Title: Let's help motivate each other to reach our goals
Post by: Ponyfan on September 06, 2021, 06:36:28 AM
Hi,

I'm heavier than I should be but I am finally starting to do something about it.  With my dr's approval I have started taking Slim Shots and dieting.  I know the Slim Shots aren't magic and to lose the weight I have to make a conscious effort to watch what I eat and really try.

I need help staying motivated and I thought in the spirit of Crowning Glory's Healthy Pony threads instead of making it just a thread about me it could be a thread where we can encourage each other about things. :D

I'm in the same situation, I'm being referred for gastric bypass but I need to lose weight on my own first before I'm approved. I've been dieting for about a week and half and I already feel better :) I'm trying to do high protein/low carb.

I'm also trying to walk more around my apartment (I can't walk far enough to actually walk outside) and my daily goal is over 1000 steps. It's not much, but every little bit helps.

We can do this! :cheer:

I’m heavier than I need to be too, and it just makes my chronic back pain from a previous injury that much worse. I need to walk more than I have been; 1000 steps would be a good start. Like BlackCurtains said, we can all do this if we stick to it :frolic:

I am also heavier than I should be. I’ve been watching what I eat and exercising more for a few months now. I’m down about 10 pounds from where I was, but it seems like I’ve stagnated the past couple weeks. Ideally I’d like to lose another 10. A community effort would be awesome! :) Healthy Pony really did help when I last participated.

I think I need to incorporate more resistance training into my workouts. I was doing that a couple months ago and seeing results, but lately I’ve been busy and too tired to do any high intensity exercise.

Sounds like we’re all in the same boat!
I’ve been doing Noom for the past couple months, and I will admit I’ve had so many slip ups, but I’m down 15lbs! What’s been helping me is eating a TON of fruits and veggies, drinking water, and just trying to be active for 30 minutes a day.

We all got this! I think this thread would be helpful for advice as well as just pushing eachother to our goals!!

I was not very active. I have chronic pain and it's bad today. I did some stretches, but that was all.

I'll get some exercise tomorrow since I'm going out for a while.

I'm happy that others want to participate. :) I forgot to mention in my original post that anyone that needs help staying motivated for anything is welcome to join in.  It doesn't have to be for weight loss.

I'm trying to drink more water, be more mindful of serving sizes and am going to be replacing my regular Coke with Coke Zero.  I also have some Crystal Light drink mixes I will be using and am going to try Hint Water.  I've had bad luck with flavored water before because most of it tastes terrible to me.

What is everyone having for dinner? I'm making tilapia filets with quinoa.

I had brisket, potato salad and baked beans but I watched my portion sizes.

I had a sandwich, some grapes, and I’m trying to drink some water. How has everyone’s activity been today? I haven’t walked as much as I need to, but I’m doing my best

I walked a lot today even though I haven't felt well.

Does anyone use a fitness app or tracker?  I use a Fitbit and the Fitbit app.  I just started using the app seriously to count calories.

Part of my struggle with weight loss is my family’s eating habits. Tonight we had food from a local Mexican restaurant, but I had a really light lunch to buffer the huge dinner. I got a lot of steps in (over 10,000!), but I didn’t do much high intensity exercise. I did run a few flights of stairs at home though.

I’m torn because I like going over to my parent’s house to eat and hang out, but my dad is a big believer in intermittent fasting and can not understand the portions of food he cooks and orders from restaurants is excessive. Especially for those of us who haven’t been starving ourselves all day! My mom is trying to lose weight too, so she’s been pushing for more reasonable portions with me, but it seems like change is only ever temporary. I’d probably have better eating habits if I prepared my own dinners, but I don’t want to hurt my parents feelings. :(

I use a combination of Fitbit and LoseIt to track my weight loss. LoseIt makes it really easy to track the foods I’m eating and calories, and it syncs right in with my Fitbit app too, so I only have to enter the food in one place. I also have the Fitbit scale that tracks my weight, BMI, and body fat%, so I find that helpful in seeing my overall trends rather than just weight.

EDIT: Ponyfan, I see you’re trying to find a good flavored water. I’m not sure if they sell it where you are (it’s made here in AZ), but I am a HUGE fan of Yerbae sparkling water. It’s super sweet, but it has no sugar, no artificial sweeteners, and no calories. All the ingredients are plant based too. :) The only downside is it is caffeinated, so you have to be mindful of that. I’ve found 1 can generally gives me the perfect boost in my day.

I need to be better about exercising daily.  I've been walking on the treadmill but got out of the habit last winter when I got a cold and then I had a hard time picking it back up and my use fell off completely when my sister's kids were here for Spring Break and again for the summer.  So I'm trying really hard to get back into it and I found that my shoes weren't helping because they were slightly too large and it caused my feet to rub and feel sore when I was trying to run so I've bought new ones and we'll see if these make it better.

I've also been trying to lose weight by watching what I eat and trying to limit sweets but I got out of habit with tracking last Christmas because I wanted to see if I was at a point where I keep the weight loss going without tracking.  While I haven't gained a lot back, I have gained some so I need to be better about tracking it.

It's hard to eat better at home because my mom doesn't want to eat what I cook (probably because it isn't loaded with sugar and salt) but if I don't eat what she cooks she gets offended so I have to be careful about breakfast and lunch (since I eat those at work) so that I can actually eat dinner.  One of these days I'll be able to afford to move out and then I think it will make a big difference, but for now I'm just trying to work out better and try to watch my portions.

Non-exercise goal: I have a bunch of art projects that I've started and I really need to finish them.  I feel like I'm excited to start them but once I get to a certain point I seem to get distracted. So I need to focus and get some things done!

I use MyFitnessPal. Using it along with actually weighing and measuring my food with a scale and measuring cups/spoons has really helped for me.

I don't have a weight loss goal - I actually had the opposite problem growing up as I couldn't put on weight and am finally at a decent weight that the doctors don't give me grief about (mutters about doctors who are obsessed with BMI). But I am very conscious about my diet. My Dad has a hereditary issue where his body can't deal with cholesterol, so he has a very strict diet (his Dad died as a result of it quite young, I never met him, so Dad is very hot on checking saturates and such).

I eat a pretty good diet especially when at home because of growing up with Dad's rules (none of the rest of us are so strict) but I had a pretty bad cake habit in London and also I still probably eat too many unhealthy dessert things. So my resolve through lockdown - especially as I'm 6 months from turning 40, eek - has been to cut back on cakes as much as possible. I've done a really good job actually, and I'm starting to pay more attention on my own account to sugar, saturated fat etc in ingredients as well.

I can't cook (executive function, yay me) so in London I was eating a lot of processed food as well. While here, I'm trying to add more fresh veg to stuff I heat in the microwave, since I can't prepare a meal from scratch. It's helpful having Dad's input on that as well.

But my real goal right now is trying to sort out my academia.

I have major problems with organisation. I love writing but I've been made to feel so horrible by academics over the last year and a half, in most part because they give very patronising advice based on what is often wrong information. I am not pretending that there aren't times my writing has problems. I have serious issues with organisation and structure and pretty much nobody helping me on that at the moment - but it's when someone comes in at you all patronising and then gets all their information wrong that I just lose it.

So instead of trying to write an article, I've been building a website around my knowledge instead. I'm about halfway through the most tedious part of it. I coded it from scratch and I'm quite pleased with its layout, but I really want to get it done and finished so I can email one of the nice people in my field and ask them to look at it.

Academia is like an unhealthy relationship for me in that I love it, I know I can do it, and yet am constantly hitting the walls put up by other people. They've made me lose so much confidence in myself since my VIVA, which is annoying. It's especially annoying since I know people whose work is in print with factual mistakes that haven't been called out. But I still want to break those walls down. So that's my goal right now.

I have no idea what post-covid world is going to mean for me, job-wise. But right now this is all I can do.

I can definitely relate to that. I had a horrible time at school with hardly any means of getting off campus, so I ate way too much processed food. Trying to get myself on a better track now that I'm at home.  :awake:

Well, I am doing a terrible job.

I'm a stress eater and under some big stress right now, so I bought ice cream with all the fixin's and a whole cheesecake. I ate two pieces of cheesecake already. I live alone and hate wasting food so... I'll be eating all of it.

Go me.

I had my first weigh in today since i started really trying to watch what I eat and taking the Slim Shots.  I didn't gain but I didn't lose either.  I stayed the same.   I was hoping that I lost some.  The staff at my drs office said most people don't lose the first week they start the shots but will lose the 2nd week.  I'm still waiting for the pills that I'm supposed to take with the shots to arrive.  I was hoping they'd be here today.

My mom bought me a planner yesterday to help me keep track of my weight lose and shots progress.  If I lose or maintain my weight I get a sticker.  She thinks having a visual way to track my progress will help keep me motivated.

  I also stress eat sometimes.  The first time I really noticed it was when my mom was in the hospital and I realized I was hungrier than usual and not being satisfied with my normal portion sizes.

I understand the pain and could also use some encouragement. I started hiking again with my best friend (ex military and trainer) and he kinda works me pretty hard but I’m trying to keep up. If I can lose the weight I need to drop I’ll be happy.

Yeah, this is a hard one to get right.  A lot of times you look at the calories and think, "Hey, I can have a bowl of cereal because there's only 110 calories in it" without realizing that a serving is half a cup (depending on the cereal--your mileage may vary).  Pretty sure that most bowls hold way more than that so you don't realize how much you're eating unless you measure it out yourself.  The other night my parents made some chicken noodle thing for dinner and made a package for each of us.  There were 2.5 servings in each package.  My mom bought some flavored coffee creamer to pour over fresh peaches (peaches and cream) and was excited to find one that "only" had 5 carbs...per tablepoon, not per cup.  I can't get her to look at portion size, she just looks at how much is in a serving and assumes that her version of a serving is the same as the people that try to make their foods look healthy.

I had my annual physical this morning and my blood pressure was surprisingly good (I have White Coat Syndrome) so now I'm just waiting to see what my blood draw says about my cholesterol and sugar.

I also struggle with portion control, one of the holiday gifts my company is offering this year is a food scale. It’s a boring gift but I’m thinking about selecting it….I’m really not good at eyeballing/ measuring things out.

I’ve been really struggling to be active lately. Part of it is that I’m busy, but part of it has also just been a lack of motivation. I enjoy walking, but it’s been too hot to go outside on my lunch breaks. I’ve been going out to the pool instead, but once I hit the water I find myself wanting to lounge instead of swim or jog. I could do some guided exercises inside, but at the same time I really like leaving my house/workspace for those 45 minutes.

A food scale and measuring cups/spoons are so important if you are trying to watch what you eat, especially with calorie dense things like oils/butter, pasta/rice, meat/cheese & nuts. It can be very difficult to eye these things especially if you aren’t used to portion control and you could be adding hundreds more calories more than you think you are eating. For example, photos like in this article (https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.insider.com/same-dishes-with-less-calories-photos-2018-4%3famp) always shock me because they don’t look that different on the plate but there is such a large calorie difference.

Oh wow, this was really insightful, thanks for sharing this! I’ve never even thought about cooking without oil….I guess I may have to give it a try. I’ll be honest and say I’ve never counted the olive oil I use for cooking towards my calorie count, so that could be part of what’s holding me back from losing more weight. I also think I’m guilty of eating too much of the healthy fats. I tend to eat a lot of nuts at a time when I break those out.

Does anyone want to share pictures of the meals they’re proud of? It might help us see that there are good, filling meals to eat while watching your weight. :)

Minty Magic That looks so healthy and so delicious!

I think I'll join this group too... I'm looking to lose weight and get more active too. I've been trying to get used to Intermittent Fasting by skipping breakfast but so far it has not worked... so I'm thinking of skipping lunch too and seeing where that leads me and eating dinner before 8:00pm.
to be more active I have to just do some exercise routine in the morning after I get up and maybe in the afternoon...

there is an app that I use called Myfitnesspall app and it works great in counting calories... its free for that or you can sign up to it and there is tones of other things you can do on it like count your macro's and exercise routines.
It can sinc with your fitbit. the problem for me is motivation....

I think fasting would be bad for me, with my gastroparesis and hypoglycemia. In fact, several years ago when I was regularly going to a gym I found I was actually eating more food. It was very small portions throughout the day, including some meal replacers (Myoplex lite) and I was still losing weight. The big difference was I had a real appetite and got hungry, whereas when I wasn't working out and like now, I eat because I think I should, not necessarily because I'm hungry. I don't get hungry very often. I figure it'd because I'm not burning off the calories.

So with that in mind, I've been eating small portions of lots of things all day instead of two or three bigger meals. My back is still messed up so I can't exercise like I want. Even doing arm curls puts too much strain on my back (my posture is not good). But overall, I'm feeling better. I'm not bloated like usual and my head seems clearer. Still eating emotionally right now though.

Thanks for the kind words on the meal everyone! :)

My dad is a huge believer in intermittent fasting. I did it for a while, and I guess I do still do it to some degree now. I skip breakfast and only eat lunch and dinner. I’m not usually ever hungry when I wake up. I think there are different intervals you can choose too. I might fall under 12 on/12 off for my schedule.

My dad is extreme though, he only eats one a meal a day which causes a lot of frustration for us with dinner. He’s the primary cook of the family, and since he’s been starving himself all day, the portions are insane. Even when we order food, he orders WAY too much for everyone to eat. For example last night we had burritos he made. He believes that all store bought tortillas are “too small” for burritos and drives 30 minutes out of his way to get these massive, like 12” tortillas that can only be bought at a small shop that makes tortillas by hand. Whenever we complain about his portions he just brushes it off and says if we fasted too we wouldn’t have to worry about counting calories.

It doesn’t seem healthy to have only one meal a day, but idk he’s been doing it for close to 3 years now and he gets the best check ups of any of us. We think the only reason it works for him is he’s possibly the only person on earth who has the willpower to keep that kind of diet up.

if you exercise what you take in your going to lose weight because muscle needs food or protein. that's why there are whey or protein shakes for those who exercise. oh and your metabolism rises so you can eat more and still lose the weight.
BlackCurtains what if you tried Physical Therapy for your back so you can get back to normal and not hurt all the time?
My moms Physical Therapist said to me, "If it hurts Use it!" I'm now signing up for Physical Therapy Also...

I feel like fasting wouldn't be too hard for me, but I keep seeing a bunch of conflicting methods of safely doing it
Warning! Intermittent Fasting Is NOT for Everyone and you must seek your Doctor's Advice Before Starting.
In order for Intermittent Fasting to work, You must get up at an reasonable time in the morning if your going to fast breakfast. 5am-9am basically you can not sleep through your fasting hours its cheating and it don't work. some how your body puts itself into Hibernating Mode... We don't want to be put into Hibernating Mode. I don't know whole lot about Hibernation Mode but I know it happens. there is an app for intermittent fasting tells you when your fasting and when your eating.

I have an idea for you if you'd like to here it... get the MyFitnessPal App. use the free version. it will help you count your calories by adding the food in to the slots everyday and you can even set a calorie goal & a weight loss goal.

I need to find out what is wrong first with an MRI. Then I can see a specialist and they can hook me up with more referrals to other services. I did have PT for my back a couple of years ago and it helped a lot. Sometimes the therapy consisted of an intense massage which was great!

I'm giving the My Fitness Pal app a try.  I haven't been able to sync it to my Fitbit yet but I don't really mind logging my food in to 2 apps.

My supplement that I'm supposed to use with the Slim Shots arrived today.  They were delayed due to the pharmacy being short staffed.

I had blood drawn last week and yesterday my drs office called and said that I needed to meet with the dr today.  He told me that my fasting glucose and my A1C levels show that I'm a pre-diabetic.  He's concerned but thinks I can get it down to a more normal level by losing weight and watching what I eat.   He told me I need to cut back on carbs and sugary beverages. He said Coke Zeroes are okay since they don't have sugar.

I'm already at/over my calorie count for today.  I went out to eat after my drs appointment.  I'm skipping lunch though so that should save some calories.

My dr also recommended intermittent fasting but due to my work schedule (I usually have to get up at 5:30 am for work) I'm not sure that it's a viable option for me.

I lost a pound this week.  :cheer:

Woohoo Ponyfan! :cheer:

I weighed myself today out of curiosity. My scale is off by 7 lbs but it was showing that I've lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks. I get weighed again at my doctor on the 27th, so I'll see if my scale is correct. IF that's true, that's good considering I haven't been watching what I eat for the past 6 days. I ate a whole 8 slice cheesecake and a quart and a half of ice cream, plus two medium pizzas in the last week. The rest of what I've eaten has been normal stuff with regular portions.

