The introduction of new characters and a departure from designs featured in Friendship is Magic and Pony Life is intended to shift the brands focus to more modern themes like diversity and inclusion.
The moviess main character, for example, is an activist working to make the pony world a better place.
Instead of abandoning the franchises characters and stories, the movie will take place in the same world featured in Friendship is Magic and Pony Life, but jump ahead in time to focus on a new generation of ponies and unexplored corners of Equestria. This creates opportunities to include nods to the propertys previous iterations, both in upcoming content and consumer products offerings.4/30/2021:
And eOne will begin reimagining popular Hasbro franchises. My Little Pony is getting a TV show reboot, for example. Goldner said more upcoming projects will be announced at the company's investor day on February 25.---
Paramount Pictures was originally set to distribute the film, which had been scheduled to open in theaters on Sept. 24, 2021. Hasbro’s entertainment studio Entertainment One produced the movie and will retain distribution rights in China. And directors:
Though the exact release date is unclear, “My Little Pony” is expected to land on Netflix later this year.
Robb Cullen and Jose Ucha directed the upcoming installment with Mark Fattibene. Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis served as producers.
I tried to find the directors past filmography and didn't see much of interest.
In the new movie, the pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. Friendship and Harmony have been replaced by paranoia and mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Sunny - a feisty and idealistic young Earth Pony - is convinced there’s still hope for this divided world, but her slightly misguided and often hilarious efforts to change hearts and minds have led to her being branded a misfit. When Sunny befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, who wanders innocently into the Earth Pony town of Maretime Bay, the town has had enough. Izzy and Sunny must embark on an epic adventure that will include a daring jewel heist, outrageous conspiracy theories, elaborate musical numbers, and the world’s cutest flying Pomeranian. Their adventures will take them to faraway lands and force them to challenge the status quo by facing their fears and making new friends out of old enemies. The world Sunny has dreamed of her entire life could finally become a reality as Sunny and her newfound friends fight to prove that even little ponies can make a big difference.
Also, I'm glad we dodged the bullet of the idea that the cast would be the Mane 6 with a twist. If it was that, I would scream bloody murder.Haha don't even joke about that, it'll give them ideas. :yikes:
Also, I'm glad we dodged the bullet of the idea that the cast would be the Mane 6 with a twist. If it was that, I would scream bloody murder.I'd reallly love to see some sort of design! Hopefully with the investor call next month we can at least get a sillhouette.
Genuinely don't care where it's set, I just want new characters!! I fully expect we'll get a new set of main characters that'll be re-released into oblivion, but, y'know, as long as they're new characters...
At this point, I don't give a flying rat turd about the cartoon after the awfulness that is PL, as long as the toys return to well-made, pretty horseyness and diverse, balanced lines like G1 and G3.
This doesn't really sound like anything we didn't know before? Besides the main character being an activist thing. But I thought we already knew it would take place in Equestria but with new main characters...?I think there might have been some speculation that it would take place in Equestria, but I don't believe it was confirmed until now.
Pokeyonekenobie! :scared: Go sit in the corner, and think about what you just said.
;)
having an activist main character comes across like "how do you do fellow kids" and trend chasing
Anyone here getting tired of the Mane Six? I mean, they're great and all, but with all due respect, we've had the same main characters for about ten years now. Doesn't anybody want some new main characters? Somepony new? With new personalities and names and everything, not just a slight recolor or a 'new look' like Pony Life? For goodness sake, Hasbro, I'm getting tired of these ponies. Maybe for G5 do something where you use names/slightly altered colors from G1, especially ponies that were usually left in the background and weren't really paid attention to! I can already think of a new 'Mane Six':
- Medley: Sweet as pie, loves to sing, always there to help a friend, green pegasus with blue-green mane, silvery-blue eyes, cutie mark is silver music notes
- Bubbles: Exaggerates things, a bit ditzy, always tries to keep her promises, darkish yellow earth pony with darkish cyan mane and white blaze on forehead, darkish cyan eyes, cutie mark is three darkish cyan bubbles and two lime bubbles
- Glory: Adventurous, fun to be around, never flees any danger her friends might be in, pure white unicorn with messy light indigo mane with a sky blue streak, sky blue eyes match streak, cutie mark is light indigo shooting star with three light indigo stars around it
- Locket: Smart, good at keeping secrets, will never abandon a friend even if it means something bad will happen to her, darkish pink pegasus with pale purple, white, and orange mane, pale purple eyes thank always seem to sparkle, cutie mark is three orange keys
- Primrose: Loves to garden, always tries, likes to sing with Medley, peach-pink earth pony with blue hair with a reddish-purple streak (Because G1 Primrose had a red tail, and no cop cars here, please!), warm amber eyes, cutie mark is blue butterfly on a reddish-purple primrose
- Buttons (not a background pony): Organized, creative, sometimes a worrywart, almost pastel purple unicorn with blue hair with light red steak that has a tinge of pink to it, very light pink eyes, symbol is three light red buttons with a tinge of pink to them and three blue stars
I'm not a great drawer, so I won't provide a picture of them, but if someone else could make them in a G5 style, that would be very great! I'd love to see what you could do.

Old can be new, too! In a way, but they'd be all new and different, with their personalities and colors each changed in their own way. Besides, what's so bad about G1?
And if they do not have boys in any sort of advertisement, or whatever, then it's all a bunch of hooey to me.
And if they do not have boys in any sort of advertisement, or whatever, then it's all a bunch of hooey to me.
G4 targeted boys pretty aggressively with Guardians of Harmony and - partially - cosigned the Brony craze.
I am wondering about the rumors that this gen will be for slightly older audiences than FiM? Did we get any confirmation on that? Because if this show is truly for Gen Alpha then this rumor is as good as debunked. Like I stated, Gen Alpha is super young. That was from the original leaked emails, no official word on demographics aside from Gen Alpha were made though.
No offense, you sound kind of upset. I'm sorry if I made you upset, I'm not trying to be rude or mean or anything like that in any way. You're right. You never said anything way wrong with G1, and old is old, that's true. I just kinda wanted to see some of my favorite characters from G1 again. Sorry again.Old can be new, too! Not really. Old is old, and I didn't say there was anything wrong with G1.
Its constant rehashing from 3.5 onward that started mlp on a downward spiral towards repetitive stagnation.

I also think they have got it a tad wrong when saying Gen Alpha are the ones craving these activist type characters and stories. I think they have them confused for Gen Z, the oldest of which are now 22, 23 years old. Gen Alpha are babies and Kindergarteners.

i can say that i will not be visiting here when february 25th rolls around, at least until i've formed my own opinion, lol. i didn't have an account yet but i remember how absolutely brutal this place was when G4 was revealed!
Wait what's happening on February 25th? Are Hasbro doing something to fill in the lack of Toy Fair that day?Hasbro is holding an investors event! It sounds like it will replace the toy fair.
I think diversity + messages are super important for all ages. But I'm feeling iffy about the main character being an "activist". I think it's just should be something that's shown and not be preachy about it. And if they do not have boys in any sort of advertisement, or whatever, then it's all a bunch of hooey to me.

Jem also dealt with executive fraud, peer pressure, abuse, medical issues...Plus maybe in Jem herself the problems of overwork and how it can lead to mental ill health. By Midsummer Night Madness and THe Day the Music Died she has Problems to the point she makes Rio three-time herself and runs off on a boat with Riot.
But then again it also has a Yeti and time travel :/ So.
Such is the way of any long-running, multi-generation series' fandom ;) Same thing happened with G2, it happened with EQG, it happened much more mildly with G4.5, it'll almost certainly happen with G5, and I'm calling it now, if we get a G6, it'll happen with that, too. :silly:
i think it would be lovely if they included textured hair in the toy line! i'm also hoping to see boy ponies that aren't blue/red and actually have hair, and interesting body shapes. it was a really big deal in 2014 when the pony with the wheelchair was featured in the show and rainbow roadtrip had a pony with a prosthetic, wonder if they will do something like that in the toys too.
i am probably getting ahead of myself, though. :silly: we'll get a dragon or something.
I just can't stop thinking about how bad Equestria must be to need an activist pony and then I just
Like it's just so funny to me. Like are ponies fracking now?
The main thing I would like is for different body types. I want chunky ponies and lanky ponies and short ponies and tall ponies. I would rather my ponies to not look like they are just different colored clones.I'd support this
Textured hair?it’s a broad way to refer to all the different types of curly hair. not pony hair with sandpaper glued to it or something lol!

