Title: If I had $1,000,000
Post by: SourdoughStomper on January 07, 2018, 03:58:09 PM
If I had a million dollars we wouldn't have to eat Kraft dinner
(But we would eat Kraft dinner)
(Of course we would, we'd just eat more)
(And buy really expensive ketchups with it)
(That's right, all the fanciest dijon ketchups, hmm)

:money: :money: :money:

I didn't know what Kraft Dinner was until I moved to Canada. In the States, we just call it Kraft Mac 'n' Cheese. I thought it would be fun to pick a Canadian song about money for the title. :P

Anyway, also since I moved to Canada, I mostly pay for things with a debit card. Used to use cash all the time. Sadly, this results in my rarely having pocket change. I haven't written a check (Mr. Stomper spells that as "cheque") for two decades. Also, Mr. Stomper hasn't bought me a real green dress, yet.... I am disappoint.

Okay, enough with the silly intro post. How do you pay for your things? :money:

I use my debit card!

I use paypal for online transactions, but all my in-store stuff is done through my debit. My workplace doesn't even make straight cash or check an option, it's all direct deposit.

I use my debit card! But also cash especially when buying toys or food. I think sometimes I secretly feel like cash "doesn't count" -which is a dangerous notion lol.
Spoiler
I also love the title of the post so I am going to add a little extra to my answer...
If I had a 1,000,000 dollars, I would buy all the Barbies I wanted (which I do not allow myself to collect because I feel like I only have the funds to focus on one collection, my ponies), I would use it to pay off my car debt ($750), pay for my my boo to go back to school, and take my mom and grandma on a trip to Iceland!

I pay mostly with debit as we don't have a bank on the island and my paychecks are direct deposit. I do try to have at least $20 cash on me for emergencies (usually between $5-10 though, heh)

I use debit the most. Most of my transactions are as follows:

Debit: in-store purchases & Amazon
Cash: petty cash purchases for work, small in-store purchases, and bus fair
Credit Card: veterinary expenses (for which I use Care Credit)
PayPal: Ebay

Cash. Or checks.

I'm waiting to see who answers "Checks - I use them all the time" because almost no-one here takes checks, including banks. My Nana tried to get a new checkbook recently and was refused!

I do most of my shopping online, and use either Paypal or my debit card.

Cash because I’m a high school girl without a credit or debit and all my money is from Christmas and birthdays! If I want to buy something online, I give Mom or Dad the cash and they use their card.
Spoiler
Never knew that it’s not kraft dinner in the us. I thought it was called kraft dinner all over North america, as I’ve only heard my Aussie cousins refer to it as kraft Mac and cheese. Guess kraft dinner is truly just a Canadian thing.
And to answer the question, if I did happen to have a million dollars, I’d probably loose it al because I loose everything. Keys, my wallet, phone...even my own sister in. Supermarket!

I use my debit card. Never owned a credit card. Don't trust myself  :P

If I had a million dollars, I'd use it to be independent. I'd buy myself a modest house in a small town with enough yard for my chickens, dog and then plan for my dream rescue cat. That would be under $400,000 at most. I'd give some money to my family and use the rest towards my arts and writing practice. Lastly, I'd put some away for a nice trip or two. My main priority is independence though.

Debit card: for groceries/shopping.
Cash: for carpark fees / bus fares / bootsales  ;) .
Credit card: don't have one any more, personal choice.
Cheques: - oh my, not in years!
Bank transfer/direct debit: - utility biils, solicitor fees, council tax, gym.

If I had $1,000,000 - approx £740,000 according to google's currency converter today -
ooh, this would vastly help me with my current situation (about to move house) as I could go ahead + buy my new home now, move in etc then take my time to sell my current one! Here in the UK there is a tax called Stamp Duty, and buying a new home before the main residential one is sold means you have to pay a higher rate of SD (supposedly to discourage the buy-to-let landlord trend and free-up much-needed homes for private ownership), but with the extra million I think it wouldn't hurt too much!

I use debit card for everything, I have one for groceryshopping on a joint account with my partner, and one for my private needs and shopping. Bills are paid via banktransfers. A lot of places don't take cash anymore (not even banks) and I rarely wear my wallet so cash is kind of my new savingsstrategy. I always get surprised when I look in my wallet and realise I have money there.

If I had one million dollar my future would be saved, haha. I don't think I would change too much. Buy a home instead of renting and get a car. Maybe travel a bit and donate some to charity but for the rest I would probably let be. I should feel a lot more safe tho, with that financial stability.

I shop online a lot, so it's often online transfers for me. I like the fraud protection.

I might use cash to "buy me some art (like a Picasso or a Garfunkel)" though. ;)

I like using cash wherever possible because it's easier for me to keep track of. The online feature for my bank is slow as heck to update and even when I have a decent amount in there, I'm always wary of buying things online and losing track of how much money I have. :P My debit card only ever gets used if I forget to go to the cash machine or I have no choice but to buy something online. As for credit cards, I'm just not a fan of them.
And if I had $1,000,000, I'd disappear to a quiet Hebridean island and spend my days whale-watching! :D

I use my debit card about 90% of the time and PayPal about 10% of the time. I use to mostly use cash, but most of my stuff is done from home and I finally got my own bank account a couple years ago so I've come to like debit a lot better.

