Title: Characters / designs for next Transformers cartoon (Cyberverse) revealed
Post by: LadyMoondancer on July 03, 2018, 07:50:11 PM
I was just on Hasbro's website and they have finally listed the main cast of the upcoming TF cartoon, which I believe is set to debut later in 2018.

https://transformers.hasbro.com/en-us/brands/cyberverse

I wasn't a big fan of the previous cartoon (Robots in Disguise) but I'm digging the art style and the profiles of these guys.  They are very G1 inspired but also have some newer / not commonly used characters to keep things interesting.

Slipstream and Acid Storm omg!

Ok, I'm cool. I love that they kinda look like TF Animated meets G1. I hope there will be a Slipstream toy! I gave an arm and a leg to get the Takara Slipstream that was a Windblade retool with a new head. Love her but kids should be able to find my fave in stores

What I liked about RID was Strongarm's design. The new girls in this show look like they will all be retools of Windblade. And Windblade basically looks like a gynoid with wings.
At the very least Windy should be bigger. I loved the crazy size differences in TFA. Starscream making Optimus look small and all. It was so pleasing to have very little size shifting. Man, I miss TFA.

I could be wrong, but I think Slipstream at least is in the same character design (and therefore toy mold maybe?) as Thundercracker and Acid Storm.  (Starscream has his own unique design.)

They are posed differently but it doesn't look like Slipstream has skinnier limbs than the other two or anything.  I thought that was pretty cool.  Interesting that Acid Storm is there instead of Skywarp.  Maybe they felt they had enough purple already?

Yeah, I didn't like the RID cartoon much but I did appreciate them giving us a female Transformer that wasn't in 'the slim build'.  (Although not so fond of her 'lipstick', ha ha ha.)

TFA was sooo good.  I really feel that was the best portrayal of Optimus Prime, because for once we got to see him on a hero's journey, from lowly repair bot to worthy leader, instead of him immediately being introduced as "This is Optimus Prime, THE BEST AUTOBOT OF ALL TIME."  If only TFA had gotten that final season!!  If only!

I'm digging the Cyberverse designs too.  Bumblebee in particular looks very cute compared to his last incarnation.  I did not like the RID aesthetic.

Ah you're right. So hopefully she'll be a big girl!
I still get to complain about girly retools because all girls have the same oval head with pointy chin and lipstick. I don't complain about seeker recolors because they have always been that way. But girl bots shouldn't always look like G1 Arcee, like a woman wearing a robot costume. I just don't buy a car turning into an hourglass shaped hottie

They need to bring back lips for the guys! Another thing that made TFA Optimus great, ha!

I like these designs just fine, but that's about as excited as I feel for this cartoon. Only just fine. Not super excited, but I don't have any fear that it'll be bad either. It sort of looks like G1, TFA and Rescue Bots were thrown in a blender. I'm happy to see Slipstream.

I enjoyed the previous RID show but I stopped watching after season 3. (Apparently there were more seasons than that?) I don't think this show will hold my interest any more than RID did, but I'm happy it exists. For me, TF Prime will always be the best cartoon so far, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. TFA was also very good.

Oh, and I'm curious what they'll do with Grimlock. Do you think he'll do his standard "ME GRIMLOCK" speech or do you think he'll be like the more articulate RID Grimlock?

I think he'll be more like G1. They  released a recolored version of RID Grimlock because fans hated the green. I thought RID Grim was really cute, tho! I get tired of the caveman talk.

I hope the Micromachine guy will voice Blurr again

Here's Grimlock's profile from the website:

So it sounds to me like he is almost in the mold of The Incredible Hulk . . . I think it's an interesting idea.

Anyone reading the IDW comics?  I am really sad they are rebooting their universe.  I am hoping so hard the reboot will be good, but I'm apprehensive.  Mostly because they have had so many shoe-horned in crossovers lately.  G.I. Joe! Rom the space knight! Visionaries!  It really annoys me and it makes for awkward story-telling.

Yeah, I agree that it's annoying when all the female TFs are stick-thin.  And also short, have you noticed that?  They're always short.

@Stellaluna  I love Transformers Prime, it's my favorite.  <3

@Zapper YES, TFA Optimus' luscious lips!