Back on topic of the G5 movie and the info in the article, I was talking to Tealeaf about it on Discord. The Mane 6 unified the creatures of Equestria, with more species living together in harmony than ever before, with the yaks, kirin, changelings, dragons, griffins, and hippogriffs, etc. So now, all of a sudden, even the MAIN THREE pony species are split apart again? How far ahead in the future does this take place?!?! What kind of princess was Twilight to have let this happen?!? :lmao:
But then, I wonder, it's a "future" version of G4 Equestria, but is it the same exact universe as FiM, or is it a different one? G4 has different canons, does it not? Such as the comics? And different universes definitely exist already, as seen in that season finale where they redeem Starlight Glimmer. I don't play the Gameloft game much but I know they always like to bring in "alternate" or whatever versions of the Mane 6, such as vampires/bat ponies like "Appledrac".
so... i saw this morning that a poster on a rather infamous brony board (y'all know the one)
so... i saw this morning that a poster on a rather infamous brony board (y'all know the one) claimed to have gone to an early screening/script-reading of the movie and gave a bit of a plot summary. this was in october and they got majorly poo-pooed at the time, but the information is in-line with this article and the leaked animatic. quick run-down below, potentially major spoilers but remember to take this with a huge grain of salt. This is so interesting!! I won't add it to the wiki just yet but this ties in well with the information we have. Digital painting style would be so cool!Spoiler1. It is very far in the future. None of the FIM characters are actually around anymore, except to represent "better times."
2. Ponies fought and different types now all live in separate, themed lands (you might recall that this was a major theme in the leaks from a couple years ago).
3. The land is ruled by a council of alicorns, who dictate what ponies can do based off of their race and cutie mark. There is an underdog alicorn who speaks out and this one is an idol for the MC.
4. MC is a pegasus with a partially functioning wing and is in a pacifist group, along with her Twilight-esque unicorn coworker.
5. The above 2 go on a journey to find the elements of harmony and find the other 4 on the way.
6. Other 4 are a hippogriff/seapony, kirin, bat pony, and a changeling boy.
Additionally:
1. Movie is digital painting style, similarly to Into the Spiderverse. Imalou seems to be a major influence.
2. Some themes of the separate lands: Earth = western, Pegasus = steampunk, Unicorn = supernatural, Bat = goth, Kirin = Japanese folklore (includes dragons), Changeling = cyberpunk.
3. The poster claimed the race/diversity themes were done well and not hamfisted, and if someone posting on this particular board is claiming that, I'm inclined to believe them.
sorry if i'm late to the game on this one, by the way!
Unfortunately I think it is not to be named. :PQuoteso... i saw this morning that a poster on a rather infamous brony board (y'all know the one)
I don't know what board you're talking about 😳 care to share?
it's a little strange for all the other lands to be relatively neutral and then have one directly inspired by a real-world culture.I'm assuming "western" means something like "ye olde wild west in the USA" - that's also a real-world culture! Or if it just means to imply western civilization...ditto.
it's a little strange for all the other lands to be relatively neutral and then have one directly inspired by a real-world culture.
i just figured either someone was trying to irritate some bronies and got very lucky with a couple details, or they’re telling the truth. my guess is that the november post is pot-stirring regardless.
This is true, Tales did try to tackle lessons with environmentalism, judging others prematurely and typical social lessons about gossip, secrets and getting along.
And in fairness, the 80s and 90s were rife with PSAs, and cartoons tackling the issues of the day.
Captain Planet tackled environmental issues, AIDs, drugs and bigotry
The banned (but brilliantly handled) Gargoyles gun episode
JatH tackled drugs, dyslexia, and dysfunctional families
COPs
Fat Albert
Dot and the Kangaroo tackled fire and selling wild animals
Granted, they didn't always do them well. Still, its nothing new for Hasbro, I just wish they didn't suck at it.
"Western" is a culture, too ;) Nothing neutral about Americana.haha yes i posted above, i forgot about that one altogether. for shame, since i’m from texas! :silly:
The hacker known as [REDACTED] would never lie to meLOL never. everyone knows anonymous boards full of dudes with hair-trigger tempers are actually the most reliable source of information.
Hmm, interesting stuff. Wonder how much of it is true, if any...SpoilerProbably in the minority here, but I'm excited at the prospect of more bat pony toys. I always thought those were a cute species design ^^ Was disappointed they never really made any toys of them.
To be honest they might have played it safer going for historical something for all of them, rather than modern culture. Mind you,SpoilerVictorian = blah, I don't know why shows keep fixing on it. There are so many more interesting things they could have done.
I automatically expect in a US TV show that the west = the US and that's fine. I don't see a problem with it, I mean, they're making it, and that should mean it's not culturally insensitive. I wouldn't read it as representing the WHOLE west since Western culture is diverse between countries, but it's probably not going to offend anyone if it doesn't represent every single cultural facet. I just wonder if Victorian is meant to be a nod to here, and if so, that will be annoying. Especially if there's a faux-English accent involved. Please no. ><
I suppose with the Kirin aspect, it depends on how they do it, but I am fairly sure that China considers the Qilin to be theirs first and foremost. The Japanese word comes from the Chinese one, after all. I would be more worried about stereotypes in this context that might be taken amiss as well. Aside the relationships in Asia being a bit of a minefield, Western ideas of Japanese culture are a bit...narrow. :/ But we'll see. I may be overthinking it.
And all of this may not be accurate, so.
I will say this. I really like the idea of the MC having a wing disability. Depending on how they handle it, having a disabled MC in a kid's show is a potentially powerful thing.
I am not sure why I am spoilering since the whole thread is really about spoilers, but just in case :)

I know a lot of Texans... including those living in more rural areas and they're sick of it too. There is a thin line between showcasing another culture and looking down on it. It's even worse when an outsider is trying to "save" people from it.
I don't mind gentle lessons about caring and friendship but something about this whole story line reminds me of Hunger Games.

Yeah, the thing that makes me doubt the rumors the most is the claim the new "core" group won't have a regular pony in a franchise called My Little PONY ;)
I agree. I think "variety" is a good term, much better suited than "diversity". "Making MLP more diverse" could totally backfire and having a bunch of nonponies that are then repeated over and over like the M6. Then they could say "see? They are no longer all ponies. Progress, diversity, good!" but it would be the same as before, just with a new roster of species.
Also, this might piss people off, but do we really have to pretend it's "exclusionary" to have MLP be about MLP? Like, I loved how FiM brought in the other species towards the end but aside from Flutterponies G1 was already doing that just fine and it was still centered on the main stars of the franchise: ponies.
Who are the people who say:"MLP is wrong for having so many MLPs, hmpf! Fix it, bigots!" I don't have the faintest clue. So I take all these infos about a mixed main cast with a big grain of salt.
Spoilerthe supposed main cast all still read as "ponies" to me, honestly. i'm not quite understanding this criticism. unicorn, different kind of unicorn, pegasus, different kind of pegasus, different-er kind of pegasus (who doubles as a mermaid), bug pony for boy toy potential. the only thing being excluded is earth ponies, which seems more like toy marketing than a social statement.
Again, they are the basis. Its one thing if fringe breeds don't come back each generation. Example, flutter ponies because of their fragile wings, sea ponies because they're difficult to stand perhaps, but the 3 main species, or at least 2 of the 3 species, has always been there. That's what makes some people doubt.Spoilerthe supposed main cast all still read as "ponies" to me, honestly. i'm not quite understanding this criticism. unicorn, different kind of unicorn, pegasus, different kind of pegasus, different-er kind of pegasus (who doubles as a mermaid), bug pony for boy toy potential. the only thing being excluded is earth ponies, which seems more like toy marketing than a social statement.
Earthies are the cheapest and easiest to produce, since the company does not need to make special moulds for horns, wings, seahorse/fish tail and slots.
You can see that regular equines always outnumber other species in any company that has ever made fantasy horses. And Hasbro loves to cheap out on MLP these days.

