Title: Tempest's Real Symbol?
Post by: Aurora on November 19, 2017, 08:13:15 PM
My son loves Tempest. He is enthralled by how she became bad, then good, and I know her song by heart. I want to sew him a plush of her for Christmas, but I would really like to know what her symbol is under that armor. My basic google search found nothing.

Help?

We don't know.

Dang! There was a rumor that the BAB toy had removeable armor, I was hoping it was more than a rumor! I suppose I could ask my son... he comes up with some good stuff!

Or leave it blank until we know.

Build a Bear's armour is only partially removable.  The under part is actually part of her "skin" so that it looks like she is wearing leotards with the Storm King's symbol.  Her actual mark is a mystery.  We don't even know for sure that she had it yet at the time when her horn was broken as far as I know.  If you assume that she did, you could take a clue from her real name.  There is a Fizzy pop in G3 with the same colors.  Her symbol is a soda float.  There is also g1 Sherbert who has similar coloring and has a bowl of ice cream for her symbol.

Oh, and edited to add that the Tempest toy from the TRU set has removable armor but she doesn't have a cutie mark underneath.

Same for the one from Kohls. No cutie mark :/

Being that she left town as a filly in the movie, perhaps she never gained one?

That would be interesting... unexpected, in that reality...

I always figured with the name "FizzlePop" and her ending scene it'd be fireworks like Sparkleworks' cutie mark. Although the no CM idea isn't bad too.

I like the idea of her being secretly blank

People either speculate that she has:

A. Never earned a real cutie mark
B. Has the same cutie mark as G3 Fizzy Pop

I prefer her being a blank flank

I've also heard people say the armor one is her real one

She's been reported as not have one. So given her name, best to go with a storm related symbol. A dark raincloud or violent winds perhaps. Or her real name,
Spoiler
Fizzlepop Berrytwist. Which would most likely be a soda and berry. If Hasbro could be bothered to make detailed symbols anymore.

The thing is is that is the Storm King's symbol.  It's his staff.  It's like a military insignia.  He and Grubber wear it also and I think it is on other things.  I seriously doubt it is also Tempest's cutie mark.

I dunno much about the whole lore behind 'em or anything about the movie, but I really like the idea of her just not having a symbol. I've always thought that'd be interesting.

Tons of ponies don't have a cutiemark they are called blank flanks you should watch the current show :p
Mostly though they are foals and later get their mark

Oh dear, what Tempest could have been if that unfortunate accident with the Ursa hadn't happened.

I think you misunderstood my post. I meant that it would be interesting to see an adult blank flank, thus my point...

And tbh I couldn't have any less interest in watching FiM, lol.

I love you guys! It makes me so happy that there are people taking this question seriously!
I have a really hard time reconciling Tempest, even if she hadn't been hurt, with the ice cream symbol. Her feelings are so strong, and though my feelings about ice cream are strong, i don't think it is quite the same...

To be honest, I really like the idea of her not having her cutie mark yet, because she hasn't found her true calling yet. Being an outsider in Equestria as a filly with no friends could have delayed her from discovering her true "career path". (Until the end of the movie, she's just a Storm King follower, and in the prequel comics, she's lost too.)

Maybe her cutie mark will be pop rocks candy and maybe she's meant to open up an ice cream shop in Ponyville one day, where she decorates floats with pop rock candy before giving her customers a great fireworks show. Just a thought. :P

*nods*. I also think it would be interesting to see an adult blank flank trying to find her true purpose.  She was so focused on what she had lost  that she couldn't see what she had.

What if she even lost her cutie mark?  Could that happen?  Like if she had an ice cream cutie mark before the accident but as she descended into depression and bitterness, it went away.  Maybe when she made the decision to leave Equestria.  I kind of like how the idea could correspond with real life situations.  Like an athlete who is seriously hurt so that they can't do their sport anymore so they have to find a new purpose for themselves.

I wish she had a symbol. They're what make mlp "mlp" to me. So far the brushables I saw on ebay are blank under the armor so now to me it's confirmed I guess. I think I might not buy her because of it. The idea of an adult blank flank is a bit intriguing but I can't help but just think it's Hasbro being lazy.
Same with the sea ponies. I would probably like them if they had marks... but without, no.

Seaponies never had marks though even back in g1. Plus spoilers the plot says it doesn't make sense

Oh, it could definitly still be Hasbro being lazy.  They haven't definitively said that she doesn't have one.

This is not entirely true.  There is a group of sea ponies that have a necklace like mark around their necks. They were each different.  They are called the Sea Sparkle Baby Sea ponies.  So, I feel this is a type of symbol for them in a way since each one is different for each sea pony.

I was never much a fan of G1 seaponies either  ^^; plus
Spoiler
hippogriffs are half pony so they should still have marks right? :P

If later it comes out Tempest does have a mark it'll be really odd her toy not having it. Maybe I was hoping for a reveal like when we learned of Photo Finish's mark from her toy. I'm still annoyed by Mane-iac, lol.

Well, I started my plush. I will post pictures when it is ready. I am leaving her blank, and if my son wants to add a symbol, we can do that later. I've never made clothes for a plush before, should be an adventure!
Thank you all for your help! I love watching this conversation evolve!

Oh, I definitely think her lack of symbol is just Hasbro being lazy :p The bat pony figure lacks a symbol too and he has armour that covers his flanks. If it turns out Tempest really doesn't have a symbol (story-wise, I mean) then I think it'll probably just be a happy coincidence that her toy is blank, rather than something they planned. If that makes sense.

That's funny, earlier today I was looking at the toy of Skystar (in Hippogryph form) and Pinkie Pie and for some reason, when I saw Skystar didn't have any symbol on her flank, I put the box back on the shelf. I didn't think about it clearly until just now, but I think that is exactly the reason I didn't buy her. She just didn't really feel like a MLP toy without a cutie mark.

Well considering Breezies don't for whatever reason.
