for the past few days, i've been showing my boyfriend G1 cartoon stuff. i wanna show him more but i'm not sure which ones ^^
so far, i've shown him:
- rescue at midnight castle
- escape from catrina
- the movie
- the return of tambelon
- the golden horseshoes
you can recommend them on any value you want. think ones full of funny animation quirks/errors? i'd like to see :P or one you think is particularly good! (we were having fun with the animation. like what's up with all the ponies switching around in and out of jail in tambelon? :P)

Ooh I’m partial to Sonambula since it features the only animated portrayals of the big brothers :) And it was nice to have a full pony episode with a creepy premise sans Megan for once.
I also love the Ghost of Paradise Estate since it was the first episode I ever saw as a kid <3

"Somnambula" and "Bright Lights" are probably my favourites :) oooh and "The End of Flutter Valley"!!
Bright Lights has a lot of weird errors and stuff, too (including one of my favourite errors, a minor char who has a different character model in every scene) :B

Definitely 'crunch the rock dog.' It's by far my favourite episode(s) and my favourite pony, Windwhistler, has a star role in it. I also really like 'Fugitive flowers' and 'the magic coins.'
I hope your boyfriend will like these too.

thanks for the suggestions! actually, out of all the suggestions, i've only seen two of them as a kid (ghost of paradise estate and crunch the rockdog) and i've watched some of the others at some point but i don't remember them well.
i'll add them to our (non existent) watch list!

I agree with watching Bright Lights for the quirk factor. Who can forget six-legged Lofty, the mouse with the apparently extensive wardrobe, the goofy villain song... and of course, the wild premise of "Horse Michael Jackson is under the service of a doofy looking evil wizard who eats shadows for power".
As for straightforward episodes, Return of Tambelon is just full of really cool concepts. Feel free to tweak ideas for your next D&D campaign.

"The Glass Princess" is one of my favorites but it's one of those you either love it or you don't episodes. I think everyone should watch at least once just for the pony wash scene.
I also like "The Prince and the Ponies" It has a weird animation error where one of the baby ponies' eyes is in the wrong place for a few frames.

Somnambula was the first I thought of as well (outside the ones on your list).
Revolt of PE is the one that sticks with me from my childhood but I only had four episodes xD.
And Bright Lights.
That way you have youth-stealing, soul (shadow) stealing and rogue furniture kicking the ponies out of their home, all in one nice neat hour long viewing session :)