@Zapper - That would be so cool if they got John Moschitta for Blurr! He's a legend as far as commercials and voicework goes. And his story of how he picked up his special talent is quite interesting. I had the luck of meeting him at Botcon. He ran into my friend and me in the lobby and complimented the Tailgate costume we made. Also we talked about how neither one of us has figured out how to use smartphones yet. Super nice fella.

@LadyMoondancer - A Hulk complex for Grimlock would be a refreshing take, actually! I liked green RID Grimlock's character quite a bit, but I also understand fans wanting the original caveman voice. Doing two voices depending on altmode would be pretty cool.
And yeah, I've been reading the IDW comics for a while now. I still have some catching up to do with ex-RID and Till All Are One and there's a few mini-series I haven't read yet but for the most part I'm up to date with Lost Light. I'm actually glad they're starting fresh with the comics. I've felt for a while the both of the main titles have been suffering from serious season rot. (That's what it's called, yes? I've heard the term used for later Friendship Is Magic episodes and I can definitely see it here, too.)

That's why Windblade's size annoys me. She is a jet! There is no need for sexual dimorphism in a species that has no sex. And it's simply weird when a car guy is bigger than a jet lady. It's like the designers have Napoleon complex.

Whining about TFA again... I loved how the Cons had all those flyers because it made them look imposing. Megatron rightfully dwarved Optimus and it made him look more scary that way.

Another wish of mine: give Soundwave back his minions. I don't want a single Laserbeak drone, I want the brats and the cat. They don't have to be cassettes.

Absolutely!  Rumble!  Frenzy!  (Rumbleisblue.)  Buzzsaw I guess!  (Sorry buddy, you were just never around much.)  RAVAGE!

And the TFA Cons were HUGE compared to the Autobots.  Starscream alone almost took out the team at one point.  It was great.

RID Grimlock seemed to me like a real wasted opportunity.  The backstory was: originally a Decepticon.  And I thought they were going to explore that at some point (like with Beast Wars Dinobot, another dinosaur side-switcher) but they never did.  Like, why even give him that backstory then?  Why not start him out as an Autobot?  They could have at least shown us how / why he became a Decepticon in a flashback.

John Moschitta for Blurr, yeeeessss, that would be awesome.

I'm just gonna post all the rest of the profiles for anyone who hasn't seen them yet.

I agree that sexual dimorphism in Transformers is silly.  There should be girls (because otherwise the implications is "boys are natural, girls are weird"--as the majority of Transformers are always going to be coded as male, like this is not an army of R2D2's here, they have male voices and junk)--but let some of them be tall and buff.  And let some of the dudes be slender and small.  I would love to see Rung on the cartoon someday.  Or a cartoon centered around the Lost Light in general.

The Autobots:

So we get some interesting tidbits from these:

* Optimus and Megatron used to be friends.

* Thundercracker's feelings of air superiority are lifted straight from his G1 backcard, which makes me wonder if they will use THE REST of his backcard personality?  Dun dun DUN!

* Instead of three Seekers including Starscream, we get Starscream + three other Seekers.

* HOT ROD!  It's been a while since we saw him as a major character in a cartoon.  I think it's nu Bumblebee's younger, more bubbly personality that makes him once again possible as the hot-headed youngster.

I wonder why they cut out Skywarp. Maybe because he's too stupid
Still I am happy with the seekers because they all seem like characters who would give Starscream the finger if he got too bossy and that's always fun.

I think a "problem" with RID was that it was supposed to be for younger boys. Younger than Prime audience but older than Rescue Bots audience. So it never got too deep into the backstories and focused more on villain of the week and powering up with new toys.
I mean, I liked it for what it was. But it kinda went out like a fart and I will never be a fan of this shared universe stuff.
Nobody can tell me the wholesome cuties in Rescue Bots are the same as the crawling-in-my-skin Autobots in Prime.

I hope this series doesn't have humans. And if so, there should be a single human protagonist who shows them how to behave on Earth. Not one more. Not a trio of annoying teens like in Prime. Really, the only humans I can stand are the hero family in Rescue Bots. Because they are gosh darn adorable.
Title: Re: Characters / designs for next Transformers cartoon (Cyberverse) revealed
Post by: LadyMoondancer on July 08, 2018, 10:41:07 AM
I am hoping Bumblebee himself will fulfill the role of "the kid who needs things explained to him."  The basic premise of the series is "Bumblebee has lost his memory, Windblade and the others have to help him get it back."  It sounds like there will be flashbacks involved, which makes me hope we might see some pre-war Cybertron.

