Title: **RESPONSE FROM HASBRO*** My little Pony Favorite Collection - Dents?
Post by: Katai on August 05, 2012, 04:03:56 PM
I just bough the MLP favorite collection with nightmare moon and the such. And Nearly ALL the ponies have dents in the plastic from where the package was applying pressure..I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue?

****Pictures of Damage****

There are several folks that have posted their damage here. Here is what I encountered:

Sherry: Welcome to Hasbro CHAT, this is Sherry, how may I help you today?
File attachment upload has started.
Sherry: Hello Paula, how may I assist you today?

Paula Umana: I recently came across the My Little Pony Favorite colletion in Toys R Us and purchased it. When I got it home, I removed several ponies from the packaging and they all had serious dents and damage to the plastic.
Paula Umana: Those are only two of the ponies that have damage, the blue one being the worse and I didn't bother removing the last few as when I got to Dj Pon3 I noticed she also had issues. Every pony in that set was damaged.
Sherry: I do apologize for that experience.

Do you still have the packaging available?
Paula Umana: Yes. The damage seemed to be from the actual packaging, where pressure was applied to the ponies from the plastic
Sherry: I understand. I'd like to take care of this for you today.
Paula Umana: Thank you
Sherry: I need the item number which is usually located by the age grade on the packaging.

It is my pleasure.
Sherry: It can sometimes be 5-10 number long and may have a "/" in between the first 5 numbers and the last 5 numbers.
Paula Umana: Looking for it but don't see it.
Paula Umana: oh wait there it is
Paula Umana: A0634
Sherry: Perfect thank you so much. Please bear with me one moment.
Paula Umana: ok
Sherry: I appreciate your patience.

This is an actual exclusive to Toys-R-Us.

Although I can not replace the Ponies, I can send you a postage paid label to return them for a refund.
Paula Umana: Why cant the ponies be replaced?
Sherry: They are an exclusive only to Toys-R-Us.

They are not available separately.

Sherry: I can email the label to you.
Sherry: You would get it in a matter of minutes and it is postage paid.

As soon as we receive the set back, we'd refund you for the purchase price.
Paula Umana: My concern is that I'm going to purchase another set as I do want specific ones out of the set, and they're going to be damaged again. If I spend 40 dollars on the set I don't want to recieve damaged ponies. Is it an issue that the quality control can look into regarding the packaging? I've had other folks tell me that even their individual playful ponies had similar damage as well due to harder plastic in the packaging
Sherry: I can understand your concern and the fact you would like to complete your collection. I wish I had them available.

I am not sure if it is something that happened in shipment. I will certainly pass this on to our product team so they are well aware.
Sherry: I am not sure if you'd rather go to the store directly for a replacement.
Sherry: That way you can ensure you are getting the ones you want.
Paula Umana: Oh trust me its not shipment. All the points of dents in the plastic are from where the plastic packaging pressing intot he ponies. I don't know if TRU will take them back since they've been opened. I'll return them directly to you and wait till they're more avaliable. Hopefully that means you've fixed the dent problem in the batches that have it.
Sherry: When did you purchase the set?
Paula Umana: Yesterday
Sherry: Please provide the age and gender of the child/person using the toy.
Paula Umana: 25/female
Paula Umana: they were for display only
Sherry: Can you please verify your email and mailing addresses?
Paula Umana:  (Left blank. No stalkers please!)
Sherry: I will email that label at the close of the Chat. You should see it in approximately 5 minutes.

Do you still have the receipt?
Paula Umana: Yes
Sherry: Please enclose a copy, so we can refund you the purchase price.
Paula Umana: ok..I hope this is fixed in the future.
Sherry: I appreciate your letting us know of this issues and assure you I will share it the the team.
Paula Umana: Its not right to charge that much for a set and get nothing but damaged goods
Paula Umana: Thank you
Sherry: I completely understand.

Thank you for contacting us today Paula.

Enjoy your day!

****2nd Response****

I eventually got fed up and called their call center. I spoke to a very nice woman named Kim who apologized and told me that they hadn't received any other complaints about the Favorite Collection specifically. She urged me to tell other people that if their sets, whether it be playful pony or favorites collection, has defects or damages, to call hasbro directly and let them know about it.

****Sooo...now what?****

Best thing to do would be to contact hasbro. I would suggest calling as its more direct.

