Post by: Aurora on June 01, 2018, 10:22:20 PM
This year's host pony is Tropical Breeze!

The Minnesota/ Midwest Pony Jubilee is almost here, and we have some exciting changes!

Date: Saturday, September 1, 2018
Time: 10 am (9 am setup) - 5?
This weekend also has the Renaissance Festival and the State Fair.  We are going to be conventioning at the Starfire Center in Waseca, Minnesota. It is located along 2nd Ave SW- the address it is giving me is 204 2nd Ave SW, Waseca MN 56093.  That will get you onto the right street, and you might just have to look for signs at that point. Mark your calendars and plan your weekend!

The fourth post in this thread is for activities- if you have any questions, please look at that post, or message Kazzellin.

Hotels in Waseca: Grandstay Hotel   https://www.grandstayhospitality.com/find-a-hotel/locations/waseca/overview
American Inn  http://www.wasecaamericanmotel.com/
(Please note, these are not the only places to stay, but this is a good place to start looking!)
There are also campgrounds in the area for tents or RV's. If you have any questions about these, please message Aurora- I will be happy to help you find a place to stay!

Please sign up for a type of food to bring to the potluck- just put a note here on the thread, or PM Blackfrost/Julie. She will get you added! We need toppings for the tacos, and can also use some fruit/veggie and desserts.  (The food is on the third post on this thread!)
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

We will also need a reasonably good count of who needs a vendor table. The tables are 6 feet long, and you can get as many as you want. There will be chairs provided as well.
There will be a separate area for games and eating, so no need to plan for extra space at your table to eat!

Who is coming? Do you need a table?

YES!!!

Aurora (2 tables)
Foxfire
Kazzellin (4 tables)
Nessa & Mr. Nessa, Plus Mystery Friend (1 table)
Blackfrost & Peggy (1 table)
Wizzer and Mr. Wiz (3 or 4 tables)

Okay, let’s talk activities! :awake:

-Coloring contest! All ages welcome! Crayons, markers, and picture (or three) of our host pony (Tropical Breeze) will be provided. :D Completed pictures will be numbered and posted for votes, so please don't put your name on the front. ;) Prize TBD

-Photo contest! Take a picture featuring out host pony of the year - Flutter pony Tropical Breeze (from the second set). Print your photo out and bring with, or let us know if you need it printed for you. (Non-photo-quality paper is fine.) Categories to be announced. ;) Prize TBD

-Art contest! Do you like to draw, paint, play with noodles glued to a board? Make something pony-related (ideally featuring Tropical Breeze) and enter it into the art contest! Prize TBD

-Customs display! No contest for this one, but if you like making custom ponies, we wanna see what you can do! Any custom is welcome! We wanna see them! (If turnout for this is good, we might turn it into a contest next year. ^.^ )

-Dice game will be going on! :D
What's the dice game? It's a popular game from baby and bridal showers. To participate, please bring 2-3 wrapped gifts, pony related (ideally; doesn't have to be; chocolates and food items always welcome!) in the $5 range (can go higher if need be, but no higher than $10, please, as there's always the chance of not winning anything). Participants will sit in an approximate circle around the table of wrapped prizes, and pass around a couple boxes of 3 standard dice, trying to roll doubles. During the first round (if you roll doubles) you get to pick a prize from the table; this lasts until there are no more prizes. During the second round, you get to steal a prize from someone else! This round usually lasts about a minute, and is timed. After this, prizes are opened, and show and tell happens before the third and final round - stealing the opened prizes! Also lasts about a minute. (Depending on how many new participants and kids we have participating, time may be added to those rounds; past meets have had bottle necks due to learning the game, and we want no annoyed people (especially since kids can be pretty savvy about emotions they're picking up; we don't want them discouraged from future participation!). ;)  )

-Felt pony construction! Pre-cut shapes will be provided. Add beads, glitter, paints or other decotations, yarn for the hair, stuffng, and poof! You've got a felty pony! Use as decor, or put on the tree later! (Parental supervision requested for the kiddies, please). :D

-Bean bag toss! Winner takes the game home! :D Second and third-place prizes TBD

-Raffle? This one isn’t going to be at someone’s house, so I don’t know that this one is necessary.