I too hope so so soooo hard that there are no humans, or at least minimal humans.  I liked the Prime kids all right but it's not like I NEEDED them to be there, and I just hated Russell and Denny.  Sorry to any fans of them.  But I found them annoying and their "ho ho ho, I'm a ten year old DISGUISING myself by putting on a FAKE BEARD" just killed me.

I do love the family in Rescue Bots. That show is pure gold.

Edit:  Like MLP Tales and Steven Universe, each show segment will be 11 minutes.  Two segments in each half-hour show.

I'm a little disappointed in the runtime but that's how so many cartoons are nowadays. Gotta cram in as many series into a day's program as possible so let's half the minutes and have 3 commercial breaks. Bah.

It also occurred to me these bots have only three fingers like some old toon. I think that's a new thing? Did we ever see TFs with only three fingers? They always had four like a human.
Title: Re: Characters / designs for next Transformers cartoon (Cyberverse) revealed
Post by: LadyMoondancer on July 08, 2018, 10:59:44 AM
I noticed the three fingers as well!

Some of the Transformers Prime bots had three fingers (plus thumb), some had four fingers.  But that show had pretty individualistic designs for the bots.  Like, everybody had different eye styles, different hand styles, etc.  I do miss that diversity but I'm sure it was harder to animate than having something consistent.

I'm not sure about other shows . . . I think G1 (Sunbow) had four fingers.

Edit: Gravity Falls characters mostly have three fingers, which is pretty funny considering a major plot point was "whooo was the six-fingered man?"  (I believe Uncle Stan does have four fingers, though.  But Mabel and Dipper don't.)

The run time is actually the same on a 'regular' half hour show or a 'segmented' show.  A half hour show has 22 minutes of programming either way, and 8 minutes of commercials.

Not all female tfs look thin and girly. RiD15 had diverse character models. Strong Arm is traditionally blocky. Then there was Zizza the bee, Filch the Raven, General Glowstrike who was an anthro firefly. I think there was a fire-lizard?  Outside of that show Strika is pretty bulky.

Shadow Striker is freaking cool! I've been looking for a Prowl and Thundercracker. I don't like Wheeljack because I haaaate space-wizard robo-beards. Optimus looks like he's doing squats. Make toys of everyone here Hasbro!

Yeah, when I first saw Wheeljack I was like "Uhhhhh."  LOL.  (Hee hee, "space wizard robo beards."  It's true though.  LOOKIN AT YOU ALPHA TRION.)

That's true, RID did have more diversity than usual for its female bots.  I really wish they'd made a toy of Glowstrike, she had a great design.

Alpha Trion is the reason I coined that phrase. XD

I do too. Her and Filch. What a shame Filch was a two-word gag character considering ravens are so intelligent. It was like she was an obsessive pokemon enthusiast, searching for shinies during a 3 day binge. :snicker:

Wheeljack was given a handlebar "beard" instead of his "mask" in TFA but this new beard design is overkill because there are random bits in it.
I love how they just gave Shockwave a mini shockwave face on his head. Now he's got two eyes. His description reminds me of Beast Wars Tarantulas

Uhuh. Tbh the toys don't look quality to me but I can always change my mind when I see them irl.
I only got Strongarm from the RID line and girl didn't even have hands.

I am in full support of Shocky being merged with Tarantulas so they really should have given him more legs instead of making him a tripod. Give me a gun spider!
What do you think the new chick turns into? My money is on helicopter.
And what will Megatron become? I am in favor of a tank. Because of his arm cannon. Soundwave could become a military vehicle. Or maybe a surveillance truck?

Post Merge: July 10, 2018, 03:47:39 AM

Yanno, I still want them to do an ordinary small plane again. I always hated Powerglide as a character but I like the idea of a simple little plane that can land on water. Or even a sail plane that needs another character to lift them up. Like a couple or siblings who depend on each other in alt mode. But I guess that won't sell  :lol
Or bring back Tracks and his ridiculous flying car mode! He was like a James Bond car. I also wish the bots would tune themselves. We got a bit of that with Knock Out and Sideswipe that would have some decals and be vain but I want a bot who just constantly tries to get updates and changes looks every few weeks.
They could sell the same character in 20 repaints and it would make sense :P

I watched some toy review videos and the toys don't look great to me either.  (I miss the TFP line . . .)  Shockwave is definitely my favorite of the ones I've seen.