Thank you Black Curtains.  I hope I'll lose another pound this week too.

I'm stressed about my A1C being so high.   I have no one to blame but myself for it happening because I wasn't watching how many Cokes I was drinking a day and now I feel really guilty about it.

I know I can get it back down but  I have to make major changes for that to happen.

If you are wanting to cut down on soda, I have a tip. It only works if you drink from the can though because you can cheat by using ice. Anyway, allow yourself a certain number a day and only put those in the fridge. I drink two sodas a day, so there is only ever two cold and ready to drink. Before going to bed, I stick another two in for the next day.

Also, drinking more water will help too. I bought a couple of these - 32oz water bottles (https://www.amazon.com/Pogo-BPA-Free-Plastic-Water-Bottle/dp/B00WH2NIOO/ref=sxin_14_ac_d_rm?ac_md=0-0-d2F0ZXIgYm90dGxl-ac_d_rm_rm_rm&cv_ct_cx=water%2Bbottle&dchild=1&keywords=water%2Bbottle&pd_rd_i=B00WH2NKRO&pd_rd_r=8554625d-b1b4-4ade-aa04-3bf720967aae&pd_rd_w=N6Bti&pd_rd_wg=0sW37&pf_rd_p=c41d1f6c-956c-4fe2-8019-1663b7e1dd23&pf_rd_r=WAQ7X8TEFEJG5S09XMCZ&qid=1632174628&sr=1-1-12d4272d-8adb-4121-8624-135149aa9081&th=1&psc=1) - and love them. Having them really makes me drink more water. I rotate having one in the fridge so I can always have cold water.

I'll try to remember to post a recipe for No-Crust Pizza when I get home.  I found it in a DASH Diet book and I really like it.  I usually make it up and then eat it during the week.  It makes 6-8 servings depending on how you divvy it out but I also think it's filling so I don't eat too much of it at a time.

Got my blood test results back from my physical.  Everything looks good! :whew: Cholesterol is good, kidneys are working and they said the A1C test "came back negative" (so no diabetes) which is good because it runs in my family.  (It all runs in my family on both sides: cancer, high cholesterol, heart issues, diabetes, obesity, addiction, mental illness...the whole shebang so the longer I stave it off the happier I am!)

ETA: I also bought a new water bottle this weekend.  It was invented by someone locally (I go to church with his uncle) but it has a thing in the lid that lets you put in flavoring and then there's a switch to turn on and off the flavor so you can go back and forth between plain water and flavor.  You can buy the flavors they make (they have some yummy ones) or you can just go to the store and buy the ones available on the shelf (like Mio or Kool-Aid or Crystal Light).  I bought the one they list as pink (in person it looks more lavender) but here's a picture of the clear bottle/lid so you can see what it does.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They're also backwash-proof so if your kids get them, they won't leave floaties in your water!  They said you can just get the lid and it will fit on other bottles but the bottle I got is also really well insulated so ice lasts a long time.  If you're trying to drink more water this might help because you can get 0 Calorie and sugar-free flavors and the switch lets you control how much flavor you get, so you can turn it up (for lots) or down (for just a bit) depending on what you want to taste.

I find it best to just not have it in the house, myself, because I know if it's in there I'll eat/drink whatever the thing I'm trying to moderate is. No self control. I now replace fizzy drinks with carbonated mineral water. I started with mineral water mixed 1/2 & 1/2 with juice and now have mineral water only, sometimes with a slice of lime or lemon if I'm having a craving.

 Way To Go Ponyfan!!!! Congrats!!!  Don't be discouraged if you gained that pound back though, we all fluctuate in weight during the day!!! So Keep Moving forward!!!! :cheer:

its been a few days since I last said something on this post sorry for the delay... I will have to explain everything in another off topic post   :frolic: But I'm more motivated then ever!

How do you like the Myfitnesspal app? there is so much you can do from it. you can add recipies and it will remember them for the next time. scan in food that you buy from the store.

I'm so glad your doc approved you for intermittent fasting! I'm not a pro at it yet but there is an app out there that tells you when your fasting and when not to fast and when to drink water while fasting. I'll have to find the name of that one for you... only problem with that app you have to reset it each week. It says you can buy into the app with for a coach, but you don't have to do that.

Oh you get up at 5.30am you don't necessarily have to fast breakfast... you can fast dinner or lunch. some people fast breakfast and lunch then have small dinner at the end of their day.

any way of switching to a diet soda? no sugar no calories. my moms diet trition said she can have all the diet soda she can drink.

BlackCurtains what if you tried Physical Therapy for your back so you can get back to normal and not hurt all the time? My moms Physical Therapist said to me, "If it hurts Use it!" I'm now signing up for Physical Therapy Also...

Yes that makes more sense than jumping back into PT...

Those are neat water bottles BlackCurtains and Pokeyonekenobie.  Right now I'm using a Bubba insulated bottle at work and a Built 20 oz insulated tumbler at home.  I like the water bottles that have the marks on them to show you how much water you're drinking but I don't have one of those though.

I lost 2 pounds this week. :cheer:  :cheer:  I've lost 3 pounds since I started to seriously watch what I eat.

I drank most of the regular Pepsi that I had so I am starting to take Coke Zero to work for lunch.  It still tastes a little funny to me because I'm used to how regular Coke tastes but it does save a lot of calories.  I'm not sure how much of it I can drink.  My dr said it was okay to drink them but my mom says I can't have an unlimited amount of them.  Maybe she just means that I should make sure I'm drinking water and not just Coke Zero.

I like the My Fitness Pal app but I'm still getting used to it.  I'm a little confused how some of the calorie counts can be a little different for the same item but I figure that it's better to overestimate calories than to underestimate them.

Congrats on the weight loss Ponyfan, that is awesome news! :)

I have been off track he past few days. I went camping over the weekend and I overestimated how much exercise I thought I would be getting, and thus how much food I could eat. I went disgustingly over my allotted calorie amounts for the past 2 days. On the upside though, I just weighed myself and I seem to weigh the same amount as when I left, so hopefully I have not set myself too far back from my goal! I’m down about 10 pounds from when I started keeping track back in July, so I have about another 10 pounds I’d like to lose.

Go Ponyfan :cheer: :D

I get weighed at my doctor's tomorrow. Unfortunately, since I hurt my back, I haven't been walking like I wanted to. I talked to the dietician and she didn't tell me anything new but she said she's sending me a packet in the mail that has exercises for sitting down among other things. She also said there would be something about portion control and how the Food Pyramid I grew up with is out of date and there will be the new one in the packet. I think I've seen it online a few times.

I've been eating well though after my depression binge wore off. I got groceries yesterday and didn't order any ice cream or cheesecake or anything else I shouldn't be eating :cheer: I did get BBQ potato chips to eat with sandwiches but that was all.

I've been super thirsty the last few says. It's either from my temporary medicine for my back or because the humidity is lower than usual. So I've been drinking more water and cold brew coffee.

I think I'll probably gain this week though.  There is a lot going on at home right now and I'm already over my calorie limit for the day.  If I gain though I will keep trying.

It's okay to slip up :) Don't be hard on yourself. I hope things improve for you

My doctor weighed me and I don't know where I got 9lbs from, I've actually lost 2lbs. I guess that's not bad for a month of stress and emotionally eating. At least I didn't gain! I tried to recalibrate my own scale but it's still 7 pounds off.

I started making smoothies again, mostly fruit since I can't keep veggies very well (I have "green bags" which help keep it fresh but I still don't use them fast enough). My favorite mix is bananas, mixed berries, some peanut butter and cocoa nibs with whatever milk I have on hand. I'd really like to try oat milk, but my Walmart doesn't carry any. I could probably get it at Publix.

I've had a chocolate craving lately but I'm just eating a couple small handfuls of dark M&Ms before I go to bed and that's been satisfying.

Thanks BlackCurtains.  I know that I will gain some weeks and lose others but I'm really trying to watch what I eat and how many calories I consume.  I didn't  drink enough water today.  I've been pretty good about drinking it but it seemed like every time I was going to fill my tumbler up with ice water something else came up.

Congrats on losing 2 pounds. :cheer:   I lost another pound this week even though I thought I was going to gain.

I got some Pepsi Zero today.  I also tried some of the Hint water I bought but it didn't taste good.  It was supposed to taste like watermelon but to me it tasted like water with a watermelon aftertaste.  I'll finish the bottles I bought though.

Today was the last day of the Fair and we went out there for a bit.  I got a large Diet Coke but only drank a little of it and we all shared a large bag of Fair food and brought about 1/3 of the bag back home with us.

I'm fighting an awful craving for ice cream :( The little voice in my head is very convincing. I keep thinking, I don't need to buy a whole quart with chocolate fudge and whipped cream, I can just get something small. But then I think, something small is just going to make the craving worse. Then I think, get a quart but only eat a little bit at a time. And that seems to be the one that's winning... but then, it makes me want to buy chocolate fudge and whipped cream too because if I'm eating the whole quart (even if it's not in two sittings) I might as well go the whole way. So then I think, just get something small...

I'm trapped in a food loop! :yikes:

edit: I ended up getting two Ben & Jerry's. They're small. But there is two of them. So I think it will curb my craving and I won't feel deprived since I got two different flavors, and B&Js is of much, much better quality than the quart size ice cream I'd buy. So. I think I found a middle ground.

I lost another pound this week.  :cheer:  I thought I lost 6 pounds but it's 5.  I wasn't very good at tracking this week although I did try to watch my portion sizes most of the time.

I'm glad the Ben and Jerry's helped salsify your craving. Yesterday work catered an ice cream truck and I was a little nervous about the calorie count.   The ice cream was actually low carb and was very good.  It's the first time I've had low carb ice cream.

I've been craving nuts lately. I usually don't eat a lot of them but there's a small can of almonds that are sitting on the kitchen table that I've been eating.  I've been eating a serving at a time when I do eat them.

I eat one main meal a day but I have small fillers during the day to keep me from being hungry. I have to stop eating the fillers like candy or pot pies if I'm going to do Intermittent Fasting. I wonder what other diets there are...
Anyone know?
I also have to take time and count my calories every day.
Hmm what time do you count your calories... my mom gets mad at me when she sees me on my phone.

Wow Ponyfan, you are rocking it! Congrats on the weight loss! :)

Starflashbaby, I’m admittedly not the best about tracking my calories consistently through the day, but I try and enter them  evoke or after every meal so I don’t forget what I actually ate. Sometimes though I forget and I’m logging everything at the end of my day. Sometimes my parents get annoyed that I keep close tabs on my calorie intake like that, but I’ve let them know I have to do it so I can stay on track. It’s easier for me to overeat if I don’t log it all.

I haven’t lost anymore weight, but I’m not gaining either, so I guess that’s okay. I’m pretty consistently coming in under my calorie goal for the day, so at this point I think I need to work on getting more active, I’ve been pretty bad about exercising lately. I recently got my blood work done and was told every thing was normal and my cholesterol was quote, “excellent” so I’m happy about that! I’m always worried I eat too much sugar and sodium.

I’m also feeling a little more empowered because I found a sugar free soda I really like! The Zevia brand has no artificial sweeteners and no sugar. I did some reading up on it to be safe and it sounds like it’s a pretty neutral drink health wise. It doesn’t offer any nutritional benefit, but there have been no negative effects associated with drinking it, so yay for guilt free soda! Finding a natural sugar alternative I actually like has also inspired me to try some new sugar free recipients. Turns out Stevia is really hard to bake with, but I found a monk fruit blend on Amazon that appears to be mostly natural and has 0 calories, so I’m going to experiment with that and see if I can make some tasty treats I don’t have to feel guilty about. :)

I'll have to try harder to enter in my calories after I'm done responding to this I will enter them   ^.^
I'm stuck in the same boat not losing any weight but I haven't gained any eaither. I know if I enter my calories for the first 2 weeks I can see what I'm eating wrong and or sleeping too long could be the problem
But then I can see if I have to add exercises and what kind into my daily life. I'm supposed to start a fitness journey on my Instagram but I haven't got the yet
Let me know how that fruit blend from Amazon works please. Thanks in Advance.

Ah, I'm losing track. I was using My Fitness Pal everyday and then I tapered off. I was also being really good about portion control but that has also waned. I'm not very good at developing new habits.

My back is much better and I can walk around again. I walked my rent check across the street to drop it off and only had to rest for a minute or two before I headed back. Now if I can just remember to walk around my apartment throughout the day and hit my 1000 step goal.

What is resin pouring? :what:

I forgot to enter what I ate yesterday but the thing is if you remember you can go back and enter it. I had pizza at pizza ranch... and after my main meal I had fried ice-cream. today I didn't eat anything yet and its 5pm now.

Can I join?

So I started to faint, without warning. This started almost 2 years ago. Plus I was very over weight. So yeah, not exactly in the best of shape.

So I decided to work on me and to do what I could to improve. Then the pandemic hit, and I had no choice but to focus on me~!

So I started with 5 squats. I was sore for a week. Seriously. Anyway, I kept working at it, I kept with it till I was working out just a little everyday. Then I got Ring Fit and used that a few times a week. Then I started going to gym...then a yoga class...and now I am here.

A year later I currently work out 2 hours collectively a week. I do Ring Fit twice weekly, I have an hour yoga class, and I go to the gym every week. I also walk on my off days. I am currently down a size in my pants and I haven't fainted in a few months. My goal is continue and keep at it. I feel I have things to share and would love to share what has worked for me and what hasn't.

I don't know if anyone will find this useful, but awhile ago I switched to a low-saturated-fat diet to help with a disease I have, and I shed some significant pounds.  I was aiming for ~3 grams of saturated fat each day (but no limit for fish), which is tough, so it probably ended up like 3-6 on a given day.  Didn't change much else about my lifestyle or diet.  I managed this by only buying food once every other week through the grocery store online order system - it was easier to avoid temptations this way when I wasn't walking right by them in the store or driving right by fast food places!  It is hardest when eating with other people who just...want to give me a cheese plate, lol.

Currently I'm actually trying to gain weight back, per my doctor, but it is so difficult on this diet.   So if you are trying to lose weight maybe it would be helpful for you?

I know there is recent research saying that we shouldn't worry about fats so much as sugars, and also things saying it is just # of calories, and so on, I just wanted to share my personal experience with cutting saturated fats, specifically.

Overall I really learned that change can be very hard!  New habits are very hard to form!  I'm also kind of trying to stop biting my nails and it is...very difficult.  If anyone has tips for that, either things to do, or ways to motivate myself, I would love to hear them (other than the bitter-tasting stuff, I bite right through that).  Part of the problem is I don't really see a point in stopping.     But I still kind of want to, ya know?

Welcome, Zargata!  Join us... :zombie:

I've been teaching myself resin pouring recently.  I have used a UV resin with some success and I have managed to make my own molds that look like they will be awesome.  Now I just need to make time to try 2-part resin.  Then I can experiment even more!
Hey Pokeyonekenobie
What is resin pouring? :what:

People make lots of things with resin.  Some people make jewelry, some people make statues, some people make coasters.  There are a bunch of things you can make with it.  Epoxy Resin is the most popular, and it comes in 2 parts that you mix together and then you pour it into a mold and let it cure, usually for at least 24 hours. If you don't mix it properly, it won't cure and there's nothing you can do but scrap the piece and start over.  If you stir too vigorously or don't pour carefully, you'll end up with bubbles in your piece.  When it's done curing you can pop it out of the mold and you have a resin piece.  UV Resin requires UV light to set up, so I use a small UV lamp but you can also use sunlight to cure it.  The UV lamp makes it set up in a matter of minutes and is commonly used for smaller things like jewelry.

My friend makes jewelry, keychains, and jewelry boxes with her resin.  My sister makes tumblers and boxes. I'm going to do "Nerd" crafts.  For example, the molds that I made this week are the 16 Pokémon Oreos (I went through 9 packages of Pokémon Oreos to find the best ones to use) and I plan to make the resin Oreos into coasters and try a few other things with them.

You can find videos on how to do it on YouTube (that's what I've been watching a TON of).  I prepped my molds tonight.  If I can find the time I want to try pouring resin into the molds tomorrow after work.