-Board games (privided by various people)

Let me know if you’ve other ideas for activities we could do, and any feed back for the current ones listed! :D

I know Nimrodel and her husband are into board and tabletop games, and Erick is huge on them as well. Maybe we can do some gaming as a side activity, for whoever wamts to? We have a moderate selection of tabletop games we could pick from to bring.

Mlp monopoly?  That could be fun to do and I actually own it!

That's a great idea! Maybe we can scout out other pony/unicorn themed games?
Title: Re: Minnesota Pony Jubilee Question!
Post by: Kazzellin on June 09, 2018, 03:13:07 PM
I picked up the merry go round stamping game at the last meet, and I also have the merry go round adventure gane! :) I also have the unstable unicorns game. :D
Title: Re: Minnesota Pony Jubilee Question!
Post by: Aurora on June 10, 2018, 04:23:52 AM
I think Unstable Unicorns might be a little... risque for a family friendly event.
I'm also gonna say the rodeo should be an outside thing, so we should skip that for this meet.
I'm interested to see how the board games go, though! I have a Candyland-like game that I can bring. You have to bring your own little playing pieces, though- I'm not opening them up!

As far as paying for the event center, I think we will put out a donation jar, with a suggestion of $5 per group.
Thoughts?

Post by: Kazzellin on June 10, 2018, 10:41:56 AM
I wouldn't know about then non-family friendly aspect of it; haven't played it yet. I do have all the expansions, the but, er, "adult" themed deck is not mixed in; I left it in its own box. ^^;

No outside space at all this time, then? No worries; I'll nix those then. :)

Edit: Do we want to try having a customs contest this meet? :D
Title: Re: Minnesota Pony Jubilee Question!
Post by: Aurora on June 11, 2018, 02:12:19 AM
I googled it- you are right. Looks ok. I just sort of lumped it with Cards Against Humanity!

Customs contests are very pretty, and I love to see what people can do. We could also just do a display--- I am a huge fan of all kinds of contests, but sometimes our participation in them is a little lacking. Ponyqueen, if the party isn't at your house, are you going to enter an art contest? Will you do the whole thing with your left hand?
Title: Re: Midwest/ Minnesota Pony Jubilee! September 1, 2018
Post by: Kazzellin on June 11, 2018, 05:44:22 AM
Okay! I have requested the first off! Here’s hoping it gets approved. :awake:

If it’s Aurora approved we should be good to go, then! I shall see about remembering to bring it along for the games to play part. :satisfied:

Art contest as well as customs contest sounds fun! I like this plan, since I know we have at least 3 artists in our group. :D

I have made suggestions for the meet pony; see the above activities post. ^.^

Just want to say I love the idea of a customs or art display. I probably wouldn't join a contest...but I like when we all share things we made!!

By the way, were there any pictures taken at the last meet? I'm curious to see how the rodeo went :)
Title: Re: Midwest/ Minnesota Pony Jubilee! September 1, 2018
Post by: Aurora on June 11, 2018, 10:34:31 AM
My nephew took pictures of the Rodeo, I will get those sent to me! It was silly fun, and I would like my Discord to get another chance, but this venue is a little too inside. Jocelyn, keep working on your head, we will ride again!

Kazz, I could not for the life of me remember where you put that list! Thank you!
I went through and looked at the activities again, i think a felt pony would be fun! I have plenty of embroidery floss, and felt is cheap, let me look into the rest of this!

Hahaha! Aurora Approved! I just couldn't function last night, or we would already be on the next step!

If you need playing pieces Aurora I could bring part of my blind bag pony collection. I have them organized by wave in jars.  :awake:

As for sales, should we bring our own tavles? I might take a crack at that again.

Marla mentioned on the FB group chat that tables should be provided. She's going to find out how many will be available and let us know. :) Fiune by me! Less to transport! ;)

You should definitely set up a table, Sapphire! Sometimes things sell that you don't expect.
I think I am only going to bring things to sell to the big meet from now on, unless I find something cool and easy to deal with.

Like Kazz said, there are already tables and chairs there. If you need a tablecover, bring your own! I have a friend making me a tablecloth, i am excited to see how it looks.

