Title: Guardians of Harmony Rarity and Fluttershy - why not?
Post by: Zapper on August 05, 2017, 05:01:01 AM
https://data.mlpmerch.com/goh/all/

I noticed that the only Fluttershy in this line is SDCC exclusive with the Discord figurine, and that Rarity just doesn't appear at all. I don't understand why they want to still go with the Core Characters model, yet fail to even include all of their core characters in all of their lines. Why even have a Mane Six if it should be just Holy Three (Twilight, Pinkie & Rainbow Dash)?

I've been waiting, thinking they would just release Rarity and Fluttershy later in the line as part of a new wave, but they have yet again been skipped. Instead there are super minor characters like a random Shadowbolt and battle scenarios that never happened in the cartoon (tiny knight Spike against Queen Chrysalis with wheels on her hooves, lol).

There could be a Rarity with gems and a Diamond Dog, or a Fluttershy with her bear or another beast she can tame. A Fluttershy mold already exists, it's just super expensive and rare.
There are opportunities to have show action figures of them. Don't have a core if said core can't even be completed within one line. Don't force it with multiples and clones in one line but replace half of them with backgrounders and randos in another line.

Your thoughts? I know the Core Seven/Six models are not that popular on the Arena to begin with, but I'm of the opinion it should run through all types of toy if it has to exist at all. The Six are advertised as a team of friends that create magic, so stick to it.

And of course I am personally saddened that I can't buy an action figure of my favorite. Just like I couldn't buy a Funko Pop of her or a Nici plush. Hasbro just doesn't want my money :P

I was wondering why No Rarity. I actually want a Rarity in this line because I have a custom idea for her! But I would want a Rarity in the same style as the first wave of them and not the pirate theme (otherwise then I can't use her)

According to this they are on the way at least.

If that comes all true I hope they continue with regular Rarity and Shy. I'm glad to have them for the movie tie-in! And that hippogriff and Luna pack sounds interesting as well.

But my other point still stands that Hasbro's liscensing often leaving out Rarity, AJ or sometimes Fluttershy bothers me to no end. Good to see they are at least including them in their in-house stuff.

Slightly off topic, but hey! A Queen Novo that you don't have to buy a huge set for.  And another Hippogriff character :). I'm excited about those.  Though, I hope we get some brushable Hippogriffs and not just GoH ones.

Well this just goes to prove that Habro's not out to sell you any more mane 6 duplicates, Zapper.

Getting rid of fluttershy entirely would be a way to drive off at least a quarter of the bronies too.

I think either it's just that flutters n marshmallow arent combat specialists or maybe that their gohs are coming later.

I'm wondering if the Queen  Novo one is going to be like what they originally did for Celestia, Nighmare Moon, and Queen Chrysalis

Ooooh, I suppose that's a possibility, too!  *edit*. Hmm, looking at it again, it seems that those are usually labeled "fan series" as part of the name.  So possibly not.  Though that would be cool!

On topic, I can only speculate, but it seems that Rarity and FS are generally the most removed from engaging in violence.  Not that they don't on occasion when in the whole team needs to fight.  But Hasbro may think that those kids who are most drawn to those two are more likely to engage in other types of play ( fashion and care-giving) than the kind of very active play that the GoH are marketed for.

But they do. My complaint was that some lines have an army of repeats (like a ton of same pose Rarities) while other lines leave out 2-3 characters of the Six entirely. Mostly the lines they don't make in-house.

That sounds very likely. Allthough the inclusion of baby Spike in a fantasy setting that never happened just makes me think GoH is marketed towards boys and the old stereotypes are at play as per usual. Hasbro isn't that way with Transformers anymore. They created new female characters who are just as active as the male ones. But MLP needs to be split into passive and active?

I never saw Princess Celestia with a sword or Twilight shooting anything more than magic beams. She never attacked with weapons.

There are ways to make up scenarios for Rarity and Flutters outside of being pirates if they really want to sell them. And I bet lots of boys who love the characters will be happy, too.

I'm looking forward to that hippogriff the most now  Hope it's female and not a hunk of plastik like that other one.

Hands off the hippogriffs.  They're mine.

It's not so much passive or active being separate as jointed and not jointed.  Some people don't like the joints, and they are more expensive than the fixed-pose ponies.  Also they are coming out with more and more GoH ponies so we could still see Rarity and Flutters.

I don't know much about GOH bar what I see in stores, but I am sort of wondering where Applejack comes into this discussion, being that she hasn't been mentioned once in the thread...

Personally I am in favour of anything that doesn't include the mane six, and if they produce only a few of them in a set, great, but I don't do GOH because I like brushables. I would like brushables in action situations, that would be nice (like the power ponies, I suppose, only more so. We don't need more palaces, boutiques, sweet shops and weird pastel coloured transport vehicles ;)

I also think GOH is partly aimed towards boys but not that it's a gender divide. The ponies all appear in the same section of the toy store, at least they do here. I feel like Hasbro branched out their potential market by including these but there are probably as many girls as boys likely to be interested, just not necessarily the same ones as are attracted by some of the other lines.

AJ currently has one release in GoH and will also have a pirate release so she is not forgotten :)

While I'm incline to agree on that, I cannot forget the fact that FS turns into a Hulk (not physically except when it came to the power ponies) when something really upsets her xD

My guess is since there is going to be a Rarity with pirate gear... she was planned for a second wave but they had to move onto the Movie merch instead. I saw all these GOH figures (except for Shining armor) on clearance the other day and that was the thought that passed through my head. Rarity would have made me buy a set for sure.

Fluttershy and Rarity might not be suited for the whole battle theme. But I can picture them whoever as a mage, dancer or healer. More of a support type.
