ok so hers the deal i ahve a large plushy grail purchae coming up.. and sevreal trips in the next few months so i'm putting myelf on a no buying anything that i dont need ban. (including ponys) this includes yard sale thrift store. regualr store online. but i cna't do it alone.. i need help! so whos with me1 who else wants to take on another 30 day pony challenge? well in my case.. a few months lol.

I'll join! I'm currently on a 6 month buying hiatus. Not saving up for anything special--just need to spend more time with work/family so am avoiding surfing ebay and sales listings :) .

XD I really should. Perhaps after the auctions I'm stalking on eBay finish (Roughly tomorrow or early the day after), I'll enact a pony challenge while I'm shopping for the Wings n Things swap-- I can only buy ponies online if it's for the swap! I've been very pony-spendy lately...

lol I've gone a bit overboard buying ponies lately too. I won't buy any in February, IF I end up winning this giant lot of g1s that I'm watching on eBay. If I don't win it, I'll just cut back a bit instead. :P

I just did a big purchase-fest here on the Arena... So once I pay for my last item and ship off the others for trades, I shall join you :D
My fiancee and I recently managed to get our local comic book store to invest in selling blind bags, They are selling really fast too! (they are selling Wave 5 BBs for 3.99 there) so it's gonna be tough.

well it starts when you get the ticker and put your offical date to start! like mine started a couple days ago. you just say hey i'm starting now! but its all personal choice really. and were all here to cher everyone on! this is acutly my 2nd pony challege.. the first one i've started but 2nd i've been in.
but oficalty its started! i know that some people set little ruels for thesmelves depending on circumsstnces. someone did no blind bags.. i know the last time i did it trades were ok. but no flat out buying. but this time for me.. not even trading lol just completly cold turkey. but ones that are given to you. or ones that are purchased for you as a gift are fine ^^ i'm wiating on a few large boxes from a friend lol

In the meantime, I found an online classified ad for a pony lot for sale locally. Not nearly as many ponies and no boys, but it's a great price and I don't have most of them. Better get my fix now! ;)

Ever since I did the last one in like Sept of last year, my pony buying has gone done dramatically. I've bought the Funco ponies, Design a Ponies, some blind bags, and one mini- Newborn pony. They weren't just for me either, most were for gifts.
The challenge really made me think carefully about which ponies to buy and spending money in general.

Ergh, this is going to be tougher than I thought! But I successfully fought the urge to go by the thrift shop on my coffee break today. :angel: That's one day... and it helps that I got ponies in the post that I'd bought before I started on this challenge, too. :newpony:

I have the same issue I'm feeling thrift store deprived. I live close to 4 thrift stores 5 if I head out to one of my family members.. Its a a lot of temptation because the one store almost always has big bag of toys.

I'm sorry to say, I got ponies... a whole bunch of McPonies... but I didn't pay for them, I only paid for their airfare. :blush: Still, they're the only ponies I've arranged to obtain since I signed up for this. I haven't been near the pony sections of Etsy nor eBay, and I'm even staying outta the thrift shops! I'm doing not-too-badly, and I've even sold some ponies... but...
It's so difficult!

i'm doing good ^^ havn't bought any pony stuff or spent any money. yet *crosses fingers* though i have had temptation. but i havn't really gone thrifting or o the fleamarket or anywhere to actuly buy them and be tempted so that a good thing. hte good news is i almost have enough to pay for frilly. just a few more months to go. :yikes:

i'm doing not too bad. I haven't bought any ponies yet, gone thrifting yet (lack of transportation helps with that) I've been having packages come in that I have paid for before the pony-buying-ban started, so that helps me out.
I'm signed up for my first swap :) and it's for collections other than ponies.