Oh wow, a sail plane would be great!

I think Shadow Striker turns into a plane or heli with those vertical take-off things, or else . . . a car??  Like maybe those things on her back are wheels?

I think I saw Megatron-as-tank pictures but I'm not positive.

They could bring back Makeshift and have him change constantly.  "Hi gang!  This week I'm a limo." :P

They had so many great characters during all those years they should bring back. I'm not mad they use G1 Prowl again even tho I never cared for him. Chase and Strongarm are way more entertaining stick-in-the-mud cops. But I like the old design.

So now I want to see more older characters. Like Skyfire. I want his drama to come back. I always liked that little bit of continuity the G1 cartoon had. Mostly with Skyfire being Starscream's ex-friend and the backstory on Cybertron with Elita and Optimus/Orion.
I also wish the Insecticons would come back. I just loved it when Megatron got crap from other Decepticons  This show is more lighthearted so there should be shenanigans.

I think Hasbro's cheapness already started with TFP. Some toys looked great and others were second thought. I have Breakdown (painfully imported from Japan), the Chromia retool of Arcee and Airachnid. Airachnid is like a Happy Meal toy. I love her but only so because she wad my fave on the show. She is extremely limited and everything about her screams second rate.

Lots of people hated the style but the bulk of my old collection was TFA because the designs looked so close to the cartoon and worked! It was so cool to have them and they were cheap to get. I got my TFA Jazz for 10 bucks back then but for my Airachnid I had to shell out 20. And she had way worse engineering and almost no paint apps.

I stopped collecting TF a while ago. I still have about 20 I couldn't let go off and I buy a fembot every few years because the good designs are sparse and expensive. The new Moonracer tempted me big time so I got her overpriced and I was sad to see how much kibble she had.
Long story short, I am not exactly excited about TF toys in general. I just want to see older characters.

Useless fact, my first ever TF was Bumblebee from the WFC game and my second was TFA Blurr and they remain my favorites to this day because of their Tron wheels ^.^
Title: Re: Characters / designs for next Transformers cartoon (Cyberverse) revealed

Airachnid had a toy terrible design and Knock Out has a hollow back (which kills me because he's my favorite), but I liked most of the TFP toys and felt they were good quality.

TFA was the best for having toys that looked 100% awesome in both robot and vehicle mode.  That said, I got the deluxe TFA Bumblebee toy and it was nearly impossible to transform into vehicle mode.  Looked great once I finally got there, but I can't imagine a child actually being able to accomplish it.  I don't know if I got a dud Bumblebee or if they were all like that.

My first ever Transformer was Beast Wars Ramulus, who I bought because I thought he vaguely resembled Tirak, lol.  I wanted G1 toys as a kid but my parents wouldn't buy them for me.

Soundwave is my favorite Con an has been since I was a kid. There's just something incredibly creepy about who he is coupled with how mundane his alt mode could be.

I like Soundwave, too! I think part of it is his creepy voice and relative intelligence. He stood out in G1 where most cons were stupidheads/desperate like Shockwave

My fave Autobot was always Hound which... unpopular opinion. I don't know anyone who gave a crap about him because he got so quickly replaced by Bumblebee. I thought it was cute that he was a military jeep but his character was the opposite. Now he always gets portrayed like Kup and I hate it so muchhhh. They killed him.

I have the Hound that came with Ravage. Either Generations or Henkei Henkei, I forgot. He is so chubby and I love him. I can't sell him.

The vibe I'm getting from the vehicle modes is almost a "G1 post-movie" feel where these are supposed to be their original Cybertronian vehicle forms rather than being scanned on Earth.  Or else maybe they are Earth vehicles but the show is set in the future?  ("It is the Year 2005 . . . Oh wait . . . no . . .")

I know, right?  My bank account is the real victim in the Transformers' war.

Hasbro revealed the new theme song / intro and a short clip from an episode at SDCC!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pnyma2p-Ec

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBwkFg9mbGU

Spoilers from clip:

Spoiler
I am sooo happy they went with the "Megatron and Optimus used to be friends" origin story.  I've always felt Megatron starting off good and becoming corrupted was more interesting than him just being another warlord who always wanted to rule the world.