My best suggestion: Tropical Breeze, the flamingo flutter pony. Flamingos are totally "trending" right now. Stores are brimming with merch and party stuff featuring the bird. Plus it's on the Fair pony. I say we piggy back and have a fantastical flamingo-centric Jubilee!! Also, she's just a lovely creature.
Title: Re: Midwest/ Minnesota Pony Jubilee! September 1, 2018

Tropical Breeze has always been one of my favorite of all time ponies. She was one of the ten who were invited to my wedding. I fully endorse her, but am open to other options.

The piggybacking is a good suggestion!

New Poll! For the host pony, this time. If you need a better idea what any of them look like, I know for a fact that you are on the internet right now... every since Photobucket stopped working here, it is really annoying to post pictures!

Anyhoo, head up and vote! We will let this voting go for a few weeks, then we can choose our host! Kazz, I really enjoy the photo contest- again, not too many people tend to enter, so maybe more of a gallery, but it is still really fun for me to take a pony on vacation and get some fun photo shoots!

I voted for a host pony choice! ^.^ Looks like we might need a tie-breaker! :D

Excellent! Once we've narrowed down the host pony, we can have peeps start taking photos to submit. I think three categories for winning - most beautiful, funniest, and most daring! Thoughts? :awake:

Edir: Oh! We could also have a caption contest for a provided photo at the meet!  :satisfied:

Up to you. I don't know who in the chat and on here hasn't voted yet, though it looks like only 6 people have? I've never done a poll on the Arena before, so I don't know if it tells you who has voted or not.

Did you try PMing Aquatic Neon? He hasnt posted on twitter since January, so I don't know if he even uses that platform anymore. :(

Anyway, I'm going to bring either cupcakes or cake to the meet this time around. Might be mini cakes instead, we'll see what time gives me.  :satisfied:

All righty- I reset the poll, but I can't change it from "two votes." So PLEASE only vote for one option!

We will leave this open for a week or two.... I'm about to go on a short vacation with both the front runners. Hope they like the rain!

Hey, Blackfrost------ will you put me down for a pasta salad and coffee (with sugar and milk on the side)? Unless coffee is magically provided. I will also bring a 12-pack of Coke.

AAANNNNDDD--- Can you all let me know if you are planning to be there? And maybe how many people are coming with you? I will keep updating the first post as I see people saying they are coming.

I voted! Didn't really mind which pony/ponies, as I have all three, so I flipped a coin on it. ^.^

I am planning on going and have already requested the day off! Might not have the personal time/vacation time, though, so I'm gonna start saving up to cover bills that week, just in case. (Wasn't counting on getting sick with bronchitis during the summer; usually if I get it it's in February. )

I found a simple recipe for taco seasoning, and I am going to assume that most spices are ok for everyone to eat. If you happen to be allergic to cumin or paprika, let me know. I am going to make them fairly bland, so you won't even taste the Frank's Red Hot.

Okay, here's a rough idea of what I think I should bring-

A few select G1 ponies to sell. I always have trouble doing this (out of all the meets I've been to I've sold ONE pony) so I'm going to probably be limiting this to keeping the more common ones at home. Still have a spare TB that I need to wash up too, so maybe having our mascot will help? This will mean I'll need a table but probably only one because I'm not bringing my entire box.

I could bring stuff for the tacos like cheese or lettuce. Although my specialty is baking sweet things. I usually do cupcakes but I could branch out to cookies or something too I guess.

Sapphire, I will put you down for a table! It is a small meet with some serious collectors, so sales can be really hard- we all have Lemon Drop, after all! It isn't you, or your ponies.

There has been a lot of chatter on how to expand, so don't give up! We get bigger each year, and that can only mean awesome things for selling, and buying! And meeting new friends, and eating those cupcakes!

We need sweets, too. Can't have a sugar high without sugar! So if you prefer bringing sweets, please do! We will make sure they get put out in time- Blackfrost will make sure!

I could use 3 tables easily :)
Title: Re: Midwest/ Minnesota MLP Jubilee! September 1, 2018--- All Are Welcome!
Post by: Kazzellin on July 15, 2018, 09:55:58 AM
I'm going to say 2-3 tables, for me. I still have all those G3s to sell, plus other projects like the jewelry and customs and all. Hmm... tables are 6 feet long... I wonder if I should make it 4?

