Unfortunately I just didn't feel a connection with this guy, so he's now looking for a new home. I spent so much time perfecting his custom outfit...hopefully he'll find someone who will appreciate him even more!

So I ended up getting my Hujoo Freya a little before Christmas! "Because I already know what it is" said my grandma who got her for me. XD She's got most of her faceup(still working on her lashes), I've made her wig cap, and I've started making wefts of hair for her. Not sure if pink is her color though, so I may scrap what I have and try another color. I ended up getting an Etsy gift card for Christmas too, so I already bought her a bunch of new eyes I'm dying to try. I thought she deserved her own eyes and not the older pair of Volks ones she has on right now.

So here's my current doll group now. My two DD+Obitsu boys, my non-BJD Dollce girl, and now Hujoo Freya! We're really feeling polka dots today for some reason. Freya may not stay with my vinyl crew over here though. She may get her own personal space for being so unique. The stringing is so new to me, she's been a lot of fun so far!

New thread, yay!!!

I've had my Lati pirate belle off and on for three years. She'd visit and go stay with someone else and then come back. I finally bit the bullet, brought her home for good and sent her out for a new face!

Thanks :) She's a Luts 2012 winter event with a nomyens face up. I actually got her on an impulse (she was a gift from my husband but I picked her) because I wanted a doll for Xmas and I'm so pleased I did, I love her more than I thought I would!

So... I might have accidentally re-ignited my love for Dollfie Dream after looking at all of the recent characters that they've come out with for the past couple of years. The Vocaloid dolls are especially cute, and if they ever make Luka, then I'm in serious trouble!

I think one of my New Year's resolutions for 2017 is going to be to save up enough money to bring one of these guys home.

Thank you. :)
I know, right?!  They're huge!
He works really well as a five- or six-year-old for them.  My dream is that they'll one day release a 17" Catrine and then my Freyr will have a mama.

*LOL @ doll censoring*  Is she really THAT accurate?

LOL  Well, nippies and jay-jays are not allowed on the MH Arena, and I wasn't sure if the same rule applied here, so I decided to post the censored version just in case.
But no, she's no more accurate than other BJDs. ^.^

I've finished my Hujoo Sara's face-up.

I wanted for her to fit in with my Frightfully Tall Ghouls and other 17" fashion dolls, so I went for a very different style than what I did on my Mystic Kids Lillian.  She got a sort of Pullip treatment. ^^;

So I just bought this doll head off ebay. And when it arrived i noticed a patch of the face up is missing. I checked the photo on the listing and you can make it out but you'd only be able to notice it if you knew it was there as the picture isn't great quality.

Am I just being picky? Don't know if I should say something.

Was it mentioned at all? If it wasn't I would definitely say something. Getting a new face up can be costly if you get a good face up artist.

Does anyone happen to know if Blythe clothes fit Freyrs/Freyas? I bought some standard YOSD clothes for my Freyr but he's practically swimming in them! I thought Blythe clothes might fit better since they're smaller, but I don't own any, and I'm too hesitant to buy some and try it out myself.

My Freya has worn Tangkou sized clothing and they fit pretty okay. Skirts fit pretty well and sleeveless dresses were a tad big/long in the chest/torso. Tangkous can fit Blythe clothes to some degree (a Blythe skirt fit mine perfectly and a shirt is a bit short/not tailored quite right but works). I doubt pants would fit, looser shorts might, skirts would probably be fine (longer would be better), looser shirts with large/no sleeves could maybe work. Not the most helpful info in the world but maybe it helps a bit?

I'm not sure about Blythe clothes.  I can tell you that Freyr can fit some older Ken shirts fairly well, depending on the cut.  Like '90s Ken, not the new Fashionistas.  Every Ken Fashionistas shirt I've tried on him has been way too big.

He can fit Ever After High boy shirts pretty well.  They're a tad big on him, but not too bad.  It's do'able.
He can't fit their pants because (a) they're too long, and (b) he can't get his feet through the narrow lower legs of the pants.

He can fit Barbie clothing perfectly, both shirts and shorts/capris.  I've tried several tops and bottoms on him and they've all been near-perfect fits.
So anything in the Barbie range of sizing should work for him. :)

I love what you did with your Freyr, Saelave! His patterning is really cool!

All I got is a WIP of my Freya. Still haven't named the poor girl. Or got her a proper outfit. I bought her a bunch of lovely eyes from etsy, but sadly the Yo-SD outfit I got fit neither her or my Dollce girl. I have two odd sized girls.

