Ugh, WHY would they do that?!?! It's bad enough we have to have that term for G3/G4 but keep it the heck away from G1 and G2! >___<

I think her joints are good. I mean they go forwards and backwards lol. Her legs and tail move easily, her head is a little hard to turn though. I would of preferred they just moved instead of popped on and off, but I think that's what this line of vinyls does. I can take some more pics after my sons nap, his room has better lighting lol.
Yes they are new for this year. We had a topic about them awhile back, maybe started a year ago and the company seemed to genuinely care about the opinions of collectors. I know the prototype glory was more of a grey color and the seller I got her from had a glory and she was very white. So they fixed that since that bugged a lot of people. I should of got her too but I was trying to be good lol.
I know I don't understand the odds either. It's very depressing.
I have no idea who else besides Walmart, I believe they carry some of the loyal subjects stuff.

Someone else said they saw a post on Facebook that they saw them at Barnes and nobles. I don't know if anyone has found them anywhere else. Finding her on eBay was a surprise since there hasn't been much talk about them for awhile. The seller I got her from only has a snuzzle left all the others have sold.

I still think that the places that are selling them for $20 hiked the prices. $12 to $15 is pretty close to what LS would sell them at themselves I think (I say $15 because I did a slight bit of math to figure that out since they mostly sell the display cases for quite a bit). I will say though a lot of your higher quality items are going to cost more, I asked another person to compare the quality to Funko and yes they said the quality was much better. I'm a bit more forgiving in that case.

I feel like I should buy one to encourage Hasbro to do more with G1. These look well made and the price is okay if you're not going to go bonkers with them. I want to see more characters released (like Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Galaxy, and Paradise). I want Hasbro to embrace their classic characters more. And the only way to influence them in that direction is to vote with my wallet.

I think she is a lilac color and looks pretty close to original Sparkle. Maybe a tiny bit more pink than purple. But I do not have my princess ponies with me, or most of my ponies since I'm trying to figure out a way to display them in my new place. I should be able to go to my moms Thursday or Friday and take a picture of them together.

I ended up super lucky cause she was the one I really wanted. Her rarity was 1/48.
I am not so sure about Princess Sparkle being included because of The OC thing, though. Some of the ponies seem to be chosen due to their popularity (Applejack, Firefly, Glory) and some because . . . I don't know, maybe a staffer had them as a kid and slipped them in because of that? (But then again, maybe a staffer was a big fan of The OC--totally possible!)
Like, the birthflower pony Rose is turning up on a lot of retro merchandise and she is SUCH an odd choice (especially considering they have ANOTHER white pony with pink hair who turns up on retro merch--the much better known Sundance.) She's got to have been someone's childhood favorite, right?
It would be nice to get in contact with whoever chose the retro lineup at Hasbro and ask them if they'll add more, especially from the first wave of So Soft and Twinkle Eye ponies. I've seen Fizzy from time to time, but I want to see the others too.
I REALLY want to support more G1 merch... but I'm not going to spend $15 on something that, to me, looks ugly and I wouldn't even want to display it. :\ The symbol doesn't look very well printed with those big thick lines (maybe that's just Princess Sparkle?), and I hate when they only print the symbol on one side. Even Funko fixed that after the first wave!
Also the price to me is a turn off. I could see spending up to $8 or maybe $9 on something that sized (even that is pushing the limit...), but not $13-$15. It's the same size as an actual MLP and those are $5!

Don't see why they couldn't do SS ponies. If Merry Hooves and Sylvanians can do flocked animals, so can MLP again. On the other hand, given TLS's pricing that could make them very expensive.
With the limited demand for G1 retro stuff, we are never going to see production quantities and therefore prices like we are used to for current-generation toys. It's sadly just never going to happen, unless perhaps the bronies all fall in love with G1 or something like that. Until then, even Hallmark ornaments are going to be $14 and up. Retro G1 merch is simply going to cost more and if we want it, that's just what we're going to have to pay.