It sounds like Megatron started off as a gladiator (he says "I used to fight in front of you, now I will fight for you").

Ratchet looks so SASSY in the background, LOL!

I love Starscream's face design.

The ending part with Bumblebee cheering, "WOOO, MEGATRON!" slays me.  I'm just sitting here imagining Windblade's face.  "We've got a long way to go . . ."

I hope this show has TONS of flashbacks to Cybertron.

The animation is by Boulder Media, which is an Irish company I believe.  I like it better than RID2015, which was animated by Polygon Pictures.

Its not fair! I still have Moonracer and the PotP Dinobots to get.

I need Cyberverse Slipstream, Shockwave, , Prowl Shadowstriker and a couple Seekers for customs.

Plus there's this other new line coming out with the most gorgeous Sideswipe I've ever seen. He looks like he'd gel perfectly with my CW Sunstreaker.

So apparently Travis Knight announced at SDCC that the jet in the Bumblebee movie is not Starscream but . . . Blitzwing?!

I gotta be honest, I am so disappointed.  Why make him look so much like Starscream if he's not Starscream?  Thinking I might skip the movie.

I was hoping for 2Dish animation. They look like TF Cybertron grade PC game characters -_-

The 2D character designs looked so good and slick and now these will all move the same and there won't be much squash and stretch. This is a downgrade, imo. Good thing all three girls are getting figures, tho!

PS: in that clip all Cybertronians are the same character model except for the named characters. They are not even different colors. I hope there will be a good explanation for this. Like troopers made from the same protoform or whatever. Because Cybertron is supposed to be full of different bots and not just a red and blue clone army. The heck?

Eh, he's Starscream. Maybe Blitzwing in name only,I don't care. Because the other Bayverse Starscream looked like a chicken and did not try to mess with Megatron even once. He might as well have been Starscream in name only.

I hope you did not watch the other Bayfilms and now that one thing is not right you plan to boycott. Because this time we might actually get something that is closer to Transformers G1 and not "give me your face, b****!!! Here is 3 hours of murder".

I am still hopeful. The dude looks like Screamy, so to me he's already Screamy.

I didn't watch any of the Bay films . . . not the first one because the robots were ugly, and not the ones after because after that I knew what to expect, lol.  I watched Youtube reviews of most of them and, yeeeeah, that Dorito design for Starscream was terrible, but what was worse was he didn't even backstab Megatron?  Seriously?  That is THE ONE TRAIT Starscream is consistently known for, even the 'noble' Armada version.

I have been on the fence about watching the new movie because the robot faces are STILL ugly.  This has pushed me farther towards the 'not watching it' side.  To me, not having him named 'Starscream' means . . . not Starscream. Like, I get the economic argument.  But every time I see Blitzwing it's going to take me out of the movie and make me feel sad about 'what could have been.'   It's funny because usually I have a strict rule about never watching trailers.  I sure wish I'd never watched this one!  But I did, I got invested, and now I'm feeling bummed before the movie even comes out.  It may not feel fair or logical that one trailer and one little name change could make that much of a difference.  All I can say is . . . it doesn't matter if it's fair or logical, it's how I'm feeling.

If it turns out Blitzwing has a screechy voice and has a lot of lines about "Megatron is a fool! I will be the TRUE LEADER of the Decepticons!"  then I will watch it.  If he doesn't but the movie is otherwise good then I might watch it.  Definitely no longer planning on seeing it on opening night.  I will let my real life TF loving friends see it first and see what they say.
Title: Re: Characters / designs for next Transformers cartoon (Cyberverse) revealed

None of these movies get my money  but I watched them all illegally to form an opinion.

And I will only go pay for this if reviews say the teen girl is not sexualized and the insane violence and bitterness towards the TF franchise got toned down.

The selling points so far for me are:
-Bee is cute and is a VW Käfer. Not a New Beetle, not a random compact car, not a freaking Camaro but his original alt!

-A girl and her alien friend. I love these kinds of stories because that's what I wanted as a child, to have my own TF or E.T.