Maybe in the past. But these days toy fantasy horses are usually unicorns. Uni-verse, 5 Surprise Unicorns, and Poopsie all focus on unicorns and don't have any regular equines.

I guess it depends on the final designs we'll be getting. If they are all looking like the new ponies it'll just be fantasy ponies and that's ok with me. I guess my issue would be if all of the new species won't be considered ponies or looked drastically different (like the final form of the Changelings, they looked like deer).
Fun fact, the German dub of FiM kind of tried this with changing the species names a bit. Changelings were "Wechselponies", meaning "change ponies" but the name also implied them being related to "Wechselbalg" (our version of a changeling).
The Filly franchise did the different species thing pretty well, imo. They were all considered and looked like "Filly" but they were different tribes with different powers. Except they weren't all divided, they did trade with and visited each other. Finally, in the Filly Funtasia show they all go to a school together (sounds familiar, lol).
Before people think I want to poop on something I haven't even seen yet: no matter what the show will be, if the designs and art are nice I'll be into it ;)

Not with Schleich or Breyer, who are banking on normal horses but also fantasy horses and unicorns. They have a good mix. It'll depend on what Hasbro considers the bigger competition, I guess. MLP always had unicorns and now the market is saturated. Maybe that's why there are rumors about new species. Because I can't really pinpoint what other company makes bug ponies with antlers  But did kids really love the changelings? That's yet another question. And will parents buy ponies that look like vampires when the vampire craze is considered to be over?
These species seem risky to me. I don't see how parents would buy these instead of a regular colorful pony with glitter on its butt.
The new species do kinda seem risky but unicorns and pegasi are more popular than earth ponies. At least with the Mane 6 Rainbow Dash, Twilight, and Rarity seemed to sell better than Applejack and Pinkie.Ah, memories from my early FiM days: Pegasi were the most popular species for characters followed by Unicorns, and then Earth ponies. Even today it feels like a lot of kids seem to be attatched to Pegasi or Unicorns.

The reasons for this are fairly easy to see. Unicorns have magic. Pegasi fly. FiM didn't show enough traits of Earth ponies for most kids to want to create Earth characters or anything.
The rumors make it sound like all Earthlings will be AJ

i hope we get some more orange/green ponies this time around, at least. bumblesweet was one of my favorite designs from G4.

They were actually called that in G1.really? i had no idea! that's great.
Yes I'd love to see some green ponies of various shades! Mint green...lime green...grass green.
I wonder why green ponies don't sell? Are parents afraid they will get lost in the grass outside? Do people just not like green?
I would consider Lyra more on the aqua side of the green equation than "green"...
But G1 didn't seem to have problems selling green ponies :/ And G3 did have Minty among others. It may just be a G4 thing (but Sandbar is green isn't he?).

I think Lyra is absolutely within the blue green color family (if you look at a standardized color wheel).
If people lump yellow-green ponies as "green", then it's fair enough to consider blue-green ponies as green as well. Both of those are tertiary colors on a standard color wheel.
I think it's also hard to "talk" colors, because we all kind of see color a different way. Some of us see more colors then others, or culture can influence our interpretation.

Robb Cullen and Jose Ucha directed the upcoming installment with Mark Fattibene. Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis served as producers.I tried to find the directors past filmography and didn't see much of interest.
Where did you hear that tailrust? Any pics of these new ones yet?Pipp's Patent (https://uspto.report/TM/90546012)
interesting! i'm very curious about pipp- she's clearly not a regular pegasus, and the original post that leaked the names also mentioned that she was smaller. maybe she's the daughter of princess petals? i'm not trusting the rough draft posts either anymore lol.
kiiiinda disappointed about it looking like just a mane 5 with one boy. i'm predicting the toy line will be equal proportions of sunny/izzy/pipp, then a little less zipp, and then the occasional hitch toy.
As long as we get a butt ton of new ponies, whether they're toy only, or in the show that's fine.

For sure! I'm really hoping Hasbro don't repeat the mistake they made with G4 again with G5. We need variety!

Zipp's Patent (https://uspto.report/TM/90546054)

There are two for each, I just linked whichever one came up first. One is for toys, the other movies.
No pictures yet, just the leaked bedsheets with Pipp and the silly little Zipp one in the OP.
Zipp Storm? Why not something that sounds like an actual last name, like "Zipp Zapper"? I dunno, it would be a really nice name. Not biased or anything.
No other news yet. There's another rumor but this one is laughable.

1. That's a dumb movie title.
2. The release month is September according to the investor event.
3. There is a typo on the second director, Jose.
4. I'm pretty sure they never refer to it as the toy line "created by Bonnie Zacherle" internally. It would be Hasbro, if anything.
The synopsis is pulled from the ET article a few weeks back.
The title just makes me think about the ponies drinking wine.
I love the Sunny gun rumor! She's a horse!! How she gonna shoot. Her mouth? How she pick it up?? She got hooves...
I think after the names were revealed, people are more trusting of any information they see there...I posted about this one because I've seen a few people taking it as fact on Instagram where the Maya one seemed to fizzle out once we talked about the gun and stuff.
She will suddenly be possessed and then morph into the spirit of Quick Draw McGraw of course. Her cutie mark is a shooting star...of course!!

There’s a fan theory that FiM is a TV show in the G5 world. Seeing that screenshot again, that would make more sense for Sunny to be a fan rather than a pony who reveres old history or legends, given the posters, figures, pins, etc. she has of the mane6.
Idk, the book she’s looking at in the other screenshot with Izzy and the Pegasus guards looks pretty old though. Really hard to tell how long ago or what FiM is in G5 so far. I’m interested to find out.
Hopefully none of the mane suxx will appear as a force ghost to guide this group of plucky pals along the way.

That would be hilarious to me since G4 never liked to acknowledge death. I think it would be possible to see a flashback to the M6.
That actually reminds me of something I watched related to localization of Japanese Anime to other parts of the word (specifically North America). I have to find the video again but yeah I wouldn't put it past the G5 movie/show creators doesn't some stunt like thatHopefully none of the mane suxx will appear as a force ghost to guide this group of plucky pals along the way.