One interesting aspect is that the little "intro paper" that comes with each pony is a short summary of her backcard story (at least it was in Princess Sparkle's case) BUT at least two ponies being released never had a proper backcard story: Minty and Snuzzle.
I spotted Minty on eBay and it looks like they just improvised a backcard story for her. It's pretty cute! It says she loves the smell of mint, so whenever she finds a mint patch she rolls around in it until she smells like mint too. :)

I don't think so because I believe a case is 16 ponies..... and some have a 1/24, 1/96 and 1/48 chance while the commons have 1/12. While the chances for the Funkos matched the case quantity better no? But we will see. If I do get a a case I will keep track of it and hopefully others will so we can compare what we get. That's Minty's story from the UK factfile! They've probably done the same thing for Snuzzle, I seem to think her factfile page mentions that she likes to cheer other ponies up by nuzzling them when they're sad.
Do the manes pop off like the tails? Maybe we can mix and match like Swatches.

Yeah books-a-million tried to get me on the card stuff, but I rarely go there... I may go there more since they have more blind boxes/bags than I expected (last time I officially went there was probably 11-ish years ago)-- now then, since I bought these two I will wait for VNC Toys to post them and get the ones I want, but as for my double I'll end up trading her (for another TLS MLP or for official g1 mlps) or customizing her.. I know that's kind of pricey to custom but it wouldn't be the first time I spent a lot for a figure to be customized ^^;I finally got two boxes.. they both ended up being Glory XD

Well, I decided to go to Booksamillion here at Discover Mills Mall here in Georgia. Only took me 35 minutes, Yay! So other Georgia pony collectors, if you're interested in these, they got them.
I decided to roll the dice and get five. Luckily I got three I really wanted: Sundance, Firefly, and Apple Jack. Then luck failed me and I got two doubles. One box popped open cleanly, so I could reseal it and try returning it, but that would involve driving all the way back and hoping they wouldn't catch on to what I was doing.
Anyone know if Barnes and Nobles will have these? Or Hot Topic, maybe?.
Edit: I saw Snuzzle's little story on eBay and yes, it sounds very similar to her UK fact file. :) Basically saying she is very sympathetic and can cheer up any pony who is feeling down with a friendly nuzzle of her head.
The box I found at Booksamillion was brand new, I took five and ended up getting two sets of doubles. I had even tried pulling from different spots in the box. If Glory, Firefly, Minty, Sparkle, Apple Jack and Sundance all have a 2 in 12 chance of being found, and the box has 16 ponies, you have a high chance of just getting a bunch of doubles.

Yes my sister is the best! And I was super happy about the booth not being crazy, and the employees were all so nice! And I've already said this but I love , LOVE the glitter ponies! And I decided to be brave and try taking one of the heads off since I could see better thanks to the clear glitter. And the heads do pop off, just a giant ball socket. So you could create franken ponies if you wanted to. I do think the more you mess with them the softer they get? I noticed after removing one of the tails a couple times it moves around a lot easier.
Yes flocked Firefly only has it on her mane and tail, not her body. Some of the how to train you dragon figures have flocked fur on their clothes as well.
No pony couple on the cake. But I do have a tux n tails, satin n lace, and bride pony to take pictures with. I want a magenta satin n lace since I like her a lot better but not sure I'll be able to get one before October. So I might use a pony bride since I like her better than regular satin n lace.

So if I were to sell the extras I got , one of each, would $25/$28 not be to bad? Just to cover PayPal fees and give my sister a couple bucks as a thank you. I know they were listed for $35 on eBay, and saw that some of the sellers bumped their prices up to the $40/$45 range. I was also thinking for trade wise one for Gusty since she's less common or one for two more common ponies like Glory and Minty. Do you guys think that would be fair to ask for prices and trades?

Well, the preorder has been pushed back to August so on some level I guess thats actually good news as if they were not getting any more sets I'd assume they'd just tell me sorry out of stock.
On a side note I saw someone post on facebook they were selling a full set but they only listed a full unopened case set as 12, while the site I order from says a case is 16. So I'm not sure which is correct but I'm assuming I'm getting 16 as that is what my order says :/