-That Seeker that may or may not be Starscream because I'm hoping for the real Scream Shady to please stand up. As I told you, the Bay Screamer does not question Megatron and that's not funny to me. He was a random grunt in the first one, in the other ones he was a suck-up and got abused by Megs for no reason. He took over when Megs was out but the moment he came back Starscream was like "ohhh so great you are back let me suck your toes great leader" and there was nothing backstabbing about it.
Bay and his writers just hated the original Starscream and the changes happened because of fan demand. In the first one Starscream didn't even have a screechy voice. So if the Bayverse now has a Starscream that is called Blitzwing I will suck it up and let the other Bayverse Starscream stay dead (Sam kills him. SAM!). When he was about to become more like the Starscream we know Sam makes his head explode and he is gone.

Maybe the new one is a triple changer? That would explain the name more. I mean... I am completely disillusioned about the Bay stuff because my faves have already been replaced by Bay crap. Jazz was a dumb parody, Jetfire was an old fart (literally) and Hound was Kup if Kup was gross.

I won't even watch the Bay films illegally because I don't want that nonsense in my brain, LOL.

But despite never watching The Last Knight, I do watch Linday Ellis' and Andre the black nerd's review of it from time to time. Those two are hilarious. :P  Can't remember if I linked it before, but here's their review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72BRt-SbGwg&t=1580s

"Just like a million middle fingers raining down for two hours."

I will take the Girl and Alien Robot Friend over the Bay films 'plots' ANY day of the week, but at the same time it's not really a plot that excites me . . . just one that's acceptable.  The whole "how humans and alien robots CONNECT" has always been the most uninteresting part of the franchise to me.  Beast Wars was so refreshing to me because it was all about how the Transformers related to each other, not to humanity.  (I mean, humanity was a plot point because they helped the Autobots in the future, but it's not like the BW bots had a human buddy.)

I wish they would just make animated movie films for the Transformers, to be honest.  Because the only reason to do live action is so they can put human actors in there.  Which means the human element is always going to be a big plot point one way or another.  Like, they would never do a Lost Light movie unless they stuck a human on the ship.  (Pleeease don't.)

I don't think Bay ever liked or cared about any aspect of Transformers.  They are just a convenient vehicle (ho ho ho) to show off his true love: the military, big explosions, and Bud Light.

I honestly don't get Lindsay Ellis because she seems to be a TF fan and realizes the Bay films are horrible and crap on TF, but she still can enjoy them and fangirl them? I am all for enjoying movies that are "so bad it's good" but after 5 films there is a point reached where I am like "end this. Reboot this from scratch".

I am not hot on human/robot but I like it when the focus is on a girl who appreciates the TFs because that is where my self-insertion comes in. I could never relate to a bad person like Sam whose goal in life was to become famous and have a hot gf, not to actually bond with cool alien robots. They wrote him like he was ashamed of Bumblebee. It was tough to watch. Like a man kicking his dog.

I like NURiD15 Windblade too. This one has a marionette mouth that kinda creeps me out a little.

I think she just got blindsided, which can happen to anyone.

Thundercracker looks cool and seems like a total bamf. But him grunting like an angry gorilla is off putting. Hopefully he'll talk, and not just be dumb muscle.

The fight animation flows nicely

WOO!!  I just watched the first two episodes and I'm really digging this series.

Spoiler
I am surprised but very happy that they referenced Windblade being a city-speaker, which ties into her IDW comic book abilities.  (A cityspeaker is a bot who can communicate with metrotitans--which are the city-formers like Metroplex.  Their thoughts are so alien and complex that your average Cybertronian can't talk with them.)

Bumblebee's "talking through radio" thing . . . is still kind of annoying!  But overall I really enjoyed the episodes and at least he talks normally in his own head.  I don't know what it is about this version of Windblade, but I got invested in her as a character very quickly.  (And felt for her, having to deal with amnesiac Bumblebee, lol.)

My favorite moment was her saying, "I'll use this to do a cortical psychic patch!" and then pulling out WHATEVER THAT WAS.  LOL.

One thing I think the show does especially well is show how incredibly fast the jets are.  They just SCREAM across the screen.

I also noticed the jets (including Windblade) have a slightly higher pitched Transformation sound, like they are living at a slightly faster pace than car-bots.

I liked the memory scene best. :3 And the one where Bee talked to Starscream was funny. I like her City Speaker persona here too. Hope to see more of that.

It still looks very cheap to me animation-wise.
Spoiler
Windblade also still comes across as weak when Bumblebee needs to be strong. Just like TC whom BB is able to stop mid-punch. Bot, please.