Hasbro customer service : 1-800-255-5516

Tell them about any and all damage. The more calls placed, the more likley that they'll hopefully do something about these problems. Regardless of how much you paid for your pony item, or the fact that they're toys, its unacceptable for a company to expect their customers to pay for product thats defective and/or damaged 90% of the time.

They all have dents? Even Nightmare Moon?

I am so happy I decided to stop buying new Hasbro products. That is beyond unacceptable, especially since its marketed towards collectors.

Well I stopped at DJ Pon3 once I saw that SHE had dents too. Nightmare moon had no dents but some very obvious rubbing. I'm calling Hasbro tomorow to complain and see what they can do, if they do anything. If they don't this set is going back to the store much to my disappointment.

I would hope so. its unacceptable to have a customer pay that much for a "Favorite Collection" set and have them ALL damaged. This damage was NOT visable from the outside otherwise I would have never gotten it. And its so unbelievably bad.

I just picked up Lyra, Trixie, Sunny Rays and Cherry Berry yesterday and I noticed all four of them have marks in the same spot. So the singles are susceptible to these marks now as well. I'm not sure why, but they apparently changed the packaging and besides being much harder to remove the ponies from the plastic, it's also leaving marks on them. Before the four newest ones, I've only had one other pony with marks from the packaging and that was the Rarity that came with the carousel. I bought her back in January and while the marks have faded some, they're still there, which makes me think the marks on my new girls will be visible for at least a little while.

I noticed how poor the quality of the G4 toys are, and especially with damaged products like those! I really hope they will replace your ponies. Habro needs to put more thought into the way they package their ponies..

Sending a new set wouldn't really help, though, since the issue is with the packaging. Meaning, every single set is going to have that same issue to some extent. And like I said, the same thing happened with my wave 8 singles which were harder than previous singles to get out of the plastic, so I'm pretty sure that they changed the packaging completely.

I took some pics of my new ponies with the dents on them. I tried to photograph Sunny Ray's dent, but it wasn't showing up very well in the photo. But here's the others to give you an idea:

The dent is definitely easiest to see on her. All four have the same shape dent, it just is more prominent on Cherry Berry.

It's kind of hard to see on Trixie, but it's the dark mark on her neck.

Lyra has other quality issues, but she was the last one, so I grabbed her anyway. Besides the dents, her tail is 2 inches longer than any other G4s, her neck has a weird gap around it and the seams of the plastic look pretty bad.

This was the response from hasbro..left me with this face:  :/  I would suggest that if you recieved any new sets that have these issues to CONTACT HASBRO. Maybe if more people talk to them they'll notice the errors in their batches with this one. I don't mind small errors, but this is a BIG one.

also these ponies have glitter on their symbol, while the regular playful ponies do not. hence the difference as to why I couldn't buy them individually. Plus no NM playful pony =(

That's not good!

I remember my ponies from the Fun at the Fair set had dents from the little ice cream rings on their legs. It's been almost a year since I opened them, I think, so I'll try to remember to check them and see if the dents are still there. Then you'll have a better idea of whether they are there to stay or not.

I guess I may need to resume buying loose from Taobao if I want to get dent-free ponies...

Wow a bit of a disappointment. I really want this set badly and I hope they won't have this issue. Must be sloppiness to roll the product out? Putting ponies right in the packaging right when they come out hot and very delicate? Anyhoo I hope this gets settled and you get dent-less ponies.

You might not be able to tell, because it occurs where the plastic holds the pony. I'm not sure how apparent it is until you open it. But perhaps if you are looking specifically for it you might be able to catch it...

This might not be true, My single trixie had a dent, but lyra did not.  It's not /all/ ponies get this, but it's probably 90% of them.

I've seen this before on other G4s too.

My Theory:  I think the figures, the plastic, is still warm when they package them and as they cool down the plastic settles onto the packaging form.  I suspect it's some sort of "Just-in-time" production-packaging cost-saving maneuver.  Rather than to let them cool down completely before packaging.   Just my theory.

I just checked the Lyra I bought yesterday, and yup she has the same issue. Though it's stupid, I don't mind as much because they still display alright and I don't imagine selling them anytime soon. I'm sure in the future undented ponies will be worth a lot though!

Ha, Hasbro is going to be swimming in calls if this keeps up--and they deserve it! If they're going to put out sets specifically for collectors and expect $40 a pop, they better be prepared for quality control calls!