Besides the clear tab on the side. If i just cut only that, can I easily pull the inner carton out and put it back in the package exactly? Is there other secrete tape or ties?
My three figures came in today and I got the back-cards but not the boxes. I sent the seller a message asking if the boxes can be sent along. I guess it was my misunderstanding, but I'm kind of in the habit of keeping this kind of thing in their boxes when I buy them new and I'm not sure why I wouldn't automatically get the boxes with something described as "fresh out of the case".
I'm also not quite as pleased with them in person as I had hoped. The proportions and the articulation just really aren't very good. Also I think the lack of the expected boxes with art is probably clouding my enjoyment of the figures.
Maybe they'll grow on me. I guess nothing is ever quite as good as an original G1 pony, which have spoiled me it seems. I just got Applejack to stand in a fun pose so I think I'm going to be OK with these, just not thrilled per se.
edit: the seller responded: "Boxes for these are no good. Glass Shelving for display are perfect for these figures"

I would immediately explain to the seller you purchased these as MIB, NRFB figures and you expected them to be mailed as such. Since they have essentially destroyed your purchase, you will be going through the process for a full return and refund. :(

That's what I was curious about to. Nope, just the clear circle tape on each side of the box. I found it easier to open the side with Snuzzle on it though. I first tried the side with Gusty and almost ripped the corner so I tried the side with Snuzzle and it was a lot easier to open. So I did the others the same way and no problem.

Well I tried one of the Barnes and nobles near me. I saw power rangers from the loyal subjects, but no ponies. I also tried the comic store near it and they don't have any at the moment but they do have some on order and should be here in 2 weeks. So if the Barnes and nobles don't get them at least there's one place I can go to.

Meeee! My first one I opened from B-A-M was a Lickity Split! I couldn't believe it! So now I have LS, Glory (x2), Princess Sparkle (x2), and an Applejack. I went back for another one the other day, but they were all gone. UGH LoL

She comes with a cutlass, and her hat is removable and so is most of her outfit including the cloak and leggings which are rubber, but not the collar-T-shirt part which is either part of the pony plastic or glued on (the collar). I really tried but I couldn't figure out how to get her to wear the rubber goggles with wings thing she came with....so I had Loyal Subjects Applejack try it on, and it fits her much better!
So, someone asked if the GoH figures can do stuff like I was trying with the Loyal Subjects, so...I gave it a shot:

Not the best but, it kinda worked...I couldn't get the Loyal Subjects hooves to go flat upwards due to lack of elbows so this is the first thing I tried with GoH AJ, and it was hard to deal with the balance issue with GoH AJ standing, so I had to use her sitting....I'm not sure it's impossible with her standing, it's just a tedious matter of finding the right balance position.
Nonetheless, here I have one gen of Applejack actively working together with another Applejack to do some acrobatic pose and I'm quite happy about that. Really makes me happy that I happened to choose AJ cuz she goes so well with the GoH Aj I just found today. There is just something about G1 and G4 Applejack together in the same place and time.

Spied these guys in Australia (at Zing collectibles store) and picked up a box on a whim, pulled Sundance. She's very cute and happy to have her as I don't have her actual pony self yet. Here she is on the shelf with some friends. :)
Think I'll go back and poach a few more boxes, they're only $18 so not too high of a markup I think. And those clear glitter exclusives!!! WOW something is finally pulling me back into actively collecting MLP!!! :biggrin:
My set from Gypsy arrived on Wednesday, they are all sooooooo cute!! I was early enough in the order queue that I got some of the chase figures, but not all! The only one I'm missing is Lickety Split, so I'm gonna have to hunt around and see if they show up anywhere near me! Their legs pop off REALLY EASILY for some of them, one of them took a header from my desk and her leg went flying! So, be warned! I love 'em though!! I'll try to get some photos to share! I think they'll be great fun to set up for photos, being poseable and all!
I was thinking that the 'gold Firefly' must be the chase figure, but Gypsy told me that not only is she a chase, they apparently ONLY MADE ONE OF HER. O_O Like, TOTAL. So I guess gold Firefly is the ULTIMATE chase pony, LOL!!

