Hi all.
It's been a VERY long time since I've been an active member of this community. I used to be for MANY years until I had to sell my entire G1 collection of 400+ ponies for financial reasons.
I've decided I want to start collecting again from scratch. Only G1.
I wanted to know if any of you have had the same experience (i.e. starting over from scratch).

oh yeah... I've purged nearly the whole thing and started over twice...

I had ponies as a kid and my parents got rid of them all when I was 11 so I had to start all over again when I got back into them at 14

Kinda yes and no.
I collect more things then just ponies. So there's times where I sell off pretty much all of one collection.. then 10 year later, I want to collect again. So my collections are pretty fluid.
I doubt I'll want a large pony collection again, but hot dang, I loved buying large pony lots. :)

Not willingly. :pout: My parents decided I was too old for MLP at 12 and got rid of them. Started collecting again with G3, and I've been rebuilding my childhood collection, other G1s and other gens.

Not 100% all over, but I sold most of my childhood collection when I was a teen and kept only a few of my dearest ponies. Been rebuilding since a couple of years. As a child, I marked all my ponies like on the picture in my signature and have been hoping to find any of my original ones, but so far, no luck.

Yes! Sold it all to live on a sailboat for 4 years! Slowly chipping at the collection. It's fun going through the memories of how I got them before:)

Not at all! I sold once cuz I was immigrating to Canada and then again for money.

seems like lots of people do this; I can't tell you how many "I'm back in the hobby!" or "I want to buy back what I sold" posts I've seen over the years XD

It's sad that you had to let your collection go, but now you can have the fun of finding new ponies once more. Many people do start their collections again, good luck!

Yes you are. But we embrace the crazy and welcome it :D
I purged most of my collection ~ 10-15 years ago and have been rebuilding since.

I never started over from scratch but right now I'm selling off most of my collection. I just don't have the same excitement for collecting. I still love MLP but paying off debt is something I have be get serious about now.
I'm curious what brings collectors back? I'm hoping one day I'll feel like I felt 10 years ago when I started collecting.

I haven't done so. I don't think I could. Too much time and money invested. I can offer up to see if I have any ponies you're in search of...

I have! I had a collection of about 30 G1 ponies in 2013- early 2015, but sold them all after major life changes. Started collecting again late 2018 and now my collection is growing slowly but surely! You are definitely not crazy for wanting to start again, that can be really refreshing actually :) Welcome back!
