I’ve been browsing display cabinets online, and the range of prices and models is insane... I’m getting very frustrated. I want to revamp my display room, and I’m really tired of bookshelves and all of the problems they pose (DUST. SO MUCH DUST.).
I’m trying to find a suitable way to display my ponies (and other toys, including 11” fashions dolls and small figurines). I want something that will last, that preferably doesn’t require wall-mounting of any kind, and that looks... not chintzy, I guess? I would also like to keep my ponies safely behind glass, while still being easily accessible (no elaborate locks, fasteners, or door mechanisms). Can anyone recommend a good place to shop online? Please help me! T_T

Ikea Billy cabinets with glass doors?
-
I was looking at those... but the broad trim bothers me. :/ I’d like something with an all-glass door if possible, instead of dual doors. I feel like the trim eats up a lot of display space. Or is that just how it looks in photos?

You could get the Morliden (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19020480/) doors for the Billy (instead of the usual Oxberg) and simply not put an insert behind the glass. Morlidens are sort of notoriously fiddly to hang though, so maybe not the best idea if you don't have a handy friend to help.
The Detolf (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80269122/) cabinet is the typical all-glass option I see people use for collectibles.

Would look similar to that..

Thank you for the suggestions! ^_^
I really like the Detolf. I wish there were a way to avoid the hefty shipping costs, but I suppose it’s understandable. What retailers sell IKEA in the U.S., besides the actual IKEA Centers?
The Morliden doors look nice, but I’m not so handy. XD I’d be a bit worried about ruining them during assembly...

If you’re on Facebook, keep an eye on the “marketplace”. Amazing what turns up on there.

If you get Detolf shelves, be careful as they have been known to spontaneously shatter.

Whoa! Seriously? Yikes

I have a Billy bookcase with the Morliden shelves. They are a bit weird to install, but it’s not that bad. It’s the hinges. They’re weird. It’s hard to describe. Just read the directions well, and have some help. Once you figure out how they work, it’s not that hard. You can get a lot of ponies in a Billy shelf!
-
You could build your own. Or see if a family member or friend could help you. You could measure how tall you want them and paint them yourself. Buy the supplies yourself. Might be cheeper that way. It wouldent be hard to assemble you just need someone to cut boards for you. Also home depot and lows provides that service of cutting boards too.

Wow. I’m super hesitant to get them now, as I have cats who love to jump on things...

Hmm... That might be worth a shot. What are my odds of ruining the whole thing, if I mess something up? XD

I’ve considered this, since it would be easier to get the perfect fit for my rooms... I had no idea Home Depot and Lowes would cut the boards for you! I’m hopeless with a hammer and nails, though. Seriously, it’s like watching Goofy try to build something on an old Disney cartoon. XP

Glass doors tho?

I’d say if you’re going to do the Billy/Morliden thing, make sure you have an assistant. Your chances of damaging things goes up exponentially if you’re trying to maneuver those awkward doors by yourself.

It's not that it happens all the time but it's not unknown. If you Google Detolf shelf shattering you'll see videos and photos come up. Another MLP person on FB had it happen last week too.

Have you tried FB marketplace? I find lots of uses furniture I like to fix up

I have some of my dolls in a Detolf cabinet. I hope it doesn’t shatter.

When I looked at getting the Detolf for my dolls the IKEA website quoted me something $350 shipping. I had to go to an IKEA store to get mine.

I put 6 in my cart and it said only $39 shipping. I can't remember what the shipping zones look like, but I'm a solid 2 hours away from an Ikea. (Most of the time shipping is better then wasting half a day /gas... ) But I know it can vary due to the zones.

I just put one in my cart and shipping was $200. I live more than 4 hours away from the nearest Ikea store.

Ah
Oh man I thought a 2 hour trip was bad! I can't imagine 4...
