Title: Princess Pony symbol replica?
Post by: fizzerknight on December 12, 2017, 09:34:40 PM
Hey all!

Im eventually going to commission for a Hasbro replica of Princess Primrose but I've wondered how the symbol would be replicated..
Obviously It's going to be the customizer who ends up deciding but has anyone actually attempted it?

I'd love to see examples if anyone has any!
Did you include a jewel?
Was there lots of sculpting involved?
Or did you paint the symbol? (I'd love to see that!)  :inlove:

On really small ponies like G4's I've made replicas out of acrylic gems, but on larger ponies I just use the symbols from hopelessly baity princesses.

Is this a cross gen, alt-posed or fakie custom? Because Princess Primrose is pretty cheap and common.  I don't think a repro  would look exactly like how a real one would look.

I love Primrose but not a huge fan of her pose. lol

So she's common?
Is the symbol easy to remove?

I think I'd still feel bad about ripping off her symbol! haha

I'd imagine a baity princess would also have a scuffed up baity symbol.. but maybe I'll get lucky and find one with scratch-free jewels. lol

Ooh! Which pose?

I have no idea if the symbol is easy to remove.

You could possibly make a cast of one if you didnt want to actually remove it from an existing pony.. I know there are lots of tutorials on youtube and even probably here on the arena for achiving this. :)

Eh, sometimes you get decent symbols on ponies with missing limbs, sometimes you get scuffs on otherwise pristine ones.  Just depends.  All the girls I bought to intentionally take the symbols from were straight NASTY.  It took ages to find gross enough princesses!

No, the symbols are not easy to remove.

You might be best either casting or sculpting your own symbols :)

I've done a couple of "symbol transplants" and it's not straight forward.

Oh dear. Well I figured the actual symbol transfer would be a doozy. Looks like sculpting it is!

Have you? You wouldn't have any pictures by chance would you Pinkkittywinks? I'm just so curious to see what that'd look like! lol

The Princesses have custom modifications to their moulds - there's this large cavity that a very substantial base of the medallion slots into, and a honkin' huge plastic washer that holds it in place inside the body.  They're like icebergs, it's kind of unreal how big the anchor of the medallion is!  I can only guess they wanted to be 100% sure no little kid could pull them apart, and it seems to have done the job.  Pretty rare to find a Princess without their medallions.

Baby Sugarberry WOW that's crazy. It makes me feel bad for the Princess Ponies who've undergone the surgery!

And Pinkkittywinks OMG!! Did you sculpt that??? Its AMAZING!!  :iconclap: :iconclap:

Thank you ^.^

I didn't sculpt the symbols or the horn, I transplanted them from a very poorly Princess Amethyst.

The horn was easy to transfer and glue in place, but the symbols where a different matter. I had to cut holes in his sides to exactly the right size.

Oh gosh. The dreaded surgery.. lol. He's gorgeous though.

Do you think someone accepting a commission that involves the removal of those symbols should charge a little more? It seems like a butt-load more work.

Yes, if it where me and I had accepted the commission, it would cost a little more.

Pony surgery is a serious thing!

TRUTH!

Notice that I have only made ONE such custom

I'm going to make my custom princess ponies symbols. I was thinking eith using airdrying clay or the thing I'm going to use for Gusty's body. Which would be better? No cutting required.