I was very sore yesterday from doing household stuff the day before. Today I did stretching (and got A LOT of cramps in my muscles), some self resistance (is this a term?) arm curls and leg lifts. I'm sore again, especially my legs, but it felt good. I usually stretch every day but keep it basic. I put a little more effort in today and focused on my back. I think I should do this everyday, or at least 6 times a week. It was easy and I did it in bed.

Since I forgot about non-fitness goals until Pokey posted, I'm going to add in my current art goal :) I'm making a custom pony to honor/represent my sister who I lost a month ago. Today I want to start sculpting. I need to make a base and then lots of tiny sea shells. I also need to dig around in the craft closet and find my sand.

Thank you everyone.  :)   It hasn't been easy but I've been trying really hard.   It still surprises me what a difference switching to zero calorie Cokes and watching my portion sizes has made.  I had no idea how many calories I was actually taking in.  I wanted some chips the other day and was shocked when I found out that a serving of that kind of chips is only 6.  Between my mom and I we could eat a whole bag together.

Some days I'm really good about tracking and other days not so much.  Even on the days I don't track I usually try to watch my portion sizes.

I need to organize my desk/office area.  I was doing really good working on it a little at a time and then worked picked up and I haven't started working on it again.

I also have several things that I want to open and debox but at the moment all of the sit either in my closet or room waiting for that to happen.

Welcome to the thread Zaragata! We’d love to hear your tips on what worked well. :) Squats are a great exercise, I really need to get back into doing them. I was being faithful with them during the summer, but then after starting school again my schedule got thrown off a bit.

Thanks for the tip on the saturated fat SunPony! That is probably something I should pay attention to in the foods I eat. I watch sugar, sodium, and calories pretty closely, but fat is one I’ve always been lax with.

Starflashbaby, I know you asked for an update on baking with the Monk Fruit blend I got from Amazon. I whipped up a batch of vegan pumpkin chocolate chip cookies last night and it seems like it’s a great replacement for sugar!

The recipe DID have Molasses in it, so I think I need to try another batch of just regular chocolate chip cookies to make sure the monk fruit blend is adding the sweetness and not the molasses. ;) Still, I’m extremely pleased with how this batch of cookies turned out, my mom tried one and said she thought it was even sweeter than a “normal” cookie! You can substitute it cup for cup unlike stevia, and the texture of the cookies were not impacted by the substitute. The only weird thing I noticed is the brown sugar blend has a….cold? Aftertaste? I don’t exactly know how to describe it, it’s minty…but with no mint flavor. Once blended with all the other ingredients though the aftertaste isn’t nearly as strong.

I lost 2 pounds this week.  :cheer:  I'm down 7 pounds total.   I was a little worried because we had tailgate food yesterday at work and most of it was stuff that people had made so there was no way to know the calorie counts.  I ended up eating one soft taco with meat and queso, one extra flour tortilla and 2 mini roll sandwiches.

I had to buy a belt because my jeans are starting to become really lose around the waist.

I bought some magazine organizers and a file organizer this week.

Welcome Zargata. :)

Woohoo go Ponyfan :cheer:

I haven't really eaten anything in two days because I think I'm having a gastritis flare-up. Yesterday, I had half a turkey and cheese sandwich and today I'll eat the other half, but I'm not hungry at all right now. I skipped my coffee yesterday and today and have just been drinking water. Usually, I would take Alka-Seltzer but I can't because of my newest medicine. It sucks because I took Alka-Selzer a lot and have a bunch of it.

Tuesday is my consultation with the bariatric surgeon. I haven't weighed myself so I don't know if I've lost or gained. They'll probably weigh me there.

I started on my custom :) I made the base for her and today I'll be sculpting.

My weight has started to creep up again so I'm going to start calorie tracking again this week. I'd stopped tracking to see if I could continue to lose without it but apparently I need to be a little more conscientious of what I eat. I'd like to get it under control before it becomes a problem health-wise, considering that weight is one of the lovely genetic issues I get to contend with.  On the tracking app I'm using it lets you set a weight goal and then tells you how many calories to eat to get there (and it won't let you set it so low that you lose too much too fast, which is good) so I'm going to see if I can get to my weight goal by next September.

Non-weight goal: Clean my room/workspace this week so I can do some crafting this weekend!

Not quite.  According to the internet Apoxie Sculpt is like a mix between clay and resin.  The resin that I'm playing with starts out as a liquid and has to be poured into a mold.  You can't really mold it on its own.  The resin is also affected by temperature and humidity so since it's been raining I haven't wanted to do too much with it just yet.  Maybe later in the week I'll get a chance to try something.

I have decided I need to go through my stuff again. It's so hard not moving every 2 years anymore.  I've been buying a lot of craft supplies and realized that I have a ton of other supplies that I no longer need or intend to use so I'm going to have to do a purge.  I think I'm also going to downsize my MLPs.  I will definitely keep my G1s, as they were my childhood ponies but I'm just not as attached to the other gens.  I boxed up my G3s a couple of years ago with the intent to rehome them and then didn't do it because there was too much snow, and then I tore my ACL and couldn't walk and then COVID hit so they're still boxed up in the closet.  I have a ton of G4 duplicates that I'd set aside for customs but I just don't think I'll have the time to do that many so I'll be going through those and only keeping the ones that I have a definite design for.  So now I have to decide if I want to donate them to local charities or do a giveaway on here or something.  I'm leaning towards the giveaway so that I won't be tempted to re-buy them if I find them "in the wild" at the thrift stores I donated them to.  I think with the G4s I might make up boxes of the Mane six with all their accessories (if I can identify them as being specific to that pony).  So I'll have a Fluttershy box and a Rainbow Dash box, etc.  Not sure when, exactly, I'll get this stuff done but I plan to work on it on Sundays since that's the day I'll have the most time to dedicate to it.

Thanks, Ponyfan.  I'm a little bit stuck just because I'm not entirely sure what to do with all these ponies.  I don't know if I ought to offer them up for sale or put them in boxes and do a mystery box giveaway.  There are a ton of the mane 6, so unless someone has an army they'd like to contribute to, I'm not sure anyone wants them.

Your still doing very well Ponyfan don't let 1 pound get you down. Your down 9ibs in 8 weeks and on the 9th week you gained 1 so your still technically down 8 pounds from your original weight YOUR DOING FANTASTIC!!! KEEP IT UP!! :cheer:
we will all have our ups and downs when we go through weight loss... I have been staying the same between 306 and 300 so hopefully I can keep it off this next time I go down.

I have Fantastic Article for those who want to lose weight.
https://www.goodto.com/wellbeing/diets-exercise/what-is-calorie-how-many-lose-weigt-425557
its kind of a long article but its very informal for counting calories and how many you should eat to lose weight.
I'll go through the sum of it but You should read it for yourself...
It starts explaining what a calorie is and you need to burn 3,500 Calories just to burn 1 pound of fat. so in that you need to eat 500 or 1,000 calories less everyday in order to lose weight. it will show you how much calories you eat in a day how many it takes to stay the same. it will go through how active you are so if your a very active person, your an 1.9 on the activity scale and that will be measured in as well. or if your a couch potato or Sedentary like me 1.4 (Light activity and moderate activity is also calculated)
I'll Do mine first
for an example and this is just part of the article there is more tipps with in the article on Calorie counting.

After calculating my BMR in the article --->2099.95 calories then times x 1.4 (Which is my Activity Number) = 2,939.93 then Minus - 1,000 cal per day to get 1,939.93 calories to get as my goal. if i want to lose 2 ibs of weight each week. I rounded it too 1,600 calories as my goal in myfitnesspal app
i think it gives me a great visual overall about calories.
so let me know if its helpful or not.

https://www.goodto.com/wellbeing/burn-calories-without-trying-68231
& this was in it too as a side article... about how many calories it takes to do everyday work.

So I asked one of the ladies I work with if she thought her girls would like some ponies.  And she said that they'd love some.  Then I asked another co-worker if her kids wanted some and she said sure!  Then I asked another co-worker if her son would like some ponies and she said, "I know my husband would like it if my son liked ponies."  I had no idea he was a fan.  So basically all my G4s (except the few I am keeping) are going to go to my co-workers' kids or nieces.  That makes me happy because they are toys and should be enjoyed as such instead of sitting in boxes under my bed and in the closet.  Most of them are Mane 6 variations so I don't feel too bad about dumping them on my co-workers.

My G3 ponies, on the other hand, are still boxed up from 2017, when I was going to do a giveaway and then the weather was too bad to go to the post office, and then I tore my ACL and then Covid hit so I'll probably still do a giveaway on the arena for those.  But I need to clear out things so that I can get to them first...

I'm glad you found homes for the G4s  I hope the G3s goes just as smoothly!

As for my Goals
I'm doing pretty good lately getting up earlier than usual. I'm now adding what I eat into the myfitnesspal app again. I think I lost 6 ibs from the last time I went to the doctors office. It was 300 instead of 306 this time. So maybe when I go to the dr.s office again today I'll be under 300 crossing my fingers.
Edit...
I did not go to the doctor today...
Anyways
I have some motivation to lose weight 1 to fit in smaller clothes and 2 to fit in Municipal brand name. 3 to live longer and 4 to feel healthy in general.
Id like to make a fitness journey for Instagram (for fun) but I'm a shy person so I don't know how else to do this. Im not good at making videos.  Hmmm any ideas on how to do a fitness journey...

You can take pictures? Not just before and after but take them as you go. It will be fun to look back on when you lose the weight :) If you want to share your journey you could include what types of exercise you're doing, what you've been eating, tips and tricks you find along the way. You could make a rewards jar where you put some money in for every pound you lose, or for every week you exercise most days, or whatever. And when you've collected enough, buy something special for yourself :)

As far as my goals, I've been eating the same thing for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is coffee and a smoothie made with frozen bananas and mixed berries with 2% dairy milk or unsweetened almond milk, whichever I have on hand. Lunch is a cheese and turkey sandwich on multigrain whole grain bread. I keep dinner very light, a bowl of Cherrios or steamed green beans or lentil soup. I did order a pizza this week but it will be the only one this month. I also bought a pack of Java chip Oreos because I wanted to try them (I have to try everything coffee flavored :lol) and they only had a family sized pack. I only eat two every night so it's going to last me a very long time.

My art goals are going great! I spent yesterday sculpting and I've already rehaired my current custom. It will be a while before it's finished because it has a lot of sculpting but I do plan to finish it. The memorial pony for my sister needs sand and I have to order some before I can continue work on it. I shelved my Halloween custom for right now, since I missed the deadline and am way more excited to work on my current projects. I'll pick it back up later and just have it be a creepy custom.

I think I've finally managed to sort my G4s.  It's going to take me all week to get them into work in my car so I can give them to my co-workers.  Once I clear them out I can see what kind of space I really have and can rearrange my stuff to make crafting a bit easier.

My G4s have all been pawned off delivered to their new homes.  My co-workers were very excited and one of them is like "I don't want to give these to my daughters, I want to play with them." My other co-worker couldn't get her kids to go to bed the night she got her stuff because they wanted to play with them.  So they'll be loved.  Now I just have to figure out how to rearrange the new space I have to be useable for me.

Good work, Pokeyonekenobie :)

--

My most current goal is finishing my sculpture before the 14th. I'm painting it right now. It's gotten hard to handle though, it has spikey bits and it's heavy.

Nutrition goals? Ehh I've been doing pretty good except for today. I woke up really hungry and had a breakfast bar, but that didn't do much. I gave in and ordered lunch from Burger King. I got an extra sandwich for later and that will probably be all I eat for today.

How about money goals? I need to STOP spending right now. I bought a bunch of xmas presents and I have very little left (the BK order didn't help). I need to pay for Walmart+ which is $98 and I have that and like 45 left over. For the rest of the month. But I can't see what I would need to buy actually. I'm well stocked on food and household essentials. So maybe it won't be so bad.

@BlackCurtains.  I need to watch my spending right now too.  I.

I lost 6 pounds this week.   I was so surprised that I thought the scale must be wrong so the drs office had me step off the scale and then back on and the number was the same.

That's an Awesome Idea BlackCurtains! I Love it! That's what I'll do for my Instagram account then!

BlackCurtains - I'm glad your Art Goals are going well too! I too need to stop spending or slow down. I have to buy one more Christmas gift and I'm done with that.

pokeonekenobie - congratulations on getting the G4s new homes!

Ponyfan - that's 13ibs total!!! Congratulations too!

Nutrition wise I didn't do so well this week I didn't log in my meals cause I was eating more sweets and I didn't want tho see how bad I was really doing. This week will be different! I'll keep logging my intake on the app no matter what and I'll do more to watch what I eat. And I'll start that fitness journey! Yay I'm so excited!!!

I'm glad you liked it!

Ponyfan - Wow! Your metabolism must be up. That's good :) You can get to a point where your metabolism burns calories while you aren't even doing anything (I wish I had that :P )

My sculpture is done and sent into the event and I was able to make a second craft for another event yesterday! Now I can continue working on my pony customs after I give my hands a break.

My immediate goal for today is to houseclean. While I've been working on my art stuff I've neglected the kitchen and bathroom. I have a bunch of boxes to break down too. Time to put on some coffee and get to work!

BlackCurtains  I'm glad you were able to complete your projects.

I gained a pound this week.

Thank you! :) My sculpture won second place :D

I was weighed at my doctor yesterday and I've gained 2 lbs in a month. I'm kind of surprised because as far as I remember I haven't eaten much junk food. I ordered a pizza at the beginning of the month but that was the only one. For the last week or so I haven't been hungry at all. The day before yesterday I didn't eat anything. I'm considering getting some Slim Fast. In the past I've lost 60lbs on Slim Fast, twice. Not back to back unfortunately.

I haven't started back on my pony customs yet, maybe today.

I'm not doing good this week with food.  Having a lot of fast food around doesn't help.  With the holiday tomorrow I've decided not to worry about portions and just enjoy the food.  I can get back on track after Thanksgiving.

I really fell off my progress since I last post a WHILE ago on this thread. I just stopped eating as well as I had been (drinking water, more veggies and fruits, more fries and deep fried things, etc) but I did a weigh in the other day and, even though I gained back about 5 pounds, I am still at a lower weight then when I started! Obviously with Thanksgiving in the States tomorrow, it's going to be a STRUGGLE but I plan on starting back up on my health journey next week!

I'm going to have to add things to my diet, or eat them more often because I have iron anemia. It's kind of weird, because earlier this year, after 14 years, I started eating meat again. Only certain kinds, mainly turkey and beef. And meat is supposed to be the best for iron, so it must be super low. My freezer is already stuffed so I'm going to have to eat what's in there and then get frozen veggies, broccoli and green beans. I have canned beans and lentils already, just need to eat them more often.

On the art side of things, I want to make something for my mom for xmas. It's something she's asked for for a few years. I think I should do it this year. You never know when it will be the last opportunity you have to do something special for someone.

I gained a pound.  That's not too bad considering that I haven't been watching what I eat as well as I should have since Thursday.

Ponyfan your still doing Awesome!!! you lost 11 pounds  :cheer: stick with it!

BlackCurtains for my mom this Christmas I put some old pics together in a collage pic frame that looks like a movie film reel.

3 weeks ago I posted my first fitness journey post on Instagram and then 2 days ago I posted again. so I'm really happy how it went I think i lost 3 pounds in total 1 pound a week but I'm not so sure anymore I should go to the doctor and get weighed there because its more accurate. The one scale I have at home is not so accurate anymore. so I have to get a new scale for at home. but anyways I feel like I lost weight. just don't know exactly how much for sure. during Thanksgiving dinner (at 1pm) I used portion control so I can eat a little bit of everything. then for dessert (7pm) I used portion control again. I will be adding an exercise regimen in to the plan later down the road I think for now I'm just going to diet.

Thank you starflashbaby.  I lost 2 more pounds putting me back to my original 13 lost but I zero motivation this week to track and really count calroies.  I was sick yesterday, so I didn't even try except that I made sure to measure the Chex Mix I was eating and not just pour a huge amount out on the plate and eat.  I have a special occasion coming up this week too and I already know I will go over my calorie limit that day.  I can always lose it again.

I haven't had an appetite. I had to throw some food away because it went bad since I'm not eating. Some days I just have soup or pasta, or cheese and crackers. I did end up getting some Slim Fast but I have to clean the drawers out in the fridge and I've been lazy about it :P I don't have ice, and drinking them room temp is gross, so I haven't had any yet.

Artistically, I haven't been doing anything either. I think I got burnt out with my sculpture.