I don't find the audio thing that annoying. It's handled better than the Bay version because now we actually have facial expressions to go along with it. The R2D2 beeping in TFP with other people having to awkwardly translate it annoyed me wayyy more. And at least Bee is able to speak normally in his mind.
He also looks really cute in his bikini armor. I had serious cute!BB withdrawal after that brotastic TFP dude.

So far not a lot to base an opinion on (save for the look which is a choice... the cheap Cybertronians who all look the same and the image of Earth that looked like a preschooler painted it... woof.)

The next episode is two weeks away so I watched again and I noticed the credits say "Nova Storm" and mention a female VA - we have a second girl seeker! That's neat. I am not familiar with her at all.

Also noticed that they just don't bother with a theme song anymore. That's sad. I will forever love Transformers EVO and the orchestral opening from TFP.

Btw, when I typed that TFP Bee's design was brotastic I meant to say RiD. I am getting confused with all those Bumblebees

Ooh Windy laid some sick burns on Slipstream. She is a sassy girl! XD

Who is that other Seeker with TC and Slipstream?

I really don't like the wings popping in and out. It annoys me. I hope this doesn't become a standard.

I really want to like this show, but aside from the character lineup I think it's just meh so far.

The power levels are seriously weird. The seekers are always just as strong or weak as the plot commands.
I also have some issues with the voice acting. I don't really care if Peter Cullen drags his butt into the studio or not because his voice has aged and some Optimi are just too young for him to do (TFA Optimus for example) but I do have issues with someone who does a Peter Cullen impression instead of making the character his own.
TFC Optimus sounds like an epic trailer voice, no offense.

I also feel like Windblade sounds stoic and monotone one scene and in the next scene she is a sassmaster.
It's nitpicky but I am basing this comparison on the comics and RiD, so I feel something about her characterization is off here.
Plus, I can't handle my favorite girl being outsnarked by an Autobot. Slipstream is the premium snarker, don't take that away from her.

It's hard when the only char I connect to is Bumblebee instead of my faves :P

I loved Rescue Bots. It was really cute and the fact it all took place on a technologically adcanced island was nice. It was aimed at very young children but it had more heart and soul than what is usually geared towards the older kids.

Blurr isn't his G1 self, either. Never was a fan of the IDW Blurr who's just an arrogant athlete. I am not a fan of the mash-up continuity/Evergreen design in general. If you make it look G1 then keep the G1 personalities.

And thanks for killing him so disgustingly and literally within the last seconds of the episode.

I don't like Optimus' voice either.  He's trying too hard to sound like Peter Cullen, and somehow it's especially weird for an Optimus Prime with lips.

Also, real Peter Cullen emoted when he was playing Optimus.  He could sound happy, angry, discouraged, or like he'd found "a booby trap that captures real boobies."  :P   The current Optimus sounds generically "epic".

The Cyberverse toys are hitting Target and Walmart.

I've bought Shockwave, Acid Storm and Slipstream.

Shockwave is fantastic! He's got so much personality, good articulation and is a good size.

I don't know how good Acid Storm is. My boyfriend is keeping him in the box for now.

Sadly, little Slipstream is pretty bad. Great colors, but she only half transforms, her wings constantly pop off and her calves are hollow.

I haven't seen the bigger CV TFs yet, so I dunno how they compare to the inbetween sized ones. Hopefully, they will make a nice inbetween sized Slipstream.

Slipstream's toy class is meant not to fully transform. It's a joke but they have done that before. When I saw she can only become a jet with feet I lost interest.

I have little Starscream, who also half-transforms.  Sooo lazy, Hasbro!  The larger toys do fully transform.

That said, I admit that I'm kind of addicted to making his wings spin around and around.  (But yeah, they pop off of Starscream a lot too.)

Did anyone else think that Cube was going to have a horrifying Functionist twist?  Like "the Cybertronians THOUGHT the cubes were powered by AI, but actually they were THE SPARKS OF POLITICAL DISSENTERS."   Hmm, might be time to write another fanfic . . .

So the wings of the little ones is a line wide issue then. Ugh.

Sounds like I hafta bust out the super glue. -_-

I thought the cube would be an important Cybertronian artifact of some sort. Guess not. XD

My problem is that with all that Bee/Windblade interaction I am starting to ship them... I partially blame the writers. Windblade is that cool upper class girl who laughs about Bee's dumb jokes and ditches the bully clique to hang with his dorky self. Their friendship is a romcom trope. "He makes me laugh!"