Ended up going back today and getting four more. I pulled Applejack, Minty, Glory and Princess Sparkle! So psyched not to have pulled any doubles, but now I've got five out of the six commons, which begs the question... do I try any more blind luck, or just outright buy the others I need? :P The store had five boxes left on shelf, I might leave it a while till next paycheck. I now wish that I had a desk at work so that I could put some ponies on it, these little guys are so cute and cheerful and look amazing when put into a dynamic pose. I'm hoping these do well so that TLS produces future waves, hopefully complete the original six ponies because I would adore a Butterscotch, and start on some other beloved characters. Imagine Gingerbread and Mimic in this style! And if they managed to do actual gem eyes for them!!Spoiler
Somehow ended up with a small family of Glories now. If/when I get TLS Firefly I'll be able to take a picture with her pony form and Running Press book figure too. My Glory unfortunately has the weak legs mentioned by a few other people - the holes on her legs are a little too big and don't "pop" snugly onto the pin joint, she had two legs (one front and one back on opposite sides) floating loose in the foil packaging when I opened her. One other gripe is that the trading card with backstory is packaged inside the foil bag, and has been curved/warped around the pony in all of mine. Some of them are okay to gently curve back the other way or flatten out, but Glory and Princess Sparkle's cards have been actually bent and creased. Anybody who buys these guys loose online, please don't jump to blaming sellers for damaged cards because mine came straight out of the box in less than ideal condition. I don't think there's any way around it though, it's just an unfortunate side effect of them being put in the same narrow space.

I REALLY want to support more G1 merch... but I'm not going to spend $15 on something that, to me, looks ugly and I wouldn't even want to display it. :\ The symbol doesn't look very well printed with those big thick lines (maybe that's just Princess Sparkle?), and I hate when they only print the symbol on one side. Even Funko fixed that after the first wave!
Also the price to me is a turn off. I could see spending up to $8 or maybe $9 on something that sized (even that is pushing the limit...), but not $13-$15. It's the same size as an actual MLP and those are $5!
I think it's funny though that, of the three people who have bought them in this thread, two of the three got Gusty and she's supposed to be one of the uncommon ones. XD
I did notice we have 2/3 outstanding pony luck in this thread, haha.
The problem with the pricing, as anyone on the Genie team can tell you, is the production quantity. Our concept of what a pony should cost, or any toy, is based on the kind of production pricing that Hasbro or Disney or Mattel have been bringing to us for decades. They make huge lots of toys based on deep pockets, massive distribution networks and demand, and warehouses as big as they want to hold all that stock until it disappears.
With the limited demand for G1 retro stuff, we are never going to see production quantities and therefore prices like we are used to for current-generation toys. It's sadly just never going to happen, unless perhaps the bronies all fall in love with G1 or something like that. Until then, even Hallmark ornaments are going to be $14 and up. Retro G1 merch is simply going to cost more and if we want it, that's just what we're going to have to pay.

Hot Topic has three chase figures: 1/24 Glow Applejack, 1/48 Clear Crystal/Glittery Minty, and 1/96 Clear Crystal/Glittery Princess Sparkle. There's also a C28 Pearlized Firefly and ONE gold Firefly for all of the HT cases. Each HT only got one case and there's 12 figures in a case with 1 chase figure.
Books a Million has their own chase figures: 1/24 Snuzzle, 1/48 Gusty, and 1/96 Lickety Split. Unfortunately I don't have BAM on the west coast :(

So I'm done buying. I could give loyal subjects so much money, but they must not want it.I think the chase figure is generally in the top front right corner, though I have found it in the back.

I got glitter AJ!! No clue on box placement after she put the 8 i bought in my bag though. Well its not the glitter i was hoping for but I'll take Glow in the dark! Right now at hot topic you can buy their reusable tote bag for $4.90 and get 25% off anything you can stuff in it so i got her and 7 doubles...lol. Guess i have some customizing to do! These are weighable but it really only saved me from 2 firefly and a sundance. Im tempted to go back but no way 1 box has 2 chase ponies so i better not.

She was actually stacked in a display pyramid on a table, so no clue as to where she was packed originally unfortunately.
I haven't seen any mention of other GITD variants - she's the only one listed on the box, anyway! Maybe they'll do a Wave 2? :O Someday?

There are several different "Pack outs" available from the MLP line - 3 different ones so far. Different retailers get different chase figures/exclusives like how Books a Million gets the regular Gusty, Snuzzle, and Lickety Split.
There was a case at SDCC that you could buy individual boxes from that had three other exclusives than Hot Topic/Box Lunch and Books a Million. It had a Glitter Applejack, Glow Firefly, and Flocked Minty.
I need opinions. :) Is it worth it to keep buying these to try to get the two commons I'm missing (Glory and Princess Sparkle) or maybe a chase figure or should I wait for a while since my odds of getting a double are more than getting one I don't have now?

