I agree. Girafarig just looks creepy. I’m glad they redeveloped it. Kinda wonder what those scrapped, never made it into the game Pokémon were supposed to be. I used some of my knowledge from Japanese class to see what I could gather about the scrapped ones, (please excuse any errors. Fonts like that are somewhat difficult to read, and I am a beginner) and in order their names are:The spreadsheet I'm looking at has translated name (not sure if they are accurate) but the English names for Kotara and Raitora are Tigrette and Electiger (they both look like some sort of tiger mouse hybrids XD). It's quite possible that this line was an early design for a later Pokemon line.
Rinrin, evolving into berinrin. Possible reference to the large bells they both have?
Kotara, evolving into raitora. Seems like a somewhat pikachu looking Pokémon, so the rai part might be from the Japanese word for thunder.
Sorowara (I think), evolving into kyonpon. Not entirely sure where that came from
Urifun, evolving into waarifu. Again, not sure on the origins of that one.
The Pokédex looking entry below I can’t quite translate. Give me a bit of time, and I’ll get back on that one, and see what else I can pick out.
But by far, my most favorite alpha pokemon is Dandemew, or proto-hoppip. It's part cat, part flower, ALL ADORABLE!I think most people who played Secret of Mana would agree that the concept of the Hoppip seemed to be inspired by the Rabbite XD (and I still want to add a t to Hoppip)
I actually realllly like old girafarig. It made the name make more sense, and I love the evil side much better than the tail we have right now.I'm wondering how it would walk or more importantly, how would it go to the bathroom XD
I wish baby Growlithe, Meowth, Vulpix and Ponyta were real! Why did they scrap those?!You and me both with the baby versions of those 4. At least with Growlithe and Vulpix as they are some of the more popular Gen 1 pokemon
Electiger looks very goofy but I'd love to see him in the gams too.
So someone compiled some great fanart that is very similar looking to Sugimori and put it altogether and I thought I'd share.Oh man that is very cool! I would love to have that as a poster!
The one that I really wish were real is the proto-Raikou. TBH, I've never been a big fan of that legendary trio as they turned out. They're all quite over-designed when I set aside nostalgia.
I too wonder this...y’know, probably the same way as catdog. Or it just has no need to...no. It’s living, it eats, it must need a bathroom...why is thinking about Pokémon so hard?!I actually realllly like old girafarig. I believe the frilly manta ray was called Rayleep and was a Mantine concept. I do kind of wish we had that one.I actually realllly like old girafarig. It made the name make more sense, and I love the evil side much better than the tail we have right now.
I like the two-headed Girafarig too - it would make such a groovy plush! :D
The unused water Pokemon designs are really nice as well; that little frilly-looking manta ray is completely sublime and I love it.
Where are these english names coming from? Are they fan names? o.O
I LOVE the bell cats.. I so wish they'd made it to the final release. and omg the BABIES!!! Baby Meowth! Baby Vulpix!!! I really like proto-Girafarig too.. I wonder why they changed it, it's so much cooler than the final design (I mean, I love Girafarig, but, y'know).. and ohh man I've always loved Honooguma and those evolutions!!!!... and Twins!! So cool.. and proto-Leafeon, ooooh.. asdfghjkl I wish so many of these had made it into the final release!!!
aaaaaaa this demo leak is so EXCITING!!! It's been too long since I've been excited for Pokemon like this (wasn't really a fan of Sun/Moon) :D
ooohhh and I LOVE!! that fanart!!!! So cool, aaaa.
I think the english names are coming from the team that was keeping it to themselves? They are called Team Spaceworld and had the ROM which they were translating. They were going to release an english patch of it but it leaked before they were able to finish. There is a spreadsheet with names, info, links, sprites, etc. They've translated some names already, but some are from fans. I think.Yeah this is the spreadsheet I was linked to by a friend

i was gonna ask... wasn't Gold/Silver already released years ago? and ..also what the heck is up with some of these pokemon like the chikorita lineGold and Silver was released years ago. What was leaked was the demo that was going to be gold/silver before they made tons of changes.
Don't know lol. Like I said I don't think most of the stuff on the spreadsheet is 100% accurate XD

Kotora, surely, in that case, rather than Kotara?
I have been out of the loop on Pokemon lately so this is all news to me, but that just struck me as tiger is tora, not tara, and kotora would be baby tiger...?
Raitora would be electric tiger so that makes sense..?

Some of the designs are pretty neat and some are... um.. what the hey XDDon't know lol. Like I said I don't think most of the stuff on the spreadsheet is 100% accurate XD