That's what I find kind of weird about children's entertainment these days, when I was a kid it wasn't unusual even for cartoons intended for little children to show at least some basic, symbolic deptiction of death like a ghost emerging from a tombstone at a cemetery, these days if something isn't rated at least PG they will always tread carefully around the topic, trying to be as indirect as possible.
Not sure how I feel about them using technology...I guess we can throw out any hope of it being any kind of fantasy pony world. Oh well.
I really like Zipp's design, too! Both ponies look good, even though I'm not a fan of the eyebrows. Can't wait to check out the animation.
Not sure how I feel about them using technology...I guess we can throw out any hope of it being any kind of fantasy pony world. Oh well.
Now I can't unsee the paintbrush head. XD Dang.
I didn't mean to imply that MLP has never employed technology in its animation in the past, just that it's kind of a clue to the tone this one will take, if that makes any sense. Looks like it will be more of a modern world, much like Tales (at least I assume--I'm not too familiar with Tales; I put it on for my son once while we had a week-long free trial of Starz, and only sorta watched out of the corner of my eye while I did some housework--most of what I know about it is from hearing you guys talk about it) rather than a medieval-type setting. (Medieval isn't the right word I'm looking for, either...darn brain cells are going awol after a week of no sleep!)
And oh, not a snooty pony again :(Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe we know anything about either of their personalities.
Absolutely LOVE Zipp, Pipp is quite adorable too- it looks like her wings are covered with clouds? They kind of remind me of Flutter Pony wings actually. And the tiara...I wonder if she's a princess of some sort?I recall someone finding the toy information or some sort of information. Pipp is supposed to be something akin to a popstar, so something like the Princess of Pop so to speak.
Not super keen on the phone, I expected this generation to be more modern but not THAT modern lol. The hoof-shaped Popsocket on the back of the phone is hilarious though.
Still really not interested in the toys, but the animation and character designs look exceptional- if not still a little too human, imo. Get rid of the eyebrows pls
pffffhaha, the gun one XD I love silly fan rumours.
...but her wings look kinda "thin"...
Ahh please tell me Pipp still has her lovely brown eyes? It's a little hard to tell... Those leaked plush had me really worried but I was hoping they were factory rejects...
Not sure how I feel about them using technology...I guess we can throw out any hope of it being any kind of fantasy pony world. Oh well. Not necessarily, because you can combine fantasy with technology. Not saying that this is what they're going to do, but I've always felt that they blend together well, mostly because my first and second favorite Final Fantasy games were pretty modern and used technology, but still had the fantasy element, so technology never took away from fantasy to me.
I think Pipp looks cute. I’m not digging Zipp’s hairstyle much.I know in the first debut of Sunny I could see her symbol. It was really hard to see though because of where it was. I don't think they will have them on both sides of the pony though (despite the plushies having them on both sides).
I am curious about them not having cutie marks in any of the screenshots or animations, if they’ll get them in the movie or if those were just left out of the promos.
We have animation for Zipp Storm and Pipp Petals! It's on the MLP instagram, but I reuploaded it onto Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4514P5Emtxo) for IG-less folk.

The G5MLP wiki is up to date now with new renders. I also extracted some backgrounds, not sure how much interest there is for that.
:nope: I wish they'd quit with the front angles.
I’m just imagining the movie, and all the ponies creepily facing forward through the entire thing because that’s all they designed for :yikes:

I like the wings much better here, but yeah, they really do look different to the other pics? rather than just being "the same but at a different angle"... if that makes sense...
Their faces are so uncanny >_< Especially Pipp's, idk what it is about her right eye but it's super creepy...
Movie title is "My Little Pony: Pony Tale" according to a post made by Malaysian Netflix on their Twitter about upcoming films.

He's been described as a Sheriff on the latest reel. If he's a cop, I at least want him to be a cowboy cop.
Nah forget that previous title, Boulder says its My Little Pony: A New Generation now.
I don't like it because it implies a sameness to the g4/FiM world...basically just a continuation of that with new characters. I mean, it's something we all suspected all along, but the confirmation is a let-down. I was hoping for something completely new and exciting. Guess Hasbro didn't want to let go of that sweet FiM money.

I'm fine with the show being like FiM... I just wish that they had gone with a different design for the characters. We pretty much got by far the worst from the ones that were leaked. I just don't much care for it.
There were so many neat designs in the leak, but alas we get the one that I cringed at.

I just never understood why "everypony" was a thing in the first place. "Everyone", "everybody", HOW are those words human-specific?!? Ponies have bodies!! It just sounds so weird and forced to me, it's unnecessary. I'm annoyed to see it show up in this gen, too.

I honestly agree. It was cute at first, but then it quickly got into weird territory with the School of Friendship arc and how they kept using "everycreature" to refer to non-pony creatures. That honestly made me cringe a little. Just say everybody, dangit!
This was posted in the book listings, gives a bit more info on the plot...not sure if anyone else posted it? Here goes:SpoilerThe pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. (GASP!) Friendship & Harmony have been replaced by paranoia & mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Sunny – a feisty and idealistic young Earth Pony – is convinced there’s still hope for this divided world… however, when she befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, who wanders innocently into the Earth Pony town of Maretime Bay, the town has had enough. Izzy and Sunny must embark on an epic adventure that will take them to faraway lands and force them to challenge the status quo by facing their fears and making new friends out of old enemies. The world Sunny has dreamed of her entire life could finally become a reality as Sunny and her newfound friends fight to prove that even LITTLE ponies can make a BIG difference.

Man I can't tell if this is the same paragraph they used just about everywhere else or if it's just eerily similar to it. I definitely feel like I've read some of those sentences word for word multiple times already but not all of them...?
Those necks in some of the illustrations are throwing me off.
Llamas? ponies  I do like where this is going so thumbs up to the newest generation.
Alan Shumuckler and Michael Maher appear to be our newly listed composers for the new film. EQD discovered this after Alan's credit website was submitted, where he is cited as being behind the music and lyric production for "My Little Pony 2" (Netflix/Hasbro)i hope we get something silly :P

The movie title isn't updated there yet, I've seen "A New Generation" used pretty much everywhere else now.

On a sidenote, the duplicate wikis for G5 got redirected to my wiki since Fandom's policy is "no duplicates". It should be easier for people to find information and stay up to date now.
Isn't James Marsden the dude who played Cyclops?

I can say I definitely didn't expect most of these! I was a little apprehensive at some names but seeing the characters in the video with the voices isn't so bad. Really happy to have some new footage, a date, and the final title!

Also why aren't we seeing this logo used on the G5 toys and merchandise considering we now can see that they did in fact, create a new logo?
I just noticed Alphabittle's beard. I hate it LOL.... horses shouldn't have facial hair imo. It looks odd.

If it was written by people involved in G4, I think there's a good chance of the direction G5 is going to be going in. I guess we'll see though...
Apparently Imalou, who also designed Sunny and Izzy, did Sprout's design. They said on twitter the eyebrows were done like Hitch's on purpose :lookround:
Argyle's medallion there looks like Twilight's cutie mark. Also, why does he not seem to have a cutie mark of his own?His mark may be on the unseen side... from what I have noticed is that sometimes the marks seem to switch sides in the promotional stuff

Oohh I missed that - maybe that's why his full name is "Argyle Starshine"? Like how we had Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, etc? Argyle Starshine doesn't exactly fit the pattern, but it's somewhat reminiscent of those names, I suppose.

Wouldn't it be Starscout then?
Naming schemes in FiM between the parents and kids didn't always match... Remember Twilight's brother is Shining Armor but she is called Twilight Sparkle... neither of the parents have those last names (Twilight Velvet, who I believe had a blind bag version of herself, and Night Light, who I believe was given that name by the fandom due to looking similar to Nachtlicht from the G1 toys)Argyle's medallion there looks like Twilight's cutie mark. According to a new set of blindbags I posted in the toy thread, his name is actually Argyle Starshine, which is really weird! Maybe Sunny's last name is a mix of both parents, though Argyle appears to be a single father
The apples didn't have the same last names either. The Cakes were the only ones I recall who actually had the same 2nd word name.
There is a lot of oddball naming in the FiM series due to some ponies not having duo names either.

I'm not impressed with any of the designs so far. Everything about Alpahbittle seems wrong to me. The name, the design , the fact that he has facial hair...
Ponyfan
I guess I'm in the minority here, because I really like the dads' designs XD I think it's because of certain fan artists like Lopoddity and Earthsong9405 on DA, who use that exact type of sideburns as shorthand for "dad pony". Alphabittle in particular looks like he walked straight off of Lopoddity's page (well ok, except for the stubby nose )

Logan Berrytown.
*Logan Barrington.
In fairness this name doesn't count because Logan doesn't exist as a toy, just as an animation character.
Whereas the G5 names are the names of the actual main cast. Which is a bit awkward.
I think the one that particularly bothers me is Sprout but I can't explain why.
I hope there are no nods to G1. I'd rather G4 hadn't mined G1 so much for material either, tbh. As nice as it is to have acknowledgement, the way they do it is generally bothersome...

Those new pictures are so cute! ^.^ Sunny is adooorable. And I like her dad's ponytail. And Hitch's little animal friends!I think it’s supposed to be referencing Jaws if that helps.
Is that movie poster in the background "HORNS" depicting an evil aquatic unicorn attacking from the deep??? Or maybe not... It's not in focus and I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what it is.