I use cash for small purchases, but mostly, I pay by debit card. Some of my colleagues pay everything by card and never have any cash on them, which I find rather interesting. I think sometimes it might just be an excuse not to contribute when an envelope for someone's birthday goes round. :P

I pay with my Debitcard. I only use cash for small purchases under 3 USD, for fleamarkets or when I go to Denmark (to avoid extra charges.)

I Always use Paypal or as a second choice my Debit card when I pay on internet.

If I had a million dollar I would definitely buy a House at the Countryside with a big garden and travel to the US. I hope to do it anyway but offcourse it would be much easier.  :)

We decided to stop using checks after someone tried to steal our account number from a business that we wrote a check to. They made their own set of checks and put us in debt with the bank. We had to call the police and was a big mess. We cannot ever write checks at certain stores again because of this identity theft. So the way I see it the only way to go is debit card.

I keep cash for gas and garage sales.
I use my credit card for shopping.  I don't use it to buy anything that I can't pay off that night.  The only reason I switched to a credit card over a debit card was for the extra cash back (free money).

I put absolutely everything I can on my credit card.  This is because my bank has cool reward points for dollars spent.  So long as I pay the total off every month then it is money for nothing and I cash-out a couple of times a year with some really useful gift vouchers for shops I frequent often :)

I prefer using my Debit Card the most. However, right now the majority of the money on there is from my student loans, so I don't use it much from aside from paying bills.

If it's IRL then it's usually cash, otherwise it's credit card (get rewards and pay it off right away) or debit card. If it's online it's usually Paypal  :awake:
If I had $1,000,000 to spend right now?... hmmm... I have a big wishlist! I need times to think :silly:   I'm a girl of many wants :P

I used to use my debit card for everything, but found out a credit card is much safer.  If some steals your debit card number and uses it, that comes directly out of your banking account.  It can take a awhile to recover that money.  With the credit card, it's not your money.  Plus with my credit card, I also get points.  I always pay it off at the end of each period.

Debit card for toys and almost every luxury thing I buy!
Parents pay for bills, food, clothes. I use a credit card tied to my mom's account for food.
I use cash if I have it, which I don't always.
PayPal for commissioning artists.

Ok I use a little bit of all of them. I don't have cash on my very often and when I do its very easy to spend it. I don't understand why though? I use my CC for almost everything other then bills that don't allow payment that way. Those bills use my checking account to be taken out automatically. I only write one check out and that is the water bills. There is no other way to pay and not sending cash in the mail!

I like to use my CC due to the points that I earn from it! :)

Credit card for everything possible. We pay it off in full each month, so no interest charges, and get 1% cash back. So we end up making money off it.

Cash is king! I haven't had a debit card for a decade.

If I had a million dollars, all my debt would be gone and I'd have every US pony including mail orders... :o)

Debit card mostly, but I do pull cash out to make change every now and then, the eftpos terminal on the vending machine at work is always breaking, so I carry change to grab a drink for lunch...

If I had a million dollar-i-doos... I'd have all the US and UK ponies... and lots of anime and books!

My credit card gives me points on the dollar, which I can then redeem for money off my bill.  For me, this is the cheapest payment method.  Just have to remember to pay the bill on time.  Ha ha.

I use credit if I can pay it off within a week or two, especially if I am building points for something. I got $300 + worth of stuff from the Disney Store for free at Christmas time using points and free gift cards :) I use debit for almost everything else. Trying to get better about having cash in my wallet though with so many breaches. It seems like every store has gotten hacked recently.

If I had a million dollars I would buy enough land to put a few houses on it and have a small organic farm. I would give one of the houses to my brother and his family.

My credit card gives me airline points (and double points for certain stores and types of restaurant).  It's brilliant. I would definitely recommend it to almost everyone (not people who wouldn't remember to pay their bill on time or who would be tempted to carry a balance, but everyone else).

Like a few others- I use a credit card whenever possible in order to rack up the points (be they airline points or whatever)

Also, getting cash out is a pain in the rear.

If I had a million I'd 1) pay off our house loans 2) build a "cottage" in the back for our friend Chris to live 3) renovate our ugly dated kitchen 4) ... while I have a nice long list, I think the money would run out after 1-3, $1M isn't what it used to be :)

I use credit card online tranaction...
Debit to pay bills, grocery and gas...
I carry little cash $10 or below for treat Sweet teas or pony ;)..

If I had Millions... What fun I could have ... I pay all loans off and finish me and my hubby goals with our farm.. I would buy one cozy one floor homes for mother inlaw... of course buy few MLP.... rest money away for rainy day.

Debit card.

I live in a very cash free part of the world where it's not at all unusual for stores to accept card payments only. Here barely the banks handles cash any more. It's ridiculous. I can't even deposit money at my bank office. I have to deposit them at a, what are they called, like a reversed ATM for deposits only? Which is for some reason located in another part of the city than the bank office. So yeah, I try to avoid cash because it might not be accepted everywhere and getting it into a bank account is a pain.