They should be prepared for this too, Hasbro has had a VERY long standing relationship with rabid collectors of the Transformers line. They do a lot of Transformers toys for collectors only, and they know the price and quality that collectors toys should be!

This is making me question getting this set. For the price, I expect quality, especially since the set is being marketed specifially to collectors. The QC on the entire G4 line seems to have been very lax.

Which is exactly why I was pissed. I dropped 40 bucks on this. Not 5, not 10, but 40. I was intended on keeping Trixie, Pon 3, NM and Lemony gem and selling off the others. But it doesn't change the fact that they ponies are damaged. Hasbros reaction is garbage too.

Even if I pay $5 for something, I expect it to be of good quality. When I got Feathermay, she had a ton of QC issues which I complained to Hasbro about. I got a voucher for $5 off my next Hasbro product purchase, but my mom couldn't understand why I made such a big deal about it. She said it was just a toy, and it wasn't meant to be a collector's item. I told her that it didn't matter, and if I'm spending my money on something, especially from a company that usually has great products, I expect that my money isn't going to be wasted on a piece of junk. This is even worse, though, because these are meant to be collector's items!

My comic con :muffin: Pony pony had nasty dents all around her hooves too!

And I'm not sure it's because the ponies are hot when they put them in the packaging. They must have cooled down to have their hair sewn in and their decorations tampo printed on.

I think the plastic they use in their bodies is just a softer material that damages much more easily.... Many of the ponies I have bought recently have dents and scratches. :/

Wow, dents...i hope this is not something we will be seeing more of. >-<

Though i don't think people should have expected higher quality from the "fan favorites" pack. I don't think $40 is that bad for a set of 7 ponies, with one being an exclusive winged unicorn and some other exclusives regular ponies.
To me there also never seemed anything really "collector" to it apart from some of the characters being popular with older fans.

But yeah, there is no excuse for those dents...

Title: Re: **RESPONSE FROM HASBRO*** My little Pony Favorite Collection - Dents?
Post by: banditpony on August 06, 2012, 03:35:38 PM
I am pretty sure it's not because the pony is hot when placed into the packaging. The eye and cutie mark decals would not stay on the pony if it was hot, and it would smudge all over if it touched another object. I'm pretty sure the pony is cool when those are applied. And then dried before it goes through a packaging process.

The plastic is shaped around the ponies, and the machine that is doing is hot to mold the plastic around. So if it gets too close to the pony, then the heat and the pressure dent the pony.

I hope that makes sense.

edit: I also know that dropping $40 for the set is expensive, but for the amount you get in there it's average price. It's only coming out to be around $5.70 per pony.

That is awful, I have not been thrilled with Hasbro's QC either. Hopefully my Favorites set isn't bad enough that I have to take it back when it comes.

Maybe it is actually better that I payed a little extra to get Trixie, Lyra, and Luna from Chinese sellers on eBay instead of waiting for them to come out in stores. My Lyra just came and it is flawless with no marks or dents of any kind.

You think it's possible to fix the dents somehow? Submerging the parts in hot water or something? I don't feel like replacing any ponies because of dents since it doesn't bother me too much.

The dents are nasty, but I'm kind of goggling at the seams on Lyra!  That's super shoddy, in my opinion.  Wow... makes me sorta glad I've decided to focus on the older gens and maybe the blind bags...

I noticed that seams issue with an older set too, but I guess as it is a manufacturing thing, any pony made and put out to sell can have this issue sadly whenever a set is re-distributed to restock shelves.

Ive found that the ponies that come with tiaras have the dents/grooves. The worst ones are actually from the elastic band holding the crown in place. I also have this Twilight with'bruised' plastic on the eye.  The photo doesnt show it very well, but it is an obvious discolouration (and small paint scratch on the eye) She also has a chunk of glue on the NDS side.

Messed around with the levels a bit to show the area more

My other twilight also has 4 small black dots on her body NDS. I didnt notice them before wetting and styling her once, so i dont know if it was there to start with.

The only thing i really can do is swap the heads around.

I got used to accepting this while collecting the G3s:p  It's a rare pony indeed that comes out of the package "mint" these days.  Some things you can check while in the packages(paint rubs, mystery marks, off color head, etc), but some stuff is a surprise after you open the pony(dents, weird hair issues, stains from accessories touching the pony, etc).  I just got the castle in the mail last week, and Princess Cadence has a permanent mark on one nostril.

