This is something I've been thinking about for a while. :huh: The MLP Preservation Project (http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/materials.html) has a wonderful list of cleaners and materials for making our ponies beautiful again but what if you live somewhere outside of the US and the brands mentioned don't exist?
I was thinking this thread could become a sort of go to list for non US pony collectors to post their countrys' equivalent to oxiclean and the Mr Clean Magic erasers and other cleans that are just as useful to clean ponies with.
Alternative to:
Oxy Clean
Vanish Oxy Action (previously known as Napisan) - Finland, Sweden, UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand
Dawn Dish Soap
Pamolive (concentrate) - New England, New Zealand
Fairy - Europe, Australia, UK
Mr Clean Magic Erasers
Malamine sponges (type of sponge not a brand name)
Chux Cleaning Cloth Magic Eraser - New Zealand

Sugar Soap (can also be used for deflocking) - UK, New Zealand

Sounds like a very good idea. I know I had some problems at first when all those US products were nowhere near this little corner of Europe.

Great idea! Here in Finland we have Vanish Oxi Action that is the same thing as Oxyclean, but I'd love to know what equivalents people have found for products like Remove-Zit or Goof Off. :)

We use Dawn soap here quite often for cleaning grimy ponies, since it has some kickass grease fighting power, but Palmolive can work just as well. Make sure it's concentrated. :)

5 or 6 years ago it used to be a nightmare to find the products people in the US described, but honestly I find so many US products over here now its weird!
Vanish is the equivalent I use for oxy - its the same thing essentially. However I suppose its cool that we have our own products that the US does not get - the amazing sugar soap, that I swear by, being one of them :)

Cat - what would you use sugar soap for with ponies? I've only even used to clean out cupboards before/after moving houses.

Sorry, was doing too many things at once and got confused... :blush: The first post has been updated. Can others in Europe confirm that Fairy can be found in their countries? It's just that Europe is huge and incorporates a lot of different countries and I'm not sure if things in one part of it can be found in another.

I think Vanish Oxi action is sold all over Europe, but I haven't seen Palmolive concentrate? Is it like concentrate for dishes or like a liquid soap?
I'd really like to know about magic eraser alternative!
EDIT: I think that Mr Clean is called Mr Proper in Europe (but there is also Mr Muscolo/Mr Muscle, which confuses me :lol:), but I don't remember ever seeing magic erasers. I'll ask my mum tomorrow!

^ In NZ it's used for washing dishes in the sink instead of the dishwasher. I assume it's the degreaser in it that works on pony stains/marks, so my best educated guess would be that any gentle dish washing liquid with degreaser could work. If anyone can agree/disagree with this statement please post - this is just what I've been able to work out from reading up on everything.
Also just a thought - anyone like the idea of links/pictures of the actual products? That way people can know exactly what the product is.

Magic erasers are also known as a melamine sponge (sp?) So if you see them labelled as that - it's a magic eraser! We also have fairy and vanish oxy. I just use an antibacterial dish soap, as most of them here have degreasing agents.

Just googled melamine sponge and it seems to be the type of sponge and Mr Clean magic erasers are a brand of that type, if that makes sense?

Actually, yes, come to think of it, I think it is napisan now... I just buy the pink canister, I don't really look because it's something I buy pretty frequently!
I was at wits end trying to find a magic eraser here, and then found some seconds stock at a pop-up bulk warehouse type store, and it said it was a melamine sponge - so now I can get them from wherever, I've seen them in the cheap shops (bargain city/the reject shop), Daiso, Harris Scarffe, even supermarkets on occasion. They're sometimes called a magic sponge, magic block, etc... or just melamine sponge - in Daiso they come cut up in different sizes in bags, which is convenient, because I do that anyway.

We have Fairy here :)
And sugarsoap is awesome for deflocking but also amazing at shifting stubborn stains :) It gets right into the plastic pores - a soak and a scrub. Something else I find effective is Cif (or Jif) depending on where you are in the world.

I've never hard of sugar soap before! :wow: If someone wants to add Vileda Miraclean to the list of "magic erasers", that's what I have at home right now. :)

Can you soak ponies in sugar soap with their hair on? The dye doesn't run or anything? I might have to try this... the few very dirty ponies I have that need to be cleaned up before sale.
I'm totally loving the sharing we have going on here!! :grouphug: I'm learning so much stuff about cleaning ponies with items that I have at home already!! No more having to search through supermarkets or other shops trying to find a brand that doesn't exist in my country!! :frolic:

Its like any other soaking agent - try and avoid neon colours and those which are not colour fast. Although I simply cover hair in vaseline and wrap in clingfilm when soaking them in anything. Its a little extra work to get the hair clean again but it works to protect it.

Brilliant!!! I haven't had much practical experience with cleaning ponies other than a slight scrub with soap and water and cleaning hair but I have read a lot but I don't think I've seen or remembered that bit of advise. Thanks for the contributions! :)

I'm in France and have yet to find anything wonderful to clean my dear ponies with. :/ I'm so scared of damaging them.

^ I hope this thread can help you find cleaning products in your area. May I suggest trying to look for some of the products listed as being found in UK/Europe when you're next in the supermarket- you might have some luck. If not I'm sure someone else in France will come by soon and update our list with more products.

I've noted them down and that's what I plan to do next time I go to a big supermarket. Fingers crossed I'll find something. :D
And if I manage to find a French equivalent (maybe?) I'll come here and post it. ^^

I was wondering, I think "Mr. Propre Gomme Magique" could be the French name of "Mr Clean Magic Erasers". :)
If that's the case, do they work well on ponies? What do you use them for, pen marks, muck, sticky fingers marks, etc... ? :D

That should be it because as far as I know Mr Proper is European version of Mr Clean :)

This is lovely! I'll add it to the site. Dont be suprised if it takes me awhile to get to it. I've been so busy at work that I haven't done anything pony related in months. I have a couple of weeks off over Christmas so I'm hoping to do some updates then. :heart:

Giving this a bump and adding baby wipes to the list. They're good for general cleaning and you can rub quite hard over paint and the paint will stay. I generally use a good brand (huggies) and use the sensitive no sent type. I've just used them to take 20+ year make up off ponies with no trouble.
