Title: My Pretty Pony?
Post by: Mana Minori on May 04, 2020, 02:03:15 PM
I’m curious to know if anyone has any idea what month this toy was released, back when it came out.

And as for a discussion topic- since MPP wasn’t named like the g1 ponies it inspired, what sort of name (and character backcard story, for bonus cookies) would you give to the one pony that started it all, the My Pretty Pony?

I would personally probably name her “Bonus Beauty”. The reason being was that Bonnie Zacherle had pitched the pony idea to Hasbro. And Bonnie’s name also means “beautiful”  in Scottich, which is also derived from the Latin word for “bonus”; “bona”.

I'd call her TJ, after Megan's pony in RaMC (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/T.J.). I've always thought TJ was intentionally patterned after MPP, as a little in-joke.

Aren't there two MPPs - the brown one and the pink one?

And I call mine Big Narf.

I call mine Big Narf.

:lmao: that's the best one!

I have the brown one, I call her Buttercup. :) Just a simple "real pony" name.

I do wish they would have released an official pony of TJ, just have her be the -only- natural looking pony. If only!

I have the brown one, I called her Coco.

And I don't know about the US, but in the UK she's in the 1982 Autumn/Winter Argos, so probably around October 82 here. The UK ran about 6 months to a year behind the US on most lines that we shared, so maybe around Christmas 1981 or early 1982 over there? (That's just a guess though, I haven't got any US catalogues with her in).

'81 for US.

Does anyone have the original Beautiful Baby pony that came with her? I'd be super curious to know if they're much different from MLP. Flat foot moulds, maybe? Maybe something that predates that? It was essentially Butterscotch that came with Ole Brownie, did the pink one ever have a baby?

Kinda makes Butterscotch the very first MLP, before even the original 6!

That's ultimately what I feel as well, like TJ was supposed to represent My Pretty Pony or be a reference or something (could be an in-joke like you said.)

I love the thought put into this.  :good:

I have the pink one with heart symbols, so I've always called her My Pretty Pony Peachy...but the TJ angle is much more creative! I love that^.^

......!!!!!! “Brownie” is actually an adorable name for the first MPP!!! Brownie, and the later release, her beautiful baby, Butterscotch! It makes for a cute “sweets” named pony pairing, in fact! I love it!

Also, yes, Butterscotch is the true OG of the MLP’s.