The Jaws parody is... odd... What's a unicorn doing underwater?!
The Jaws parody is... odd... What's a unicorn doing underwater?!
I figured it was a JAWS reference but a unicorn underwater... Well I wasn't sure that's what it really was. If so, that and what is being guessed about Canter Logic (some kind of extreme political radio/tv show?) paints a grim picture of the society's ability to tolerate nonconformity. Maybe it's meant to be more light hearted and just played for laughs but wow it seems dark. I wonder if this generation IS meant for a slightly older audience... It is rated PG... What was G4s show/movies rated?
At first I was really just interested in the new toys but now I'm very curious to see the movie.
Guess I'm the odd one out, but I think the HORNS movie poster is hilarious  Also loving the Harry Potter (I can't see what they're calling it) parody next to it as well!

you'd think it'd be a sea pony or merpony, instead of a unicorn. Weak forced joke, is lame.

Some images have been leaked from an upcoming "I Can Read" picture book coming out at the end of the month. Nothing really spoiler-y, but new screenshots from the movie are included. Some cute stuff too!
They could have gone for a Dr Whooves poster as well. How they managed to overlook that obvious pun is beyond me, hehe. The brony fandom would have exploded.
It’s hereBasically G3 but "What if everyone jumps to conclusions?"

Agreed on the re-use of the same character tropes, but that is hardly a surprise.
I’m actually getting really excited for this movie! The trailer looks cute and I’m actually really impressed with the animation. I’m not a huge fan of CGI in general, but idk I’m digging the style of this movie so far. My only complaint is right now the voices are throwing me off. The ponies look so young, hearing fully grown adult voices coming out of their mouths is weirding me out.
Spoilers regarding the book leak under the cutSpoilerI actually did NOT see Sprout being the big villain coming. I definitely thought he might play a bully role, but not the big bad guy. I mean….I’m still convinced Phylis will play some sort villain role too. Aren’t these her glasses on the big ominous building?

You’re telling me that whatever this big tech company or whatever it is is totally okay?? It looks like such a villain tower! I still think there’s something the book left out here.
I really think it's not that there's anything wrong with G5 exactly, just that it's not especially new somehow? Like it feels tired before it's begun because of those sameish characters, sameish humour lines, etc...?
Someone on tumblr got their hands on one of the g5 books, and it reveals the entire film with screenshots in the span of 32 pages. Just be warned if your out there looking at things online!

Just realized something about the villain...SpoilerThe Sprout thing reminds me of Hans from Frozen. Remember when Frozen first was advertised, before it actually came out, the trailers and posters all included Hans along with Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff? They wanted us to think it was a movie about two princesses and two male love interests, to keep the twist of the villain as a surprise.
That reminds me of the advertising we've seen so far for G5. Sprout is always shown along with the other characters and he has the same smiling expression of all of them. His design is about the same of any of the ponies. There's really nothing to indicate he's a villain, even the toy we've seen makes him look no different than Hitch.
I don't know if him being the antagonist is supposed to be a twist, so to speak, but I think it's interesting how they represented him in advertising compared to his role in the movie.

Sister and I were talking about this earlier and both agreeing that it would be nice to see a blue pony with red hair. Naynie always liked them as a kid, but it dawned on me that that colour scheme completely skipped G4. The closest is Snowcatcher I think?? So it would have been nice to see that.Personally I'd love a whole rainbow of colours in my Ponyworld, & green has always been a rare colour
I would also love to see proper yellows and greens as well.
If Hasbro believe girls don't like these colours, they're misguided.

Even though I wasn't expecting much from this trailer I was disappointed with the scene where Izzy was tying to balance the can on her horn and dropped it. It seemed that she was just a new version of Pinkie Pie in that moment.
Then she talks to herself...ah the trailer makes me more curious about her character most of all.I just saw Izzy as Pinkie Pie 2.0 and Zipp as Rainbow Dash 2.0.

Hopefully wrong on the second, not overly hopeful of being wrong on the first though.
I don't think Izzy is going to be as bad as Pinkie Pie in personality. They over did it with Pinkie. Then she talks to herself...ah the trailer makes me more curious about her character most of all.I just saw Izzy as Pinkie Pie 2.0 and Zipp as Rainbow Dash 2.0.

To be honest I'm not really interested in comparisons of G5 characterizations to G4 characterizations. I didn't watch much of FiM.

I don't think she was trying to balance the can on her horn, I think she was showing how she could open a can with her horn. I was a bit confused the first time I watched it, too, but after a few rewatches I think that is what was happening. Not sure why she then drops it on the ground, though, maybe that part is an accident?

Bekuno, someone in the G5 Wiki server has archived the one book on Imgur (https://imgur.com/a/Mk0y0qG)!
I just heard an ad for the new movie on the radio tonight! First time I've ever heard any MLP ad on the radio, and it was at about 10pm...interesting. I only caught the second half of the ad so I'm wondering if they played the new song beforehand! I also wonder if this will be the credits song for the movie.

Maybe I’m stupid, but does anyone else think the lyrics to the songs don’t make a lot of sense? Seems like they just strung together random words that sounded good together, particularly in the chorus. The lines in the verses are better IMO. (I’m not super well versed in music terminology, I hope I got those right! :P )I'm gonna have to agree. It comes off as a little disjointed at times but I did enjoy the song overall and think that it'll be a good finale. :ohyeah:
It is undeniably catchy though! A little generic for my tastes, but it matches the tone of a lot of other animated movies pop end songs. It sounds like it would fit in well as a celebration concert after they get their magic back. :)

Wow apparently I'm in the minority but that song made me want to throw up. :X
It's not just that it has nothing to do with anything about MLP, not just that the lyrics make no sense, but it just sounds horrible. Reminds me of that Pony Life commercial where the ponies were singing "Feelin' good as hell!" Just doesn't match the MLP brand.
At least when they made a pop song for Sia to sing for the FiM movie, they actually wove it into the plot of the movie and it connected to what Twilight was feeling as the main plot arc of the movie.

I thought this, but then I kind of put it down to being a kid's show. I think it'd be asking too much of it to expect it to be high quality lyric or music, it's there to do a job, not steal the limelight. Probably the biggest job is to get into the heads of kids, honestly.
Although I might also be inured to this because some of the lyrics that pop up in anime theme songs are entirely nonsensical (in part because they're shoving English words into Japanese sentences that render both meaningless).
So yeah. I noticed that the song had absolutely no meaning, but is that really something unusual?
Thinking about it, and being brutally honest, does "something is starting, right now, something is starting, oh wow" mean a lot more?
“We knew that we wanted to have an eclectic range of genres in the songs,” says Cullen. “We wanted to mix things up a bit and set out to make this as unpredictable as we can because some people might go into the movie with preconceived ideas. No one would expect a punk rock, Nirvana-esque song in this movie”
To be fair, I dissagree that a lot of songs today have meaningless lyrics - they do have meaning, it's just that "we" haven't found them yet. I've seen a lot of songs, including today's music being "accused" of having no meaning when they actually do - a song wouldn't be given a lyric if there wasn't some reason for it being there, at least usually (I'm not saying there aren't moments where the singer/writer would openly admit "I don't know what that part means", but that's been going on for years - it's not a "today's songs" thing by a long shot.)
A lot of songs that are made today have meaningless lyrics. That doesn't make them bad songs or unsuccessful. It's just more the norm to fill a song with cliche lines or random words that they want to make 'cool'. So I kind of see this song in that vein.

Language changes over time. English didn't even have standardised spellings until relatively recently.
I went back to the singing Izzy pic on my phone and she sings "Fit Right In" so we have at least 2 songs in some format from the movie. I get the feeling " Glowing Up" might be an end credits song.Let me check the Wiki, we have a few more songs than that so fa (https://g5mlp.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Songs)r...
Then you think of all the people who end up downloading/humming/singing anime themes or kpop songs or whatever without speaking the language that the song is in. They're not caring so much what the words are, necessarily. They're caring about the fact the song is eating their brain. The songs may have great lyrics, but if you don't speak the language, that becomes a bit less important.