After some big wedding issues with almost a month to go and lots of stress! My wonderful fiancé took me to hot topic to see if they had these guys. At first I was really disappointed since I didn't see them but decided to ask an employee. And he was funny! He's like we were just talking about these guys and how they have been flying of the shelves and some of them are going for like $200 on Ebay, do you know that? I was like well I don't think they are going for quite that much but yes I've seen the glitter ones getting a little pricey. So he took me over to where they should be and even he had to take a double look as he didn't see them. Then he moved some stuff and the couple boxes they had got mixed in with the care bear stuff. And then he was like and some of the chances on these guys, what were they thinking? One gold Firefly? I think whoever gets that is going to cry. Lol, really enjoyed talking to him. I was hoping to have more of a selection but out of the five they had I went with the two heaviest ones hoping for some sparkly ponies. Ended up getting regular Minty and Firefly which at least I don't have :)Aww what a sweet fiance ^.^ Sometimes it's nice to get that simple break from all of the wedding hubbub. I am in the same situation as Leave a Whisper. The only ones I can get locally are from Hot Topic and that means no chance of getting a Snuzzle, Gusty or Lickety Split for me. I've checked Barnes and Noble several times as well and haven't found them. I'm glad Hot Topic got these also and love the Glow in the dark and glitter chase ponies but I'd love to own a Gusty too.
Majesty, you can always see if someone is selling the character you want. :) That's how I got my Princess Sparkle and Glory.

I've been wondering the same thing! Tornado Twist got Snuzzle, so we know she's available through Amazon. I wonder if the Amazon ponies are all from one "set", or are they a mixture of every set?

I watched someone open an entire case and she didn't seem to know much about the ponies.
You can easily look at them and tell who they are but she had to look at the cards for most of them to say who they were. Anyway, she mentioned their cutie marks and actually using the words "cutie mark" and I cringed.

forgive me if this is in the totally wrong place, but i have an applejack for trade if anyone's interested? i have her box, collector card and even the bag she came in! i'm looking for anyone other than minty! <3 i think these are so super cute, i was really surprised at how articulated they are! i had a lot of fun posing my applejack after i opened her, hehe!

Bwaha! I think it's also another "you failed me once again" thing. Fans have called them symbols for a long time and when Hasbro finally changed the name for G3 they named them "cutie marks" instead of "symbols" but still proceeded to make a looot of G4 fan names canon later on.
Maybe us fans should have threatened the G3 people and screamed loud enough and they would be "symbols" now ;)

I also suspect that hair color would play a roll. Notice how they didn't use Starshine in this set even though she is one of the regularly licensed ponies. Not even as a chase figure. I speculate that painting multicolored hair was considered to be too labor intensive.

I received my flocked Firefly and pearly Lickety Split yesterday from Hot Topic!! Well, my parents in the US received them anyway. ;) I will get them when I fly home for Christmas in December.

I was able to order her this time, but so far none of my orders have shipped. I placed my order for snuzzle on 9/28 so I'm still just hoping they have the stock to fill these orders.
Have any other "chase" figures been found yet? Back at Toy Fair they showed off some other cool glitter versions of ponies like Firefly! :D

Foxtail, I don't think they've made a Glitter Firefly for this set. The only Glitters in this set seem to be Glitter Minty & Glitter Princess Sparkle. The other hard to find ones are Glow in the dark Applejack, Pearlescent Firefly (club 28 which might mean that its exclusive to a specific retailer), & Gold Firefly (they may have only made 1 of her?). I'm guessing the others like glitter Firefly could come out in future sets. **Also, I'm not familiar with Loyal Subjects brand so this is all just info I've seen online via the boxes & their blog so take it all with a grain of salt.
I keep checking Books-A-Million's website to see if they've added the blind boxes online, since that chain exclusively has the chase figures I want. They're still not on the website, so I emailed customer service, and there are no plans at this time to add them to the site.
Kind of a dumb move since they have exclusive figures and they could easily increase sales to fans overseas and those who don't live near one of their retail locations. Since their nearest store is 70 miles away from me, I'm tempted to see if one of their stores would ship some if I paid over the phone or if I could pay arena member near one of their locations to get a few and then I'd pay for them plus shipping. Still debating those options at this point.

