Title: ... but the fire is so delightful...
Post by: SourdoughStomper on December 13, 2017, 03:18:23 PM
:fireplace: :fireplace: :fireplace:

The Stomper clan uses their furnace and thermostat to keep warm. At least during the day. At night, a metric ton (well, almost) of blankets on our beds. Mr. Stomper and I even have a mattress warmer when the chill is too much.

That said, I'm hypothyroid, so I'm cold 80% of the year. :snow: :cold: :brr:

I wear sock/slippers and a sweater in addition to my usual layers, pretty much all the time. It's not often that my feet are bare. :socks:

How do you keep warm?  :toasty: :campfire:

I live in California, so it's just about freezing point in the morning and at night. We just have our thermostat set to our normal temperature :) It has snowed once in the last twenty years.

It doesn't get cold here very many days of the year.  When it does, it's not quite freezing.  So it's space heaters and extra blankets for us.  I do get bored by the constantly grey skies though.

It has to stay cold outside for a pretty significant amount of time before it gets chilly in my apartment, and let me just say that doesn't happen much where I live.

Like we had a short-lived 'cold' spell mid-last week. I only turned my heater on a couple of times and I didn't leave it on for more than a few minutes.

I only turn on the heater for my dog. Otherwise I wouldn't turn it on at all.

I'd have to pick different answers, and hubby and I have different temperatures. He likes it cooler, I'd like the heat to be up higher....so I end up in layers, and have a space heater for night.

We currently have a hot air furnace, I miss having a wood stove, but blankets will do as well.

Right now we have a furnace, but we also have a pellet stove, plus a wood stove in case of REAL emergency.
I usually keep the house in the low to mid 60's, and wear sweatshirts. Right now, I'm wearing a stocking cap. It's a really comfy one, though.
What a fun question!

I usually have a space heater on if I can. Plus I dress in layers. I dress in layers even if it's hot in the summer, though. Some people think I'm weird but I have thin blood because I'm on blood thinners and it makes me cold all the time. Plus, I'm on the thinner side. I've had people tell me I should eat and that'll cure me. Sorry but my IBS has something to say about that. Not sure if it's caused from my multiple meds that I have to take because of my blood disease but it's annoying.

I do the same thing stomper. Blanket at night and furnace for the day. Sometimes we use the fireplace, but our small dogs manage to soak up all the heat. The cat used to roast himself in front of it. His whiskers on one side would start to curl and he’d just roll over and bake the other side!

My husband likes it cold, I like it hot!

I often pop over to my parents (along with a couple of bags of logs) and take advantage of their fireplace!

It's been very chilly here in the UK this week and their log fire has been lovely to sit next to. It would be so nice to have a proper fireplace of our own one day, hopefully I can find one when I go house-hunting in the spring!

Other than that, it's heaps of fluffy blankets and duvets at night! My bed is a nest of warmth! My husband still has to poke his feet out to stay cool, though!

I live in Minnesota, so once the temperature drops below 30, I take out my heated throws and they stay in my chair until March.

I went with "blankets" for the poll since I live under my heated blanket all winter but its a combination of most, honestly!

Of course we crank up the heat because its so cold up here in Idaho. Our bathroom has a space heater to keep it comfortable, although it can still be pretty cold if you're taking a shower. The windows/doors of our apartment are very poorly sealed so they've all got blankets, old jeans, etc shoved against the bottoms. I also decided to try using thumb tacks to attach the curtains to the walls in our bedroom and on the sliding glass door. That thing takes up half our largest wall and lets in so much cold. It drives me nuts.

We'll be moving in a couple months and I can't wait to hopefully take advantage of a fireplace for the rest of the winter.

My parents have a wooden stove which has a water tank on top, linked to the central heating system, so it heats all the house by itself, this is so fun.  When it's not lit, we go back to our normal heating system. ^^

It tends to get really cold where I live during this time of the year but honestly I like it that way. I'm on meds that tend to make me feel hot so I rather enjoy the cold and usually just turn the thermostat off (its honestly 47F in my house currently). I do have a heater that works very well but if I do get cold I prefer just layering.

It's summer here now. The kids have been in the pool once today and are already begging to go back in. In winter we have radiant underfloor heating throughout the house. That sorts us out.

Layers!! I don't touch our thermostat, and our house is old and drafty. I usually have a sweatshirt or sweater on, and socks are a very important part of winter.  :cold:

12 years in Fairbanks, Alaska taught me one thing--->Layers are your friend. I legit have 20 blankets but only have 5 on my bed here.

China was interesting with the heat. It gets turned on November 15th and off in March or was it April? but ONLY if you live north of some river. Even if it cuts through your city, if your on the south side - no heat for you. I loved having a heated floor, especially in the bathroom. However, it got pretty damn cold at night before the heat was turned on.

