Title: Bumblebee movie trailer

Negative:

I wish they'd ditch the Bay aesthetic entirely.

The mute Bee shtick has worn out its welcome. He speaks in most continuities.

Neutral:

Christmas time is a strange release date. Most people will be too busy and broke preparing for the holidays.

I expect this to have some heartbreaking moments. Because Hollywood has decreed that we can't have a My-Alien-Buddy-And-Me romp without one.

Positive:

He's so damn adorable that my heart melted a little!

This has a E.T/Iron Giant/Short Circuit vibe. Which I'm perfectly fine with.

She treats him as a friend and ally and not like a combo of free ride/dog that crapped on the carpet/evil threat that must be eliminated. I can't. STAND the way Bay had people treating the Autobots.

No low brow humor.

Holy cow. These people actually make me wanna see this. I haven't said that about a Hasbro film since the first live action G.I. Joe movie.

The seeker looks awesome!

The movies are what brought me back into the franchise and Bee is my favorite. So this is something I've been waiting for. It's got the feel of the first movie, something that sadly got lost in other films.

TF World 2005 board has some of the tie in merch listed. He is so adorable and I'm digging they kept his black and gold coloring.

Do we know who is doing the soundtrack? This is gonna sound cheesy as heck but I live near some of the areas this was filmed. So it had me going "hey I know that spot....."

Sector 7! Been waiting for them to show up. I love, love the conspiracy secret government ops thing.

Do you guys think that's Starscream? He looks like Armada Starscream. Some are speculating that he's Ramjet.

I want to see it so bad, but I don't want to see it.. but i want to, but I don't.. I hated how the TFs was shown in the earlier films, I was soo dissapointed. Then came the dinobots and my excitement grew just to hit rock bottom after watching..  The trailer looks good, but so did the earlier ones also.. Gaaaaaaahhhh! >_<

I feel so dirty saying this but I am looking forward to this. It looks like it could be the first good TF movie.
It looks like Bee will be treated with dignity. And I didn't know it was going to be an 80s prequel. Say what you want about that 80s nostalgia wave but I like it. It fits Transformers.
I didn't know Starscream was in it! And he looks G1ish, too. Good, good. Hell must have frozen over for me to be saying this about Bayformers. Just wish Bee had a mouth. His snorkle thing always creeped me out.

I will avoid all discourse around this movie because it has a female protagonist who isn't sexually objectified or a prop so ~those kind of dudes will soon show up and say she's a bad character.

First thought: why Ramjet
Second thought: Thats totally Starscream. The headshape, red "vest" plus Starscream is a fan favorite who's been treated badly in the movies (just like Jazz and Arcee). So it would make sense to choose him as antagonist.

This movie already makes the others even worse. Like, why would Bee grow so attached to Sam if the short trailer already showed he had a way stronger connection to this girl. Did he develop a masochistic streak over time or what

That's Starscream IMO, he has Starscream's color scheme.

I thought the Bumblebee trailer looked really good, and I'm so happy to leave the childish T&A of the Bayverse behind.

But I am tempering my optimism because The Last Knight had its trailers cut to look like that young girl actress would be the main human lead, and then she wasn't, and then the whole thing was nonsensical and terrible.

Aesthetically Bumblebee looks sooo much better than the typical Bayverse robot, but he still has an ugly face. When will the pretty robot faces come back from the war??

It is just a shame that the Bumblebee movie is a prequel to the Bay movies (I think??).  Like, can we just pretend those didn't happen.

I just watched the trailer again and one thing that makes me really happy is that you can follow the transformation sequences.  I could be wrong, but I think Starscream's transformation actually mimics his G1 toy!  The Bayverse transformations just seemed like a bunch of junk moving around until they kind of glommed into a car or whatever.

The Bumblebee trailer also seems to have a lot more genuine emotion in it.  The way Bumblebee was scared of the girl and shielded himself from her really tugged at my heartstrings.

I wonder who they will get to voice Starscream (assuming that is him and assuming he speaks).  Sadly his G1 voice actor, Chris Latta, passed away years ago.  I wouldn't complain if they used Steve Blum (TFP Starscream) though!

Yeah the transformations look really good. What about the guy who voiced him in Prime? He gave him a very sleazy voice.

That guy was fantastic, wouldn't mind if it was. There is talk about other Transformers being it and I'm hoping they show up in the next trailer. Yeah, I liked TLK but it totally wasn't what the trailers showed *shakes fist*.

I know he would have his Bug alt mode but damn I wish he had that 69-ish version. I'm a sucker for classic muscle cars. Charlie would appreciate far more than Sam did and don't get me started on Mikalea. Waiting for half the fandom to hate on her because she appears to know her way around a garage and thus would be a threat to their fragile male egos.