I feel your pain! The closet BAM is in New Jersey. I found the BAM versions at designer toy stores and comic book shops. I think the BAM versions are the current open retailer versions. I would call a few local comic shops to see what they have. A few retailers are also selling singles online. :D

I found a full case at TRU today and finally decided to buy a few... Ended up with Glory, Firefly and Minty. Now I'm wishing I'd gone to BAM while I was in Wisconsin.
I wasn't expecting to find them there since there hadn't been any mention of TrU in this thread. They were located with the rest of the pony stuff. I didn't see a price on the shelf but they were $13.99 IIRC. Appears to be the same characters as offered by HT.They will share some characters, but HT is supposed to have exclusive chase figures (such as a GID Applejack).
I decided I don't even want to take the chance with the unopened blind boxes. I'll just buy the ones I want off Ebay already opened. That way they're a couple dollars cheaper and I know who I'm getting. I just bought Minty & Glory for myself for my birthday. Next, I plan to buy Princess Sparkle & Firefly. Then, I'll save up for Gusty and Lickety Split. My understanding with the gold figures is that there's one per retail chain. I saw someone inquire about this on Loyal Subject's Facebook page with the gold He-Man. The person wanted to know if the gold He-Man he'd gotten from Toys R Us was truly the only one in existence. And the person at Loyal Subjects explained that each chain that has exclusive figures has 1 gold figure. So based on that, there should be 3 gold Fireflys out there: 1 sold by Hot Topic, 1 sold by Toys R Us and 1 sold by Books-a-Million

This seems to be the same case BaM got so I'm going to guess that that case is the standard case.
Wasn't there like only one gold Firefly in existence? Or was it two? One for the standard cases (BaM, TRU, TLS site) and one for the Hot Topic cases?

The chase figures/blind box model turned me off the set completely; I bought none of them because of the distribution model.
I don't appreciate artificial rarity nor the idea of buying a 20$ toy only to go 'oops you already had that one, ha ha!'.
Why is the idea of blind box/bag toys so popular anyway? I mean I guess everybody likes surprises and can trade away when they get repeats but wouldn't you appreciate to know what you're buying?

Really there's no one to fault but their own poor choice of distribution. A 15$ toy is not a good pick for a blind box retail model, especially with a number of the more popular characters only available as chase figures. Can't say I'm surprised at all to hear they lost money on them.

Agreed that the mismatched business model probably tanked it. The retailers and customers probably both had the same thought - $15+ for a blind item? No thanks, retailers not stocking and customers not buying. :cry: Most blind bag items are small, cheap and simply made. TLS figures in comparison are large, sturdy, highly detailed, articulated, collector quality figures. I think they definitely command the price point that they are listed at - but not when you don't know what you're getting. To put another company as example, Funko. Their POP and other figure lines that appeal to collectors/adults are large, detailed, and put in visible packaging, even the chases. The blind packaged items that they do are much smaller, simpler figures or something like buttons/keychains/etc, a cheaply made item that can be sold at only a couple of dollars to the consumer.
Blind items should be marketed to kids as they are typically $2 pocket money items and have a "collect em all!" style marketing that the price range allows to be feasible, and kids are way more likely to collect with school friends and physically trade their doubles away. If TLS were just in visible packaging, I think they would have done a helluva lot better. They were appealing to the right market (collectors) but using the wrong packaging and advertising strategy.
In regards to doubles, the case assortments definitely need work on top of that. A pop culture collector channel that I enjoy watching (maxmoefoepokemon, warning that he's not exactly family friendly) recently opened an entire case of TLS Dragon Ball Z figures, and there was much angry screaming. He got both the 1/48 and the 1/96 chases from the same case, but was missing one of the "commons", and got 4 of one character, and 2 each of five others. And there was an additional build-a-figure of Shenron, but the pieces of him were seemingly ALSO randomly assorted, so he only ended up with half a dragon and a bunch of doubles of the minor accessories too! It's so frustrating that TLS as a company would produce such worthwhile products but allow themselves to be kneecapped by their own packaging decisions.
I'm happy they existed at least. Shame, I'd like to get less remade characters from SOME line, whether it have been in that form or the Bridge Direct ponies. Can we please have more than the collectors ponies and rainbow ponies? I hope the BD ones don't go the way of these ones where they scrap their other ideas due to low sales.
I really hate the fact that TLS company marketed the rarity of their chasers being worth "hundreds to thousands" (as stated at their website). So very exclusive and "rare" that now they complain of losing money. Poor distribution and poor marketing strategy that obviously didn't entice enough buyers.There is no worth unless there is a market for them. I seriously doubt there were many pony collectors who are that involved with this set that they would shell out that much money for one (1) plastic posable horse.

