Title: Value of stickers?
Post by: Rik on July 12, 2019, 03:27:52 AM
These are all unused and on their original backing. Do they all have the same value? Or are some more rare than others?

Sweetie and Dimples and Ruffles were only available outside the USA, so they are fairly rare and much more valuable than the rest.  The ponywear stickers are probably the most common puffy stickers.  It’s been a little while since I bought stickers, so my pricing might be a bit off, but I’d probably price the ponywear stickers at $8-$10, and Baby Blossom about the same(though it looks like the sticker might be mis-aligned).  If the backing is flipped so that the sticker is stuck to the wrong side, that price goes down to something like $5.

For Dimples and Ruffles, I wouldn’t go below $20, and I might go as high as $30.

For Sweetie, I’d probably put that at $25-$35.  Puffy TE stickers are very hard to find on their backing.

Thank you so much!!
I'm amazed that stickers like these are so valuable, I almost threw them out LOL

I also have 2 that miss their backing (and that have been used)
Pinwheel: https://www.flickr.com/photos/161371062@N02/48264562126/in/album-72157709593385682/ (it has some of the back layers peeled off)
and Pompom pony: https://www.flickr.com/photos/161371062@N02/48264636432/in/album-72157709593385682/ (which has been used and it just missing its original backing

They probably really decrease in value if they've been used already, but I still saw some up on ebay, so;;

The ponywear stickers...I think...either mostly weren't or all weren't sold in the UK. Chrissytree would probably know for certain as she's the resident UK expert on stickers and accessories...but I am fairly sure most of those outfits in that form also weren't sold here, so you might have a better Europe-based market for those than US based.

Puffy pony stickers carried on in the UK and places where UK packaged stuff was exported to after they stopped in the US. So that's why some of the ponies are harder to get stickers for than others.

Sweetie's sticker should be more common than some of the other TEs because she was sold over 2 years but the reality is everything from the 1987 TE line - stickers, backcards, MOCs - are really rare so it probably doesn't make much difference. And she has the UK name so that's also a curiosity.

The twins are also sought after because of the misnaming on the sticker.

They're nice finds, definitely hold out to sell them to a collector :)

I actually don't think Pinwheel is that common either, sticker wise - but she's another one we didn't have here, so someone in the US will need to confirm. I feel like 2nd set Rainbows don't show up as much as 1st set ones.

I personally don't care about stickers on or off their backing, and have peeled many off buildings, playset pieces and accessories over the years - but there are some very hardcore serious sticker collectors who will pay more for them on original backing.

Do you know any collector users on here that might be interested in the stickers? I have a lot of stickers like these but without pony names too, and some double stickers for ponies that I do still have. So the collection is quite extensive

I think the ones without names on them are possibly even more uncommon, as I believe they are continental European, but this is where you'd really need an expert :) I personally only collect the UK pony puffies and I usually collect them in any condition from accessories etc so I'm the wrong person to ask about that.

Maybe you could post in the for sale section and see if anyone is interested here?

Stickers are extremely popular with a lot of collectors.  You should easily be able to find a home for most stickers. Even the common ones, or ones in less than perfect condition, have a market with newer collectors looking for a bit of novelty(though you have to price them fairly low).  They are incredibly popular in trades if what I’ve seen still holds true.

I’d certainly be interested in anything you have that’s not from the USA, or in original backing. Send me a PM if you like:)

Oh, and the Pinwheel sticker is uncommon, but the condition is an issue.  Somewhere around $5, possibly a bit less, maybe a bit more if you have the right buyer.  Ponywear stickers are generally more common, and less popular, so one in that condition will probably be something like $2-$3.

As a hard core sticker collector, I can confirm that original backing is a VERY BIG DEAL.  There are some collectors who only want stickers on their original backings, and they will pay for it.