Expanding the activities topic for those who don't know what I'm talking about. Will plan on us doing the felt ponies then; just a table for those who want to do that, I don't think we need it all that structured, so long as kids get parental supervision? :) Art contest, host-pony photo contest, customs display... Got it! :D

Blackfrost, please add a section for sides, so I can be put down for the pop? That way folks know someone is bringing it along aside from Diana. Also, will need to have folks sign up for plates, cups, napkins, utincils, etc. :)

SapphireRain, if you want to bring cupcakes, or cookies, or anything dessert-iah, by all means please do! The more desserts the merrier! :D

I'll be going, I may bring my mom along although she is not into ponies she had a good time at the Fair.

I don't need a table, but there's several things I could bring for food. A veggie tray, shredded lettuce, a non-meat taco filling, gauc. Let me know which two are most needed!

There was some confusion on the guac in the chat, so my vote is the non meat filling and guac, if you can manage it. :)

Ok, I lost track of what I said I would bring, as far as food. We will be bringing salsa for sure. Erick makes a super hot salsa he calls Dead Man. It'll be hot peppers and veggies, but no raw tomatoes. (I believe it was mentioned somewhere in the chat that someone can't do those?) Won't be ghost pepper hot, but it's not for the weak of tongue.

I do have ponies posted here on the arena, and the pictures are on imgur.
Facebook has been great, though. Join one of the pony pages, i think i am in mlp collectors. Or just a vintage toy sales site. Easy to post pictures, chatty...
I am not sure why the loss of photobucket was so disheartening for me, but it was!

Something else I should ask, are we doing the dice game this time around?

I believe we are doing the dice game, yes! I have stuff ready to wrap, and am not bringing the dice. Bianca, do you have the fancy pink dice?

Dice game is yes! :D I've altered the activities page for any new ones to explain the game. So long as someone can provide the trays, I can provide the dice! ^.^

Were those cardboard box lids acceptable for trays? I will be packing my sale ponies in the boxes, so the lids are coming along anyway.

Hi guys, we should be able to make it.      Please put us down for 1 table.

We recently got back from London, so I'm a bit discombobulated, so I'll have to figure out what food to bring later.  I just wanted to pop in to save a table.  :)

I know Nimrodel and her husband are into board and tabletop games, and Erick is huge on them as well. Maybe we can do some gaming as a side activity, for whoever wamts to? We have a moderate selection of tabletop games we could pick from to bring.

Sounds awesome!  My husband would be thrilled to play board games with people!

PonyQueen:  Will you be able to bring that picture?  Sorry we haven't been able to meet up so that I could get it.  Busy summers are busy.

All: Speaking of picture, I am preparing a line-art for the coloring contest, assuming that's still going to be a thing? If not, please stop me before I do all this scanning and gimp work...

About two weeks left!

I don't have time to arrange the felt ponies. I did, however, find another craft that is lots of fun, and involves razors and super-glue. It will also not involve razors, if you prefer it. I can also bring hot glue, so you don't have to handle super glue.

I know I am part of the confusion, but are we doing a raffle? Should I bring something for the raffle? Or are we just having a jar asking for donations for the site?

Ponyqueen- I'm not sure if this has been answered yet, but yes, please bring lineart/coloring sheets! Your TB art is adorable, and I would love to color it!

I am going to look at the site tomorrow, to see how much space we really have. I will make sure there are a couple extra tables sitting in back for when we need them. This site usually hosts non-sale parties, things like birthday parties or wedding dinners. Not full wdddings, i don't think it is quite big enough for that. I will report back after my visit!

I think there will be a few kids coming, and I am planning to bring an extra castle and some accessories. Got some stff to add to that? Awesome!

 And don't forget free things!

Do we have all the stuff for taco bar yet...I got 4 bags of chips and 3 cans of refried beans....now just need to make sure i remember can opener...haha

Post by: Aurora on August 29, 2018, 10:41:57 PM
I know a lot of people are getting their last-minute things now, so as far as the taco bar goes, we still need cheese and sour cream and lettuce. I am going spice shopping tomorrow, and I really feel like I am pushing it for timing, but I can't make the meat too far in advance! So Wizzer, I think the chips and beans should be enough.