I will say tho... I think it's legit funny they had a "you are not like the other girls jets" in this episode. They really hammered that message home that Windblade was not like Starscream even tho she - gasp - can fly like him

"It is time, once again, to contend with racism"

What in the fresh hell is this?! Lmao!

Btw "groundpounder" is such a dirty word. Starscream is a potty mouth and I can't believe this show is for little boys. It's obviously for older women

Well said.

This looks neat and I like the premise though I think Optimus Prime is the coolest Transformer not Bumblebee like they say on the site lol

You know what I've noticed? There hasn't been a single human being shown in any episode. Just Little Bee Peep and his mountain goat. That's kinda awesome.

I saw in an earlier post that someone other than Peter Cullen is voicing Optimus? That is just wrong x.x

Aww the man's getting up there. Maybe he's trying to retire?

He only voiced Optimus Prime in G1, and in the live action movies.  :)

So, the Maccadam's episode.  First, REALLY happy to see Maccadams Old Oil House getting a spotlight.  Second,

Spoiler
Soundwave dancing, accompanied by two Seeker backup dancers, is everything I ever wanted from this world.

Also, Maccadam is apparently based on Alchemist Prime (one of the thirteen legendary Primes.).  From TFwiki:

"Student of the elemental structure of the natural world, aided in this by his Lenses, which allowed him to see further and deeper than anyone, in both material and spiritual senses; fond of the occasional tipple, with some claiming that he still walks Cybertron in the form of a humble bartender."

Really now? Its time to go watch soon methinks.

Here's a link to the episode on DailyMotion: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6vih1e

And here's a repeating gif of Soundwave dancing, LOL:  https://twitter.com/ssbSLJ/status/1052182685404332032

BTW, I went to TF Con in Chicago and it was a blast!  I'm also going to the Los Angeles TF Con in March 2019, so if you're going there drop me a line, it would be so fun to meet up!

I bought Space Case the gaudiest G2 jet in Chicago, a bunch of posters, a Starscream coaster, and I commissioned Casey Collins (one of the comic artists) to draw "Knock Out if he were a Seeker":

Soundwave is a pretty good dancer. Who knew?

Knockout looks amazing!

I liked Maccadam's. Always thought it was pronounced Mack adame? Like how'd you pronounce madame. Not like the Adams family's Scottish cousins. The bartender was cool. The bug eyes kinda creep me out though.

The space-chase reminded me of StarFox. What was with the giant ring anyway?

Soundwave dancing was entertaining.

Did humanity go extinct or something?.

Ratchet's voice is just awful! I could be wrong, but he sounds suspiciously like the guy who voices that little turd Mega Mini, from Mega Man Fully Charged.

What is with the bumblebee shaped mountain?

What is with the bumblebee shaped mountain?

Clearly Bee is being worshipped like the god he is XD
It would be funny if this show ended up like Beast Wars and it was revealed humanity is only at the caveman stage. That would explain the lack of people on planet Earth and the BB mountain deity  Someone somewhere is dancing around a fire and begging him for rain.

Shadowstriker's episode was the first one to make me feel something. In a better show with an actual storyline she would be a tragic figure and her relationship to Bee would get explored in more than just seven minutes.
What a waste.

Spoiler
She is essentially handicapped because her parts don't work properly. I wonder why she can't get an update or replacement parts. Maybe that's not possible in this series, which would raise the stakes a little.

What the heck was she trying to do to Optimus all spread out and chained. Tarantulas vibes.

Their feet are just comically big. So during the dancing and sitting at a table scenes I had to laugh.

XD That's pretty funny Zapper. Though I'm sure I saw an asphalt road in an earlier episode. Weirdness.

Wouldn't surprise me if ol Shocky was gonna experiment on poor ol' Prime.

IDW comic Lost Light just ended and crushed my soul. (They are getting ready to reboot the IDW universe.)

If anyone hasn't read them yet, I hiiiighly recommend them, they are just SO good.  The best characterization Transformers have ever had, and a spotlight on so many underused characters. I recommend starting with the "More Than Meets The Eye" series, that's what the series was called before it was renamed Lost Light.

I stopped watching. First time in forever I look forward to a TF movie instead of a show. Such a strange new feeling.