I've been hovering around the same weight for years.  I take two steps forward and then to steps back.  But finally after years I have dropped out of one weight range into another.  I'm embarrassed to say my exact weight, but I'm ten pounds down and finally in a new wt range.  Hooray.  Lets hope I can keep it off and loose more.
I was under 200lbs in college.  I'm an ugly monster now.

Oh, Gator, you're not an ugly monster.  You've done a wonderful job and lost the first ten pounds!  Now you can keep it up and do it again!  Take it one pound at a time and you'll be back where you want to be.  When my sister's friend complained that she had "only" lost one pound, my sister told her to go to Walmart and look at a 1 pound container of Crisco to remind herself that that is what she had lost.  It's a hard journey but you can do it!  The trick is not to let the setbacks be permanent.  But one thing I know is that only you can make the changes in your life to get you where you want to be.  We can't do it for you but we can cheer you on.
It's all up to you and if you want it you CAN do it!  :cheer:

Sometimes little changes can make a big difference.  For example, if you really like coke, drink water instead of coke with your dinner.  Start once a week and work up to every day.  I started doing that and now I only have coke as an occasional treat instead of every day.  Take little steps towards your goals.  If you try to do too much at once you'll get discouraged and that makes it harder.  Find ways to enjoy exercising if that's what you want to work on.  I make it a point to watch my Japanese cartoons only while I'm on the treadmill.  I can read the subtitles while I'm walking so if I make it a rule that I can only watch them while I'm exercising, it makes me want to exercise because I want to watch my cartoon!

Find what works for you and don't give up.  :woot:  You got this!
Title: Re: Let's help motivate each other to reach our goals

Gator, you're NOT an ugly monster  You should be very proud of yourself! I've been there too, when the scale finally dropped out of the 300s. It felt amazing and I cried! But I eventually gained it all back and added another 150 on top of it. Don't be like me! It's not worth it, it really isn't. I can barely get my socks on and I had to buy slip on shoes because there's no way I can tie laces or even do velcro.

But in the same vain it IS very difficult, especially if you can't change your living situation (it's much harder to break habits and develop new habits when we stay in the same familiar place that doesn't change along with you). Have you considered surgery? I'm going through with bariatric surgery. Probably sometime in the summer or fall. But they still require you to lose weight on your own AND you have to go on a liquid diet and shrink your liver before they cut you open. And you know what? It's not an "easy way out". Not at all. It still takes work.

I'm using Slim Fast again - I've lost 60lbs on Slim Fast twice. I haven't cut out soda, I limit myself to one a day (down from two) and drink water or coffee, sometimes tea before bed the rest of the time. Water is good for your heart too. It can help slow a racing heart, so if you are exercising and feel like your chest is gonna burst, down some water. Getting enough veggies and fruit can be a challenge, but you can always buy them frozen! I have a smoothie everyday out of bananas and berries with whatever milk I have. It's filling and very healthy. I also keep a mix of chopped onions and peppers in the freezer and add it to almost everything I cook. You can even freeze fresh spinach.

Sorry if this is coming off as lecture-y, it's not meant to :) Just sharing some of the things I'm doing.

Whatever you decide and however you go about it - you can do it! :cheer:

Yay! Go Ponyfan :cheer:

I decided to step on my scale and see what it said. After adjusting because it's 7lbs off, it said I lost 4lbs. That seems about right. I'll know for sure when I see my doc on the 27th.

I messed up last night though and ordered a pizza. I hate that I did it. We all have slip ups, I know, but I can't help but feel guilty and bad about it.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve checked in here, but I think I’ve made some small progress! I seem to consistently be weighing in at about 2-3 pounds lighter than when this thread started, so I feel confident saying that weight is officially gone! I’ve had a lot of bad slip up days with the holidays, but thankfully I don’t seem to gain…and even if I do it comes back off after a couple days.

I’ve been really lazy about tracking my daily calorie intake. I do need to get back in the habit of logging daily, even if I don’t want to see just how bad I did in a day

I saw my doctor yesterday and my at home scale was right, I have lost 4 lbs :) That's not bad for just substituting one or two meals a day with Slim Fast. I haven't been eating much because of sores in my mouth (which my doctor said is caused by a virus - she gave me medicine for it). I haven't ordered anymore pizza or fast food either.

I lost another pound.  I was surprised because I haven't been watching my calorie count like I should be lately.  I haven't exactly been eating everything in sight, but I haven't been paying attention to my portion sizes either.  I tried to monitor it more closely today though.

Does anyone here enjoy virtual races? I participate in them fairly frequently myself….the reason I ask is because I got maybe the most targeted ad I’ve ever gotten in my life on Instagram. It’s a My Little Pony virtual race! You get cutie mark pins along the way and a finishers medal at the end. Looks like there are two different challenges with two different sets of prizes. Thought I’d share it here too if anyone wants a pony themed incentive to get walking! :)

Well, now I don't know what is going on with my scale. Unless I have actually lost 20lbs it's way off. I tried to recalibrate it because I had to move it yesterday so I could mop the floor. Maybe I did it wrong or it needs new batteries.

The 27th I go to my doc to get weighed.

If it makes you feel better, I've gained 5 over the last 2 weeks because my sister was here with her kids (bringing the stress of her impeding divorce), my brother was here (leaving rehab early because he hurt his shoulder and needed it to be looked at), so we had 6 extra people and 2 extra dogs here which made it even harder to make time to exercise and all we did was play card games and eat snack foods.  So now that my sister, her kids and dogs are gone I might be able to get back on track.  My brother has an appointment tomorrow to get the results of his MRI so if he doesn't have to have surgery, he'll go home this week.  And my dad went to the doctor this week to get treatment options for his prostate cancer (it's genetic on his line so we knew it was coming and he's been watching for it to catch it early) and he just tested positive for Covid, so he thinks he picked it up at the hospital.  And then there's work stuff because we're still trying to make our stuff fit in a smaller space and they want to open up again next week.  I can't imagine why my life is stressful right now.

Just don't beat yourself up too much, Ponyfan.  You can do it.  :cheer:

I need a new scale at home too..
It went wakey when I moved it I put the new batteries in it but now its like off..
But I went to the Dr at the beginning of Jan and I was 301.6 from being 303.6 in Nov. Hmm I don't know why it took so long to lose 3 ibs but I did it. Question is am I still going down... it's 7something PM now. I'm Going to say I'm done eating for the night. I usually stop at 8pm but I can stop now.

Celebrate the little victories, too, you guys!  Each of us is working at our own rate and getting results so that's awesome!
If you have a setback, take it for what it is, a setback.  It is temporary and won't be permanent unless you let it be.

I've implemented "Active Anime Time" this week at work with a couple of my co-workers.  We turn on Haikyu (it's about a volleyball team and quite entertaining) in the gym and watch 1 episode while we exercise, stretch, or relax our minds (depending on what is needed) and there is no judgement.  Just an entertaining 22 minute cartoon and working out whatever we need to work out.  When we finish Haikyu (which is about 60 episodes so far on DVD) we will discuss if we want to continue with a new show or if it will just be me continuing.  I've already decided that this is a productive way to spend my lunch break and it frees up my evenings to do other things instead of exercise (unless I feel like doing more).

Thank you Black Curtains and Pokeyonekenobie. To my surprise I lost a pound last week.  Part of my problem is I've really been struggling with my health lately.  Some days I feel fine and other days it takes such an effort to just get out of bed that I don't have the energy to really focus on my portion sizes.  I'm not giving up though and will keep working on it.

Well I have been consistently weighing in at about 169 pounds for the last week or so, so I feel confident saying I have officially reached my goal of reaching 170 pounds! :frolic: I could probably still stand to lose a few more pounds, but for now I’m going to relax a little and enjoy my accomplishment of losing about 20 pounds. Took about a year, but this is the first time I’ve actually reached one of my weight loss goals, so I’m very proud!

I think in the meantime, I think my goal will be to walk 100 miles every month for the retro pony virtual race. I am on pace to hit that this month, so I think it should be a reasonable goal! :) Plus then I get one pin every month, so that should be fun!

Well done, everyone!  Keep up the good work.  :ohyeah:

Active Anime Time has been successful this week.  In fact, one of my co-workers wanted to call out yesterday because she just didn't want to come in but then she decided that she really wanted to watch the next episode so she made herself come in.  (I've told her that I'm helping her save up her personal leave so she can do something she really wants to do, like take an actual vacation instead of just a day here and there.  :P) One of my co-workers is using the time to stretch.  Even though there are only 3 of us participating right now, maybe we will get others to join us eventually.

Just remember that if it's not a digital scale you might need to calibrate it, which can cause big discrepancies.  At work there's a scale in the gym and it says I weigh almost 7 pounds more than my digital scale at home.  My mom used to put a 5lb bag of sugar or flour on her scale to make sure it was reading correctly and then she'd adjust it again after being weighed at the doctor's if it was off at that point.

I tested out my new scale at home for a few weeks now
Drum role!!!!
It works! I'm 289.6ibs I can't believe it I'm officially under 300ibs
I need to make a rewards program for myself for every 10ibs lost. I think I'll use a money jar. $20 goes into a jar for every 10ibs I think is fair
Back in 2017 I was 312ibs that was when I was like I have to stop and do something about my weight.
So In my fitnesspall app says im Down 14ibs I owe myself $20  :yippee:

I'm trying to finish my next batch of Pokemon coloring pages before Pokemon Day.  I got a late start on them so I don't know if I'll finish but I'm going to try.  I post them on my DeviantArt page so people can use them.  I'm working on the Sinnoh region Pokemon for this year.  So far I've managed a generation for each of the last 3 years so I'm trying to keep that up.  If I can get my act together one of these years I'd like to get ahead and just be caught up so I only have to worry about the most recent releases.

Ugh, I'm not doing very well at all. I bought a bunch of chocolate and chips. I got into this habit of having a snack before bed and at first it was something small like a few crackers and cheese but now it's like a whole bag of popcorn or half a bag of Doritos. Then I feel gross and guilty and it hurts my stomach. Blah.

I'm also breaking my one can of soda a day rule.

I decided to get serious about weight loss in late 2021, and I've dropped from 138 to 123. My target is 115.  I'm kind of frustrated though because it does not look like I lost a lot of belly fat. I've been doing sit-ups, jumping jacks, walking when it's warm enough and cutting back on certain foods.

Congrats you two :D I'm back on Slim Fast and eating once a day. I'm also back on one soda a day and all I have is Sprite, which is better than Dr. Pepper. I missed my monthly weigh in due to being sick so I don't know if I gained or lost (I probably gained).

How is the Slim fast going? I hope its going well!

I'm still 289.6 I went down to 284 but I ate cake mix plane and it shot back up... THAT's The last time I eat Cake mix I Hope!!!!

Anyways My second Goal is to find the Value for these Sports cards for my Sister-in-law I think I'm doing it correctly. I guess there is ungraded cards and graded cards and so many rules to follow as to what is mint and what makes a card Poor.... Huh I had no idea what I was getting into when I said "I'll DO IT FOR YOU!!!" at least it gives me something to do during the day. Instagram is no help to me what's so ever when it comes to cards & websites. I'm trying to find there value at non graded price and man is it me or are People who like sports totally different than people who like Ponies and anime?

My third Goal (I'm doing this in-between the 2nd goal) I'm working on Restoring my 4Speed I have him apart and the hair out now I just have to get brave and work with that apoxie Sculpt I MUST BE BRAVE or HE WILL HAVE NO EAR TIP!!! Maybe that will Work mentally.. I'll just have to pop that stuff open and dig in!

I think I worte about this already but can't remember what thread :what:

I'm drinking smoothies again, anti-inflammatory ones. This is the fourth day and I feel a lot better and have more energy. I usually do a banana, an avocado, frozen mixed berries, kale, almond butter, ground flax and turmeric powder, blended with oak milk. It sounds a little weird, but it tastes good.

I'm also getting the itch to start again on my customs. I really want to finish these two.

I've decided to try intermittent fasting. Yesterday, I had coffee, a smoothie and for dinner I had a tilapia filet and some green beans. So today I haven't eaten anything. I'm going to try to get through the night. My blood sugar must be good because I don't feel lightheaded and don't have hunger pangs. I'll definitely eat tomorrow, a smoothie for breakfast.

My dad is a huge believer in intermittent fasting, and I do think it works for him. He is by far the slimmest person in our family! :P I did it for a while when I was on the overnight shift and I also lost some weight then. If you can find a fasting schedule that works for you it’s a pretty good weight loss tool!

I’ve been doing an okay job of maintaining my weight. I weight in consistently at 170.something every day, but I was hoping to stay just a little under that. I guess I could put myself back on weight loss mode again in LoseIt so that can lose another 5 pounds or so? That way if I do gain a couple pounds from overeating I don’t feel as bad lol!

As far as my goal of walking 100 miles a month for the MLP virtual race I’ve stayed on track or that! I just got my first 3 pins in the mail today, and I’m set to hit the 400 mile mark this week, so I’m actually somewhat ahead of schedule. I’m glad though because is going to be harder to get out and walk now that it will be 90 - 100 degrees everyday….

I wish I knew about that virtual race a little sooner, like last year... I would have done it but you know, me and my mom were talking and I think I'll start my own walking goals and when I reach 50 miles I'll give myself $10 and every 10ibs lost I'll give myself $10 too. I'm actually excited to start doing this. I have a jar that can hold my money I wonder what I'll save up for??? I don't have a vehicle but I don't drive I need to learn how to drive better so let's think about vacation trips instead. I would say Alaska where my cousin is at. So I guess I have to start walking aye!!

Edit: I was rushing earlier so I couldn't say everything I wanted to say so here is the rest:

11 pounds in 1 month!
That's soooo Awesome of you!!  :cheer:

I'm shifting weight between 294.6 & 297.6 I have to be more mindful of what I eat - like less candy since it was just Easter. I eat once a day I have to get back to not eating snacks at night. Soda is a major one too. I drink 1 can a day and I drink water for the rest of the day. Sometimes it's diet soda sometimes its regular.

As for my pony projects I haven't got around to paint another coat on 4Speed but the hair is in the mailbox. Mom will bring it in when she comes home.

I still have to finish finding values for some sports cards for my sister in law.

That's awesome, Ponyfan! :cheer:

Tonight I actually ate solid food, the first time since Easter. I've been drinking smoothies, slim fast, orange juice, V8 and water. I was doing a lot around the house today so maybe it made me hungrier. I had crispy battered fish (Gorton's) and steamed green beans. It was weird to have to chew something  It was good though, just what I needed.

I'm frustrated with trying to lose weight.  It was going good for a bit but it's gotten weird.  Does anyone else gain a pound while they sleep?  I weigh myself before I go to bed (hours after eating anything) and when I weigh myself in the morning, I have GAINED a pound.  What the heck?  It's also slightly frustrating that my doctor is going to comment on the gains (if I can't get it off before my physical in September) even though I am still in a smaller size.  I hate that he's only judging my health on my weight, not on the fact that I'm still down 4 pants sizes.  I know that muscle is more condensed than fat, which is why I can be smaller and still weigh the same (or more) but it's all just very annoying.  :pullhair:

do you Have to go by what the doctor says or can you just go by what you feel is comfortable for you?
for me I will always be called Obese by my Doctor No Matter how well I'm doing with my weight or how many Pants sizes I go down. Until I reach 146IBS (Which By my standard is too skinny for me) he will call me Obese. So Today I'm 298 ibs if Id drop 150 ibs This year I'd still be Obese cause I didn't lose 152 Ibs (Heck I could be off too I probably should be 130IBS I need to check again)
Anyways in my weird way I'm trying to say You should listen to your doctor if you have a medical condition like diabetes (or anything that I can't think of right now but anything else like a rare condition or any other reason) but if your not medically sick I think it would be ok to ignore the fact that he / she comments on your weight in September....
But you know who your losing the weight for?... Yourself if that's good enough then ignore the docs comment.

Edit:
As for The weight one day up one day down
We fluctuate in weight all day long thats why its good to look at a scale once a week or every 2 weeks.  ^.^ Cheer up your doing Great!!!!!  :cheer:

I think I might gain overnight too. I tend to weigh myself a few hours after I’ve woken up because I was finding that if weighed myself exactly when I woke up I was coming in a pound or so heavier. Weird!

My old doctor used to pester me about my weight too. She retired and did finally give me credit for losing some weight, but there was one time she actually made me cry because the way she worded her concern was so harsh. :( It made me mad too because she wasn’t exactly slim! I thought she’d understand my struggle. All my blood work was always normal.

