Okay, this was mentioned in the Loyal Subjects thread but I thought it deserved a thread of its own because it was a pretty cool example of a MLP being in a TV show.
"The OC" was a teen drama that started in 2003 and ran for a few years. Disclaimer: I never watched it so everything you are about to hear comes from secondhand internet knowledge, lol.
Basically one of the girls on the show, Summer, had G1 Princess Sparkle, and her crush, Seth, had a Breyer horse called Captain Oats. And they were sometimes used as a metaphor for Summer and Seth's relationship.
Here are some screenshots I found of Princess Sparkle (or references to her):

:haha: That is so funny! Is that a Breyer?
-
Hehe, I've heard about her being on the show before but never heard specific details. That's amazing XD
I wonder if that's why Princess Sparkle is on so much retro merch.. I did think she seemed like an odd choice, but this would probably explain it...
-
That's what I think. All of the other retro ponies are from the first 2-3 years or from the show, so that makes Princess Sparkle the odd one out.
-
I love the part about him combing Princess Sparkle's hair. His Breyer doesn't have brushable hair.
Poor Princess Sparkle desperately needs a good scrub, and I think we can sunfade that pink mark.
Oh hey look, the other girl has a Care Bear.

And this folks, is how you detect a pony collector

I was thinking she needed a good scrubbing too.
I've heard not good things about Breyers brushable horses. Like the fact that they don't believe in using tail clamps. Xo

This thread makes me feel old. It's really that long since the OC aired? My sister was a huge fan of it as a teenager and I remember the Princess Sparkle stuff coming up in discussion in the community before but I hadn't realised how long ago it was.
I have seen the series because sister gave me the DVD to watch after the pony appeared in it. Seth and Summer were a pretty quirky couple which were sort of a mismatch anyway.
It's not the only time a pony has appeared on a TV drama but it is possibly the longest running appearance.
Flower Bouquet made a cameo appearance in the swimming pool of the Brittas Empire leisure centre once. At least, I think it was Flower Bouquet. It was a MGR anyway.
Whatever happened to that time when G1 ponies belonged on TV sitcoms?
-
I remember seeing that MLP on The Brittas Empire! I think it was Sweet Lily, though. Definitely someone in the Posey pose. A kid was taking her into the swimming pool, I think?

Yes!! That. Something like that. And it was definitely a Posey pose pony. I thought it was Flower Bouquet but I may be wrong. It was a very long time ago, at least 20 years now as Brittas ended in the mid-late 90s I think.

Truly the best TV couple.
-
When the OC started, Princess Sparkle skyrocketed in price! For some time, she was routinely $50~ I believe. Likewise with Dazzleglow, because of Boy Meets World

Ok I watched "boy meets world" and I don't remember this! There was a pony appearance?
Truly the best TV couple.
LOL! I can get behind this! That Captain Oats, he's so dreamy.
-
Oh man, I never had any interest in that show before, but now I want to watch it!
-
Me too.
And, thanks Jorgito!