I was not happy to see the seams on my Trixie that I found yesterday.   It's terrible, but I just got used to accepting most of this due to the G3s.  I check as best I can, and hope for the best.  If I returned every pony that's got quality issues, I would be at the store for hours every week.

I just checked my Fun at the Fair ponies that I'm pretty sure had dents in them, but saw no trace of said dents. It's possible that I am mistaken, but it looks like there is hope that the dents will eventually disappear on their own.

Guys, I may be mistaken, but G3's often had the same problems coming out of the packaging around the hooves. Eventually, left out of packaging, the plastic bounced back.

They all have dents? Even Nightmare Moon?

I am so happy I decided to stop buying new Hasbro products. That is beyond unacceptable, especially since its marketed towards collectors.
Pardon?  They are still marketed to little girls - they still sell in the toy section.  The only ones "marketed to collectors" are going to be your Fair and Comic Con ponies.  The rest can be found in little girls hands who do not care how bad they are.

I am not saying it is right, but gang, for the price you are lucky the heads are on the right way.

I buy Breyers, they cost anywhere from $20 to $75 and up new - they come with box rubs and bent legs, they are marketed to collectors, and I can see getting bent over that.  But for the most part over a toy?

Oh and G3's had all kinds of messes, as did G1's - some of those mis-matched heads and bodies have nothing to do with fading but with production of a cheap childs toy.

well, remember the saddles? if you left them on the pony for awhile, they left indents that eventually popped out. I'm sure the same thing will happen :)

People said this set is $40, and $40 is quite a bit of money. That would feed me for a at least two weeks, better than I'm able to eat now. Having every single pony covered in dents (especially on top of all the other common Hasbroken 'quality' problems) is not acceptable. I don't care if they're truly children's toys, they should not be so damaged just being taken out of the package and its crazy to me how many people are like "oh well its bugs me but that's how it is, I'll just keep buying them and never complaining".

I don't care if something is $5 or $40, 'just a toy' or for collectors, it should not be broken/damaged directly out of the package. If I paid $40 for a set of ponies with heads on the wrong way, heads would roll at Hasbro like you wouldn't believe. We're not "lucky" their heads are on the right way. It is Hasbro's JOB to make toys and please their customers to sell products. It is not the duty of collectors to just throw our money at a company and be grateful we get anything in return, no matter how bad the quality is. That's not how it works. If they sell us crap and people get sick of it, they'll get angry and stop buying the products.

Every time someone tells me to be grateful Hasbro even makes ponies, be grateful they're not worse, etc it drives me insane. We owe Hasbro NOTHING. Hasbro is the company and they design/make the products. I have bought brand new non-Hasbro toys whose retail price is $15-25. The company making these dolls somehow makes them have wonderful quality, barely any flaws (I have had 2 issues total out of 19 dolls and one issue was very small), and awesome clothing/wigs. And because ponies are far simpler, they don't need all the assembly that the dolls do. Hasbroken can do better as proven by other toy companies with much higher quality products in the same price range, but they choose not to. That's not okay with me.

They also sell collector Barbies right next to normal Barbies, so being on the toy aisle doesn't really change that. The fact still remains that this set, White Celestia, and Zecora are collector oriented. Sure kids will probably like them too, but collectors and bronies have been begging for more show accurate toys, background character toys, and a white Celestia. Hasbro finally listened.

I was reading your chat with "Shelly" at Hasbro and it reminds me of a client that I have that is a program developer. A lot of major Companies are starting to use a computer program that is trained to answer over 2000 questions and help cut back on calls. What i would do is contact Hasbro directly over the phone and wait to speak to an actual person. Maybe that way you can actually get replacement ponies.

Wooow, one of the hair plugs in DJ Pon-3's hair is tied to another strand to make it longer because it was too short.  A factory worker must have cut off too short then took another strand and tied it together. That is definitely not okay.

No point in getting dented ponies replaced because they are all going to be like that, but this tied hair strand... probably the worst thing I've seen.

I agree with Diamond - while it is true that you should never expect damaged goods when opening an item, personally I always try to remember both the market these toys are aimed at plus the fact they are only $5 each. Perhaps thats a lot to some people but in the grander scheme of the rest of the toy aisle and the tiny increase in what a pony costs now as to what it cost 30 years ago, I understand that quality control and finish may be less than we as "collectors" expect.