I found lots of cool new ponies in a store today but I resisted the temptation to buy any! They had white Princess celestia & Princiess Luna, talkign pinkie Pie & th ecolor yourself ponies! It wa sotugh but I go tout of there without giving in and buying one! :)

Oooo, everypony's doing so well! I have the willpower of a slug. I came sooooooo close to going thrifting today, it was only my coworker who kept me from giving in. -_- I don't know if I'm going to be able to do this.
(Mind you, here's a situation in which, if I do fail, something good comes out of it: ponies! :lol:)
Seriously, however, I'm trying my bestest, staying off the online sites and stuff, but the thrift shop thing is going to be really hard. I love thrifting, and not just for ponies, but for all kinds of treasures for my son and I, like books and games and stuff. Plus, I keep envisioning someone having dropped off a box of G1s, and them sitting there for like, a week before getting cleared off to some other thrift shop or worse yet, a landfill... :freak: I have a too-vivid imagination... :blush:

I might be breaking my no pony buying soon!! I occasionally (like every 3 months) text a guy who says he has a storage unit full of pony's. He didn't have them at a sale, me and my dad went to, so I got his number. He was dealing with his father being sick and passing but it's been a while and I just got in contact with him and he said soon. He had a lot of toys from that area and he seemed somewhat knowledgeable about pony's. I really hope it works out but part of me doubts it..

I've paid for a few baits that I had inquired about before signing up, but other than that I've been avoiding temptation. No visits to ebay or the sales thread, and I've told myself a few times that I have no reason to visit the thrift store.... I've tried to feed my craving by completing some unfinished custom projects--finished G3->G1 Port-o-Bella yesterday!

Went on a thrifting spree to get one last fix before the challenge, and DAMN did I ever clean up! Seriously...go check out my brag. :accomplished: Anyhoo, I had my fun today and I'm starting my challenge early. No buying ponies until March 1! (Not counting issue #3 of the FIM comic book, trades, or the box of blind bags that I ordered on the 5th and STILL hasn't shipped.)

Ponypeople, I indulged in some retail therapy yesterday, and I hang my head to admit it: I bought some ponies.
Fail. >_< Well, sort of. I did get my first Glow 'n' Show, and my first Rockin' Beat... and Princess Serena/Aquamarine! But as for no pony buying, definite fail. >_<
I'm sorry; I guess I just don't have it in me to go a whole month! :blush: But hey, I made it 18 or so days, that's actually pretty good for me. ;)

Suiter? Fursuiter?! I fursuit too! ^.^ Never been to a convention though.
So far so good! I've been sick this week though, so I haven't even been tempted to go shopping. Instead I took on another challenge...Draw Every Day in February! I'm FINALLY attempting last year's EQD Artist Training Grounds and I'm quite happy with my results so far. I'll make a post about it in the Pony Art section later. (Note to self...buy a scanner.) If nothing else, it's a nice distraction. :art:

I've actually been enjoying the ponies I do have more. I have deboxed my Applejack barn and put it on display and deboxed Trixie and am making her a custom outfit! :)I think sometimes we are so busy aquiring more ponies we neglect the ones we have which surely is the whoel point of having a collecition so you can enjoy it?!

I did a no no. I picked up a pony before I got sick this week. She was a g2/ my frist and in the end it cost me about .50 cents. I picked her up for trades but I guess it ruined the no pony's for 30 days. I've been working on cleaning out my room and I've gotten rid of a ton of ponies about 40 so far.

@ Lorelei Redfern - Kinder eggs? Is it true that you can't get them in the US? I heard somepony I work with say that they couldn't even bring them over the border 'cause the customs officials said no... though I suppose they can't search *everypony*... ;)
Anyway, if I can't send them, I'll send loads of Kinder chocolate (the kind with no toys) and some of the toys separately. :ninja:
And thanks - I feel better about buying ponies. They made me feel better, too - I'd just had a bit of a row with my father and really needed the pick-me-up (you'd think, in my forties, I'd be past that, but nooooo...).
@ LR & silverdragon: I don't suit, and my buddy doesn't either (yet), but he runs with a pack out of Boston and he's enjoying the con scene, so I get to enjoy it vicariously. We keep joking that if either of us hits the lotto jackpot, he'll wind up with a full fursuit out of it, and I might just get a pony costume made (why not?). But that'd take being idly rich. :lol:

well if you guys need tails. i can make them ^^ and yes you cnat buy them in the us becuaes apperntly the kids here eat them >< but yes they are consdered contraband.. lol but i had soemone last year bring me three boxes from canada. and they didnt have any trouble crossing the borer with them. i think its just ifyou have them visable. i think if ther packed away they should be fine.
and Sugar. i know that feeling! ponys are my pick me up ad make me feel better too!
and kakenenterprise if you bought it to trade then your still good. if you dont intend to keep it.

