Oh, so they're G4 sized! I guess that makes sense.

eeee, they're so cute! Their eyes still look weird to me, though.

I watched your review and comparison. Excellent as always, I love the softer colors and different symbols. I'm glad to hear the hair is better quality, I don't mind Rarity's missing stripe. I'm a bit disappointed about the hard plastic, but, such is life.  I guess I'm the opposite of you, in that the pegasus heads bother me less then the unicorn heads. The horns seem different from both G1, G3 and G4. I like them. I'm gonna hafta get a pack for myself.

I got them too- they are cute- like the size of a baby pony!  The packaging is so pretty too

Putting them alongside the G1 really demonstrates that they look nothing like G1 at all :/

But I'm glad the quality is better than we feared it might be for the hair.

if anything, I think they look like the retro art! Which I think is super cool because it's really cute imo ^^

People keep saying that, but clearly I'm ponyblind because I absolutely can't see it. The art looks more like G1. The ponies don't.

I love the pegasus pose. It's too bad about the neck and wonky eyes though. If you style the hair and repaint it I think they would look awesome! I'd love to see customs made from these some day.

Mine come tomorrow, supposedly! I'm excited, but I think these will actually be worth $25. Mane6 sets are usually around $30 aren't they? And I'm sure this will go down in price even more.

They're ok.  The new retro art doesn't look much like G1 to me but they really did a good job designing these to look like a G1 pony - simple symbols, softer colors.

Oooo thank you for the review and the photos, Sunset! Mine arrived today too! I hope you don't mind I put my own thoughts on this set here, instead of starting a new thread. :)

Pros:
-I like the size and the price. I feel like $25 is a good price for six toys of this size.
-The box is just gorgeous. I am one who really dislikes the 'new' G1 vectors (especially since they lazily didn't put in the whites of their eyes), but I love the colors of the box and the rainbows. There's a cute little icon that says "My Little Pony est. '83" on the back.
-I really like that Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash and Twilight can balance in the rearing pose! That's so cool! That's something that I think wouldn't have happened if these were G1 size.
-The G1-style symbols. Of course. And the colors.
-Twilight has one color stripe in her mane, reminiscent of G1 unicorns.
-Those little plastic pieces they sew into the mane to hold it in place just falls out now when I tug the pony out of her spot in the plastic packaging. Nice!
-All around they are very cute and look good on display.

Cons:
-GAH I HATE how G4's and any other ponies made by Hasbro in this era have symbols on only one side!  :pout: If these are supposed to be retro, Hasbro, why didn't you put symbols on both sides!?
-No tail bows, even though the vector art has them.
-The G1-style pegasus wings cover up some of Fluttershy, RD's, and TS's symbols. Super annoying! They couldn't have designed a better mold? Maybe make the symbols a bit smaller and move the wings forward? Original G1 pegasus wings never covered up symbols.
-Although the hair is soft and nice feeling, I feel like it's a little too sparse. They're not balding, for sure, but they feel kinda like they have the amount of hair I'd expect on a fakie, not on a Hasbro product. Also, two of mine had small chunks of hair longer than the rest of the mane/tail, showing that Hasbro's quality control still isn't what it used to be.
-My Twilight, Fluttershy, and Pinkie have perfect neck seams, but Rarity, RD, and AJ have neck seams that don't match very well between head and body, leaving a bit of a lip around the neck. Another quality control issue, I guess?

Adorable! Glad to hear about the hair quality, too - I'd hoped as much, since it looked nice in the pictures. I'll definitely be buying this at some point.

Aww, they look cuter in real-life photos than they did in their stock images! I like how small they are  ^.^

thanks for your reviews guys, much needed and appreciated. i was so uncertain on these, i like the concept but now have decided to pass on them even though amazon has made it easy and affordable (well semi affordable) to post to New Zealand which has been super hard on a lot of 35th Anniversary ponies.
the hair, neck-lines and long dinosaur necks are the biggest put off.

wow, I did not know they were that small. I always thought they looked too strange to be G1.

I'm considering getting two of these... one to keep in box and one for customs later on... however not sure if I want to dish out 50$ for them XD
Maybe if Amazon has a sale?

They are cute.  I kind of want to redraw their eyes.  But the noses are very cute.

Yeah, I still say they're more G3 Dollymix with G1 wings then anything else.

I'm not asking anyone to destroy their ponies but I'd be super interested to see a G4/retro head swap.

They have that plastic bit that makes head removal more tricky- but the neck size appears to be the same. So basically they did some modifications to the original G4 sculpts for these.  Probably on a computer program.

It would have been much cooler if they had just used shrunken G1 sculpts, but I guess I'll take what I can get.

I think they're pretty and more reminiscent of G3 than G1 to me which means I still like them because I love G3 too^^

They look good. Was the hair good for styling and grooming?

It's very silky which makes it kind of slippery when wet and conditioned.  Since the ponies are so small, there isn't enough weight on the hair to make it lay the way I wanted without a little help.  I used wet paper towels wrapped around the neck to hold it down until it dried.  I cut it after styling it which I think helped with the forlocks.

They look great!  I was planning to style my ponies too- the stick straight hair is not very appealing, haha

I think the eye size and placement on them is off, which maybe is just on the pics I'm seeing in the thread so maybe it's not all but the eye also looks too large for the head. If you look at the side by side comparison Glory picture it just doesn't feel like it's in the correct location compared to original G1; way too low.

Also, the head shape for some reason still looks more like a G3 shape than G1 to me; and it looks oversized, it's just something about where the neck meets the body that looks a little weird.

The eyes are definitely way too low. It's especially apparent on my Applejack.

Yeah, the eyes are a little too big and the lack of eyebrow sculpting screws it up a little. Which is especially apparent on the unicorn and unipeg. The neck and chest are like the dollymix ponies. These girls are nearly all G3, save for the G1 wings and the weird ears.
