Title: Replacing G2 eyes?
Post by: lordalexander74 on May 11, 2019, 01:09:32 PM
Swarovski crystals seem to be a popular choice. Though the smallest size available on Amazon is 3-3.1mm... which appears to be exactly the same size, or maybe too big. Least when I tried to measure with a standard ruler.
Will this be alright?

What color crystal is best to use? I've only got two G2s, and both seem to be some variety of pink crystals.

And how would one attach the crystals? A tiny bit of superglue?

Thanks

Yes, I believe 3mm is the usual recommendation. For the color matching, this post (http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,348809.msg1084469.html#msg1084469) might help you out.

If you only have two G2s to restore, you might be better served buying the crystals individually from a site like artbeads.com rather than by the gross on Amazon.

Maybe this helps:

A little drop of glue usually does the trick ;)

Got a few more issues.

Was browsing artbeads, couldn't find any pointback swarovski crystals, only flatback. Does that make a difference?
And what about specific color? Found a few variations of flatback white crystals.

Only need two crystals for my Dainty Dove, and one for Ivy.

Flatbacks will not fit well, unfortunately. :( I recommend  https://www.fusionbeads.com, as they have a nice selection of appropriate crystals. I’ve ordered from them before, and never had any problems. :)

I was told that superglue causes issues with the Swarovski crystals. I used Araldite Clear 2-part epoxy adhesive (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JYQA82/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) instead, and it worked perfectly. :)