As much as this set was a "fans favourite" its still getting sold in TRU, it still features characters that the cartoons target market of little girls will want as well. Yes, it is $40 but thats, what $5.70 per pony [considering one is larger] thats not t0o bad a price for what you are getting in my opinion.

I hope that those who are not happy manage to get themselves replacement items. :)

We know that Hasbro listens, and they will listen even better if we use the right words. Glad that I *didn't* find a set before this was reported.

I was looking at my other ponies in the collector's set and Rainbow Dash also had a hair plug tied with another... they didn't even knot it the right way. I just pulled the knot apart with tweezers and now that hair plug is half as long as the rest of the mane. The dent in her is pretty noticeable too.

Pfft, whatever... Hasbro obviously has no QC with these toys.

Aww that stinks.  I highly doubt that Hasbro has them go directly to toys r us first.  I know most ponies are made in china but I'm sure Hasbro has the single ponies on hand somewhere.  I would be mad too if I paid that much and got nothing but crap basically.  At least they were kind about it and didn't try to weasle out of giving you what you deserved.

In never said it was acceptable, I said it is not uncommon and while it maybe an "expensive set" it is still being sold elsewhere and made available to the main stream market for My Little Pony which is little girls.  In G3's there where several collectors sets that where sold in main stream markets and as such came into the hands of kids which is again where they mainly marketed too. Should parents accept this no, do they most of the times yes because it is easier for today's busy parent to not worry about it then try to contact a major company and complain.  Do some parents complain, yes I am sure they do.

To be honest if you are that unhappy with there level of product then do not buy it.  Your pocket book speaks the loudest.

And finally quality has always been an issue with Hasbro, they have to package there product to prevent thief and look good on the shelf.  G3's had the same issues, from hair in neck seams to dents in legs.  This is nothing new! And before anyone thinks we "old" collectors used to let this slide we would contact Hasbro about it all the time, and be told they would look into it.

Looks like the blister is so tight it bites, quite counter intuitive for packaging material.

I know on the BB collection, I had to try like heck to pop them out. I'm sure kids have just as much fun.

They were pretty tough to get out of that yeah (not to mention my Pinkie can't stand up properly lol)

Every time I open a G4 I get irritated by how many layers of plastic there are and think that surely if I have trouble then kids must be driven mad trying to get their ponies free. Having to remove sticky tape and pull hair through holes in plastic, pull things off hair and pop ponies out of plastic shells, gah! They all come out with dry hair that needs conditioning too. Or maybe I just fail lol :P

Surely they can think of a better way to package them, I've never before bought anything else that gets damaged by packaging. And just... so much plastic, rawr!

I encourage everyone who's had issues to call, e-mail, or contact customer support via chat.  Because Hasbro might change things if they know there's a problem, but they definitely WON'T change things if they DON'T know there's a problem.

Yeah, MLPs are not expensive toys, but honestly I don't think this would even be hard to correct if they changed the packaging a little.   Here's what I'd do, if I were them:  pony's mane and tail each in a rubber tie, with another tie fastening the hair to the nearest leg.  (This keeps the hair from getting tangled or looking unseemly.)  Then put a bubble over the pony to attach it to the cardboard, like with G1s.

I mean, it would probably SAVE them money on packaging.

Just because something has "always been this way" doesn't mean it's okay to just shrug your shoulders and keep buying toys with low quality. Yes G3's had quality flaws, yes even G1 had quality flaws, but nothing is going to change if no one says anything to Hasbro. Hasbro is not going to get off their duff and work to improve things if they hear no complaints. (Yes I know they probably won't change things anyway, but they certainly won't change things if no one says anything!)

In college my environmental teacher told us a story. Back quite a few years ago, McDonalds used to package their Big Macs in styrofoam clamshells. My college professor gave extra credit to all his students if they wrote to McD's and complained about the packaging, and showed proof that they sent the letter. And you know what? Eventually the packaging DID change! Maybe the letters had nothing to do with it, you say? Maybe, but maybe not.

Fact is, Hasbro is NOT going to change if no one says anything. Yeah they might not change anyway, but it's not like no company has never acknowledged the complaints of their customers. It could happen with Hasbro.