Have you been looking at my anime song playlist? :D I have so many songs on there where I can't understand a single word except for the English lines but I fell in love with the song anyway.
I've been passively watching this develop from a distance for a while, but movies just are not that interesting to me! Do you guys think this movie is them testing the waters for a proper show or is it just a one-off?

Somebody posted a video of the "Gonna Be My Day" song the alicorn Sunny toy sings. I like this song better than the other two revealed so far, but it's hard to make a judgement due to the toy's sound quality and the fact that it's only a short clip.

I wonder when the actual soundtrack will come out? Will it be before the movie? I have so many good memories of falls during 2014-2017 getting super hyped whenever the soundtrack to the latest MLP/EQG movie dropped and listening to it exclusively for like a week.
It was always fun when a FiM song got leaked early and everyone tried to determine what the plot of the episode may be, and how the song tied in. :)Like "Smile" - I remember that being leaked fairly early and the bronies at least were trying to guess when it would be used, with some apparently fearing that it was never going to be used (it was definitely worth the wait, in my opinion. :good:)

There's bound to be a reason for this fear. It didn't spring from nowhere. Perhaps a war that maybe only the oldest members of all societies were present for, that forced a separation between species?

I'm very curious about this, too! As a cynical adult, I'm struggling to think of a kid-friendly explanation... But I'm sure there is one... Right...?
I think you guys are putting too much thought into the plot. I get the feeling that this movie is aimed at younger kids compared to the demographic for FiM, which was for a bit older kids and had more complex stories.
I think all the pony species split up and live separately now solely because they wanted a "main character brings everyone together" plotline, and in FiM they put enough emphasis on the three different types of ponies that it was logical for a movie follow-up to treat them as entirely different species that live apart.
I would be surprised if we even get a thoughtful explanation on why it happened. If anything, I'll bet it's going to be similar to the FiM Harthswarming Eve episode, where it happened because the three species began arguing and not working together, and then it just got worse.
SpoilerHitch brought a crab and seagulls to his job where he is maintaining order at an event for...possibly-fascist-themed wearable technology. Not a sentence I expected to ever type until very recently!

While that's certainly the case for the movie's plot, if this turns into a full fledged show they'll have to come up with deeper storylines eventually. It might get fleshed out later on; there's only so much you can do with slice of life. The massive time jump allows for all kinds of yet to explore opportunities.
BTW, am I imagining it or is there not a tale somewhere in FIM of unicorns, earths and pegasi being segregated and ponies being mutually suspicious? Did I dream that or did it happen? Bear in mind I've only seen some of FIM and no episode more than once, so I may just be inventing this. But it just feels like this theme is really...familiar...to Equestria somehow. No, you're right. In the Hearth's Warming Eve episode, the Windigos arise from the animosity and quarreling between the Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies and the "Fire of Friendship" drives them off.

If this is the case, it's a little more worrying that they're delving into deeper issues in a superficial kind of a way. Again that running away from the different kid scene is exactly the kind of thing that could happen to a kid in the playground - the fact Izzy thinks it's funny/is ok with it means kids might think it's funny, rather than conveying a deeper message.

PG is nothing, especially these days. There are plenty of kid's films that have been PG for ages.

Well even back then, it wasn't a big deal. You could argue that some of Don Bluth's oldest films like Land Before Time, All Dogs Go to Heaven and Secret of NIMH would be more worthy of a PG rating in this day and age due to frightening imagery, animal experimentation, smoking, drinking, and character deaths. (And helicopter parents.)
Kids today play GTA and watch violent, gory anime. Not that we were much better with our JAWS, and Mortal Kombat and Terminator.
I'd like to see the G1 reference.
Got the feeling that a big part of the plot was formed while they were still considering using the revamped mane 6 concepts with swapped species. What happened to Sunny at the end would've made a lot of sense for an earth pony Twilight. And it's interesting the unicorns live in a very nature-based society in a forest, since concept Fluttershy was a unicorn. Izzy's introductory scene would probably also have been funnier if it was a pony with Fluttershy's personality.Huh, you're right. I guess I didn't notice because the new cast is so mellow compared to the mane 6. Like Izzy actually has some emotional awareness, so there's no way she could be Pinkie Pie! but I REALLY like Zipp as a more humble version of Rainbow Dash, she's kinda like Firefly in that way.

I assume that the only reason G3 and G4 had them on both sides in the cartoon was so there wouldn't be animation errors with ponies having them on the wrong side. Now that they've moved to CG those kind of errors wouldn't occur anymore so that can finally have the animation match the toys?
Ohhhh that actually makes a heck of a lot of sense! Wow, good thinking!
Still, the cutie marks are barely there, they're small and don't have a solid outline or anything to make them stand out from the body color of the pony. I still say it would have made more sense if...SpoilerThey should have just left the cutie marks off altogether and then they could have magically appeared when the magic returned to the land at the climax. Then Earth ponies could have gotten something too, along with the flight for the pegasi and the magic for the unicorns.

I am liking this generation so much more than G4. This movie sold me, for real. I got *so* tired of Pinkie Pie in G4 after a while, but I feel like a few years of Izzy will be great if they keep her the way she was in the movie and don't give her more energy. I was also impressed with how much I enjoyed Zipp.SpoilerAnd honestly, I found myself enjoying the villain, too LOL. He was just...so ridiculous, I loved it. I also enjoyed the music so much more than the G4 music. I thought I'd get sick of the pop songs, but I found myself listening to them over and over. Even "Glowin' Up", which I didn't like at first. But man that is an ear worm for me. However, "Fit Right In" is my jam! That scene is so perfect in my eyes. When Izzy, Sunny, and Pipp start dancing together, I melted. I think my only "gripe" is that I wish it was just a *little* bit longer? I wanted to learn more about Pipp, since she ended up being kinda the least focused pony in the movie. Not sure why she's getting all the merch when Zipp is the main pegasus, but I guess "pink pop pony sells". I hope we learn more about the other ponies in the movie, too. I *really* wanna learn about Queen Haven. She fascinates me. I'd also love to see some flashbacks of Izzy finding that letter that Sunny set as a filly. It was a ridiculous coincidence, but even so, my heart melted. Ugh I just loved the movie so much and I can't wait to see more of those ponies![/spoilers]
watched the movie absolutely loved it. I'm soppy, I cried all the way through.
izzy is perfect, I love her. I was worried about Zipp being RD 2.0, but she's got some depth to her personality compared, imo. ack. I want to watch it again. i just wish the pics of Zipp for toy packaging etc wasn't the most smug face. it doesn't suit the character that well ^^'
Leave a Whisper -Spoilerwe've always had unicorn royalty tho? I mean, Majesty in g1... but. I agree, I also hope it's not permanent tbh. it would be unnecessary. We'll see what the series says. maybe it'll just be a special magic power for certain occasions?
Also, I take it as "not as big of a deal" since noone went 'omg sunny you have WINGS' . + majority so far of Sunny toys are earth ponies, bar the RC rollerskating one. but yeah. guess we'll see what happens with that ^^'
I watched it finally! I liked it a lot more than I expected, I ended up SOBBING a few times lol. I love Izzy!!!SpoilerAlso the ending REALLY threw me because I bought and read the little children's book for the movie and it's NOT the same ending! They really knew what they were doing with that lol
SpoilerI'm really curious, how did they do the ending in the book?
Did Green Guard ever get a name and symbol?
Did Green Guard ever get a name and symbol?
I can't remember if I saw a cutie mark on him, but his name is Thunder!

