Not a high priority at the moment, but I do want to get her eventually.

Have her. Mine came with about six different lengths of hair in her mane from the weirdest hair cut I've ever seen, so I had to rehair her in old Dollyhair shade Mulberry Crush. Because it doesn't QUITE match Bon-Bon's actual hair, I had to take out her tail & replace it wi a Mulberry Crush one. The tail was used though as my Springy came wi a bad mane chop too, so in went that tail hair & some nice Virgin Snow to fix that.

I want so badly! The Tales toon was part of my childhood and I always wanted Clover, Bon Bon, Patch and Sweetheart

I remember these in stores :D I only had one of them when they were actually released (Bright Eyes, from Woolworths in Barmouth, North Wales, in 1992) but my sister and I got the rest of them from a clearance store in London in 1995, and Bon Bon is the seventh of the seven, so to be fair we both have her :)
(Seventh because Starlight, Sweetheart, Melody, Bright Eyes, Patch and Clover. Bon Bon's baking cookies girls, hurry up on over)
It's the only one we both own.

Pass, unless I'd find her at a thrift store of course. I love her colours, symbol and pose, but the Tales ponies aren't my thing.

I never understood why anyone could think it's G2 considering the they don't have the same style has G2 at all

It's a silly misconception spread by bronies who think that the television shows define the generations -_-

I love Bon Bon, she's my favorite of the Seven Friends. I would totally love to have a toy of her (I'd like the whole set of the Seven Friends, as well as may G1s.) Note: I am referring to the animated Tales version when I say she is my favorite, but I'd still love the toy.

Pretty much yeah, finding out what Tales was and where it fitted in was an odd experience, but I understand it now. I at the very least thought maybe there was a G2 cartoon after all (if not I was certainly confused as to what generation Tales was when I discovered it), but at some point I got what was going on. The strange thing is, I already knew there was no G2 cartoon, but discovering Tales threw me off course.
I do understand bronies thinking the generations are defined by the cartoons - I had a longer answer, but it would take this thread even further off topic. Bronies also seem to have a habit of taking assumptions, or even misunderstood versions of what creators have said (this is only an example of the former) and presenting them as facts.

No. They make stuff up and then impose it on everyone else as facts.
As Ponybookworm said, ponies here literally just continued through 1992 to 1993 and 1994 and the Rockin' Beats went from being fantasy characters in the pre-Tales comics to band members in Melody's sphere and continued to be sold at the same time the Tales ponies were in stores.
Nobody says Sunset, Moondream, Baby Katie etc aren't G1, and they are literally the exact same catalogue toy range that came out at exactly the same time on the store shelves here. So are Princess Sparkle and Bridal Beauty, both of whom appeared in the comic Tales world, but never in the Tales animation.
It's not really understandable, because it's not like it's hard to find out how older generations really work. There's not really an excuse for ignorance by choice, not in my book anyway.
To put it another way, if an author writes a really popular book trilogy, and books 1 and 2 happen close together, then it's another eight years till book 3, you don't call it a different series just because of the time lapse. Not even if it is set in a different timeline from the originals, because it's still all part of that same trilogy.
Tales is like that.

Like I say, I have a longer answer, but I do understand it, at least in a way, due to how I basically came from that side of the fandom, so I can, at least at times, see things from the brony perspective, you are correct that it is ignorance by choice (at least at times), but I can understand why they'd initially think the generations worked like that.
Despite not quoting it, I like your points on why Tales is G1, and agree with your book series comparison.