More or less! Just pick a date to start from, and then NO PONIES for a month. Harder than it looks.
Case in point, I just failed dramatically. But it was Nightmare Moon! And she was a reasonable price! *cries*. I'll add another day onto my challenge to make up for it.

Now I have lots of things to look forward to with the fall line coming out for G4 :D there's the Princess Coronation Castle, The Shadowbolt Exclusive, the new Favourites Collection and this years Con-exclusive pony. I'll give me a chance to have something to look forward to for my collection.

I'm so happy i've been able to aquire lots of ponies at second-hand shoppes over the past few months, It gives me good chances to have things to trade on here so I don't have to pay out the nose for the ponies I want/can't find.
the only thing I really have to pay for on my end is shipping, and it makes someone else happy :)

I'm having a much easier time with this than I thought I would. If I let myself think about it too much, then I go nuts thinking OMG I'M MISSING AWESOME STUFF AT VALUE VILLAGE!!! Hasn't really been an issue though...I was sick as hell for the first 2 weeks and not even tempted to leave the house, and this week at work has been BRUTALLY busy so I'm too tired to shop after work. It almost feels like cheating. :lol:
I did hit up Michael's one day and bought some stuff for my ponies. Got a cute bow for Applebloom's hair, and new wings for Rosedust.

I think I went MORE than 30 days! I started my challenge on January 15th & I didnt' buy a single pony 'til yesterday which was Februry 18th! Yay! I'm proud of me :)Proves it can be done! I found a G3 pony yesterday in a flea market in town. I'm nto sure which one she is but she doens't have a magnet thank goodness! I'll post a picture of her when I get her cleaned up :)I wish everybody else good luck with gettign through their 30 day challenge!

I too need to start the challenge over!! I came home from a long weekend to a box of ponies my dad picked up for me. I think he did pretty good but we did have to have the gen talk. He can't seem to get that this is gen 1 etc, its funny and frustrating. I partially think he does it on purpose.

lol aw i think its sweeet. my dad acutly can tell a real forma fakie quite well! XD but he ussualy finds me gen3. as that is what he sees the omost of. my mom ont he other hand picks up anything. i have ammased quite the colelction of lanards. XD

I'm going on a cruise in November, so all my money is going to be going on our credit cards and in our saver account for the trip, as well as paying off the tickets themselves! I have until the end of the month, then it'll be absolute steals only until after the trip, and probably not then either, because Christmas will be so close! So it'll be a stingy pony buying year for me!!

raindrop i see your coutner is about as long as mine lol mine when i started was three months ^^ and now i'm starting my second go till july o.o i had to go such a logn time i diecded to break mien up into to parts lol.
and yeah we all are doing did pretty well! i consdier this was very sucessfull! my thrift shop ont he one day i went had nothing lol. and yep i knwow hatcha mean about wallmart. i liek to look but thers nothing i really Want at wallmart lol
stormness lol your in luck if your not too fond of the prices for g4. or g4 in gnereal. its been cheap ponys for me! but you know you dohave to give yrouself a reward after not buying anyhting for awhile so picking up osmething here and thre for a quarter 50 cents thats good little i can do it type thing.

My challenge is up and I'm going shopping this weekend!!! :party:
Yesterday was the hardest of the whole challenge. It was an extraordinarily hard day at work, and the job site was right next to a TRU. I was in a pretty foul mood by the end of the day and I REALLY wanted to buy something to cheer myself up, but I held back because I didn't want to blow it on the last day.
The odd thing is I didn't really save any money from this. Instead of buying ponies, I fell in love with Jubilations Dinner Theatre. At least the next show I want to see isn't until late April. ;)
