My sister first got Apple Jack, a sea pony, and baby Moondancer. That's how I first met and fell in love with ponies. Then I got Windy and Pinwheel, then Paradise, Magic Star and some others. But because I was a boy, I was made fun of and forced to get rid of them. A few years later, I tried getting into ponies again. I got three sweet berry ponies, Magic Hat, some others and I mailed off for and got mail order Star Hopper and Clipper. But then again I was made to get rid of them. Then in college I met baby Yo Yo, and it started all over a third time.
It seems like so many of the oldschool collectors have left the hobby; it makes me kind of sad. I always enjoy these threads that reassure me there are still some other oldschoolers around.
I love reading these stories :D
I grew up with G1 ponies! Unfortunately I was at the tail (get it pony tail) end of G1. So they are what I would consider my childhood ponies but I was limited in purchasing them (I was 3 in 1991 when I got my first pony and they stopped making them in the US). I believe since I loved G1 so much and tried to get them when I could barely find any in stores... it was partially what helped fuel the collecting urge. G2 I would still count as growing up but I was kind old at the time (10 years old) so they were always secondary in my herd to the G1. G3 for me was the major "collecting" time, I was old enough to transition to full collector. :D
But overall... I grew up on G1 ponies.
I'm glad this thread was created. I was starting to feel so old seeing how many replies were on the G3 thread. XD I'm so glad we have so many young collectors now though! :D
@Einhornbaby, did you have Baby Blossom as a childhood pony too? :D You and I are the same age.

Bought her from a flea market back then (still vivdly remember which one and who was with me, lol). I wanted her SOOO badly for years but she was out of stores already when I heard of her. You cant imagine how amazed I was to get her when it happened <3 :D Lol and I remember my friend giving me a strange look when I showed her Baby Blossom, haha. She was like "Whats that boring thing??" :P
I grew up with G1 as well. I have home videos of me running around with Peachy as a toddler watching rainbow brite with my sister. I have a deep unending love of everything gen one and I still have my childhood peachy to this day. Her hair is thin, she's been chewed on my me and multiple pets, but she'll never leave me!

I need to do a proper photoshoot of her. Maybe I'll get my daughter to do it with me today <3
Thanks SkyCakes! I actually REALLY want that set for her, but I can never find it when I have the money. Maybe I can trade for it with some ponies I have in my trade bin but- that's a nicer and harder to complete pony wear set.

I only have an extra hat and the shoes.
I did as well. However I dont remember seeing them in stores, only a plush parasol. strange, huh?

-if anyone has it for sale or trade, give me a poke?-
Also, I agree with the thread having a bittersweet feel to it. To add further angst, I'll share a poem I wrote about growing up and mlp when I was just turning 20 nearly 13 years ago now.
In memory of Pony Land
a place I often sought
the place seemed long abandoned
but I never quite forgot
Flutter Valley caught my eye
wings that beckoned me
the playtime’s songs and innocence
of Lullaby Nursery
And times spent within the walls
of dream castle fresh in mind
Majesty there by my side
a place I could always find
Growing up takes some time
but it didn’t take long enough
I used to say ‘I want to grow up’
and then fate called my bluff
I stare at lifeless ponies
all lined up for show
tears slipping from my eyes
unable to let go
The world moves on around me
still I cling to the past
hold dearly to to my little ponies
to make those freedoms last
This thread warms my heart :lovey:
My ponies are some of the only toys I remember playing with (next to my Jurassic Park toys) and fill me with joy. I don't know about you guys, but when I find a MLP from my childhood, I get that feeling again from when I was a kid and I cherish it.
I would set the VCR to record the Disney channel when it was on free preview to get access to the My Little Pony tv show.
Born in 1989. I remember when I was three I was diagnosed with type one diabetese. I was in hospital, when they discharged me from hospital one of the nurses brought me baby lemon drop as a going present along with a VHS copy of My Little Pony Return of Tambelon.
I still have my very first G1, Swirly Whirly.
Later I collected all the other Sundae Best ponies because I loved Swirly so much.
:) I grew up with G1 ponies and I'm lucky enough to still have my childhood collection
