Post by: Taffeta on September 06, 2017, 01:46:24 PM: This makes me happy in a ridiculous kind of way as I already don't have enough space for the ones I have and I made that worse last time I was home by picking up discounted articulated Lemon Zest and Sunny Flare for £6 each at Entertainer. But I like the EQ dolls. Even the unarticulated ones if they show up for cheap, they have such goofy faces and such pretty colours.

Also I am officially a fan of Sunset Shimmer. If I had space I would go after all the Sunset Shimmer dolls...as it is I couldn't leave a poor naked one behind when I went to a charity shop recently.

I hope there are some nice new adaptations from existing ponies or new characters.

And I hope they still have goofy faces.

Pfff, you and me both XD Somehow they just kind of grow on you and then the next thing you know suddenly they're all over the house...

I hope they don't change the faces too much, too. I love the fact that their faces aren't *exactly* like they are in the cartoons, I really hope they don't change them to be more "show accurate"..

Not least because she made me jump when I took her out of her bag and she spoke to me...she did that again recently when I tried to find her in my drawer - I touched her foot and she immediately went "Pinkie Pie!" in that overly enthusiastic way of hers.

Yes, Hasbro. More EQG dolls please. Preferably some articulated ones or ones that speak or sing nonsense. They're the best.

(And Sunset Shimmer. Of course).

I hope this too, because there's room for both in my opinion. I mean, we get away with brushables and blind bags, and GOH as well, so it makes sense to have minis and full scale dolls...doesn't it?

Wait, did I just say "makes sense"? Two words that don't often appear together in a sentence when talking about MLP...never mind ;)

Newsflash: You may have a zombiedoll in your midst. That's how I got over 100 EQGS. Cellyzombie ate my brains because she wanted friends and clothes. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

But yeah, please, please don't screw this up Hasbro - they could make a killing considering the dissatisfaction with the G2 Monster High and EAH.

(And yes, if they are better articulated, Cellyzombie's already been promised the first Rarity body we come across.)

Ooh! I'm happy they gave Rainbow Dash pants! The clothes in general look much nicer and more detailed than they used to! Their eyebrows seem a little thick though. :lol:

I do not like Pinkie Pie's outfit because the skirt is practically the same color as her hair. Rainbow Dash doesn't look as recognizable because her bangs have blue in them. And I don't understand the half black apple on Applejack's shirt. Plus, where is her hat? Please don't tell me her new cartoon design is without hat.

Haha, so all in all I'm only tempted to buy Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer. But only temptation, I probably will skip these.

I can't help but think there's something medically wrong with them when I look at them. It's just an uncomfortable balance of realism vs cartoon for me. Like Rainbow Dash suffocating and Rarity is a statue they're carrying around type thing. I'm hoping I will like them better in person or after seeing more pictures. The only one I like at all right now is Fluttershy but even she is rather off putting.

Fully agreed. They look so uncanny and ugly to me.
They do not remind me of MLP or even EQG. They look like random human dolls with weird skin colors.
I also dislike how they no longer have a cutie mark on their face or the fact they do not have wings. Again, they look as if they have hardly anything to do with MLP. : /

She reminds me of those infamous Belle dolls that stuck Emma Watson's face on a doll's head and body and ended up looking really constipated, except this one is way scarier.

Again, why do they ALL HAVE THE SAME EXPRESSION.

I was trying to think what doll series they resembled and you nailed it--very much like the Descendants series. Which is also a Hasbro toyline, so I guess that makes sense.

Their faces remind me of the characters from battle of the Planets / G-Force (early 80s cartoon)

Real Looking Lips with Voids on the Sides and Perky Toon Ears at the top. That's what makes them Uncanny Valley for me.

I mean come ON! I know Monster High has been revised recently but SHEESH at least Hasbro could have tried harder to mimic MHs beautiful x odd thing.. instead of american girl x pastel disease.

By the way and a smidge off topic but does anyone ever wonder where the human world's Sunset Shimmer is?

I think the head shape is much nicer, the old heads were too long and awkward with the ears jutting out the top. These heads are a natural round, which I like, but then the faces themselves are way too generic..

Thank you! Fluttershy is definitely the most unsettling of these by far to me. Agreed with the other comment that said they all look like they're making the Dreamworks face too.

Don't like these faces at all :( The clothes are better at least? I found the outfits on the old ones to be total eyesores most of the time. But that's not enough to get me to buy...I'll stick to the minis for sure.

They really should have given them the unique cartoon eyes instead of these samey doe eyes. They remove the personality.

RD is the worst. She looks like an RD cosplayer. There is nothing unique about her face.

I have wondered this for years. I have a couple of theories on it! But I suppose this wouldn't be the thread to discuss them in....

My opinion on the dolls is torn. I love the unique, cute clothes. I love the Sunset doll in general. Pinkie looks pretty cute, and Twilight isn't too bad. The others ... not sure what to think. I actually like the realistic route, and yet I don't like that most of the dolls have the same-ish expression. Although the old dolls often had the same expression too, but somehow it looks worse here.

After seeing the Instagram pics, Rarity looks a little better, Pinkie and Twilight still look good, Sunset looks a little more like she hasn't repented yet (but I guess she's just being Sunset), and Rainbow, Applejack, and Fluttershy still look terrible.

Facially, they lack a distinctive 'look' but the increase in quality is enough to make me overlook it, plus there's always repainting.

Looking at them again, I still can't place what is truly off putting to me.. It's just something about the faces lol

The EqG dolls with the molded tops were the very first ones (and some budget ones but I hardly count those).

It's a shame as when i saw the silhouette i was so excited hoping they were bringing back the large EqG dolls

@Crystal Sushi, I have Sunset Shimmer, Fluttershy, Lemon Zest and Sunny Flare who all have better articulation than that in the photos, because they have articulation at elbow and at knee. The new dolls do not have better articulation, there are just dolls in the old line who have none and those that have lots (and stages inbetween, like Rainbow Rocks Pinkie Pie who has bendable knees but her arms don't bend because one of them is her trigger for making sounds.)

If you scroll through my pictures, the last one is zoomed out, you see that the white hand is a real mannequin. For each doll they had a corresponding mannequin dressed up (which then young girls wore similar outfits fro the reveal). They were trying to push the fashion aspect because they contracted some famous LA fashion designer to do their designs and idea boards for the designers at hasbro to work from... They are supposed to be more fashion forward? They most definitely are compared to the first release they all had basically the same skirt and chunky shoes.

Post by: gabumon on September 13, 2017, 12:46:54 PM: ya know I keep looking at these, and even though I don't like them, I think the target demographic might like them. the faces are certainly friendly and kind looking. the first gen of the dolls had a somewhat 'baby' face and these look older, actually closer to the 7 and 8 yos they're targeting. they may do better this time around.