Yes it's true there's 7 ponies in the $40 set and that comes out to $5.70 per pony. Yes it's true that these are kids toys and kids/parents buy them, and kids might not care as much about quality control. But Hasbro DID advertise these sets are being made specifically to acknowledge the collectors out there, so they should expect that collectors want quality products. That's all there is to it.

Just because these toys are cheap and affordable does not mean we should accept flaws that can easily be corrected.

Nothing changes if everyone keeps silent.

Well said!

Lets not forget that the set is at least $10 more expensive than it should be, considering they threw in 2 ponies that 99% of G4 collectors probably already have at least one of, if not three or four! I know it's nothing new for them to throw in re-release ponies where they aren't needed, but every time they do it just seems dirty to me. Like they're just doing it to jack up the price.

I am no expert but it just seems like some of these problems could be avoided if Hasbro did just make a few small changes that probably wouldn't cost anything...even if it's only $5 per pony, it still would be nice to have good quality straight from the box.

ALso if they don't do anything people are going to be less likely to buy the set which equals more money lost than if they would just change the packaging

This is exactly what I meant by not being impressed with the quality in my thread about this set. It is horrible quality. All of the ones in my set except for Rainbow Dash and Nightmare Moon have dents. Nightmare moon has paint rubs and stray paint in various places. They are a hot mess. However, it is all water under the bridge anyway since my daughter took them yesterday and gave them haircuts *bangs head on laptop*. Somehow my husband thought it was smart to allow her to do art projects at the table with her ponies. He even acted shocked she did it (uhmmm...she is 3 years old!) So, they are dented and have new "stylish" hair.

If you pour boiling hot water over the dents they usually improve/disappear.

I'm sorry everyone is so unhappy :( It's a harsh reality of capitalism that companies try to charge as much as they can for the least amount of effort. With the ~economy~ the way it is people are spending less on luxury items like toys, so a lot of workers are being laid off or having their hours cut in an effort to improve overall profits. Whatever quality control people they have on staff are probably so overworked and underpaid that they don't have time to scrutinize every single figure that leaves the factory (a number which has drastically increased with the popularity of Friendship is Magic, I'll bet). Hasbro probably figured it'd cost less to refund any people who notice/report the poor quality - which doesn't make it in any way okay, mind you, but that's unfortunately that. :(

If dents were the worst of it I wouldn't mind, but when we have things like looped/short hair plugs, botched symbols and eyes and the like it makes them very unattractive to collect. I dunno, it's reasons like this that made me sell almost my entire G4 collection :( I still love the show, but I'm not a little girl or a Brony, and those seem to be their only target audiences as of late.

This is pretty disappointing, honestly. I don't really like the packaging of the G4 ponies anyways, but now they're supposedly changing it so that a) it's even harder to get the ponies out and b) leaves annoying dents where the plastic comes in contact with them.

Also, as someone who tends towards 'eco-friendly', all the plastic they use in the packaging is a nightmare. o_o A single plastic bubble isn't that bad, but they sandwich everything between 2 different ones (and if anyone remembers the combs in the earlier waves, they had their own plastic thing). Not to mention those pain-in-the-ass plastic/cardboard things they sandwich the hair into. It all just seems excessive. I don't even know if the plastic they use is recyclable.

I agree with what someone posted earlier: Just package them the same way they did with G3 ponies (plastic bubble on cardboard). It'll certainly save Hasbro packaging costs, and save us all time on removing our precious little ponies.

I always throw the plastic packaging into recycling bins. It's either made from PET or PVC, so I'm not really sure whether or not it is recyclable.

I thought plastic wasn't recyclable unless it had numbers on it.  I know I've look really hard but I couldn't find any evidence it's recyclable.

Please let me know if I'm wrong because I would love to recycle it.

Yep, they are recyclable. Looking at the boxes and they have a recycle symbol on it. It's weird because only international boxes have the symbol and American packaging says nothing. But I assume it's still recyclable.

Thank you!!  There is no excuse for a product to be damaged coming straight out of the package.  If Hasbro can't be bothered to care about the quality of the toys they're producing, then why should I bother to buy them?

This is why I am encouraging all to contact hasbro. The more calls they get, the more obvious it is that its an overall problem and not an isolated problem. I sent the info to equestria daily but maybe if other people send emails to them they'll post it.

I agree.  Don't be silent!

I've sent Hasbro two complaint e-mails about the shoddy quality of G4 and mentioned symbol and eye smearing, head/body color mismatch, dirt smudges, permanent stains, jagged/badly cut neck seams, and misplaced and misprinted eyes (seriously, is it that hard to make sure the characters eyes aren't two different sizes, or sliding off their heads in opposite directions?)  I barely ever buy G4s anymore because of their terrible quality.

I was planning on trying to find the collector's set this weekend but I think I'll pass until they get their stuff straightened out!

I just checked my Trixie and Sunny Rays (Target, not TRU.) Trixie is pristine but Sunny Rays has a teensy weensy little dent that's barely noticeable. Nothing worth returning.

I'm more upset with my wave 4 blind bag Minuette: I opened the bag and half her cutie mark was rubbed off. The top half of the hourglass is gone except for a smidge of the border on the right.

I don't think it would make them get rid of it but it would make them aware of the problem. If no body tells them then they don't know and they'll think that its an isolated incident with a few sets. But if EVERYONE with dents emails them/calls them then I think theres more hope for them to realize that its an OVERALL problem with all the latest product and will fix the packaging issue so that are ponies can come somewhat dent free.

IMO the plastic for the new pony series is really really soft. A finger nail can easily scratch the surface. Dents and scratches are bound to happen. Maybe if they do get enough issues, they will work with a bit harder plastic.

This isn't exactly related to the collection set, but I just bought a "Pony Wedding" Twilight Sparkle from the new display at Walmart and I noticed several problems with her as well. Not only does she have dents and scratches, but if you look carefully you can see that some of her tail is fused together too. None of this was visible until I removed her from the packaging. I'm starting to wonder if all the new toys have this problem. :(

I went ahead and called hasbro and the tech urged me to tell everyone thats having issues to CALL THEM. They haven't heard any complaints about these sets and want to hear about it if there are ANY issues with the ponies. I wasn't able to get a replacement as they didn't have any in stock but I will be returning my set and waiting for them to come out more. She said she'd be forwarding it to quality control.

so....CALL HASBRO. Even if you don't care lol. Just let them know there are problems with the ponies!!

I'm putting this in bold not to be shouty, but to catch everyone's attention:

Hasbro is not going to cancel this set if people complain about the dents.

This is a store-exclusive.  Hasbro has a deal with Toys R Us to produce these.  TRU exclusive toys bring people into TRU, where they maybe see a few other things they want and buy them too.

Hasbro wants to know about things like this.

If their toys has problems that are turning off buyers, they want to know so that they can fix them in the future.   This would not even be a difficult or costly problem to solve!  But if no one tells Hasbro there's a problem, they can't fix it.

I have some photos I was going to send Hasbro but it seems sending them the photos would be a waste of my time so I will just call them sometime soon. Here are the photos of my damaged one (figures DJ Pon-3 is the most special next to Nightmare Moon and she's got the worst of it)

Run the dents under warm water and they will go away - you may need to repeat a few times. Moulded plastic has a memory and with heat and time the plastic will go back into position - especially on such minor dents :)

So what are we supposed to do if our ponies are dented and we are not happy? Can we return them to a TRU as a damaged item?

I got the favorites set today and ALL of my ponies were dented.  Nightmare Moon was barely dented, but Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Flower Wishes were very bad.  I am upset but not surprised.

My boyfriend bought this for me as a special present because it has been a rough week for me.  He's going to be upset when he finds out.

I am beginning to think I should just collect Barbies instead of Hasbro, or maybe save up for a Pullip or two.  At least I'd know the quality would be good.

When I called Hasbro they said you should be able to take them back to the stores to refund or exchange, or Hasbro will refund it for you & send you a shipping label to return it (but they can't send you a new one apparantly since it's a TRU exclusive).

I haven't bought the collector's set or had dents quite this bad, but dents can go away over time. When I bought my Shine Bright Luna set, she and Pinkie came with tiaras on their heads. It wasn't too bad on Luna, but it was really noticeable on Pinkie and I was rather upset but just put them away anyway. I checked on them last night for the first time in a month or two (They somehow ended up underneath a pile of pony clothes, accessories, and pets) and the dent's in Pinkie's head were completely gone (Same with Luna). I couldn't find a trace of them.

I don't know if it would be different in this situation since it's in the body rather than the head and it's a bit worse, but I'd imagine they'd go away too given time.

The boiling water trick works really well, in my experience. I just dunked my ponies in a cup of boiling water and the dents pretty much vanished. :D

So the dents DO go away over time?  Has everyone had this experience?

I really don't want to return them.  I love Lemony Gem and Flower Wishes.

If you look earlier in this thread you ll find a couple of tricks but just in case you cant find them...

Moulded plastic has a memory and wants to return to where it actually "set". As Ren Ren says, it will revert over time eventually. But to help it on its way you can heat the dents under or in boiling/hot water and the plastic should return to his original mould. You may have to repeat this and need a little patience.

This is crazy... someone was just telling me about this problem. I am really lucky mine all look good. It's almost like they put the toys in the packaging before the plastic was completely cool or something. Bizarre and troubling.
Good luck everyone getting undamaged sets!

I just looked mine over to see, and all the dents are gone! I didn't do anything but leave them stored for a few weeks.

Wow, it makes me sad how bad some of these are. I feel like all my MIB ponies are in pain.  :bawl: If I can't see it, the dents aren't really there right? ^^;

I hope their packaging changes soon.

BTW are the sets still hard to find?

The listing is back up on TRU for 44.99.
I've also noticed plenty at the stores around here.

Here's a link.  (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12885979)

I saw about 6 at my local TRU today, and got one.

My Flower wishes has some glue in the front of her mane, a small knot in between some plugs, and her front left leg looks bent up slightly, my Rainbow Dash has dents and marks that look like her mold wasn't filled entirely on her display side, and had small bits of pony hair stuck to it, my Trixie has her back legs bent inwards a little bit, her body is lighter than my single release Trixie, and her neck and head don't line up well, my DJ-Pon3 has a small bit of her glasses rim visible underneath her display-side's eye (though all of them in store seemed to have the same problem) Pinkie, NMM and Lemony seemed to be without any problems aside from the normal dents they all have.

That aside, I still love the set and all my ponies from it, regardless of their problems and such, I love box hair, and most of the dents will go away with time. c:

Edit: Though I have a feeling I SHOULD contact Hasbro anyway just to help with the problem and they were nice and helpful about it last time I did so, hmm. Yeah, I will, I'm not upset with the packaging problem though. (though freeing all my ponies from the box gave my arm scratches cause I wanted to preserve it)

It's part of the wonderful world of TRU *eyeroll* Startins in about August they start the holiday price rises, so by the time we get to december something that started off costing $10 will end up being $25.

Eeeek, I just ordered this set online (couldn't resist the $10 off) and I seriously hope mine won't be too bad =/ I'm importing it to the UK so sending it back would be a right pain, if it were at all possible...

I've never had this problem with MLP, I've had it with LPS.

I'm getting really tired of the lack of quality control.  I just took an opened set back to ToysRus because one of the pony's hair was rooted and then rooted again into another hole and glued in.  There was nothing I could do to fix it without pulling out all of her hair...

Of course the set I exchange it for looked alright well one of the pony's has glue all the way down her leg with cuts.  I tried removing the glue and I've had no luck...

Not sure what to do at this point.  When I went the first time and explained the issue with the set all I got was a vacant stare.

Can people call hasbro for toy suggestions?

And cow, if my Flower Wishes comes through the mail in a horrible shape like those I'll probably punch the wall!

There's always a solution to a problem, How about warming their bodies with a blow drier till they become really soft(like rubber) and molding them back to shape with you fingers. (wearing something to protect you from burns ofcouse)

This doesn't look like permanent damage to me cause the plastic they use is really adaptable

I removed both my Flower Wishes and Trixie before I noticed.  They have not only dents but it looks like scrapes around the dent.   After that, I used scissors to free them and the dents seem a little less noticeable.  I don't know if that actually made a difference or if I just happened to free the worst two first.

I'm glad to know the dents may go away though!  I will try the hot water.

I bought two sets and neither appear to have issues- maybe I am just not as observant as others.

All my ponies came out with dents and my Nightmare Moon's symbol is terrible, like extra glue and glitter was added and dripped all over the place. Sigh.

Rainbow Dash was the worst though. Her legs are so warped she can't even stand. I'll have to try hot water or a hair dryer on her.

I've still not received mine and am honestly pretty concerned about what I'm going to get >.< I just hope NMM is okay.