That said they first built up a loyal fan base with cheaper, simpler products before making the ones with more bells and whistles. Funko could release something similar and because they have that brand loyalty they probably would do OK. But TLS haven't built their brand up yet.:awake: This, this, this. The standard LOL surprises are around $10, and while that's a bit much, they do have the added novelty of the 8-10 layers of surprises (and trash to throw away!). The gig for this set was that they're posable but feel like they're going to fall apart? Wasn't enough to justify the price at all. At least maybe now I'll be able to nab them for clearance prices if they just rot at my HT.
Agreed that the mismatched business model probably tanked it. The retailers and customers probably both had the same thought - $15+ for a blind item? No thanks, retailers not stocking and customers not buying. :cry: Most blind bag items are small, cheap and simply made. TLS figures in comparison are large, sturdy, highly detailed, articulated, collector quality figures. I think they definitely command the price point that they are listed at - but not when you don't know what you're getting. To put another company as example, Funko. Their POP and other figure lines that appeal to collectors/adults are large, detailed, and put in visible packaging, even the chases. The blind packaged items that they do are much smaller, simpler figures or something like buttons/keychains/etc, a cheaply made item that can be sold at only a couple of dollars to the consumer.
Blind items should be marketed to kids as they are typically $2 pocket money items and have a "collect em all!" style marketing that the price range allows to be feasible, and kids are way more likely to collect with school friends and physically trade their doubles away. If TLS were just in visible packaging, I think they would have done a helluva lot better. They were appealing to the right market (collectors) but using the wrong packaging and advertising strategy.
In regards to doubles, the case assortments definitely need work on top of that. A pop culture collector channel that I enjoy watching (maxmoefoepokemon, warning that he's not exactly family friendly) recently opened an entire case of TLS Dragon Ball Z figures, and there was much angry screaming. He got both the 1/48 and the 1/96 chases from the same case, but was missing one of the "commons", and got 4 of one character, and 2 each of five others. And there was an additional build-a-figure of Shenron, but the pieces of him were seemingly ALSO randomly assorted, so he only ended up with half a dragon and a bunch of doubles of the minor accessories too! It's so frustrating that TLS as a company would produce such worthwhile products but allow themselves to be kneecapped by their own packaging decisions.
The only one I'm missing is Gusty, but I'm not willing to pay over $100 for one on eBay since I got the rarer Lickety Split for significantly cheaper. If they were slightly cheaper I probably would have bought more in the hunt for her, but I can't justify the expense when re-selling them for cost is so difficult, and nobody is interested in trading. I was so keen for these but they really flopped.

This is the same issue I'm having! I bought a bunch from Hot Topic, and I've managed to sell a total of one! :P (To a good pony friend of course, which was great!) I'm thinking I'll just customize my extras, because it seems like everyone is in the same boat trying to sell off doubles.
personally i wouldn't customize these, since they are a no go they could be very sought after in the future and worth a lot.
just imagine in 10 or 20 years and these are racking in hundreds :lol: :P
Well since it was such a limited run. I'd like to see customized TLS ponies! No one wants the commons.... sadly.
Customizing would totally expand the pony line :biggrin: My TLS pony display would look awesome :joy: Painting it all black would give it the ToyFair look- haha. What paint to use tho? With the movable joints & pop in/out, wouldn't want to use the wrong paint & cause rubbing/chipping. I'd like to try on the princess unicorn since I have 3 :frolic:
