Hi,
Are there any other David the Gnome fans out there? I had vague memories of a few scenes of the episodes before getting the DVD set last year. This is my second time watching the whole series all the way through and I really enjoy the series. :)

I'm not a fan (as in, I know every episode), but I do remember watching it when I was little. I loved it, it was such a beautiful series. :D
-
I think it's a great series also, and it seems really timeless. :)

I remember it, I actually cried when the last episode aired here in the U.K (you know when they died).

That was a sad way to end the series but it was also very well done. My mom says that episode aired maybe one time in the US on Nick Jr. She remembered the part with David and Lisa saying goodbye to Swift.

Yeah, that episode was very uncharacteristically sad for a show targeting preschoolers.
-
I watched that all the time when I was little^^

I watched it as a child. I really enjoyed it.

I agree. I was a little shocked when I found out about the ending last year. I felt just like Swift does at the end when he realizes he'll never see David or Lisa again. I'm tearing up just thinking about it.

I remember it being on a long defunct channel named "The Children's Channel" in the UK, but I don't remember watching it. However, I had the theme song recorded as part of a promo for it (I had recorded shows from that channel), so I still have a nostalgic attachment to the theme song, despite not watching the show (assuming I didn't).

I have not seen this one in ages, I want to find it and watch again.

I loved this show when I was a kid! I've wanted to watch it again, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. :(

Amazon had the DVD set for sale last year but when I checked a couple of months ago the only copies for sale were from private seller and they wanted $200 per set. I am disappointed that my set that has only been played through once the last disc is stopping in the middle of the episodes and is very scratched. :( The other discs play fine so I'm not sure why the last disc is like that.
YouTube has some David the Gnome episodes.

That brings back fund memories. I still remember the episode where he talked about other mystical creatures he had met or heard about. I always found that one particularly amusing.

I loved it as a kid :) havnt seen it in years though.

I was crazy about this show as a kid and have been wanting to re-watch it again! I always liked Swift the fox. :)

I loved this series very much when I was little, something about it still strikes an emotional chord for me. I'm not sure why. I mean, it's a lovely show and all, but I get really emotionally compromised when I hear the theme song?? I cried like a baby when I finally watched the last episode, it was SUCH a healthy way to look at death.
-
Yes that was my favorite when I was a child! I was just talking about it with my friends the other day!
-
I remember watching as a kid. Didn't know how it ended 'til last year. That was sad. I wish more cartoons today could have the moments where your heart strings are tugged like shows in the 80's did.
-
This was such a wonderful series! My brother and I loved watching it when we were young. Pretty sure I still have a few episodes on video tape somewhere, and I know I have a few of the picture story books in my collection.
-
It’s a wonderful show and it’s too bad that it doesn’t seem to get as much attention as other 80’s shows. I was surprised how enjoyable the show is as an adult as well. I love the Baby Troll episode where David says that even though the Trolls are their enemies they should still help the Baby Troll get to safety instead of leaving him stranded in the river.
There are David the Gnome storybooks? Do they follow the show or are they different stories.

I loved it when I was little. A couple years ago there was a thread about it on here and because of what people were saying I decided to get the DVD set, but I still haven't watched it.

Loved this show, my BFF has it on DVD I borrow it occasionally.
(Nick used to have a good line up in the morning...)

What! I don't remember that episode at all. Maybe i was too young to even know what was happening.
Now I'm sad :( :(

I still have a video somewhere

I loved the show! It was very popular in my country. I have the books that inspired the animation (The Gnomes and Secrets of the Gnomes, both by Rien Poortvliet & Wil Huygen). They're more dark than the show but its very cool and any fan would love them too!
-
I wanted to buy it on DVD on amazon but it's not available. I guess they sold out. You can find some individual episodes on VHS though but I wanted DVD.

They didn't actually show them die but it was obvious for older audiences. I remember theeis episode when it aired and I couldn't understand why Swift was howling. Basically I think David and his wife went out into a meadow and turned into trees entwined in each others arms then you see faded versions of their gnome selves laughing and Swift the fox is crying (howling). I think that's what happened.
-
It was a very sad episode. I remember about a year ago watching it on Youtube.
If I remember correctly, there was a third gnome that went with David and Lisa because he didn't want to "make the great journey" alone. Given that the journey was a euphemism for death, I found that aspect rather disturbing. The subtext being:
"I don't want to die alone."
"Okay so let's all die together."
-
I agree. I watched the last episode tonight and even though I've watched it before I still ended up crying when David and Lisa say their final goodbyes to the forest animals, Swift and each other. And when Swift watches them turn in to trees.