I seem to be stuck at around 168/167 pounds right now. My goal is just 165 but it’s still frustrating. I’ve been coming in significantly under my calorie budget most days so I’m not sure why nothing is coming off. Some days I’ll randomly come in really close to my goal  but the next day it’s right back on. I think I need to start going back to the gym.

You shouldn't weigh yourself so often, like Starflash said. Once a week is usually the norm. Otherwise, well, you get frustrated. It was always the plateau that bothered me the most. I'd drop 60lbs and then nothing for months. It's because your body goes into panic mode, even if you're still overweight, and holds onto every calorie. Once enough time goes by and your body realizes it's not going to die, you start losing again. I've never gotten past the plateau. I always gained back.

I had a slip up last night and ordered a pizza. I've been so good but I was really craving one. The worst part? It didn't taste as good as I thought it would. there was too much crust even though it's the same pizza I always ordered. That might be a good thing because it makes me not want to get another one. If I'm going to stuff myself with bread, cheese and grease there are things I can make myself that would taste much better. So maybe that was my last pizza. The other thing is because of my gastroparesis, I'm still full this morning and it makes me feel yucky.

I think I'll try and fast today.

I hope your feeling better Pokeyonekenobie

Minty_Magic your so close to your goal! Don't give up! you can do it!

BlackCurtains :cheer: We can get past the Plateau!

I gained a little water weight this week so I have no idea where that came from but its slowly going back down. I think its like 5ibs of water weight But I am still watching what I eat and I think I need to use the MyFitnessPal app more often. but I don't usually get over 1600 calories a day I'm under my calorie limit for the day and that's the reason why I'm plateauing all the time because My body is panicking and going into Hibernation mode which then does not burn off food.  I guess I really need to learn to eat better and more of better foods. that's my biggest obstacle right now. I can't be eating out. I have to find a way to eat healthy. Any ideas..... I don't eat fish... I can't see a Diet nutritionist because its way too much money and I don't' want to be diabetic in order for it to be free... Maybe I should look into What a Diabetic eats... they can eat all sorts of healthy stuff... there should be free stuff on the net for that... And if so I'll use that as my diet... just without the diabetes.

How is everyone doing?
I gained a few ibs I'm now 300 ibs  but I have an idea
I'm going to do stomach crunches & situps in the morning & then after when I'm awake & ready for the day I'm going to use my new peddle stationary bike, I don't know the type of exercise bike it is but Hopfully I'll stick with the plan and it becomes a new habit. It will be fun!
I'm going to start eating like I'm a diabetic 2 cause im pretty sure im getting close to being one..
And this will void it or  prolong it if i can help it. I'm going to start counting carbs which I need 45 in a meal × 2 and then 15 to 20 carbs in a snack x2 stop eating after 8pm. So let's see how that goes for a while.

Good job, BC!  Keep it up!

Good idea, Starflashbaby.  I hope it works for you!

I keep gaining no matter what I do/don't eat or how much more I exercise.  Seriously, I gain a pound from eating a very measured out serving of cereal--we're talking 150 calories--it's ridiculous and SO frustrating because it's not a fluctuation because it never goes back down.  It just goes up. That's why I've been weighing myself so much, to figure out if it's something specific that I'm eating or if it's just everything.  I may have to ask my doctor to test if I'm allergic to something in my food if I can't figure it out on my own and get things to change before my physical in September. It could also be just because I turned 40 and my body is "getting old"--which is a really lame excuse for my body not letting go of any weight, especially since I was losing weight really well right before I turned 40.  Shouldn't my metabolism slow down gradually instead of shutting off altogether from one day to the next?

So for now I'm just going to focus on exercising better.  I'm also going to add crunches to see if I can get my stomach to go flatter.  I figure if I aim for somewhere around 300/day (because once I get used to doing it they shouldn't take that long) for the next month, that will get the habit/base muscles formed and then I can try to up it from there if it seems to be working.

I gained 2 pounds this week although I think 1 is more accurate due to something else.  I overate spaghetti last and garlic bread last night.  I love spaghetti and it's so hard to eat a normal sized portion of it.

Wow I'm glad to hear everyone's still doing Great!!! :cheer: Keep it up everyone!!!

Thank you Pokeyonekenobie
do you take any medicine that might make you gain weight? I know that in Lithium, Weight gain was a side effect.
You could be allergic to something in the foods... that's a possibility... some food dies like blue 1 & Yellow 1 in foods can mess with emotions but I don't know how that would affect your body if your allergic to them??? that's something to look into as well... my nieces have a bad reaction to dies in food when they were younger... blue 1 would make them mad or yellow 1 hyper.. it was weird... I know your metabolism slows down when you get older but I don't think it shuts down... that's why we have to exercise a bit harder while eating healthier. 300 crunches a day?! I can only do 20 in the morning and 20 at night right now...

I'm not managing 300 crunches a day. :nope: My stomach hurts too much once I hit about a hundred.  And I haven't remembered to do them every day yet.  So maybe my goal is to eventually manage 300.

I'm not on any meds so I know that's not the issue.  It may just be that I need to change what I'm eating and focus more on proteins.  I have been tracking my food and it seems like days with more protein I actually do manage to lose a little weight.  I haven't ruled out an allergy but I am going to try and up my protein a bit and see if that helps anything.

300 crunches a day Pokeyonekenobie?! You’re crazy, I struggle with even doing like, 20! :P Even if you’re “only” getting 100 a day in that’s still a really good workout!

I’m still sort of stuck, but tentatively I may have lost one pound. I see last time I posted I was stuck between 168 and 167 pounds, but now I seem to swing between 167 and 166 depending on the day. I finally decided to cut my calorie budget in Lose it… it was clear it was too high if I wasn’t losing after about a month of always coming in at or under my goal. When I was in the mode for maintaining my weight I had started gaining, so their calculation on calorie budget clearly isn’t perfect.

Even though my weight loss is going slow, I’ve set some additional goals besides just cutting calories that I think will help. Since I have lost about 25 pounds from where I started, it makes sense these last few pounds may be harder to shed!

-Eat more protein. From what I’ve been reading balancing your macronutrients is also important for weight loss. In general, I can see I’m eating way more carbs and fat than I am protein dense foods, so I am going to start being mindful of that. I read that for weight loss you should aim to eat your body weight in protein grams per day!! I’m WAY below that, so right now my goal is to at least balance my macronutrients to be close to a 33/33/34% split each day
-Do more strength training. This one is somewhat counter intuitive since muscle mass can add weight, but my body fat % is so high that I know I need to start working on this. I’ve also heard that strength training is generally a better weight loss tool than cardio alone, so I’m optimistic that this will be beneficial to add to my workout routine.
-Drink more water. I got a smart water bottle that will track my water intake. I’ve struggled to hit my goal since I got it, so before that I was probably dehydrated more often than not!

On the upside I joined a new gym that is closer to m house, so I’ve been motivated to actually go close to every day! My old gym wasn’t that far, but the 10-15 minute ie was sill enough of a hindrance that I wasn’t going much at all. The new one is cheaper with all the same amenities to boot! :) They even have a couple of advantages over my old gym like being open 24 hours an having a movie room which is super fun!

Even though my weight loss is slow, I’m still feeling optimistic about it. The changes I’ve made I think are sustainable lifestyle changes I can actually keep up with long term. If nothing else I haven’t gained a significant amount of weight back over the last year, so that’s a plus!

I haven't ruled out an allergy but I am going to try and up my protein a bit and see if that helps anything.
don't do it till your stomach Hurts really bad... it really good that your working out... I'm not trying to tell you to do less... I'm just saying do what your body can handle when you start to feel the stretch do 5 or 10 more. Your doing a Fantastic Job  :cheer:!!!!
I missed todays Sit-ups too I don't do them everyday like I said I would I haven't got a chance to exercise on the the stationary bike yet....is House work Like cleaning Exercise Too??? I'm in the middle of a deep dusting... Next week comes the vacuuming, & Floor washing...

I read a little on macronutrients before... 33/33/34% which one is Proteins Carbs and fats... I'm guessing 34 is the proteins?? I'm at the beginning of eating like a Diabetic 2. I count Carbs instead of Calories or Macronutrients. Its a bit of a learning curb because when I don't have to count carbs like if its dinner that was home made I portion size and don't take seconds.
What is the difference in Strength training & Cardio I'm now confused for a second... I have 8ibs dumbbells' that I should be working out with as well... would that be strength training and My stationary bike Cardio?
I love the fact you have a smart water bottle where on earth did you get one. did you share that already... I thought someone was sharing something about a water bottle earlier in this form was that you? I have to look now...
Thats cool that you now have a new gym closer to where you live and its 24hrs & has a movie room!!! Yes you are making  sustainable lifestyle changes, Way to Gooo  :cheer:

Yeah, you should always do some strength training before cardio, because your muscles will release simple sugars first and that won't help you lose weight. You need to burn fat, not sugar. So using weights or machines for 45 minutes before you do cardio helps your body get ready to burn fat when you get on a bike or go for a walk or whatever. Also, in regards to bike riding, revolutions are more important than tension. You should be going as fast as you can without a lot of resistance - because you've already done the strength training. This is also for 45 minutes at least.

I learned this from a fitness coach when I joined the gym years ago and it's something I've never forgotten.

Also, drinking more water will help too. I bought a couple of these - 32oz water bottles (https://www.amazon.com/Pogo-BPA-Free-Plastic-Water-Bottle/dp/B00WH2NIOO/ref=sxin_14_ac_d_rm?ac_md=0-0-d2F0ZXIgYm90dGxl-ac_d_rm_rm_rm&cv_ct_cx=water%2Bbottle&dchild=1&keywords=water%2Bbottle&pd_rd_i=B00WH2NKRO&pd_rd_r=8554625d-b1b4-4ade-aa04-3bf720967aae&pd_rd_w=N6Bti&pd_rd_wg=0sW37&pf_rd_p=c41d1f6c-956c-4fe2-8019-1663b7e1dd23&pf_rd_r=WAQ7X8TEFEJG5S09XMCZ&qid=1632174628&sr=1-1-12d4272d-8adb-4121-8624-135149aa9081&th=1&psc=1) and love them. Oh wow! You really did some research haha! Funny…I don’t even remember posting that.  I actually don’t have a water bottle like that, so I may have gone with something different instead! I still think it’s a good idea to have bottles that hold a lot of water like those though, the less you have to refill, the easier it is to keep drinking! Here is the smart water bottle I got. It’s pricey, but I’ve found it to be worth it! It’ll even give you reminders to drink water if you’re falling behind on your goal! Plus I’m a sucker for things that light up. What can I say? :p

This is super helpful info, thank you for sharing it! I knew lifting weights was good for weight loss, but I never knew the “why” behind it. That makes a lot of sense! Also good to know you should do it before the cardio. That is what I have been doing just because I don’t like weight training as much and if I don’t do it before cardio, I won’t do it at all lol! Right now I average about 20-30 minutes with the weights, so slowly I will have to try and work up to that 45 minute mark.

Don't worry, Starflashbaby, I don't go past where my stomach starts to hurt.  That's what I meant when I said my stomach hurts too much to continue.

And yes, you do burn calories while house cleaning.  How many depends on what you're doing and how big the space is you're cleaning, but you do burn calories doing it!  You won't burn enough to replace an exercise regimen but every bit helps.  :)

Way to go Starflashbaby! :cheer: keep up the good work! Looks like the water bottle you looked is by the same company who made mine, so I could recommend that in good faith too.

Ponyfan, maintaining ipyournweight after you’ve lost it is still a big accomplishment, so that is still something to be proud of! :) Especially since you are having to work more food into your diet than you had gotten used to!

For me, I have magically hit my goal out of nowhere. After being stuck for about a month suddenly I was able to shed those last couple pounds - I have consistently weighed in at 164 or so for a week now, so I’m confident that is my new normal! It’s hard to say what the difference was since I tried a bunch of new things at once…..I have NOT been doing good with my protein goal, so that probably isn’t it. I’m thinking either taking in more water has been beneficial, or maybe it is the weight lifting! No matter what it was though I feel really good about where I’m at. From where I was last year at this time my clothes fit me better, I’m not getting winded just going up the stairs anymore, and I feel like I have more energy too.

I think my new goal is just going to be focused on balancing my macronutrients. I could lose some body fat too….but I’m hoping that with balancing out what I eat with continued weights that may just start to fall off on its own.

I've started a Couch to 5K program on the treadmill again.  I did it a couple of years ago and it seemed to help so I thought I'd try it again and see if I can try to run faster by the time I finish this time.

I get weighed on the 1st at my doctor's office. I've been drinking smoothies and not eating much. In fact, last Friday I was visiting my mom and she wanted to cook. We had turkey, corn and mashed potatoes and gravy. I ate a small portion and later my stomach was bothering me. I wonder if it's bad for your teeth to go days without chewing something? If I liked gum, I'd chew that.

I lost 2 pounds this week. :)  That puts me back to 19 total although I've gained a few back here and there.  I can't swallow pills unless I take them with food.  The medication I was taking is one that I only have to take at certain times and not everyday.

Have finally gotten past 123 pounds, now all I hafta do is not blow it. I find that if I only eat 1 or 2 small meals and nibble throughout the day weight loss is a little more consistent then skipping meals entirely. Have also gotten to 100 sit ups. In intervals mind you.

Almost a month ago, I gave up on losing weight and locked myself in at my current lbs by starting powerlifting. Since May, I have lost 7lbs, my clothes fit better, and I am an intermediate for my weight class and age. I am surprised, really, how strong I was at the start (was always athletic, but didn't partake in sports). Today, I sit here, sore, because I upped my deadlift by another five pounds (upped it 20lbs last week) and my tricep kickbacks are at 40lbs. I am happy with this and it motivates me to reaching for the intermediate in each lift.

Wow, that's really cool, cosmospanda :)

I've been eating more fruit because it's in season and so cheap right now. I know it's extra sugar, but I eat it early in the morning so it has a chance to burn off during the day. Right now my favorites are yellow nectarines, cantaloupe, raspberries and mango. So good! I'm still making veggie smoothies too.

I would like to make my own granola bars. I've looked at a few recipes and it's great because you can choose exactly what you want in them.

I'm literally having to hold myself back from ordering a pizza for dinner tonight. Everyone is doing Great :cheer:
So I decided I would start exercising on my stationary bike thingy when I got back from my 2 week vacation around the 4th of July. (We had celebrated my great aunts 90th birthday so it was a big family reunion) so I got back home Tuesday & I exercised on my bike for 20 min. I forgot to do stomach crunches in the morning. Turns out my exersise bike makes a lot of noise when I peddle so that's why it's $10 but I put it out in the garage and I put on head phones and I was fine ^.^ not sure about anyone else who had to hear it. Although I did ask my sister who was in the house and she said she heard nothing. So I think I'm good... I weight myself on that day and I was 296.8 ibs.
You know what I found out this week?! My granny weighs 113ibs I make up 2 of my granny's + 70ibs that just makes me sick.
Now I no longer want to be 200ibs I want to be 160 for sure and you know what that's still obese for me but it will be a comfortable weight I think. Depends on what I'm doing at that time. I now want to go horse back riding again, Thanks to BlackCurtains Post   . So it really depends on my future and my dedication of my weight loss goal. I think I'll work really hard on weight loss and then add horse back riding later.

For another goal I'm asking my aunt if she can teach me how to drive. I'm 35 and all the second cousins now went through drivers Ed & have a car. I'm not letting my nieces get there license before I do. It was such a big issue when I was growing up I'm putting my foot down. I'm getting my license now. Just a little more practice is all I need.  :)

Harmonie
I'm glad you posted here! We can help Be your support team and help brain storm with you on some goals/problems that may interfere with goals. Is there a diet you been wanting to try. Example there is the diabetic diet you don't have to be diabetic to do it. (I'm doing that with portion control) there is intermediate fasting. This is where you eat anything you want only at certain times of the day. Example would be you eat anything you want at noon & 6:00 when ever dinner is 6pm - 8pm then 9pm till noon the following next day you eat Lunch and repeat. There is the keto diet that's counting micronutrients calories it's a little complex but if you like fish & chicken nuts, & eggs this is the diet for you. But you have to cut all breads & starches that includes pizza bread & pasta
These are not the only diets out there obviously these are just the ones I learned about personally. I shouldn't promote diet but a life changing way of eating. Do you want to add exercise to your regimen. Hope to see you in the thread!

