot to take pictures, too! I'll see if Annie took any, though I didn't see her camera. Next time: "hire" a photographer!

Thank you EVERYONE for coming! I had so much fun, and you guys left the house so clean! After any family event, there's a solid day of cleaning up afterwards. I think you may have actually CLEANED something- did one of you wash my windows?

Eternia- who made your name tag again? I should have written it down, but I was a little distracted. And if you could remind me what you named Tootsie Swirl, that would be great- was it actually Tootsie Swirl?

Kazzy- after you left, I finally started to say your name the right way. Don't worry, I'll forget where to emphasize by the next meet. When you get a chance, could you remind me of which ponies you bought from me? I didn't write it down, and I want to know which direction they went. I've got all the Ponyvilles out on the table in the pony room now- Lincoln is having a great time moving tiny pieces as far from their intended playset as he can.

Gusty- I'm sorry I called you weak. I meant you were a weakness. Of mine.
Tex is wearing his bandanna, and he looks mighty handsome! Now to clear out the Nursery so I can get that bathtub in there! Ashley wants to know if you'd be willing to share your side dish recipe- she actually drooled while she was asking me! Mmmm!

Sapphire- I'm glad you could make it! I love my stickers, I already have an idea of what to use them for!

Scarlettkitty- the gray cat that you never got to see emerged after everyone had left. I don't even know where he was hiding. Bob was happy that you gave him some pets, though- or at least tried! I'm glad you're enjoying the stickers- and no, you don't need to return the ones you wandered off with! Sneaky devil!

Bianca- someone who believes me about the eggs! Finally! I hope all your new ponies are adjusting to their new home- and I hope you are adjusting to your new home too! Are you moved in yet? And no, the Tiramisu didn't make it the six days. It didn't even make it to Sunday. I'm not ashamed to say I sat down and drank... ate the whole thing. I want the recipe, but it seems dangerous if I know how to make something that deliciously combines liquor and cake.

Blackfrost and Mom- I'm so glad you could make it! I found those ponies you were hunting- I'll hold onto them until the next meet. They're not going anywhere! I found all three of the non-core 6 ponies- Buttons, Coco, and Starlight Glimmer. When are you hosting?

Nessa, PQ, Aquatic- we missed you. I hope you had a great weekend, though!

I'm already planning to host another meet sometime- I want to say in the fall, but there's a lot going on in the fall. It might just have to be next spring. Ashley and I have decided the host pony is going to be Discord- think I can turn all the trees in the grove upside down? That floating island is going to be tricky, too...

Thanks again for a fantastic day of pony goodness!

LOL Aurora!  My side dish was Suddenly Salad box mix (classic recipe), I think Kraft makes it, and then I added chicken to it.  Easy peasy and delish!  Thanks again Aurora!  What a blast :)
P.S.  I LOVE my internationals I bought from you, I probably should have gotten a few more!  Maybe next meet :)

Sweet, I'll let Ashley know. I've made those box mixes for pot-lucks, too, and everyone asks for the recipe. Kraft must be doing something right! I will probably be selling more internationals- I'm in a strange collecting place, stuck between the "gotta catch em all" philosophy that I had a few years ago and the "which ones do I actually love?" philosophy that I think I'm in right now. My biggest fear is regret. I have a long way to go on the path to enlightenment!

We got our pigs last Thursday, so if anyone needs a day to taunt some really unfortunately adorable pigglies, let me know.