I meant the earth ponies and pegasus as well. I'd like to see magical royalty distributed across all known species, is all I'm saying. Not just unipegs and the occasional unicorn.
SpoilerMostly I just have questions. Like, Maretime Bay and Zypher Heights were both shown to be technologically advanced, even with smartphones and TV's. And yet the unicorns that live in the woods have no technology? Even their "video games" are shown to be made of wood and powered by animals on a treadmill? (An old cartoon cliche.) Why such a separation? What is the purpose, story-wise, for the unicorns to be living like fantasy-style cavemen, basically?
Ok, I'm caught up :) But gonna spoiler tag. This post will probably be long within the tags.My answer to something quoted aboveSpoiler
Whoever knew Mayonnaise was so dastardly.
I admit, I am not huge about the G4 references but they didn't overdo that part of it, which was nice. I was kind of resigned that we weren't going to escape that kind of connection between G4 and G5, we have to remember there was no connection between any previous gens so this is actually a new thing. I don't really want Sunny playing with G4 models or whatever, but if that's the extent of it, then fine.
I was kind of amused at evil Rarity at the start. I was like, oh look, an accurate representation of the bronyverse. (Which is an observation I should probably recant given my other observation below but w/e).
So I'll say it here as well. The characters are not as much like the ones from G4 as the trailer implied. They do have some common traits but somehow it's tamed down? So Izzy is a bit happy-go-lucky but she's not Pinkie Pie annoying. (Does Izzy live in Twilight Sparkle's house by the way??). I think someone else mentioned it really nicely about how the M6 had basically one mode each...these guys do seem more mature...also more balanced. Which suggests either better character creation or probably better writing at the base.
There are gaps. There are things that you want more explanation on. There's the song about being friends literally ten seconds after Sunny and Izzy meet, and I can't even remember when Izzy tells Sunny her name, I must've missed it...but it's a film, not a series. A series of eps building up the whole reunification of the different ponies would maybe have fleshed those things out more but I get why they did it this way.
The Angry Mob song is hilarious. I shouldn't say that, but it is. Sprout is insufferable; I don't like that he didn't get punished for his actions at the end. He just knocked Sunny's house down and his Mum is avoiding telling him off? That's a weakness G4 also had, the lack of consequences for the 'bad guys' because of the need to become friends. So I think he really needed to be there rebuilding Sunny's house or something. That would've worked.
We didn't get an explanation of what happened to Sunny's Dad. I want to know. Did he experiment one too many times? Do some research that went wrong? Go on a long journey and never come back? It's also interesting given how G4 was shy of themes like death re AJ.
In context with the rest of the story, Izzy turning up and all the ponies running away is less obnoxious than it was in the trailer. It felt less harmful within the actual plot, with the general overreactions all over the shop.
I actually like Izzy a lot more than I thought I would. I could talk a lot more about this but the fact she isn't caught up in the unicorn superstitions, isn't like them in the slightest, and is known by them but doesn't have friends among them so goes to the Earth pony town to find friends...all of those things kind of stood out to me. In that context her reaction in the Earth pony town was also kind of logical.
I never thought of flying as needing magic. I found that weird; to me it's physiological. I also think there's a big missing point that wasn't resolved, about giving magic to the enemies. Since the magic is 'friendship', but the unicorns got magic and the pegasi got to fly, and Sunny maybe got magic - at least temporarily...what did the earth ponies get? I had hoped that might be more holistically like the old comics, where earth ponies could also have magic, but I guess that was too much of a hope. I think that needed to be dealt with somehow. If there's a series, maybe it will be, but I'm not sure what the series will be about.
The ending with Sunny being an alicorn - let's hope that's a one off, or like the Equestria Girls when they get their wings and tails. I did notice the rainbow swirls in her hair though. Isn't that a toy release?
I'm still not huge on their face shapes and that's for the toys as well which is a shame. But even despite that I think Izzy carries off the look best. What I will say is they are super expressive with their features, including the ears...which I didn't expect.SpoilerIt was touched on breifly in G4 the pegasai need magic to fly when teirak stole thier magic and they couldn't fly. Was never explained fully I don't think
Movie was ok, my biggest gripes were I hated all the music and the film shot cuts hurt, they were so abruptly bad.
I really don't feel like this plot or these characters can carry themselves into extended media. But I guess we'll see.
I also feel like climate/environment is/should be a theme, as it's so current. I know Tales did this too. We haven't learned much, not even with Captain Planet (and the Smoggies) having existed O.O. but it doesn't hurt to try it again.
Oh okay now THAT makes sense! I can agree with that reaction.
I wasn't equating character depth with being relatable and understandable, so I've been confused. ^^; But I can see what you mean!
The irony is for me that the best character in G4 in terms of the friendship narrative is Sunset Shimmer. And the EQG movies may all basically have the same overriding plot of using magic to defeat some possessed being, but in terms of the ideas around friendship...I think Eqg has a much better grasp on it BECAUSE of Sunset Shimmer than the FIM series does. Sunset starts off as a bad guy and ends up as a mentor, but her doubts and her past are always still potentialy there at the fringes. Making her an empath was also a great choice given those things. The M6 are also better balanced because they have her to play off and it forces them to be more involved and actually feel more like friends (more or less). The EQG world Twilight is also better written for the same reasons - she has Sunset to play off but her battle with herself and her doubts and so on is more real somehow than anything I ever saw in FIM. The M6 seem to preach to other people about friendship a lot but don't seem (in the episodes I've seen) to really take the information on board themselves or apply it in a way that makes sense between them. Even in 1 h 30 the G5 group felt more like an actual band of new friends than the M6 has ever done for me :/.
@Minty Magic, I'm trying to remember from the G2 comics (which I mostly no longer have) whether the G2 ponies had a lot of magic, but I think they did have some. But MLP tales also did not have magic and referenced in at least one episode an incident that was pseudomediaeval with a knight (Squire) and a dragon...which sounds a lot more like old G1.
I'm not sure about G3.
Has anyone seen this I'm sooo Angry what do you THink about it? Or should I start a new topic... this is about media and G5.

No no you have to read the headline that's inside the article. Maybe I should make a new topic?
Headline inside articleSpoilerFox News recently ran a story with a headline declaring My Little Pony had "gone woke," because the new film in the popular franchise makes "an apparent effort to send a message to kids about empowerment, unity and reform."
Taffeta & PonybookwormSpoilerYes I understand using Politics in cartoons... I'm not mad about that, but the motto that they took away from mlp Netflix movie was so far off that I just don't agree even if i do watch fox news I'm offended. Mlp is my life you guys are like family and they just mad me upset by saying the motto of the movie is empowerment unity & reform. That's not why I love MLP's... to empower? That's not Hasbro's goal.
Thanks SunPony! ^.^
FYI I'm not mad at anyone here, I'm not mad at all, I'm more offended... mad is too harsh.. but anyways its frustrating eaither way.

G3 didn't really have any magic to speak of, in the backcards, storybooks, and the animated media. Star Catcher is one of the characters with the most magical presence, being able to grant "wishes", but all she has are a bunch of butterflies that follow her around.
In "Dancing in the Clouds", Skywishes wishes for dance ideas for the friendship ball, Star Catcher comes out with her butterflies. The butterflies carry Skywishes around, which gives her the idea to bring them to the Friendship Ball to use for the dance. Star Catcher plays "Fairy Godmother" in a couple books, one of which her butterflies bring Twinkle Twirl a dress, and the other... I think she brings Skywishes a dress too. There's nothing MAGICAL about her, really. But she's kind of the "wish granter" and could be perceived as "magical".
However, there's a rainbow waterfall that acts as a portal between Ponyville and Butterfly Island. That's kind of magical, right?
Magic didn't come to G3 until "The Runaway Rainbow", but even then, the unicorns didn't have any powers except for the appointed "rainbow makers". Even THEN it seems to be a time-sensitive thing, and they can't make a rainbow without Rarity. Which, Rarity might be the only magic user in all of G3, relying on a magic wand that can teleport her, create rainbows, etc. She doesn't really use this until the end of the movie so (imo) she's not as "magical" as Star Catcher despite actually having magic. :P
Spike in "The Princess Promenade" slept for a thousand years so he could give a special flower to a pony and crown her Princess. Nothing magical about him, nor the flower.
Maybe there are some other smaller things but generally speaking, G3 was very... normal. :P
I would just like to state for the record that my absolute favorite line from the songs is when Hitch sings "if we fail we'll go to prison!" It cracks me up every time.

