Title: Memorabilia for movie, specials and 86-87 series
Post by: robertburkhart on November 20, 2019, 12:12:00 AM
Are there any g1 animation fans interested in  trading sunbow memorabilia for sunbow memorabilia:
1984 Special Script
1986 movie script
Return of Tambelon (4 Scripts)
And concept art such as early model sheets of Danny and Spike with wing and Dream Castle early background art for the first special. Looking for concrept art, model sheets, animation guides, series bible, and Scripts I don’t have listed.

There are fan transcripts of the script but as far as I know the "real" movie script (or scripts for other episodes / specials) are not publicly archived.  I know that some scripts for other Sunbow episodes, like Transformers, somehow made it into the public domain, so I hope someday MLP scripts are found too.

One person that I know of own a copy of the MLP & Friends bible.

I actually do have scans of a promotional folder for MLP & Friends which features the "flying Spike" artwork.

I have spent a lot of time pondering the timeline of when the picture with flying Spike was made, because on the one hand you have Tirek, but on the other hand the ponies are all ones who were later than Rescue At Midnight Castle (like Flutterbye and Posey), PLUS Danny is there and I always felt like the reason he wasn't in Rescue At Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina is that they hadn't invented him yet.

Anyway, the rest of the promo folder features a set of character cards for each part of MLP & Friends: the ponies, the Potato Head Kids, and the GLO Friends.

The MLP section is interesting because, again, it is mostly characters who were NOT in MLP & Friends, and some who weren't in any MLP animation at all, like Flutterbye has a card.

I had it for quite a time but eventually sold it on eBay when I needed cash for moving, lol.

I'm not sure of its exact purpose but I would guess it was meant to be used to promote the new series to TV networks?  It gives a quick explanation of each of the "MLP & Friends" segments, except Moondreamers which I presume was added in the 2nd year of the show.

I have five or six Jem episode scripts. They are legitimate and they show variations from the ultimate production. So a fan transcript script and a genuine script would probably be quite different...things got changed along the way.  I know that there are several people with the Jem bible as well...but I don't have that.

With MLP I have never been aware of that happening or a means by which that material has entered the fan domain. Not that I've paid a lot of attention to it, but it feels like pursuing those aspects of MLP kind of fell behind some of the other collectables from the eighties for some reason. There's a ton of material around from Jem, from all kinds of different sources connected with the show, but I don't remember anyone really doing the same for MLP in the same time period...

With the Transformers scripts, I think someone auctioned them off on eBay a long time ago.  It might have also happened with MLP scripts except, unlike the Transformers scripts, no one uploaded them to the internet.  I hope they turn up someday!

@Wildshadow I think it was in July 2018 or so.  It has a splashpage for MLP (the Tirek one), Potato Head Kids, and Glo Friends. It also had a pocket in the packet that contained one page of character cards per franchise.  Four characters for each.  For MLP it was Flutterbye and Megan, Sparkler and Moochick, Danny and Spike, and Tirek.  They used art from the splashpage for the character cards.  Which probably informed their choices. :P

The gargoyles behind Tirek are super detailed and all different, which is impressive!

Would have went well with the Catrina press kit's I've found -sniffles- The only thing I've gotten to add to my collection so far is the black and white press photo of Sandy Duncan with a Firefly cut out.

Sorry to revive this old thread but I've recently gotten a working scanner and scanned high quality photos of the press kit. This includes the Glo-Friends and Potato Head Kid pages. Do anything you guys want with these, no credit required.

Am loving all of the photos! It's always fantastic seeing original artwork. Flying Spike is fascinating! Love the unique gargoyle characters, they're incredibly detailed.  I've always loved the artwork and animation style of Rescue at Midnight Castle. These items are really special! It's wonderful that examples of these manuscripts and promotional material have survived.  Super cool.

This stuff looks so awesome.  Have you looked through the scripts?  Do they have anything like production notes or unused and different dialogue?

Definitely a lot of neat stuff in here. I'm curious as to why they chose Flutterbye in particular to be Megan's companion.