Nice work Starflashbaby! My exercise bike is noisy to….it’s a really good bike but OMG it’s obnoxious! It’s so loud that I can’t even watch TV while riding it, which makes me lose my motivation to do it! :P Good luck on the driving too! I was one of the last in my friend group to get my drivers license, driving was really slow Cary to m at the time! Now that I’ve been doing it for a few years though it’s not nearly as stressful.

I lost some more weight when I got Covid a few weeks back. I thought it would just be a temporary fluke, but IDK it sms to be staying off, so thats a win I guess! When I weigh in now my BMI seems to be hovering in the upper -normal range, so I’m happy about that.

My goal of taking in more protein has been tricky. I have gotten better about it! I’ve had a couple days where 30% of my food intake is protein based, but more often than not I’m in the 18-20% range. I’ve noticed though that Lose It tracks the macronutrients weird. Even though I have eaten more grams of protein than say, fat it still shows my fat % as higher than the protein. I can’t really figure that one out. It’s also not the perfect tracking tool because not every food in their database has the macro info, so I’m trying to give myself a little leeway with this goal!

I'm going to ask my parents for an upright bike for my birthday :) I've had one on my Amazon wish list for a while and the price keeps going down but it's still over $200.

I can't wear two pairs of shorts anymore because they keep falling off  I also need to buy new underwear because what I have is way too big on me now, but at least they still stay up. My shirts don't seem to fit any different though. I have a big belly and I'm going to guess that will be the hardest to take off. I know I've lost weight in my thighs because I have some loose skin.

Had a few aggravating days this month where I climbed back up to 126, and it was too hot to work out. But I've dropped to 120 pounds and the last few days have been just below 100 degrees so I could work out a little and walk in the evenings.

I lost weight when I had Covid, too, but I thought it might have been because I was finally getting to sleep as much as my body needed to since I didn't have to go anywhere.

I am trying to give away G3 Ponies so I can clear that part of my closet out. (I did a post if you want to know.)

I've been... not good. I'm an emotional eater and this stuff with my dad is making me crave things. I bought ice cream for the first time in months, though I didn't get half gallons, I got Klondike bars and M&M cookie sandwiches. I've also been eating a lot of pasta recently, which is a comfort food for me. I'm still drinking my smoothies. I was going to the mailbox everyday but I slacked on that too. I went on Monday but didn't go yesterday.

Yesterday for dinner I made roast veggies; yellow and red potatoes, cabbage, carrots and onions, but I overate and was up with my stomach. Today I'm going to my parent's house and we'll probably get fast food.

I haven't weighed myself. I know I gained some back with all the pasta I've been eating. I know it's bad for me, but like I said before, it's a comfort food. I bought groceries yesterday and got more pasta...

I've been trying to get some stuff done to sell at a craft sale next month.  I am doing the couch to 5k thing on my treadmill again and it's going okay but I hate that I suck so much at running.  But then, if I was actually any good at it or enjoyed it, I would have done it regularly growing up and wouldn't have to try to like it now.  I wish our bodies would learn to exercise while we're doing the things we actually enjoy instead of punishing some of us for not being sporty or outdoor types.  Why can't reading about running through Mordor count as exercise?

I've been needing to clean off my desk for a long time.  I would try, but quickly got overwhelmed because of how much stuff was on it.  It was organized chaos though because I had certain places for important stuff, so I knew where it was.  Yesterday my mom took almost everything off my desk and put it in a box so I can sort it out, file and throw away/shred stuff I don't need.  My desk looks a lot better already, but I got so used to it being disorganized that it's taking some getting used to.

Hopefully this will give me the motivation I need to organize the rest of my office space.

Hi Everyone!
its been a long time since I posted last. I finally finished Harley Quinn Custom as a goal and as for driving as a goal well I haven't started yet  however, I have to read the Motorists' Handbook first which I'm half way through and I have this app called the Wisconsin DMV Driver Practice Test which quizzes me on the Handbook. Its very random questions and its not the same questions every time I open the app and it tells me what questions I got wrong at the end of each quiz.

As for my weight goal I started out being 320 when I first decided to lose weight that was a couple of years ago and I could never go past 290. But today is a day to celebrate! not with food but a pony or extra cash! I'm finally 287.6 pounds!  ^.^

Ponyfan that reminds me I have to organize the gest room All of my baits and sales items are in it along with some books that need to be put away. P.S Congrats on losing 26 pounds

Pokeyonekenobie Are you reading Lord of the Rings?  ^.^

BlackCurtains hmmm Pasta....  :yummy:

Leave a Whisper I know how you feel my stationary Bike is out in the garage and it was hot and sticky outside so the garage got hot and sticky. I like to exercise but not feel gross at the same time... in the dead of winter I could always put on a warm jacket or sweater I guess...

Minty Magic Thank you!

Good job, Starflashbaby!    Getting over a plateau like that is hard.

I'm not currently reading LOTR but I've read articles that say thinking about exercise [like doing crunches] is supposed to give you the same effects (a mind over matter kind of deal) but if that's the case, why doesn't reading about running give me more shapely leg muscles and better ability to breathe while running?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here too, but wow! You all are doing great! :)

Ponyfan, congrats on losing nearly 30 pounds in a year! That is no small feat!

Starflashbaby, congrats on making it over the 290 hurdle!! I know once I got past my weight I was stuck at I found it much more inspiring to lose the rest, hopefully the same will happen for you too!

As for me Ive been able to keep my weight off, and also lost a few pounds randomly along the way! I’m now the lightest Ive been in over 5 years and I feel so good! Although I don’t necessarily feel like I look that different, There are a few changes Ive noticed over the summer. For one, a lot of my tank tops that didn’t fit me well last year look good on me again this year. I don’t get nearly as winded walking around or going up stairs, my strength is improving a little, and finally, my shirts don’t ride up over my stomach when I lay down anymore! They are all small changes, but they have boosted my confidence.

I’ve been bad about going to the gym this last month, I took a little break. I’m trying to get back into it though! Working up the motivation to go is tough, but I always do feel great once I, done working out!

Thank you everyone.  :)  I might have hit the plateau though because I've stayed at the same weight for a few weeks.

I'm still working on cleaning up my desk and office area and getting rid of things that I don't need.

This was yesterday; I bought some new underwear in a smaller size - and they fit! :cheer: Next on my list is new shorts because mine keep falling down. I have plenty of shirts in smaller sizes, so I don't need to worry about that. I also noticed some loose skin appearing on my arms. I have some on my thighs too.

I guess, even though I've been eating pasta and cheese a lot, I'm still losing weight? I was sure I gained some back. I see my doctor the 28th and I'll get weighed then. My scale is all messed up from being moved too many times. I try to calibrate it but it says something different each time I get on it.

With mom's help, I'm making soild progress on sorting out the stuff that was on my desk.  I'm currently going through old markers, highlighters and pens and seeing if they still work.

I might gain weight this week.  The asthma dr put me on steroids for 10 days.

Thank you Everyone & congratulations for doing so well yourselves!!! :cheer:

Pokeyonekenobie & I totally understand now, even if we could do that it wouldn't work for me, because I don’t read many books

Minty_Magic yeah I haven't been exercising on my bike during the summer much  but I've been dieting mostly. I should exercise though to build muscle & strength. Once I get a regime down I'll start using Performance inspired based products.

BlackCurtains that's awesome that you went down in size!! My pants are starting to fall off from me right now and my shirts, I like a little bigger clothes on me anyways, but they are huge on me now! (Note I wear my clothes 2 or 1 size bigger than I actually am if I'm skin tight at 2x then I'll wear a 3x or 4x)( I just don't do skin tight or skinny jeans or pants) in shirts I fall between a 3x or 4x. Pants I like it snug on the top but flowy around my shoe/leg area (boot cut jeans).

Ponyfan I love to organize things! I haven't a clue why yet sometimes I leave things unorganized but they are easy to organize if I need to organize them.  :| maybe I have a bit of OCD...

I looked at my fitnesspall app and it said I was 312 pounds and it took from last September to this September to lose 24 pounds. This time I'm keeping it off!!!! This is my lowest weight in 6 years since 2017.

Edit I must have been rushing through this last part it made no sense. .. I ment a long time ago I started out at 312 on my fitnesspall app that was in 2017 (when I first started trying to lose weight) and I could never get past 300 for 5 years (gosh that's a long Plateau) so now I'm finally down to to 297.6 which is 24pounds with in a years time on a new diet that actually works  ^.^ from Sep 2021 to Sep 2022. I'm also greatful for this thread cause it really shows that it helps motivate me. What about you guys I think its working.  ^.^
I hope that makes better sense to ya

How is everyone doing?

I've not been doing well at all. I stopped drinking my smoothies. I've been eating a lot of pasta and potatoes and bread... all the things I shouldn't eat. It's all comfort food. There has been so much going on and I'm under a load of stress.

I missed my previous Dr. appointment. I will see her next Monday instead. I really wonder how much I weigh.

In the last few days, when I've eaten the most (just stuffing myself before bed) I feel awful. So I'm going to start my smoothies again. There are some things I want to make that are bad for me, I already bought the ingredients. I'll try not to eat so much so late though.

I've been eating a lot more, but not healthy stuff.  I think it's stress from dealing with work stuff. Long story short, I'm being gaslit by a male co-worker who wears too much cologne.  He washes it off before management can smell him so since I "have a problem" with this co-worker, I'm basically being sent to my office during the 4 hours that he's at work so I can't leave to get half of my work done because he's out there, pretending that he's innocent even though all of my other co-workers have smelled him and commented on it.  But because the stink gives me migraines, I'm being "sent to my room."  I'm also trying to do Nanowrimo again plus reorganize my craft stuff so I can get things done for a Spring sale that may or may not happen and it started snowing this morning.  I hate the snow.  It's fine on a mountain, not on the roads I have to drive.

I'm trying to walk on the treadmill but with the weather wreaking havoc on my knees I can't really run right now.

And the spoiled part-timers are complaining about having to do their jobs.  Again.  Because the solution the I suggested isn't good enough because it doesn't involve me doing everything for them.  Again.  I hate people.

My weight's fluctuating a bit, but I'm staying within 1 or 2 pounds each whether that's losing or gaining.

Sometimes I go on a bit of an eating spree and seem to want everything in sight, even if I I shouldn't eat that much. For example. I just ate 3 slices of pizza even though I should have stopped at 2.

I need to get back to trying to be more active. I've lost my motivation for trying to get 250 + steps on my Fitbit every hour from 9 AM to 5 PM every day.  Before I would try to get most of them at least 5 days a week.  I usually picked a weekend day to just relax and not worry about getting them.  Lately I find myself taking my Fitbit off for extended periods and not worrying much about putting it back on.

I'm not even going to worry about what I'm eating on Thanksgiving. It's going to be a cheat day.

I’ve been struggling to find the motivation to be active too Ponyfan. I haven’t been to the gym in months. I seem to at least be maintaining my weight, but my body fat % seems to be creeping up, so Im worried I’m losing some muscle. Im going to try and do some light strength exercises at home to try and not lose the progress I’ve made so far.

I also plan on eating as much as I want on Thanksgiving! :) I think it’s good to allow yourself to just relax on holidays and special occasions! One day of over eating here and there won’t break you.

I was weighed at my doctors, I weigh one pound less than I did three months ago. So all the weight I lost, I gained back. I guess it's better than weighing more.

I've been so stressed with everything going on I'm still eating mostly comfort foods. I did get fresh veggies and fruit for my smoothies but I need to clean and prepare them still. This is a bad time of year for me, because the colder weather makes me want potatoes and pasta and cheesy stuff. I also want to bake some cookies for my mom and it will probably prompt me to make some for myself while I have everything out, you know? I've been meaning to make espresso cookies for a while for myself. Sooo... I have to be careful now. I definitely don't want to gain anymore. I was having success doing intermediate fasting, I'll try that again.

My mom moved my weekly shot to today because she thought the drs office was going to be closed over holiday weekend. According to the scales I gained a pound since Sat but I'm really not surprised since I ate a little bit of candy last night.

I've had fast food all day today too.  There's always next week.

Getting motivated is hard this year... I've been busy with family needs instead of my own needs lately. I just haven't had time to think about what I'm eating, I just eat when I can ya know. And sometimes it's not the healthiest of food. I was down to 285 ibs but now I'm 295... I'm greatful it's under 299 though.
As for my other goal, I want to continue restoration on Shady Brazil pony but I think I might of messed up not too. Sure.... I just have to work with her.

I've just ordered another pizza from Domino's. I have ordered a pizza every week this month. I am supposed to limit myself to one a month. I am not doing good with that rule at all. Plus, I am still making and eating things I shouldn't be. Too much stress and the cold weather make me want to eat all the bad stuff.
Title: Re: Let's help motivate each other to reach our goals

I totally get it.

I haven't been good about walking on the treadmill lately and I've been stress eating.  Long story short, my brother moved back home and convinced my parents to let his girlfriend move in as well so I had to give up the space that I was keeping extra stuff in AND the only space I had to do resin pouring in order to accommodate her.  So I won't be able to do that for the foreseeable future.  And because my brother is using the room where the treadmill is, I don't know when I'll be able to use that again, either.  He's supposed to start a new job tomorrow but given his history, he'll quit after about a month for some stupid reason that really boils down to he spent his money on drugs, got high and missed too many shifts so they fired him.

And in the meantime I'm supposed to clean up after his stupid girlfriend because she's a "guest."  She's not my guest.  And she's a downright slob.  I am not the live-in maid!

So I've been doing a lot of stress eating since I can't use the treadmill to exercise instead and I'm limited on what I can do artistically (especially since I have even less space to work in now) so I've played more video games lately than I usually do.

i'm new to this thread so i'm still getting caught up. does anyone have any advice on losing weight without focusing too much on each individual pound and calorie? in the past when i've tried dieting it was hard for me to not get obsessive about it and it led to me obsessing over calories too much. i really just want to focus on feeling better about myself.

being in the house so much over the past few years i feel like i've really let myself go. i haven't been exercising, my diet hasn't been great, and i haven't even been getting proper haircuts. this year i'm turning 40 and i really need to start taking my health seriously. i want to look better but i also want to feel better.

The best thing is to weigh yourself weekly, or even monthly, instead of everyday. I don't think counting calories is a thing people do anymore, is it? I mean, you could eat 200 calories in veggies or 200 calories in a cookie, but the veggies are clearly better for you, you know. But that doesn't mean you can't treat yourself either. Have a cheat day each week where you can eat whatever you want and not feel bad about it.

I would suggest slowly changing your diet to start. Add more veggies and more variety of them. Like instead of iceberg lettuce try baby butter or instead of a beefsteak tomato try tomatoes on the vine. Be careful with fruit since it can have a lot of sugar. One thing the physical trainer told me was that if you have a choice between low fat or low sugar, go with the low sugar. Lentils and beans are great and good for you, and you can do all kinds of things with them. Add turmeric, ground flax seed and raw honey in things. Those are all very healthy and make you feel better. Bonus if you get local honey, it will help with allergies.

Drink a lot of water. Like, drink what you think you should and then drink some more. I recommend Polar Seltzer if you miss fizzy drinks. It's 0 everything and the taste is very refreshing. I like the raspberry lemonade.

Smoothies are a great way to add different veggies and fruits into your diet.

My therapist has helped me a lot to understand my relationship with food. Try to figure why you eat what you eat. Are you a bored eater? Emotional? Stress? Do you just really love cheese? Get to the bottom of it and adjust.

A great tip for exercising from that same physical trainer. Life weights first. Doing that will burn off the excess simple sugars you have. Do about 45 minutes of weights. Then you can do cardio and it will burn fat instead of burning the sugars, because those are gone from your system. You should do about 45 minutes of cardio too.

Welcome, Beth.

What worked for me was focusing more on portion/serving sizes and trying to replace high calorie/fattening foods with versions that have less.  I also started leaving a little food on my plate at each meal while I was adjusting to eating less.  I have a cheat day once a week where I don't have to worry about what I'm eating.  Nothing is forbidden on my diet, it's more about watching your portions.  So inside of eating an entire large bags of chips, if I'm being good I count out 1 or 2 servings and eat that.

I do take a daily pill and weekly shot to help with weight loss, but I have still have to work at it.

I have to admit that I haven't been watching what I eat as closely as I should have been and have gained a little weight back. :(

Welcome to the thread Beth!!

BC has already given a TON of super helpful advice, I don’t think I can expand on it! I’ll echo that lifting weights has been hugely beneficial for me before cardio. I never really saw results until I started doing that. Even if you don’t do the full 45 minutes working your muscles will burn actual fat rather than just making you lose weight. Since my scale measure my body fat % I can actually see the difference weights make! Replacing some meals with veggie/plant based foods has also been helpful for me. Veggies are actually much more filling than I ever thought and they keep me from being hungry again in just a few hours!

I do count calories and find it largely beneficial, but I understand that is not a healthy thing to do for everyone! For me I just genuinely have no clue how much I’m eating unless I weight out and portion my food! I can scarf down 3k calories a day easy if I don’t keep myself accountable

I’ve been slacking through the holiday season, but I’m trying not to beat myself up about it. I have been busy with other stuff, and this is the time of year to indulge in goodies! I don’t have as much as a sweet tooth as I used to, so I haven’t eaten quite as many sugary foods as I usually do. Even though I’ve had a lot of over budget days and haven’t been going to the gym I’ve really only gained about 2 pounds in the past two or three months, so I’m calling that a win!! I’ve lost some muscle but eh, I can work on that again once it’s warmer and I’m motivated to get to the gym again.

I think my new year goal is to lose another 10 pounds. I’m fairly happy with my weight, but I’m still at the very top end of a healthy BMI, so I’d like to shave off just a little more. :)

Another tip for cutting back on what you eat:  If you're one of those people that feels guilty for leaving food on your plate, use a smaller plate.  Then you won't put as much on it in the first place.

I need to start adding weight lifting into my workouts.  I think that will be my goal this year.  :)
Title: Re: Let's help motivate each other to reach our goals

swapping a larger lunch and/or dinner with black beans has worked for me in the past. they're filling, cheap and it's easy to make large batches. beans are really the only diet food that ever worked for me. but it's hard to swap out meals for myself though when i have to make one meal for my husband and something different for myself. he's usually happy to diet with me but he can't really eat a lot of beans since it upsets his stomach. :( i need to be more disciplined in my eating.

we cut out soda, fruit juice and energy drinks a few years back. my husband lost weight but i didn't. my weight hasn't been what i want since i was a teenager. though back then i always thought i needed to lose weight back then because i had a lot of body image issues. i gained weight in college but then it stopped and my weight was pretty stable for years. i didn't really gain weight again until the last few years. being stuck in the house felt like a license to stop caring. also i'm pretty bad about stress eating. carbs are definitely an issue for me.

i definitely feel guilty for wasting food. using a smaller plate does help there. i typically eat smaller portions. i'm a really slow eater. but mindless, bored eating is a problem. or just eating while working, watching tv, browsing internet. there are bad habits i've picked up from having to eat lunch at the office for years. now i work from home and there's really no excuse for me to keep the bad habits.

i really have no excuse not to exercise more though. we have a treadmill and i could walk around the neighborhood. really i just hate working out. even though i feel so much better when i do. i just don't have as much energy lately. also having a job that ties me to my desk even when i'm working at home isn't great. i should walk around more when i'm on calls.

i think the weights would help. i know i'm out of shape. sometimes even cooking tasks like grating cheese hurts my arms. building up overall strength is something i definitely need.

Energy levels can be caused by a lot of things, but if you aren't adverse to taking supplements I recommend a vitamin B complex, red ginseng and vitamin D. The vit D will help your mood too. I have chromic fatigue syndrome and am tired all the time. I find the B complex and ginseng to really help.

I'd also like to welcome Beth to this Topic!
We are happy to have you!
What I recommend is getting a smaller plate and learn how to portion size and no doubles... or just be mindful of what your eating. That's why I recommend myfitnesspal app not to count calories but to see what it is your eating in a day and know what you want to cut out. Have a cheat day... but I save those cheat days for holidays cause there are a lot of holidays.id also suggest weighing yourself every 1- 2 weeks not every day. You'll see more progress that way.
I'd like to inform you Beth if you have any other goals, your more than welcome to share them here to get support for them as well.

As for me I am 290 now Yay!
I want very active on the mlparena this last month Dec but im back my grandpa was very ill since the 4th of Dec and he passed away on the 29th. So I was taking care of my family, I was more sick to my stomach cause of nerves and I had one plate full of food every day so I'm only eating once. Even during Christmas I had 2 plates but they were smaller plates. I stayed the same. So I think I eat something before I go to bed too so I will stop doing that now. Like I had ice cream last night and the night before and I was like what am I doing..... so that's a problem...
Or maybe during Dec I was eating too little so I put my body in hibernation mode again. Some odd reason I didn't lose the weight like I thought I should of.

thanks everyone :) i've been walking on the treadmill some. and watching what i eat a little more. we mostly cook so we'll be doing a lot more fish and salads. less pasta and sandwiches. i did somewhat reluctantly download myfitnesspal again. it does help me keep track of food and exercise. i have an apple watch and that also helps me track how active i am. i'm also doing more stretching. though the additional tummy fat doesn't help that :(

@Starflashbaby i'm sorry about your grandfather  i've read that if you're eating way less than normal your body tries to hold on to whatever weight you have and goes into a starvation mode. it's a holdover from when food would be scarce for periods of times. but it can make it harder to lose weight.

right now my only other goal is kind of on hold until the market for tech jobs improves :( i might do more training soon but for now i just want to focus on getting healthier.

My brother kicked his girlfriend out.  He told her if she went to 30 days of rehab he'd let her move back in and my parents told him flat out that they were never letting any of his girlfriends move in again.  I think they realized how unfair it was to me when it took me more than 3 hours to clean and disinfect the bathroom after she left.  (I think I mentioned she was a slob.)

So now I have my resin space back (yay!) and I can start to get back to my normal stuff.  My brother is still using the room with the treadmill but I don't feel weird about using it while he's at work.  So on days he doesn't work I might not be able to use it but I can do other things to exercise instead, like lift the little dumbbells that I have (they're only 5 lbs., but light weight with lots of reps is a good workout).

The next big project is working on Pokemon coloring pages so I can have the next batch done by Pokemon Day in February.  I think I'll try to get my taxes done this weekend so I can focus on other things and not have to worry about that anymore this year.

Starting tomorrow I'm back on my smoothies. I've got groceries coming bright and early with lots of fresh veggies and fruits. I've been back to not eating anything until later in the day and then making too much of something and eating it too fast. This is not good for my gastroparesis. I also bought some nutritious cereals and some yogurt. I can have a smoothie in the morning, cereal in the afternoon and if I need a snack, I've got the yogurt, homemade popcorn or instant oatmeal.

It's almost a week and I've been sticking to my "diet" (I do not like that word). I feel more alert and in a better mood.

I managed to lose the few extra pounds I gained back during the holidays! :) I haven’t started officially trying to lose weight again…I think I’m going to wait until it’s warmer since I usually have less of an appetite during the warmer months anyway!

After an emotional moment with a quart of ice cream, I bought a bunch of fresh veggies and fruits for smoothies. I was on a whole grain cereal kick for a while too.

:bump:

I've been doing really bad. My last attempt to get back on healthy foods and smoothies didn't go as planned since my dad passed away and I went into a depression filled with pizza.

Seriously, I need to stop. My mom was watching 600lbs Life when I was there yesterday and I don't want to end up like that. The way things are going though things have to change or that WILL be me. I don't think I've crossed 500lbs yet, but I'm definitely closer than ever before.

Today I bought drinks. Dr. Pepper, which I'm not giving up but I need to slow my intake of it. I think I'll start to limit it again to two a day. The rest was sparkling water and coffee. The sparkling water has 0 everything, so it's fine.

Tomorrow I want to clean out the fridge and then get veggies and fruits and stuff for smoothies and get back on that. I have to remember to make a smoothie right when I get up after I feed Aster. If I have a regular eating schedule it helps me lose weight. When I get back into that groove, I'll go back to intermittent fasting because that was doing me a lot of good last time.

I bought my upright exercise bike but I still need to put it together. That's my plan for the weekend.

And most importantly - MUCH LESS PIZZA. I am going to have ONE a month starting May. ONE.

You can do it BC! :cheer:

I've been bad, too.  I haven't been using the treadmill regularly since my brother moved home last November. Mostly because it's in the bathroom downstairs (our downstairs bathroom is weird), which he uses, and I don't want to take it over (even if it is only for half an hour at a time).  So I just need to make myself use it when he's out door dashing because there's no reason not to use it when he's not home other than I never know what kind of mess is going to be in there and sometimes it stinks too much to use the treadmill.  I have to breathe that air, after all.  :X

Thanks for bumping the thread BC.  I've been feeling really bad lately. My dr ran some tests but didn't find anything too worrisome or he would have called me in.

I've felt bad most of the weekend. :( I was so lightheaded earlier that  I felt a bit dizzy just walking down the steps of the deck after I hung towels there to dry.  Later my head felt like it was spinning.

I need start watching what I'm eating more. I've gained a few pounds back, but still well below where I started before I starting taking the slim shots.

Good timing bumping this back up! I always get more motivated in the warmer weather, so I’m officially going to try and lose another 15ish pounds. I’m pretty happy with my current weight and how I look, so I’m taking it real slow. According to LoseIt I might hit my goal in November. It’s been a very slow process to lose the weight so far, but I am keeping it off, so I’ll continue to go slow!

I really need to schedule a DRs appointment soon. I’m overdue for my yearly and I do have some concerns I need to discuss. I’m dragging my feet because I need blood work done and I have no idea how or if it’s covered under my current insurance. I need to call up and ask…

Man, I thought I'd look at Hungry Root just to see what it cost and what kinds of things you could get. They give you a quiz to take about foods you like to eat and what your preferences are. I took the quiz and it picked a plan for me and even after I adjusted it, it was still $96 per week. That's $384 per month! So I checked out Nutrisystem, which my mom was on a long time ago (like the 80s/90s). It's even more expensive and the food weren't as nice as Hungry Root, but they do have a side plan that's nothing but smoothies, which I thought was nice. But I can't afford that at all.
Title: Re: Let's help motivate each other to reach our goals
Post by: Minty_Magic on May 06, 2023, 10:26:56 PM
Oh, that’s a bummer about Hungry Root’s prices BC! I used them for a while, but I don’t think I was paying quite that much. I want to say I was paying $70 per week? They must have upped their prices with inflation. The upside to their plans is you can skip as many weeks as you want with no penalty! Or…at least that’s how it was when I was with them. I often only ordered every other week because they did send a LOT of food in my box!

I way over indulged today. I normally wouldn’t feel bad about one day, but when I stepped on the scale today (before going overboard) I had gained a couple pounds. I must have underestimated how many calories were in last weeks lunch I prepped. I thought I was trying within goal, but I guess not. Oh well, next week I am going to try and switch back to smoothies for lunch. As the weather gets hotter food during the day just doesn’t sound as good.

I also really need to get back to the gym. I’ve been making a lot of excuses to avoid it.

It was price more than anything for me. The quality of the food was really good and I thought they had a really good variety of recipes each week. They also packed the food well, I never had issues with the food being warm even here in AZ. The thing that finally got to me though was they send you full size groceries, but not a lot of fresh foods. So I’d have TONS of left over buns, bread, and other shelf stable stuff with nothing to supplement them with. I ended feeling like I was spending even more money than necessary by going to the store to buy some deli meats or whatever to make something with that bread. Ultimately I feel like Hungry Root was a good starting point for me to learn how to cook healthy, but now that I have a pretty good idea of how to do that, it’s cheaper for me to just buy ingredients in bulk and meal prep.

One of my neighbors complimented my weight loss today! He said he always sees me out walking and it’s really paying off. :) I don’t see him around all that often, so I was surprised he knew I’ve been trying to lose.

Thanks! Yeah, I like cooking and can follow recipes and stuff, so I think I'll pass on any meal prep deliveries for now.

I looked on a couple of recipe sites and printed out some healthy alternatives to some of my comfort foods plus healthy stuff that sounded good. I've been doing well with my smoothies and everything so far. I don't feel like I've lost any weight yet, but I don't think I've gained any either. I should buy a new scale.

I went on a 1 mile "run" with my niblings last night.  They are fast.  I am not.  They were able to go the whole time.  I couldn't.  And I warned them that I was slow and not good at running so my 12 yr old nephew stopped a few times to wait for me.     But at least they're willing to go on "runs" with me, even though I suck at it.  Maybe by the end of the summer I'll be able to manage without stopping even if I'm still not as fast as they are.

But near the end of the run I felt like I was trying to breathe through a straw.  I think I have exercise-induced asthma because it cleared up after a few minutes of resting.  I'm going to ask my dr about it at my next physical.

I got my blood work done finally and everything came back really good, so I’m feeling happy about my progress so far! :) my doctor even went so far as to call my current weight and results “perfect” for my age! In some regards though that has slowed my drive a little haha!

I’ve probably gained a few pounds since then though. I went on vacation and ate and drank way more than usual. I’m a little afraid to weigh myself, but eh, it was vacation. I wanted to have fun! I figure I’ve lost about 40 pounds over the last two years, so what’s wrong with needing to lose a few extra I gained during that time?

Wow, good job!

I'm sticking to my diet and I'm feeling a little better. I think all the veggies are doing their thing. I've cut out beef again. I only had it like twice since I reintroduced meat back into my diet. I'm sticking with chicken, turkey and certain fish. I'm getting enough iron from the green veggies so I don't have to take it as a supplement again (those pills taste so bad).

I've been drinking mostly water, and a lot of it. Still have the very occasional Dr. Pepper but it's not every day. I am starting to drink coffee again, but coffee is good for you, so that's okay.

I still have not put my bike together. I want to buy a hex set for my drill so I don't have to do it manually. With my back and legs so bad, the less time I spend bent over the better.

I'm seeing my doc on Tuesday and I'll get weighed. I'm curious to see if I've lost anything.

Sorry for being absent for so long, I only gained 5ibs from 290 I'm kind of in a limbo at 295 because you see the problem right now is that I take 2 meds and the side affect make me not hungry... So by the time I'm hungry its 5pm when I have my dinner and another small meal again at 9 or 10 pm and a small snack at 1pm.... So I came up with a conclusion to stop this (I have to buy some Protein Bars) when I was losing weight I was eating a protein bar in the after noon and then eating something very small at 3pm meal at 7pm and then my Protein Bar again at 8pm then quite eating for the day... This would also be a form of Intermittent fasting stop eating at 8pm and start eating at 12pm skipping breakfast but I would set my clock to get up at 10 which I'm getting better at doing now. I want to come up with a reason why I want to lose the weight too to help me inspire me so... I have a list and I think just by typing it out would help me out greatly!
1. Its for me
2. I want to wear Municipal Clothing
3. I want to learn to ride horses (Even if I don't own one in the future)
4. I wouldn't feel Uncomfortable in a plane.
5. I want to Hike my grandfathers land old that he donated in Dillon Montana with my Cousin Gina! Bucket list....
That Inspires me to be a lot better!

:cheer: Everyone is Doing Great Work!!!

BC, That's awesome that your cooking at home and not doing the meal prep deliveries! I need to start cooking at home. My mom cooks still... I need to learn her Recipes while i still can.

Minty_Magic, Wow How awesome to get a compliment from your neighbor then a compliment from your doctor! yeah you deserve a vacation. Will you still be hitting your Goal in November? What app do you use and is it free?

Pokeyonekenobie, Thats nice that you are running with your niblings. I have exercise-induced asthma too. I need to take better care of it as well.

Ponyfan & Beth3346, keep going, your doing Great still!!!

Hey everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve stepped back into the thread, but I can say I’ve slowly been working on a health journey. So, about a year and a half ago I lost sixty pounds. I’m not small and even dropping that weight I’m still obese. I’ve kept a decent schedule but really I haven’t lost any weight lately and I gained back 15 recently.

I’m cutting my food back to my more nutrient and less processed staples. I’ve also found a new local gym that also has a pool. I’m going to sign up Tuesday and start working out with a local friend. I want to swim, lift weights, and get going on the treadmill. I have a long way to go to reach my new goals.

Thanks for revitalizing this Starflashbaby! I’ve been slacking a little, and this thread does always help motivate me to work harder so I’m glad to see it again! :) Sounds like you’ve got some good goals outlined!