Which song was that from? I don't remember hearing that in the songs, but now I want to hear it if it is that good.
Also...your response seems...condescending? I was just giving my opinion and you are saying it is wrong? It was just an opinion, I wasn't saying it should be everyone's favorite line, or that it was objectively the best line from one of the songs. It is a subjective thing, in my mind, everyone can have their own favorite song lyric! I guess you were going for hyperbole or something but it felt a little condescending, tbh. Am I allowed to say this here? :(

She was just being ironic because "mayonnaise" is the forced meme from the movie. Tone on the internet and all. Or is she not allowed to crack a joke? :(
I think it's obvious it's a joke comment, trying to lighten the thread from the previous darker, now segregated topic.
The reality is that I posted it at 2am, didn't see the word song in the post, and that's all. My eyes skip on screen sometimes and I don't always see every word, especially when I'm tired. I just made a mistake and misread it. No big drama.
It would've been fair enough to call me out on that mistake, to which I hold up my hands, but anything beyond that is ridiculous and frankly, a bit rude.
It's a shame that it's apparently no longer possible to have light-hearted banter on pony discussion threads.
This is why tone indicators are important y'all. They started on the infernal Tok but are really useful everywhere online. I see them all the time on insta.

I want the ladybird :D So cute :)
I seriously have lots of thoughts on Izzy, but the idea of her being into bugs is a nice one, since there's that annoying stereotype that girls are meant to not like bugs...
Perhaps more importantly, though, it feels like threads from the m6 archetypes are being plucked out and reorganised to flesh out these characters a bit more.
Doesn't look like CG to me on the netflix animation style...unless that's experimental.

There's nothing wrong with girls being afraid of bugs, I just think it's nice to not promote that as an expectation.
There was a lovely bit of film over here with David Attenborough and Princess Charlotte - I forget how old she was - asking if he liked spiders, because she liked them. It's not that phobias of bugs are necessarily caused by media presentations of them...but it's nice for girls to know it's okay to like bugs :)
I'm honestly worn out on the subject of tone, identifiers or whatever. To be honest, what would be nicer would be people not jumping to conclusions, especially for no reason. It's fine to ask questions, or seek clarity, that's how you come to understand other points of view. But I don't feel like the tags are very helpful in the main to neurodivergent communicators in particular, even though I know some really love them. They seem to be ways to avoid using actual words, sentences and such.
In any case, let's leave that subject alone and go back to the G5 stuff.

Well, that's one form of promotion o.O

I really love spiders, so I loved that she asked that. It'd be cool to have Izzy have a spider friend...
It's not that it's a problem for people to be scared of bugs to be scared of bugs, but you know, to encourage those who aren't scared of bugs to be more confident in it, that would be great.
I'd also love to see more love for plants, because people don't treat them very well, but if we're going to save the environment, we really need to be nicer to our trees.

Not fear, & I'm fine with the majority of them outside, but in the house it's spiders only. Other bugs can get out or die

Ah, yes, as a neurodivergent individual I do sometimes find it hard to interpret tone from text communication! I interpreted that comment as something like "your favorite is wrong" but I guess it was intended otherwise  Sometimes I have trouble in real life social interactions, too, but in real life at least there are other cues i can try to use, like body language, so I'm usually okay especially if it is someone I know well...with strangers is another story...especially if they want eye contact...I can get overwhelmed. I'm really lucky to have a BFF who is a psychologist  Anyway, the little things at the end of posts like /s for sarcasm and such, like in Wardah's article are super helpful to people like me! Or when people use the little smiley faces. I love the faces. Or even varied punctuation. I do try to use the smiley faces myself a lot of the time. Hopefully others find it useful, or at least acceptable and not annoying.Smileys work great as tone indicators! Case in point:
A question I have for people who have seen the whole movie: Alphabittle seems to be the only pony with a dramatically different body shape compared to the others. Is that true throughout the cast of the movie? I've really only seen the song scenes and the trailer, I think. Is this addressed in any way? He also has that grayscale color scheme. I'm just curious if his body being the way it is has any significance. He intrigues me as a character.
I don't know. The Unicorn place makes me conflicted, as I feel like there's a lot more going on there but we're never going to know about it because they already moved past explaining it.Remember there's a cartoon coming up. I feel like there's a lot of minor stuff like that they didn't explain because they're going to deal with it in the show (or
Like Izzy's background as well. Why is she different and why doesn't she have any unicorn friends?

I would like a ritual burning of the term everypony. We didn't need it for 20 years. We don't need it now. Basically.
It just sounds massively patronising and (especially in G4), kind of exclusive considering that there were a lot of non-pony species. I don't know if that will happen in G5, so it may not matter, but it still needs to go.
I would like a ritual burning of the term everypony. We didn't need it for 20 years. We don't need it now. Basically.I personally like it as an alternative, and out of nostalgia (but respect those who don't), but I don't like it as a replacement - I'm actually going to try to make it seem like an alternative in my project, as it never made sense as a replacment (ponies have bodies, and can be one pony - there was nothing human about saying "everybody" or "everyone".)
"everypony" instead of "everybody" is bad but "everycreature" is worse to me. When FIM started the story line about the School of Friendship they started using that when talking to animals that aren't ponies.
Ponyfan
I've said it before, I'll say it again, I just don't get WHY "everypony" exists in the first place. Everybody, everyone, how are those "human-specific" terms??? We don't say "everyhuman"!!! It just sounds so stupid and forced.
"Everycreature", oh my god... gotta hand it to them, I never thought they could get worse than "everypony", but there you have it. x)
When I have to go back to the office I’m going to address my team as “Hey Everycreature!!” And just see how bad that goes over.
Everypony was silly, but it never bothered me much one way or the other. Everycreature though was just stupid. At some point you’ve got to admit your cutesy little word games aren’t working anymore and go back to everyday terms. As it’s already been pointed out, they all have bodies….that’s not like, and exclusively human thing.

So yeah, it should have been an alternative in my opinion. I also didn't like hater-bronies made a song and dance about "everybody" being said on previous generations, when they (presumably) didn't butter their eyes at it being said on G4.
Yeah, I think those type of bronies just need any excuse to make pre-G4 look inferior, regardless of whether it does or not, and regardless of whether G4 itself did it or not. It is silly however we look at it, and whatever our views on "everypony" is (it's just hating things over nothing for the sake of it, I guess.)I would like a ritual burning of the term everypony. We didn't need it for 20 years. We don't need it now. In fairness, that kind of bronies have so little legitimacy when talking about anything pony that this doesn't surprise me. But imagine how inadequate you have to be to mock an actual word in general use in the English language because you're that insecure about your fandom space? It's really just bizarre, and totally separate from whether everypony is stupid.
The irony is that everybody is one of those words in English that is already inclusive, doesn't need amending because it refers only to one gender, doesn't need reconsidering because it can refer only to one type of living entity.
In short, it embodies everything that FIM claims to include among its values...unlike everypony, which makes out only ponies matter. Everycreature I haven't heard till now, but clearly someone pointed out to them that they had a word problem, and they choked and spat up that as a solution. They could just have gone back to everybody or everyone - actual words in our language that exist - but...apparently not.
It makes me curious to know how this is translated into other languages. I'm already imagining that Japanese probably uses minna-san, since there's no cute mutation I can think of to incorporate the same effect as 'every pony'. It's hard to know for sure, but if it's also lost in translation, that adds extra layers to the exclusivity aspect.
Mind you, there are other shows where they do this in English at least, but where it doesn't carry over into the translation.
I seem to remember Monster High was also guilty of some awkward and unnecessary word mutations, as well as, like G4, mutated place names. Just gah. Stop it. Kids aren't that stupid, they don't need special words. Teach them real words. They'll need them when they grow up.
Regarding nostalgia. This is nothing personal, but it's really hard as a G1 person to think on anything from G4 as being nostalgic yet, even for the fandom.
Nohing wrong with everyone.
Since G4 began 11 years ago, I can definitely imagine there's a decently sized group who are now nostalgic for it, particularly content from earlier years of G4. People who watched it as kids/teens and are now teens/adults would very likely feel nostalgic for G4.
