Title: "Bloody" Pony or Plasticizer Leakage?
Post by: Ragamuffin on September 18, 2019, 09:04:00 PM
Back in May I bought some MIB Mexican G3s (Royal Bouquet and Rarity), and they've stayed in their package ever since, sitting in my closet. When I first got them, Royal Bouquet had some brown stuff on her, nothing major. Just a brown spot on her Cutie Mark. I thought it was a factory flaw or something.

Earlier today I was looking at them again, and I noticed it sort of... spread? Or at least more appeared. There's some on her neck and legs. My initial description of it, is that it sort of looks like how spilled soda looks like when it's dry and sticky. On second inspection, it has this reddish tint to it, and it's looks like some is coming OUT of her neck. The pictures don't show the true colour, it sort of looks like dried blood!

Rarity looks fine as far as I can tell, it's just Royal Bouquet that looks like this. I've heard about plasticizer leakage, but have never seen pictures of it. Only I've seen stories like, "oh I used to have this squishy pony, then she got all sticky, now she's rock-hard!". Is this what it looks like?

(I accidentally hit send...! I guess the post was pretty much done but still. And of course I was having fun about the "bloody" bit :P)

You can't see plasticizer leakage, it's just a thing you notice upon touching a pony. So I'd assume this is a different issue. I have a couple Mexican G3s but neither have anything like this going on so I don't know what it is. Might be an issue specific to them? Hopefully someone else knows what's up!

Oh no! Poor pony! Maybe she had some bad food and threw up?

Yeah you'd have to feel her to know if it's plastisizer leakage. It looks like her color is leeching out, maybe mixed with the plastisizer?

Rarity looked fine in the package but now that she's out I can see she has some stains.

Yes, they feel absolutely disgusting. Sticky all over. You can see on Royal Bouquet how nasty she is. Bouquet has a bit of a greasy feel too. Rarity is just sticky.

I'd reckon there was a small hole in the original packaging, add in plasticizer leaking, time, dirt and voila, you've got results!

Leaking plasicizer can absolutely leave oily drops like that. I figure it's caused by extra humidity. Where are you located? Is it humid where the ponies are stored?

Oh, it's humid everywhere. It's unavoidable. :P It hasn't been as bad this year but its not uncommon to see 90%+ humidity. Whenever I order ponies and they come in, they tend to be sticky as well, but not like this where you can see it. Usually this will happen on G3 ponies, but I've gotten sticky G4s as well.

These ponies came on a card, and there weren't any visible openings in it, so I'm not sure if dirt could've gotten in there. The colour of the "blood" is red. If dirt had gotten in there, I would think it would be a more brown or grey-ish colour... I'm with SaraMari, could it be the dye or whatever or something that's giving it the red colour? Or a fungus?

The stains on Rarity are a bright, bright, pink/orange, like a regrind. I don't see anything like that on Royal Bouquet, just the dried red liquid spots.

I haven't cleaned them yet but plan to later today if I remember.

yep that is plasticizer leakage and its pulling some of the pigments with it.... that's why you see it in raised puddles all over the pony in the packaging...

I would make sure that your pony room has a dehumidifier !!!!

You mean I don't have a real-life pony creepypasta on my hands?! Boo.

Here's the happy ending: I wiped off the Real Blood drops and she looks so much better now! AND she has the most precious face! Too bad I can't do much more with her at the moment because she's gonna be sticky for a while. :P