Woo! Good doll find today. Turns out Freya fits well into the new clothes for the Shibajuku Girls doll line. The top was a tiny bit big, but I prefer it to look a little baggy. Skin tight isn't what I was going for. I like the look. I hope my local Target starts stocking their stuff soon.

I recently got some new outfits from Clear Lan-  I'm very happy with the fit and the quality!

I really love the fashions that people make for their dolls- and I like to make stuff too but I'm not a very good (okay terrible) seamstress so I like to start with a basic dress and then just add embroidery/beads/do alterations-  I think these dresses are perfect for that!  I started working on this one already- it's not nearly done yet but I'm liking how it looks so far!

The doll is from Marmite Sue/the Menagerie in "moonglass" - she's my first porcelain doll- I really like her (my wife finds my Marmite sue dolls including this one super creepy, but I think I like creepy dolls).

It is kind of a relief to not worry about leaving her in the sun or handling her and damaging the resin/paint.  But of course now I worry about her dropping and breaking (although according to the artist, if the break is bad she can actually re-fire her and mend breakages)  so that's pretty cool.

Thanks! Yes I did teh embroidery- I just used silver beading thread and various beads- I think adding beads and embroidery is a good way of making a super simple dress into something more special (especially if you are like me and your actual sewing skills are lacking)

Here's what I have been up to: a BJD head I started about three years ago but decided to finally finish during the coming summer. I call them Kaiho. They are a 1/3 sized head that can use 8-9" wigs and 14-16mm eyes. I plan to have them cast in resin after September.

My 1/6 bjd prototypes are complete! At least the bodies. Still working on fashion, shoes, wigs, and all the other details. Progress pics soon!
Can't wait to see!

Here's what I have been up to: a BJD head I started about three years ago but decided to finally finish during the coming summer. I call them Kaiho. They are a 1/3 sized head that can use 8-9" wigs and 14-16mm eyes. I plan to have them cast in resin after September.

Wow, nice job! Beautiful sculpt work- I'd love to see this doll finished!

It was mine too for several years! You certainly wouldn't envy what I had to pay to get it, ha.

I wasn't crazy about the markings... Figured I'd just repaint.  But the work is really nice so I've warmed up him. Good luck in your search... You have to be persistent. Few ever come up for sale as I'm sure you're aware, and there are only two I know of in the USA.

I can imagine!  Maybe one day.
Anyways, I decided to snap a photo of one of my new dolls.  I ended up with an unintentional hybrid of a Doll chateau Katherine with their B-07 body.  She's still blank, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with her.  I was going to turn her into a sphinx, but I don't know quite how much modding I want to do besides giving her tail back to her.

Thank you!  I always wanted to give a doll heterochromia and she seemed like just the candidate.  As for resin color, Katherine and her sister sculpt madeline were both event dolls from last year so second hand you'll see white/pink/yellow. They do, however, seem to be available for order on denver doll emporium, so I bet they could be ordered in doll chateau's normal range of human skin tones along with grey and mint green.

Everyone's dollies are so beautiful! Most of their sculpts are going to be added to my ever-growing want list. xD I especially love some of the more unusual ones.

My first MSD arrived yesterday, and I managed to get one semi-decent picture of him! He's a Doll-Love Kaja named Vish.

Now that the weather is getting warmer (slowly) I may be able to take some of my doll babies out and get some better photos of them all.

I've made a deal with myself that this is the year I'm gonna get on top of my BJD collection. Get everyone finished and rehome the ones I'm not doing anything with. But I'm soo confused as to what direction I want to take my dolls or who is going to go.. argh! How to decide??

Does anyone else have a grip on their dolly plans? Or are you more disorganized, like me?

I am super disorganized! Right now I have several in progress faceups, dolls sitting naked, no idea what I'm doing. Well, I am trying to figure out who I'm finishing first because the PNW BJD Expo is in a month and someone needs to come with me!

I am quite disorganized in collecting in general, whether it's dollies, or ponies, or other things. xD But I jump around from hobby to hobby, and thankfully most things have been something I can go back to later, so I jump from thing to thing and eventually either I get things finished off or plans change completely and stuff takes on a different (hopefully better) direction.

Thanks! I'm quite picky about fangs on dolls too, but his are not real bad and I love his face-up so much that I could've probably overlooked them anyway.

I'm in doll buying purgatory right now. I found a doll I fell in love with but the for sale post was from October of last year so I figured it was just an old post and he was probably long gone. I sent a PM anyway and was very pleasantly surprised when I got a response that he was still available! I wrote back asking for a shipping quote last Wednesday morning. I still haven't heard anything back D: I really want this doll but now I'm worried. If communication is this slow I'm not sure it's a seller I want to work with - and it is NOT a cheap doll.

I did buy this guy, though. He's a dollshe 18M fashion - a scaled down MSD version of their SD sized dolls. I don't know that any of the 18M dolls in this body style have been produced yet but what I've seen of the other body styles they are all super nice. He's my most expensive doll to date, but he is the first doll I'm buying for a really specific character so he had to be just right.

Yup! They've got quite a few models available in fashion size (38-44cm kind of range). I know they've had some 28M ones out for a little while and they look amazing. I'm planning to get a 28M eventually too I just haven't quite decided on sculpt.

That's awesome too!!  I can't wait to see them when you're done!  :)

TwistedRiver, your little girls are adorable!  I have quite a few Ai dolls too.

NoDivision and TwistedRiver your boys are so handsome.  I haven't gotten a boy bjd yet, though I'd like to soon.  The Aimerai Weedy doll I'm getting will be my 4th girl.  I have 3 - 1/4s and a 1/6.  I'll have to post pics later.

How many of you have 1/3 size dolls?  I've been wanting to get one but they are so big!  Funny thing is, I think the biggest reason I want one is because sometimes I'll see doll clothes for a 1/3 that I love, but don't have a 1/3 to put it on.  XD  Granted I do see 1/3 dolls I love but have never made the leap to get one because of the size or the price!

Thanks so much.
I don't have any 1/3 dolls, and don't know if I will get one, (still trying to wrap my head around the idea of owning a doll so large) I've fallen in love with a couple but the one I'd want most is DoD Duncan (believe he's 1/3) but I don't know that I will ever have him. I just recently got Vish and he's my first 1/4, other than that all of my bjds are Pukifee sized or smaller.
My collection is about half and half boys/girls but only two of my boys are "human" the other two being a Pipos Jr Cheshire and a Hujoo nano Freya.
So excited for you to get your Weedy so I can see pics xD

When I was searching for the perfect male doll for making this pair of characters I kept falling in love with 1/3 sculpts. There are some seeeeeriously good looking dolls out there (looking at you, Dollshe/5th Motif Venitu!) But I have a hard time connecting with even MSD size dolls, so I was pretty certain that SD would not work for me.

The only trouble is that now my serious pouty-face Bygg looks soo sad next to her colorful new friend. I hope she'll look a bit better when she gets her purple wig!

He is most definitely going to be John Constantine, heh.

That's what I thought. Great choice of character!!  :lovey:

Your girls are so sweet! Love them both! That purple color is stunning!

So Tyra (name pending) is a Soom Cheshire, yes? May I ask which body is Bygg? I'm still new to BJDs and assume that she's the same make, but don't know the models. Those little faun feet are just too cute, though! I'd love to look up more photos of her. :)

Yes, Tyra is a Soom Jr Cheshire, and Lirael is a Soom Bygg. They were limited and long sold out from Soom, but can be found on the second hand market with a little luck! Do look them up, they are gorgeous dollies! :)

Soom teenies do come up second hand quite a lot - all but one of my soomlings has come from the secondhand market. This little gal is probably my favorite of my teenie gems. But don't tell the others ;)

OH! Silly me, I thought Bygg was her name, rather than the make! My mistake. She has super cute little legs. :)

Where have you had the best luck with second hand buys, out of curiosity? I've talked to other BJD enthusiasts and collectors who have each given different answers, so I'd love your feedback on that front.

Den Of Angels is where I do most of my shopping. 2 of my dolls have come from ebay. Wherever I shop I always check for certificate of authenticity and, if the seller is someone I'm not familiar with or doesn't have a lot of  feedback, I ask for additional photos.

Cheers. I had wondered last year if Den of Angels was still the go-to for buying secondhand, and multiple people have said that it is (with a few saying "well, actually, I buy from ____"). Last time I looked there was years ago on a whim, and it was just very, very intimidating to get started out. There were so many people who had basically lost all patience for newcomers, that I just kind of shied away and read individual blogs for a while instead. hahaha

What are your thoughts on people selling via social media like Facebook, Instagram or Tumblr? I've seen a people advertising sales on Tumblr and Instagram, and I know there are BJD sales groups on FB. Obviously, the same safety precautions apply, but would you reckon they're more or less as safe as Den of Angels? Or does DoA really make use of the benefit of its specialised rules and regulations?

I'm in quite a few sales groups on FB and Flickr that are pretty active and I've listed things for sale on there but never actually completed a transaction through there. I have noticed that Instagram is becoming really active in doll activity lately and I have browsed sales on there too. I will say I just generally feel safer on DoA, especially for high dollar items. While it's possible for scammers to show up anywhere people tend to be more vigilant on DoA. Having a built in feedback system is great too - it's easy to see what kind of history sellers have.

I've had several positive transactions through DoA, but I've also bought/traded BJDs through here with success. Personally I would be hesitant to use social media without a feedback system!

I first saw her on mobile, so I didn't get to see all the details... but she looks stunning now that I'm on PC! :)

What did you use to dye her? Did the two hybrid portions take the dye fairly equally or was it tricky?

(Just curious, I have no plans for dying any dolls anytime soon, but it's good to know in advance what other folks have tried/had success doing.)

I used rit dyemore, and it's definitely what I would recommend! The different company resins did dye at a different rate (resinsoul took the dye slower).  Rit dyemore is potent but not too much so you have time to even out each part. That means I just held those pieces in the dye a little longer and I got the body to match the head. This in stark contrast to the other disperse dye I've tried, Idye poly.  Idye poly is stinkier and also extremely potent (one part for 5 seconds in a purple was bright!) I'd only recomend it if you want a super bright neon color.

A couple notes too for anyone who anyone wants to take a try at this-
I'd recomend a very slight all over sanding/buffing or swipe with acetone so the parts take the dye as evenly as possible, otherwise it can turn out a bit uneven and the sanding marks from the company will definitely take the dye faster.

If you want to dye a doll, going for a dark dark color is a lot more forgiving than a lighter color for an even tone.  My sheep centaur is a deep purple, and before I started painting it was super even amazingly enough.  Much better than when I did so in the past with a lighter purple on a different doll.

SaelaVe, your boy looks great and I love how similar in style your dolls are despite of being from different companies! :)

Here's one of my many girls, a Unoa Zero Latea with the optional demon horns. She needs a new name now that her character made a total turn from dark elf to a pastel demon-thingy.

That was one of the reasons that I chose the Akagi Doll.  His aesthetic was such a close match for Mystic Kids Lillian.  I like for my dolls to look as uniform as possible without becoming clones of one another. lol

He got new eyes today—10mm instead of 12mm.  They look a lot better on him.
Now I'm just waiting on his wig to arrive and he'll be complete. :D

Your Unoa looks awesome!  I love Unoas so much. <3

I love your blue-green lady!

The shopgoodwill doll was Soulkids XL Linn

Surprisingly, with a COA.  However, although it started out really low, it ended rather high, so I'm not sure the winner got a particularly good deal. Especially when it is impossible to know whether there are scratches or gouges in the resin, or color changes...

I guess I can post the link now that it is over

I have a question im hoping somebody can help me here!!!
im looking to buy a Pure Neemo M in "natural" or "flesh color" from Azone, but i really really dislike their default anime heads. does anybody know of any other heads that fit on Pure Neemos? or, is there a way to (mainly) affix a stronger nose onto a pure neemo head? I've heard obitsu heads fit, but none of them have the strong features im looking for.
also where to buy wigs?! am i better off making my own?

thank you!

Lots of heads fit the pure neemo bodies- they have I   which is why you can buy blank bodies.

People usually use them to upgrade their Momoko and Licca and other similar dolls- I've heard of people using them for Blythe too.

I even used one for my Lady Lovelylocks doll- it fit perfectly!

I have never heard of someone attaching  NOSE though lol??

i like the bodies but i dont like the weird lack of nose and strange flat anime heads!!!!!!!! i just want like a ..regularish looking head more like the Volks style heads?
i'm more insterested in THIS over this.

i don't mind the flat eye shape as much as the nose bothers me, so i was wondering if like, sculpting on an apoxy nose and sanding it flat would be a possible option ....

i like the momoko heads, though ;; do they fit on pure neemo bodies okay?
Title: Re: Ball Jointed Dolls Thread #4
Post by: Uninu on September 06, 2017, 08:56:03 AM
I doubt the nose would stay put, Azone heads are made of softer plastic than their bodies and taking the head off on putting it back on would most likely break the nose.

I tried how the Momoko head would look on Azone body, but the Momoko neck hole would need to be modified bigger so it would fit. The head is also smaller than Azone heads, but makes the whole doll seem more adult and mature than normal Azone dolls.

Back to resin dolls:
I managed to snatch last blank Chibbi Lana doll in marron glace color from Lillycat's surprise stock sale! I am so excited, I was not able to get one when they were released so I'm happy I get one now. Not sure of the name yet, most likely she will be called Latte. A friend of mine will be giving her a faceup and I have tons of Azone clothes that should fit her fine.

She got to me safely, even though her box was next to destroyed  :lookround: ah well.
I'll take some photos once I get her that wig I've been eyeing, and that gives me time to sew her some clothing  she's just so pretty I want to take photos now but she's not ready for her photoshoot yet

And NoDivision- your dolls are so lovely!! I love the photos and them  is that a Pippos in the middle?

I'm SCREAMING over here. I just got finished faceup pics for my dollshe grant philippe and he is amaaaazing. His head is really small so this level of detail and realism is really blowing me away.

For reference here is the size of his head

I got this little creature yesterday and spent the night putting it together and painting. I was overjoyed when Aileendoll made these super affordable tinies in their Plapico line. I love them, they are so fun to play with and to assemble. :lovey:

My other new addition is Lupin. He's a Narin classic/N401 head on a limho body. I've been wanting a Narin for a while now and feel very lucky to own this guy as he's one of the first releases of this doll and is about 11-12 years old.

I got my first BJD in 2003 (a Volks Sweet Dreams Lucas)  really I shouldn't have had such an expensive doll at that age... Anyhow I collected BJD till 2009, at my Max I had 13 or 14 now I'm down to 6. I haven't really taken them out of the box since then.

Well I have always wanted some more Alchemic Labo dolls so when Unoa Alchemy was having their January sale I bought L-bi and B-el on a whim haha. I just got the notice they shipped today.

Not that I need more dolls I don't play with, but now i can check them off the list. I am looking at the new Rowan girls too, I'm not sure if I will cave into one of them too haha

Ooooh a BJD thread! :D I'll show off my kids.

First up is my first BJD, Gillespie, aka Gillie. He's a Resinsoul Bao with the default factory faceup and eyes.

Next is Roman! He's a Resinsoul Gang with coffee skin <3 I really need to get him a faceup, honestly. He currently just has his factory eyes.

And here is a lovely Resinsoul Lian head I got from cederheart on Zone of Zen a couple years ago. She also did his faceup! He's still without a body, sadly.

im finally in the budget for a good sized bjd (30-50 cm) but i dont know who to pick  !!!
does anybody have any recommendations of dolls you like? I prefer "mature" dolls to "little kid" dolls, and i would greatly prefer a tan or ~colored~ (like blue or pink) doll over a white/peach doll. I like dolls that are a little unique, so like big hips or interesting faces...i dont buy into ethereal elf beauty that so many bjds have lol!
Ery by CULUR is one of my favorite dolls but shes not selling them right now ... but thats the kind of doll i like.

...anybody help? <3

Hmm, maybe you'd like one of the cerisedolls lillycat mid sized girls?  They're quite pear shaped and have been made in a few colors.

So, for you BJD fans that are married, how do you 'convince' your spouse that a doll is worth hundreds of dollars?

I have been looking at a doll off and on for some time now, and I think I definitely want it. (It's already got a face-up so no work for me, yay!)

I can afford it, especially with the layaway plan that is available.  I just, well, I sorta feel weird about it.  I don't need 'permission' to buy, but my husband and I always discuss larger $$ purchases.

Got any ideas for me?  It's a limited doll that isn't being made anymore, maybe lead with that?  Help me!  lol!

(PS - the doll is $400, in case that matters.  It's not a *crazy* amount, but it's a lot for 'just' a doll.  :P )

Um... my DH is big on spending money ONLY on the things that will make you happy in the long-term so he has pretty much said, buy a $2000 doll and be satisfied with the One Doll.  LOL  So I am still searching for ... that doll.

She's a Doll Family-A Kai :) haven't thought of a name for her yet.. and I need to find some clothes for her (anyone know what clothes fit these dolls?).. but there she is! OMG I love her *w*

(also I've been meaning to ask, are Hujoo dolls/other dolls made of ABS plastic welcome in this thread too or is it just for resin dolls? Dunno how many photos I'll be posting anyway, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for future reference, heh..)

Daphne is slowly coming together. The posing on them is so incredible. I have a photo of all 5 of them together but I don't think nudity is allowed here...

I'm already plotting to get more. Such a cool doll. Ridiculously fun to play with.