I'm usually uncomfortably hot anyway, so a sweater more than does it for me ^.^

I've got the thermostat set at 65-75 depending upon activities (lower if baking, higher if company's coming over). I have a cello, which does not do well with wide temperature swings, and Colorado can go from negatives to 80s in 24 hours or less, so AC is a must. If it gets too cold for me, but the temp's right for the cello, I just put on more clothes or grab an extra blanket.

I also have fleece sheets for winter months. I love those sheets.

A combination of blankets, fuzzy socks and cozy slippers, some warm tea or hot chocolate and the thermostat set  to a constant 72^ (the later doesn't really play too much of a roll...different rooms end up being different temperatures.   Mine is always cold int he winter and hot in the summer ._.)

I'm in Pennsylvania in an older house, so it's pretty drafty. we can't afford to keep the heat too high (65 at night and out of the house, 69ish when we're awake/home) so we have a space heater for the bathroom (FREEZING in there when you get out of the shower!) and to warm up my bedroom when my boyfriend is over-- SOME of us are fine bundling up (I have a kigurumi that I love! keeps me so warm!) but he hates being cold.

Our (rubbish) thermostat is set to 21C (70F.) The monitor is in the sitting room and there are good doors between it and the rest of the house so the main rooms fluctuate between 19 and 24C which means I'm constantly grabbing a blanket or throwing it off. Upstairs is always at a lower temp though and my sister has an even colder attic room so uses a space heater to make it more comfortable.

Of course the best way to warm up is to grab one of our three dogs. One is warm but doesn't stay long; one stays ok but licks and makes your hands wet/cold and the third is very snuggly and doesn't lick so he's just right :D

I chose thermostat BUT we also have a wood stove. On *really* cold days we dress more warmly too as some days the wind chill factor is too much for the poor heating systems to keep up with.  :cold:

Chrissytree: Our dog snuggles up with us too:) She's a Yorkie so the poor thing gets cold easily (I also make her wear a sweater which she hates, lol)

I live in a apartmentcomplex with central heating. I always keep my radiators on warmest level as I have no control over them anyway. Usually the system turns on at the end of octobre and quits around april and right before and after it can get real cold. We're also on the groundfloor and surrounded by buildings so despite having sun, it's not a lot so it can be really cold in the summer as well.

So layers. Layers, layers and layers. Blankets and woolen slippers. A lot of tea.

We had 10-15cm (4-6 inches) of snow at home last weekend. It was amazing, but very cold. However today it was realllly freezing in Oxfordshire, and yeesh, a lot of paths were not gritted either, so really lethal. In weather like that, I like fluffy socks and to find somewhere warm...

Layers are my friend. When it was really cold the other day, I wore both tights and leggings under my smart work trousers, plus two pairs of socks.

When I'm at home, I turn the heating on. I also have a heated duvet, which was one of my best purchases ever. It keeps the bed nice and warm, while the bedroom stays pleasantly cool.

I do a mixture of layers, blankets and a three-bar heater. The extra clothing is mainly for when I'm out and about, right down to extra socks, but when I'm at home, I'm alright with just putting a hoodie on over my normal around-the-house clothes. I do love hiding under blankets though - the fluffier the better! :D

I picked stay in front of a heater, but I also put on a couple layers of clothing (a long sleeve shirt or sweater, plus a jacket, and for when it's really cold: fleece lined jeans). IDK what it is but I have a very low tolerance to the cold. I had my thyroid level checked a couple times and it's ok, so it's not that.
The only heat this house has is a wall furnace in the center (nothing better than coming in from the cold and sitting on the floor right in front of the vent). My other heating elements are an electric blanket, and my hair dryer. :P

I try not to use the thermostat unless it's deathly cold. A heating bill can really jack up our electricity bill in the winter, so I try to throw on sweaters and blankets first.

I love breaking out my comfy socks and slippers in winter. I have a pair of warm Pinkie Pie socks that have gotten me through many a bleary freezing night!

I sweat all the time. I still have my fan on at night. Only have a thin MLP throw blanket as of yet.
I think the rest of the apartments heat mine up.

Funny I should find this post today.... I was just thinking as I was driving to work today...
In winter 40 degree weather = shorts, In summer 40 degree weather is time for a sweater.
So far this season we have only had 3 days of single digits. I love the cold, but hate driving in the snow.

... wondering when if at all I will need to break out the feather blankets.

I live in an apartment building. Since there isn't an option for "my neighbors have the heat so high I don't need to worry about feeling cold" isn't an option. I went with the blanket and layers option because I will take that course when I actually am cold. It just gets to stuffy in a building with the heat on. Plus blankets are comfy and kitties make excellent heaters.