Marla gave me a tour of the site today, and it is amazing! It has all sorts of room for everything we could want to do, separate areas for eating and vending, and bathrooms! Plus a popcorn machine that Marla got a good deal on renting, so all the popcorn you can possibly consume. Consider that a challenge! The only area we are not going to use is the golf simulator, and it will be blocked off, but it is worth mentioning here that if we break it, we will not be welcome back.

I am going to bring a jar to put donations into- Marla paid for this out of pocket, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop $5 into the jar sometime during the day. (More if you want, less if that is all you can afford, of course! This is a free event, but Marla shouldn't have to fork out all the cash!)

The Starfire Event Center is what I looked up on Google Maps and it took me to the right place, so you can trust Google this time. It is at the end of 2nd Ave SW in Waseca, MN. There will be a pink sign at the corner of State Street and 2nd Ave SW, and another sign at the entrance we will be using. There are three steps, but also a ramp for wheeling things up and carrying them in. We are going to use the space in front for loading and unloading, but there is a wedding there later in the day and we need to park a little further away to give the wedding party places to park. I am trying to line up a nephew for that--- do you want him dressed like Link, or like a normal person? Well, as normal as my family gets, at least.

Sapphire- I'm really looking forward to these cupcakes! And Tropical Breeze looks lovely!

Alright, call me crazy but...the nephew is going to dress up to help unload/load things correct and not to crash the wedding party? Because if they are going to make an appearance, I demand they dress up as Link.

If I were getting married and Link (or any Nintendo character) showed up, I would be absolutely honored.

I will let Chris know that an official request for the Link costume has been placed.
Nim, I wouldn't mind taking a look at the Pretty Parlor! I would love to see if it is sturdy, and what the subtle differences are.

Hi SilverGlade, would you be interested in the 35th Anniversary wave 1 ponies?  (Butterscotch, Blue Belle, Minty, Snuzzle, Blossom, & Cotton Candy.)  I'd sell them for $12/each if you're interested.  :)  They were originally $9.99 +tax.

MISSING PONY ALERT!!!

Hi guys, I got home and discovered that I am missing one of my HQG1C ponies.     It's the black sitting pony with bright pink hair.  Can you please check and see if it was accidentally dropped into someone else's box or bag?  Things tend to move around and fall on the ground, so I'm hoping someone saw it.

I'm pretty bummed that she's missing,   :wail: :wail: :wail:  please help her find her way home.

On a more positive note, Aric and I had a GREAT time seeing you all!  Thank you Marla for reserving such an great location!  And thank you all to the people who organized the meet!

And thank you, thank you thank you for the kitty time, ladies!  I've dearly missed having a cat, and getting to play with kittens all day just really made my year!  *big hugs*

Nim, I keep hoping someone else will find her- I have so many boxes to dig through, so little time!
But I finally got to go through SOME of the boxes last night, and haven't found her yet. I messaged a few of the people who aren't on the arena very often, and hopefully they will look too. I have asked both of the kids, as they are KIDS and move things, but neither of them really paid much attention to the sale tables. If you have any suspicions but aren't willing to mention them here (especially if they are about me or the kids!) please feel free to pm me. I honestly hope she got tossed into one of my boxes, it will be such a relief to find her!

Other than that, this was a good meet! Maybe a little smaller than some of our past meets, but quality is more important than quantity, and kittens beat out both of those! Thank you to everyone who was there, who helped, who played with my rambunctious kid, and who brought delicious food!

Thank you so much for looking Aurora!  And also for messaging people who aren't on the Arena very often.  *big hugs*

No suspicions, honestly, I don't believe any of our group took her on purpose.  All of you are awesome, wonderful, trustworthy people.  I think she fell off a table or got dropped somewhere, so I'm just hoping someone will randomly find her in a bag or box.  :)    Before I posted, I went through everything, all of my bags, boxes, etc.  I dumped them all out of the floor and my husband and I searched through them, just in case.  I guess she wanted an adventure.