They all carefully gave their faceplates to Optimus because they were afraid he'd just rip them off.

Charlie Adler voiced him before, he can voice him again.

 What a reveal. Even though Screamy better have a mouth and not a snorkle like BB. He needs to do that trademark crooked grin. I need this movie to be fanservicy as possible to make up for the previous messes. And if we get a scene with Optimus and he says "I... am Optimus Prime" I will punch a wall.
I would love to see more original 80s bots. Too bad my faves have already appeared in name only. Would have liked to see the actual nature loving Hound and not that... thing that had his name.

They've revealed 2 new decepticons. A pair of them to be precise. The red one is a girl named Shatter and the blue one a guy named Dropkick. They look okay. A tad generic but whatev.

Shatter and Dropkick don't make me go "WOW" or anything, but it is nice to see live action Transformers who have a significant amount of color to them and don't look like piles of junk, LOL.  Also nice to see a female TF.  IIRC, Michael Bay killed off movieverse Arcee in about three minutes because he hates female bots.  Ugh, that man.

The only good thing to come out of the Blitzwing / Starscream thing is a bunch of memes of Starscream tying up Blitzwing and taking his place.

Edit:  It's also nice that the two new Decepticons appear to have car alt modes.  I dig it.

Really? I didn't know that he hated female transformers? Its probably because Arcee didn't have any cleavage for him to zoom in on. He's such a turd of a director. Ugh!  :pout:

I'm not really wowed by them either, they kinda look like they're out for a nice jog.  Perhaps they'll be cooler in the new movie?

Haha! I nominate myself as your new Blitzwing! XD

For those that needed it, there's a third (European?) trailer with captions. Something that's been seriously lacking for those that needed English ones to get by.

This feels like the right mix of humans and bots with heart, something past the first film in 07 lacked. Also, all the retro G1 goodness of everyone's alt modes. That muscle car

I'd say more but will leave it to those who can parse out more from the trailer(s) than I can.

I gasped.
They look recognizable! And Soundwave is shooting Ravage out of his chest! My bar is so low I was like "holy crap! He isn't a tentacle monster?! I'm sold"

See what happens when a female writer and sensible director handle this franchise. You get female characters that are more than a set of DDs and robot characters that are humanized instead of being fartig, face-ripping edgelords.

I am sure this stupid movie is gonna make me cry. When he pet her head I was like d'awww.

So Michael Bay pretty much made his TFs the internet? :lmao: How did I not see that before?

Thing is, I'm not sure if those designs are for real though. They look so different (and much better) then the hybridized Classic/Bay designs of the other robots.

But I'll sure be glad if its real.

Of course it's real.
I guess Hasbro is looking for a soft reboot. If we are lucky future TF movies will look like this or better.

I think it's partially based on 80s nostalgia making a comeback but also the abysmal box office of the last TF movie compared to the ones that came before.

Also factoring in is the new direction Hasbro is under now. New bosses make for new content. Plus, the Bay movies have become stale after a 10 year run (it's creepy that something so objectively awful stayed for so long... but I digress). A new gen of fans wants to see a new take on the universe. Same with MLP G5 - it's the same characters but they have a different look and setting.

I am also liking the female Decepticon. She looks feminine enough but not like a sexy gynoid (that awful pretender thing from the second movie that made out with Sam and had a tentacle tail and tongue was worse to me than the humping dogs or Jetfire farting out a parachute).

I saw Bumblebee last night and it was amazing!  God, it is so nice not having racist humor and sexism in a TF movie.  Weep for joy with me as I tell you that the camera presents the female main lead as a relatable human being and does not, EVER, have creepy shots of the camera panning in on her butt, etc.

Bumblebee (the character) is charming and his friendship with Charlie (the girl) feels so heartfelt and genuine.  Charlie has typical teen problems . . . and atypical other problems . . . and you just FEEL for her.  She doesn't come across as whiny or entitled, which can be difficult with teen characters.

Way less product placement than the Bay movies.  I mean, I'm sure there's some, but you don't have people popping Bud Lites all over the place.  There is a significant shot of a can of Tab on a table, which I think is meant to parody typical product placement.  :P

I haven't seen any of the Bay movies, but according to my friends who've seen all of them, the Decepticons "show more personality in this one movie than all the Bay movies put together."  They also said things like "I could tell what was GOING ON in the action scenes!" so I guess that is a change.  The action scenes were great IMO.