I use the LoseIt app. It is free, but I personally do have the paid version because it has more features that really allow you to easily log your food and keep track of your goals. I honestly don’t remember what I was missing in the feee version though, I have had the paid version for so many years that I’ve forgotten what the free one is like! They do sometimes have deals around new years where you can buy a lifetime subscription which is what I did. If you think you will be using it for a year or more it may worth it! :) Based on what LoseIt says I am indeed still on track to hit my goal weight in November. It feels like I haven’t lost anything, but looking back at where I was a couple months ago I guess I have lost and steadily kept off about 3 pounds or so. It may not seem like much, but I’m fine with taking it slow!

We recently had a health and wellness meeting at work where we set some health goals for ourselves. Not that I think my boss actually cares if I stick to my goal LOL but I’m going to try and be faithful to it! I really need to start going to the gym again. My goal is to go at least 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. I keep trying to get back into going but it’s really been a struggle.

Thanks for posting, Starflashbaby. :D   It's been a while since I posted in this thread too.

I've fallen off a bit since my medical procedure.  My surgeon told me I had to stop my slim shots and pills that go with them for 2 weeks before.  I didn't start them again until I got the okay from her.  I've been on the shots again for 2 weeks, but the pills haven't arrived yet. I still lost 3 pounds this week though.

Yeah, I lost track of this thread too.

My cardiologist wanted to put me in a group study for Ozempic for weight loss, but because of my gastroparesis I couldn't do it. I was really bummed out.

I'm sticking to my diet and only having something I shouldn't (pizza, pasta, bread) once in a while. I had a pizza this month so I can't have another one until next month. The last time I was weighed I hadn't gained anything but I didn't lose anything either.

I need more exercise. My bike is still laying on the living room floor waiting to be put together. I bought that back in June.

My doctor is trying two new meds for me. One is like an ADHD med and should help with motivation and focus, also it will help keep me awake during the day. The other one is for pain. It's not a narcotic, she can't prescribe those, but it's one of the strongest pain meds you can get. I've had shots of it before but never in pill form. If they both work, I'll be able to move around better and hopefully get some exercise in.

Yeah...I need to be better about stuff, too.  That one run with my niblings was the only one we did this summer.  We just never made time to do it again.  I'm working on getting back in the habit of using the treadmill since my brother decided to DoorDash around the country so he's somewhere over in South Carolina last I heard.  But I'm also taking it easy this week because I twisted my ankle so I'd rather not aggravate that more than necessary.

So here's a cheer for everyone who is trying to do whatever it is they're doing!  :cheer:

BlackCurtains ADHD meds do help with hunger. so you have to set an alarm to eat during the day to remind yourself that Hey its time to eat and that way your not doing what I'm doing is eating before bed That I'm trying to break a bad Habit so I'm just letting you know ahead of time "Set Alarms" and eat something Healthy... I wish I knew then what I know now... Ya know... P.S If you skip breakfast and eat around noon and then stop eating around 8pm or 6pm depending on what time you go to bed It would be considered Intermittent fasting... Just an FYI.. A few weeks ago, we ate out 2 times for my mom's birthday.  I had to get weighed and get my shot the next day.  I thought  my weight was up because of the 2 meals we ate out.  The last time I weighed, though I stayed the same as that week.

I ate a lot of Life Savers yesterday.  Usually, I'm pretty good about not eating a lot of candy.

Yes!! I go to EŌS. I really like them a lot. :) I know there are some complaints about it being a busy gym, but I tend to go around like, midnight so I never notice lol! They are the only 24 hour gym I know of around me so that alone makes me like them. The movie room is definitely my favorite part of their gyms! Other than having something interesting to look at during my workout I also like the dim lighting in that room, it’s so much cozier to workout in lol! They have a mix of different cardio machines in there. Mine has 3 ellipticals, 3 stair climbers, and a bunch of treadmills and bikes. I wish they had weight training stuff in there too. I might be more motivated to do that stuff if a movie was playing!

I’ve not yet taken advantage of any of their group classes. I can’t really determine if they cost extra or not so I’ve been too cheap to try signing up for one to see. they have a water aerobics class in the evenings that I’d like to try someday though! They have a pretty good variety of different classes for all kinds of different activities and skill levels, so I’m sure they might have a good cycling class to try! :)

I hope EŌS ends up being a good match for you shockponie! It probably depends on the location but everyone at my location is pretty chill and just keeps to themselves. I know they have open houses kinda frequently so they should let you tour the facility too!

Speaking of I’ve fallen off the wagon again. I skipped going to the gym last week since I had to go in the office and I’m having trouble working up the motivation to get going again. I think I’ve managed to lose another pound though, and I’m pretty sure that is thanks to when I WAS working out so that’s going to be my motivation!

Yeah, I have to look into an open house!

My eating habits last month were deplorable. I was off track more than I wasn’t, thus leading to a minor weight gain. This month so far has been an even split…. So I guess it’s progress? Not as good as I’d hoped, but I am learning more and more that beating myself up does absolutely nothing to help the situation. It’s a hard lesson for me to learn to not dwell on mistakes. I just need to do my best. I have been going for walks lately. Today was super humid, but I did it!  ^^;

My appetite has been non-existent. I've just been drinking a lot of different things. Water, sparkling water, V8 low sodium, orange juice with calcium, oat milk that I bought for my smoothies and cereal. I don't even feel like making smoothies. It seems like too much food. I have still not put my bike together. I think I'm going to move it into the bedroom and put it together and keep it in there.

My appetite has been non-existent. I've just been drinking a lot of different things. Water, sparkling water, V8 low sodium, orange juice with calcium, oat milk that I bought for my smoothies and cereal. I don't even feel like making smoothies. It seems like too much food. I need to buy a smaller cup for my Nutribullet, I have two big ones.

BlackCurtains You could put on some music while putting your bike together like either on headsets or on the TV or whatever has music, that way it makes the time go by faster while putting a bike together.

That's not really the problem. It's my back. I can't bend down very well. So having the pieces on the floor and sitting in a chair isn't ideal. I'd sit on the floor too, but I don't think I could get back up

I couldn't get my slim shot last week, because the drs office was out.  I was sure I was going to gain weight because I cheated a little, but I lost 3 pounds since the last time I was there.  :)

BC
that makes sense... I wonder, do you know of anyone close by or a neighbor who would be willing to put it together for you? Are there any pony people in your area who would come over and talk ponies while putting it together? I'm trying to remember where you live? Midwest? I would have to look at your Profile again. I know your a great customizer so maybe showing your work would be cool to the other person.

Edit: Florida - I knew it was familiar... I'm sure there are tons of pony people in Florida or Georgia who want to take a day trip. and would to help out a fellow pony friend.  (I'm just trying to brainstorm Ideas for ya)

Ponyfan: Great job at losing 3 extra pounds  :cheer: I need to catch up to you lol! I'm still far behind

I have been eating more meal protein bars lately from Kellogg's they are good too & healthy... I want to buy some protein bars from performance inspired but I haven't got a chance to splurge the money. They are cheaper at the Hyvee store. I haven't been working out at all... when I told that to my councilor he was like... That figures.... cause its the same story every time... So he was a little frustrated with me. I do have to work harder at losing weight...

You got this Starflashbaby! I know working up the energy to exercise is tricky. I still struggle with it. In fact, I’ve fallen off the wagon again haha I have not been to the gym recently. In my opinion and experience diet is far more important to weight loss than exercise. Not saying exercise isn’t important, because it is! But I didn’t truly start losing until I took a hard look at what I was eating and adjusted accordingly. It sounds like you are starting to make some good adjustments there, so that’s a great start!

BC, if I was closer I’d totally help put together your bike. Call me crazy but I actually love assembling furniture! It’s like a puzzle! To build off Starflashbaby’s suggestion maybe someone on Task Rabbit could help? I’m not sure how expensive they are since I’ve never tried them myself, but I know they specialize in furniture assembly!

Way to go with losing three more pounds Ponyfan! That’s definitely a huge accomplishment you should be proud of!

I’ve lost a little more weight! I’ve got about 5 pounds left to go until I’m at my goal. :) I signed up for a 5k this winter. I don’t have much stamina for running, so I’ll probably walk most of it, but I think it will be a fun activity! Even though the race is timed there are no prizes, so it won’t be stressful. I’m too competitive to enter one with prizes haha! I’m going to try and slowly build up my running ability before then! I do actually like running, I just can’t go far.

Thanks for the advice. It is still unassembled, but I did put the smaller parts in a box, so...

When I get more money I'll see about hiring someone.

MM, I used to love putting stuff together too! I was the go to person for everyone in my family for assembling stuff. But as I got older and had more complications with my joints and back, it began to feel like a chore, and when I would tell someone no, they would get all nasty with me. Between the two it sucked any joy out of it that was left and now I hate putting stuff together.

I've managed to lose some weight from eating light. I'm still on antibiotics and they mess my stomach up, so I've only been eating yogurt, cottage cheese, pineapple, and occasionally a bowl of Cheerios. I also started taking a probiotic everyday and of course drinking lots of water.

Well I joined the gym and then hurt my back. The doctor has me on some stuff but  I don’t actually feel better yet. I can say at least I’ve been better lately with the food. I just need to be consistent.

It's November and I forgot until about 8 pm last night that Nanowrimo is happening.   :freak:

Since I'm still at work I haven't started writing yet but there are people in my area that have already written 3k+ words today.  I feel like I'm behind.  My goal this month is to finish the fanfic I've been working on for longer than I care to admit.  I haven't even updated it online in like, nine months. So...yeah, I'm pretty sure some of my readers assume I've abandoned it and that's not the case so I really need to finish it.

I think the above post was meant for another thread.

I'm still eating light and my shorts are falling off. I went out to get an Amazon package that was on top of the stairs away from my door. When I stood back up after grabbing the box, my shorts came down  I don't think anyone saw. This is bad though because I only have five pairs of shorts and two are the same as the ones that fell.

Status of exercise bike - I put the smaller pieces in a box. Still not assembled!

I think Nanowrimo is a good goal. I’ve been trying to motivate myself to get into it and write this year. I’m so far behind on my word count.

No worries.  I had a stressful day at work yesterday so your comment caught me in a snappish mood.  Reading it now I was quite rude about it.  Sorry about that. :)

ETA: Came across a treadmill workout I might have to try.  It's the "12-3-30" workout. You set your treadmill at 12 incline and walk at a speed of 3 MPH for 30 minutes.  With that incline, it would be like climbing up the side of a mountain so I can imagine you'd get a really good leg/butt workout.

Agreed! I've been using Campfire Writing to sit and plan a bit. I was hoping it might motivate me to really sit and get to work on mine. I have all these ideas but writer's block is kicking my butt.

I was surprised I didn't gain this week since I had to get my shot and weigh in a couple of days after Thanksgiving.

I got a bag of pretzels at the store. I haven't had pretzels in a long time.  I hope I don't eat the whole bag in a couple of days.

I’ve got some big goals for the next year.
1st is to eliminate ultraprocessed foods from our diet completely (with exception of if I’m traveling, gifted, or invited out to eat and can’t realistically avoid without hassle or being rude.)
2nd is to live on less than half our household income for the next year (this would leave me with a small fixed amount for anything that isn’t an absolute necessity for the whole year, with the purpose of being able to pay as much into our mortgage as possible.)

My spouse is on board but we are still working out specifics and plan to implement at the beginning of the year.

My goal for 2024: Take my lifelong dream trip to Australia

I've already saved up for my plane ticket, now I just need to save for the hotel/place to stay, and anything related to food, as well as the things I need for my cat, as she is coming with me.

:frolic:

It will be tough, as money will be tight, but I know this trip will be so worth it

one of my goals this year is to get in better shape. not really just weight loss just strength and flexibility. i also just need more endurance. if i'm going to be taking care of my parents more i need to take care of myself too. also last time i went into the grocery store i was a little winded. it's a big grocery store and i was walking fast to get just one item but still...

i also need to save more money this year and pay off some of the debt we have from furnishing the house.

Spoiler
hiding because it's job related. i really want to build up a more reliable freelance client base for web dev/design work. i have a handful of clients but it's small and I would really like to have enough income from freelance so that if something happens with my current job i can just freelance full-time. I love building and designing websites and applications but i hate the big tech side of things.

My goal is to put that damn bike together for real this time. I need to do something about the swelling in my legs and cycling is a great way to get rid of it. I need to take more breaks from sitting at my desk. I need to set a timer for 20minutes, then get up and walk/cycle for 10. It's going to put a hamper on my gametime, but playing a game for hours straight is not as important as my health and comfort.

I need to limit salt. I don't really use salt in my own cooking, unless it's potatoes. I need to pay attention to packaged foods though. My favorite snack is white cheddar popcorn. I don't put salt on it, but there's a lot of salt in the cheese powder. I will have to eat less of it.

Long term, I'd like to rejoin a gym. When I have my own money I'll be able to afford membership and cost for the ride there and back. I can take the "bus" (it's not really a bus, like city bus, you have to have an appointment 24 hours in advance, but it's only $2 if you're disabled).

Once I start feeling better and hopefully get some mobility back, I'd like to volunteer at the animal shelter.

This is going to be a year+ project, but I think I can do it.

It's not a done deal yet, but my mom found out she can go to the aquatic center basically for free after paying a one time fee of $25 for a scannable tag.  I can join her for $10 each time she goes.  The aquatic center has a lap pool and a therapy pool where they do water aerobics in the mornings.   I hope she decides to join.  I've missed being in a pool.  We have a hot tub in the backyard, but it's broken.

In addition to doing more writing for my projects, my ultimate goal for 2024 is to give my YouTube channel a lot more attention - I only uploaded one episode for my Animation Review Show this year, and that's supposed to be my main show...

Next year, I not only aim to work hard to get more Animation Reviews done, but to basically "be a YouTuber", and upload things more generally, like while I'm working on the things that take longer to finish (like the reviews), I'll do something that can ultimately be done in a day, like a Gaming episode, or a Vlog, and upload that.

I also aim to do some My Little Pony related videos in someway, in addition to obviously reviewing the cartoons.

I loved this initiative!! I also need to lose weight, I'm very heavy and this is harming my health because I'm pre-diabetic, as well as my low self-esteem and the bullying people do to me! my goal is to focus on veterinary medicine school and be an excellent student and help the blue macaws and also increase my pony and comic collections

I'm going to try this next year to be better about what I eat and to exercise more.  I'm doing this for myself and no one else so it's not about shame because of how other people view me but about pride for me to do what I set out to do and to (hopefully) look and feel fabulous when I get to the point I want to be at.

I want everyone on here to feel good about their goals and not feel shame for anything they are (or aren't) working towards.  Everyone is awesome and I hope everyone is able to remember that, even on days that things don't go the way we want them to.

We CAN do it!

I’ve fallen off the wagon a bit for the holidays. I’m up about 5 pounds, but I’m not too worried about it, I know I can lose it again in time! I’m still overall happy with where I’m at health wise and I hope to keep improving in the new year. :)

I did my first 5k earlier this month! I actually ran more of it than I expected to. Having other people to pace me helped me not overdo it in the beginning so I could run longer. There was a guy there in an inflatable Olaf costume that was right behind me the whole time. I told myself I wanted to at least beat Olaf and I did lol! I ended up placing 174 out of almost 500, so for a first attempt I’m quite happy with that! I had a lot of fun and I think I’d like to do more 5ks in the future. I just wish there were more night runs, I don’t do mornings!

Thanks for bumping.

I'm doing really well with the swelling in my legs :) The folliculitis is almost gone.

Also doing good with the no salt.

I have gained a lot of weight though. I need to stop eating pasta and pizza so much. I also need to exercise more.

All the junk is gone from my kitchen :freak:

Now to replace it with healthier alternatives. I want to get back on smoothies and eat more veggies and fruits, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh homemade soups. No more pasta. I can't give up pizza... but I don't have to buy a full sized one. Red Baron makes singles and they're fine with me. Or I can make my own! Even better :P

I started drinking Pepsi again at some point too. I was so addicted to the stuff in high school. Sometimes I wouldn't eat, I'd just drink Pepsi and smoke cigarettes. Ew. No wonder I grew up to be so unhealthy. Anyway, I need to get off it, there's so much sugar. I was doing really well only having to have a few Dr. Pepper on hand before. I can do that again.

Good on you for removing the junk BC! :cheer:

This year has been a struggle for me weight-wise, but I’m getting back on track for March. I think journaling has helped, knowing that I don’t want to write down any negatives. I’ve been trying to go for walks, but sometimes I really feel like I’m forcing myself to go. Actually, I’m procrastinating taking my walk right now.  :lookround:
