Title: G2 prototypes found on eBay!
Post by: freezestime on February 20, 2019, 08:36:49 PM
Hi everyone!

I was browsing G2 on eBay and stumbled upon this gem (can't link but the listing is called Vintage 90s G2 Prototypes my little pony authentic, Hasbro/Kenner super rare HTF)

I would buy it but it's like $500 AUD.

I've posted it on a G2 Facebook page, I've emailed it to the person who runs Lavender Lagoon and I've shown it to the people around me (with varying reactions)

Neat, but live eBay links that aren't your own aren't allowed here, might wanna edit out the link and just type the name of the listing or something.

I saw your message via my website :)

I have one Ivy head, which is the same as the blue one in the auction. It's pretty cool. The material is a bit different and it is bigger than the regular head.

I would have loved to buy the body loose, but this is a bit too steep for me.

Maybe the seller will lower the price eventually, all we can really do is keep an eye on it.

Kinda neat but waaaaaaaay overpriced.  That seller is dreaming.

Also, it's not like they are mock ups or completed pre-production prototypes.  They could be anything - including blanks from the factory (which are all over the place).

Heads up, the seller reduced their price by $50 so now they're $349.99 us.

Well, "worth that much" is very subjective.  IMO they are worth that much . . . They're one of a kind pieces of toy history.   They are not factory blanks, if they were they'd have a traditional neck lip.  (Also I've never seen factory blanks of G2.  I've seen plenty of G3s, but never a G2.)

I hope they sell eventually and don't just get tossed out . . .

Same here, but idk what the seller will do after this sale ends. They however have the "make me an offer" option although I have no clue if they'd accept any offers due to the initial high price/maybe expectations.

Maybe they sold? I don't see them up on ebay.

Personally, I would price them at $75-$150, possibly $175... if I were selling them.  Coming down to $50 to get rid of them. I like prototypes but not the blanks so much as say a finished pre-production prototype or a piece made for commercials or marketing, you know?

But of course MY idea of a fair prices is totally subjective based on what I have and will pay for prototypes.  I fully recognize that pony collectors (at least for the vintage ponies) seem to be willing to pay significantly more than collectors of other vintage toy lines (except Star Wars) so probably my idea of what a fair price is is skewed.