The film is set in 1987 and it deliberately emphasizes "THIS IS THE 80S", much like Stranger Things.  Fun for people who grew up in the 80s, and it didn't seem to bother the kids in the audience.  (I think the 80s are a mysterious, intriguing time for people who didn't grow up then.)  Also feels very much like an 80s Spielberg film, which is not surprising since the director gave an interview where he said he loves Spielberg films. :P

Spoiler
There's also a brief but action packed sequence on Cybertron that shows tons of recognizable 80s TFs fighting, and it's glorious.  Starscream looks like Starscream, not a dorito.  Soundwave is blue and shoots Ravage out of his chest.  Plus we get to see Cliffjumper, Brawn, Wheeljack and many others . . . SO GOOD.)

Speaking of kids, the kids in the audience loved it and were literally cheering at times.

The film is rated PG-13, but it's a very soft PG-13 in my opinion.  Whereas the Bay films are a very hard PG-13.  (I think they're PG-13, right?  Or are they R?)  I would feel comfortable taking an eight year old to this movie, if they were okay with seeing chase scenes and action sequences.

This was a great Transformers movie, but also just a great movie period.

Thanks for the review LadyMoondancer, didn't click the spoiler cause I want to go into it spoiler free. For most of the 80s I was a little kid (turned 10 in 86), so I didn't see it through the eyes of a teenager. The throwbacks would be "hey I saw that..." in passing rather than experiencing it first hand. Still fun though.

Just came back from seeing it and I have to say it was amazing. I loved Bumblebee and his relationship with Charlie so much and Charlie herself was going through her own arc.

I also liked the Decepticons in this. Shatter especially. So nice from her design to her personality. She was a boss. Good seeing this universe has no issues with female TFs.

One scene I found too violent, tho. Warning, it's a spoiler and upsetting for TF fans:
Spoiler
Cliffjumper's death. It was too extreme and graphic. They could have cut to black but no. That felt very Bay and gross. At the very least they could have used a hated character like Gears... lol

You've got the touch!

I hope they continue with this timeline. I noticed
Spoiler
the Autobots arrive shortly after Bee reunites with Optimus. That is not in line with 2007 when Optimus arrives together with the others and lands in a pool while Bee is stuck with Sam.

I prayyyy this is a clean reboot. I want more.

Same!  I told my friends I refuse to view it as a prequel, LOL.  Team Reboot all the way.

Spoiler
I didn't mind Cliffjumper's death, but then he has never been one of my favorite Autobots, LOL.  It is unfortunate for him that he first died in TF Prime and now here.  Press F to pay respects.  I didn't feel disturbed by it in a visceral way, I think seeing hundreds of Vehicons die in TF Prime has numbed me. :P

I read an interview with Travis Knight and he said he wanted to establish the ruthlessness of the Decepticons and chose Cliffjumper to die because he's the same size as Bumblebee.  It was a really interesting interview, he obviously knows and loves the franchise.  <3

I also love Shatter.  I believe she's voiced by Angela Bassett?  Speaking of voice actors:

Spoiler
From the very first part of the film: Shockwave sounded so much like G1 Shockwave that afterwards I checked to see if Corey Burton had voiced him.  He hadn't . . . but man, the new VA (Jon Bailey) was spot on.

And a random, throwaway bit:

Spoiler
Apparently the comic book that Memo (the boy next door) throws away to maintain his "totally not a nerd" cred was . . . A GO-BOTS COMIC.   In the interview I mentioned before, Travis Knight said there was originally a Go-Bots joke from Memo that sadly they had to cut due to time.  I hope it makes it onto DVD as an extra!

Thinking more about the violence
Spoiler
I just wish it hadn't been for the gross kills. Bee decapitating a seeker and kicking the head was dumb. Bee was overpowered anyways. He got thrown off cliffs, shot and electrocuted so many times it got tedious. If he was a female bot he'd be called a Mary Sue immediatly by all these youtube "reviewers". But he is a small scout guy so of course he is the Terminator.
I just miss when Bee didn't have to be brutal and bada$$.

Not sure if it was needed to have graphic kills to show Decepticons are ruthless. Bee was almost as bad except that he didn't make humans explode and instead of slicing someone in half he just tore a guy limb from limb and made another guy explode. Also that head kicking.

The one kill I thought was more Bee-ish was by the end when he took out Shatter. He knew she was too tough for him so he was gonna die with her. But Jesus Bee survived that one too.

Bee is the new Optimus. Always dieing and standing up again.

I hope they make a sequel that takes place only a few years later. And this time more Autobots so we don't have to see Beesus Cyberchrist getting tortured all the time.

This is such a cute and touching movie. But LOL that once she realized Bumblebee wasn't a car she was totally cool with having a 30 foot robot hiding out in her garage like NBD.

We liked it. It was good. Not great, not something I desperately need in my video library, but enjoyable all the same. The pacing was a little off and it was pretty predictable, but then I can't remember when the last time a movie wasn't. Shatter was a good villain and I liked how the transformers moved, mechanical but with fluidity.
